I cannot believe what I just did. I just voluntarily worked out for 30 minutes at Curves. :agree: :wiggle: And *gasp* I'm going to do it tomorrow, too! (assuming my thigh muscles haven't seized up on me and I'm able to get out of bed!)

Words cannot express how happy I am that I no longer smoke!! I cannot image myself working out if I still did -- I'd be a panting, gasping heap on the floor. As it is, I feel nice and tingly, like I just did something good for myself. :doah: That's because I just did!

I read all 19 pages of the thread on Curves before I decided to give it a whirl. Many said how fun it was and now I can see their point. Several of the machines were designed by Satan  but that opinion will probably change as time goes on and I develop some muscles.

So, this is the beginning of one fat broad's journey to physical fitness.

(*snort*) I still can't believe this is me saying all this!!

Congratulations! Feels great, doesn't it.
I have been lifting some weights at home and also walking on my treadmill but did not seem to be making any progress. Yesterday I started working out at a gym - me, the original couch potato. So far this morning I'm not too sore - just feel a little tight in a few places.
I quit smoking 5 years ago and it still amazes me when I can do things without huffing and puffing. We both did good when we quit that killer habit.
Today is waiting!

G'morning, nopie.

I popped out of bed this morning, feeling like the world was mine. I was already dressed and almost out the door before I realized I wasn't expecting to feel that good. Guess the hot shower after Curves helped keep stiffness at bay.

Went back this morning and did it all again. Chatting with the other gals there really helps pass the time. Before you know it, you're done! And 30 minute of execerise has passed.

The other two gals that were there were doing much more than 30 minute workouts. Perhaps I'll work my way up to that....

Nopie, we both deserve major kudos for all of the good things and lifestyle changes we are doing for ourselves. We've embraced a better way of eating, given up nasty old smoking and are exercising. Ain't we just the cat's meow? LOL

Have a great day! :wiggle:

Went back to Curves this morning. That's the third time this week -- and I just joined on Thursday!

DH and I will be going out of town next Friday and I've been trying to plan our departure time so that I will be able to go all five weekdays next week.

*snort* This can't be me. I've never liked exercising. But I am enjoying Curves and the feeling I have afterward -- all tingly and alive. Time to quit questioning this and start enjoying it all. Waahooo!

Today is Sunday and Curves is closed. That is actually disappointing. Perhaps I'll go out and walk instead. We'll see. Really should do a Housework Workout. ;)

Ok, Sunday came and went and I didn't go for a walk, except at the mall in JCPenney.

Went back to Curves today and oooh boy, did my thighs hurt! Completed the workout, though, so I get a gold star for that. Will just have to remember to stretch or something when I don't go workout.

Also did apheresis today. Don't know if that had anything to do with muscle weakness or not. Prolly not, but maybe so.

Exercised again today (Wed). Monday, the knee bend thingie made my thighs burn!! Wasn't so bad today.

Oddly enough, I'd had a bad day and was actually looking forward to going to workout! It got busy there at one point. If we had just one more gal, we'd have someone on every machine. Looked kinda like a dance routine with everyone hopping off the machine, then on the boards, back on the machines, etc...

Well, well, well. I just can't seem to keep writing on a regular basis. But, the important part is that I'm still going to Curves on a regular basis. I've been a total of seven times. Big woooo, say you? Yes, very big wooo. I've never been one to exercise regularly (read "at all") and I'm willingly going to Curves when I can.

I really do feel better for doing it. Geeze Louise! They were right all along. But I couldn't have done this if I hadn't quit smoking.

:cheer: for me!

Hello, Gym Journal. It's me, your long lost authoress. I'm a bum when it comes to keeping my journals up to date, but I've been faithfully going to exercise at least three times a week. I feel better for it. I look forward to it. Signed on for the full year tonight. (Hmmm, just noticed the number of posts and the dates... I've posted each time I've been to Curves so far. Wow-- another freakin' miracle -- Carol's got an up-to-date journal! :faint:

I'll be away next week and unable to attend Curves. The ship has a gym but I'm pretty sure I don't want to work out in front of a bunch of hunks and hotties (or at least those that believe they fit into those catagories.) I plan on doing a lot of walking, with camera in hand (or at least in reach) so that I can snap quick pictures of any thing that grabs my fancy.

