Hi everyone. I have been on Atkins since May and have lost about 18 lbs. so far. My real dilemma is that my hair seems to be thinning quite drastically. Is there a supplement I should be taking besides my multivitamins? Thanks in advance.

I've also starting to lose a fair amount of hair so would be grateful to hear from anyone who might know something about this issue. I take a multivitamin, but also Vitamins C, calcium and chromium. I am quite carb sensitive so stick to a low count daily.
Tks for any input,
Lori

Hi. I've been diagnosed hypothyroid which is a major cause of hair loss. Also just read that large doses of evening primrose oil can help renew hair in hypo people. Along with the thyroid meds, I will now start taking about 2000 mg. of epo. Can't hurt, right? Cheers, Lara

hi Lara,
yes EPO will be helpful. Another thing is to watch out for soy. I'm reading more and more that soy isoflavones can interfere with & hinder thyroid function for some people. I'm hypothyr. too, and up till now I've been enjoying tofu every now and then, and use tamari soy sauce. Plus, soy protein isolate is in the lowcarb protein shake I drink. I think I'm going to cut those things out, and look for non-soy substitutes (anybody know of a non-soy soy sauce?? :p)

Hi Doreen. I have never been much for soy products although I know they are supposed to be beneficial for "female" stuff etc. Glad I never got into them now. I do use soy sauce occasionally to marinate chicken and beef but don't use enough to make too much difference, I don't think.
As ever, you have such helpful info. Thanks and keep cool!!