Tootles for now.

Though it was a bit over a week early, I did my weigh and measure tonight at Curves. (I'll be out of town when it has officially been a month.) And the results are in: in 10 sessions I've lost 2 pounds, 2.5 inches and 1.6% body fat.

:yay: :wiggle:  :wiggle: :yay:

Another item I'm proud of is that I really didn't want to go workout tonight. But, when we got home, I changed clothes and headed on out and, to paraphrase the slogan, just did it.

There may be hope for me yet... ;)

Back from vacation--a week-long Alaskan cruise. We walked a lot, climbed a lot of stairs and had to use knees like shock absorbers while on the ship and the excursion boats so my knees hurt when we got back in town on Sunday. Combine that with getting used to being back in Central Time Zone and I was one tired puppy.

Some of the Curves machines really killed my knees tonight so I did leg lifts instead. Suits me.

The important thing is that I did go back and will go back again tomorrow. I am committed to this. :wiggle:

Didn't make it back on Friday. Curves doesn't open until 9am, so after I took DH to work, I came back to the house and was going to take a nap. Ended up sleeping 3 hours! Then I didn't have enough time to do Curves and take care of appointments that I had. Que sera.

I did go back to Curves today, though. And then on to conquer the mountain of laundry that was generated by the vacation.

Will be hitting Curves Mon, Tue, Wed of this week since I'm leaving town on Thursday and not back until following Tuesday.

Worked hard today and it felt good.

This week is a break-through week. I weigh less than I have since 1998 and I can tell it. Not sure what was special about today but suddenly I can tell that I've lost weight. Guess it's kinda like one day your hair is fine and the next it's too long - one of those subtle things that sneaks up on you. Just keep on sneakin'!

Ok, so it will be Mon, Wed and Thurs instead. Had a headache last night and just couldn't face a workout.

Thursday is now do-able since Cindy and I won't be leaving that evening. Hurricane Isabel forces us to change plans to fly on Friday mid-morning instead of Thursday night -- assuming they didn't cancel the flight altogether.

The Enell sportsbra arrived today and I'm in love with it!! Working out was so very comfortable without having my more than ample boobs banging up and down and all around! Well worth the $$$.

26 pounds gone as of today.

Thanks! I'm really enjoying Curves and recommending to anyone that will listen. :)

Surprisingly, there actually was a bit of cleavage. It fastens in the front with a slew of hooks... lemme go count 'em...11 hooks. There are cups for each breast, not just a big "community area". When The Girls are stabalized they tend to get mooshed back toward the armpits a bit, but that may just be my 45-year old, big saggy 42DDD's. The straps are not adjustable, but the fit is great. Lots of back support, a bit snug in the band, but that's documented as part of the fit.

And it comes in a wonderful purple!

These folks get 4-stars from me. www.enell.com

Wowsers...lost another pound over night - 27 gone. Something is working right!

Working hard at Curves. Trying to keep calories around 1800 (basal metabolism) and fat comprising as close to 80% of the calories as I can. Sometimes I fall a bit short but I'm trying.

I feel so good about exercising. This really is a new me with a new way of living and eating.

Hmmm, lost an entry somewhere -- and didn't have time to post yesterday.

Cross my heart, I've been to Curves and worked out twice this week.

And it feels so good.

Especially since I've quit doing the knee bends and the leg pushes. Those were killin' my knees. I've already got bone spurs under the knee cap (think ceiling of a cave) and those execises were just aggravating the situation. Instead of those machines I'm doing leg lifts. At the leg press station, I'll do side lifts (10 each side) and then back lifts (5 each side) -- just have to watch were my long legs are going and not kick anyone or anything. Then at the knee bend station, I'll do back lifts (10 each side) and then side lifts (5 each side). After three circuits that works out to 45 of each type, on each side.

I know, I know... two entries in one day. The first was for yesterday and the day before (which seems to have been lost). Just returned from a morning workout at Curves, so this entry is for today. Confused yet? Yeah, me, too! :p

Workout felt good. :wiggle: :yay:  My butt fits on the seats better and I seem to workout with a bit more enthusiasm than before. Woohoo! Carol's gettin' wit' da program.

Got a compliment yesterday... was told my butt's getting smaller. I know that :) but it is nice to hear it from friends. :sunny:

Was sleepy when I got home from work yesterday so I skipped Curves then, but made up for it by going today. Felt good and passed quickly. Still feeling the internal furnace burning even though I took a shower when I came home. Go, metabolism, go!

Headed out for Curves as soon as I got home and changed. I must be getting stronger because I find myself working harder, consciencously putting in more effort. Only problem with that is it kicks my heart rate over the 70% target range and I have to cut back.

This month is going to be special. October is my favorite month so it is always special. But it is extra special since this will be my first full month working out. When I joined in August, a week had already passed and then we went to Alaska at the end of the month. Was in Alaska the first week of September and in Dover in the middle of the month... but I think I got all my workouts in early in that week and late in the next. Regardless, I'm not traveling this month so I should be able to get in a full month.

Now, it's time to take my sweaty things to the showers!

The gal that measured me when I started Curves won't be there next Monday, the day the would be my measure day. So, I went ahead and had her measure me tonight. I've lost 9.5 inches since August 27!!! Wheeeeee!

All told, I've lost 12 inches since starting Curves on August 6. It's so nice to see results. :D

Way to go girl! You sound like you are having a blast too! 30 pounds gone, that is a great success! keep up the great work! I have my own little gym here at home but I'm thinking of joining curbs as well because they have other machines there too. Just don't have access to them like I do at home. I usually do my work out around 7 or 7:30p.m. and they are closed by then. :(
But good for you! You ought to be proud.

Should have added this yesterday. Went to Curves and did my workout, as usual. Seemed a bit harder, perhaps it was too long between workouts? Last one was previous Thursday. So...four days without exercise-- makes one weak. LOL *snort* So much for my lame humor.

Memo to self: Try to workout every other day... or at least every two days. Don't let previous efforts go for naught.

I've got a serious case of lag when it comes to gym logs these days. Worked out yesterday at Curves. Time sure goes faster when you have folks to chat with.

Awoke this morning at 3:15am and couldn't get back to sleep. Got up, piddled around the house a bit. Sat down and worked on some stitching while listening to a movie with the headphones on. DH came in the room a bit later. He, too, was up early and had already showered.

My back, kidney area actually, was aching so I took some Advil and then a walk around the block. Wahoo. There's my morning exercise. LOL

Per my norm these days, I worked out yesterday and posted it today.

It's cool and damp today, but the bird have been singing in the yard. Strange, but one seems to think of singing birds in the spring not the fall. I'll take 'em whenever. Rather peaceful and nice since there isn't much else in the way of noise now in the neighborhood.

Well I checked out your gym journal and to my surprise, you do Curves too. I have been going since before this WOL but doing both has really stepped up some progress. I have lost 8.5 inches since starting Atkins and Curves together. :yay:

I love it when other people go there to because its so great!

Best Wishes- Tashi :wiggle:

I wasn't planning on going to Curves today, I was thinking along the lines of Tues/Thurs/Sat again. But, I was a bit cranky and tired on the way home from work and thought it might brighten me a bit. After a trip to Curves, sho' nuff, that did the trick! My attitude is much brighter and I feel more invigorated than if I'd just stayed home and collapsed in my comfy chair.

Ahh, the power of exercise. :D

Did my Curves workout tonight. Did three circuts and would have done more except it was late and they were ready to close. Chatted with the attendant the whole time and the workout just flew by!

Noticed the pounds lost counter at the top of the home page is 482,000+. It would be so cool to lose the 500,000th pound. Just a thought...

This morning I hauled myself outta bed and got dressed to go workout. Some how, I managed to find little things to do to prolong leaving. Really didn't feel like going to workout this morning. Finally ran out of excuses and went. Did my workout and came on home. DH, who was amused at my procrastination leaving, greeted my return with, "Ah! Didn't kill you, huh?" Grrr.

But he's right, I just needed to get my butt in gear and then it wasn't so bad.

That's great! Keep up the hard work and you'll feel a lot better in no time. I finally got my butt around to joining the gym and I have to say I actually enjoy it more than I thought I would. I had joined a regular gym a few years ago and after a couple visits I gave it up. Was too depressing seeing all the fit women and I felt self consious infront of the men. But curves is great because it is ONLY women and even though there are some going just for cardial and look great, there are many others in the same boat as I am. :) I joined up on the 10 and I've gone 4 times this week. Just did a work out this morning at 9. I sometimes feel tired and cranky when I go in but it always lifts my spirits and I'm happy and energetic when I leave. It's great. When I don't go the the gym I do my exercise machines here at home. It seems to get easier every time I exercise. It would be even more fun if I had someone to work out with though, I think.
Anyway, just wanted to touch base and let you know what a wonderful job you are doing and that you have inspired me to check out, and join our curves gym. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. lol. I guess that is why I decided to go so often, want to get my money's worth! lol

McGirl, that is absolutely awesome! I'm so glad that you joined Curves! Isn't it wonderful? I love it and really enjoy my time there, even if I'm a bit hard to get motivated first thing in the morning on Saturdays.

Looks like you are making some great progress already. Conga-rats to you! ;) Keep up the great work!

Thanks for stopping by and posting. :D

Dagnabbit, I forgot to post that I worked out this past Tuesday, the 21st. Well, this post will have to suffice for Tuesday and today, Thursday the 23rd.

I didn't get to bed until late (1am) last night/this morning and then up at 6am. When I got home from work I really wanted to nap on the sofa but instead hauled my ragged old butt out to Curves and did my workout. Now, I'm sitting here with a post-exercise glow typing in my gym log. Hope I can stay awake long enough to get an hours worth of fired-up out of my metabolism.

Not losing weight these days, but the body seems to be shifting and reforming. That's fine by me - long as something is happening!

Aw gee, I've been awful at keeping up my gym log. I've been going to Curves three times a week - honest!

It's a shame when you avoid your own journal! I plead guilty. I didn't go to Curves the early part of the week I went to Florida, nor did I go the later part of the week that I got back. That's two whole weeks, but I wasn't sitting on my butt the whole time. We walked a lot when in Key West (twice the North/South length of the key) and also walked a lot while at the track on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And more walking while in the airports on Tuesday.

I did return to Curves tonight. Thankfully it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be after a two week absence. Actually, it felt good to be exercising again. Looking forward to going again tomorrow. :)

Went to Curves today, like a good LC'er and did my workout. Then I ended up at Walmart shopping for things for Thanksgiving. Prolly walked a half mile just in the store!

I'm predicting a morning whoosh... I'm so sleepy right now and that's one of my indicators of an impending whoosh.

The Curves I attend had a little contest going on for November where you earned "feathers" for your turkey by doing silly little things on different days (wear pink or purple, wear sports team logo, wear a hat etc) and also feathers for losing pound and inches. I managed to coming in second! LOL Don't know what I've won but I suppose I'll find out Monday.

I just wanted to stop by and say how much your gym log title made me laugh, especially as it's sooooooooo applicable to me - in my case, there does seem to be a huge number of pigs flying around in my vicinity:lol:

Now that I'm actually doing it, I can believe how much I'm enjoying my exercise classes etc:eek::D

Anyway, you're doing great - keep up the good work  :D

I've been knocking on Death's door since last Saturday. Well, ok. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I have been sick: a sinus infection with a will to migrate to my chest and a bit of laryngitis for good measure. Tonight was my first night back at Curves since Thanksgiving Eve. I used moderation in working out since I didn't want to break into a coughing fit.

Everyone will be happier if they don't catch whatever I've got so I'm doing my best not to spread it. I looked like the Frito Bandito since I wore a bandana across my face. Also washed up with Purell to sanitize my hands before touching the equipment.

Here's to feeling better tomorrow.
