Ok, 3500 calories of fat, what does that look like? How
big is it?

I know it's lighter than water, so it's gotta be bigger than
your standard 500ml water bottle (roughly one pound), right? I
figure this'll help motivate me, I can imagine how much fat
I'd lose and how much of a difference it'd make. Might be
easier to skip the second helping of potatoes.

So what are we talkin' here? A pound of fat, about enough to
fill a litre water bottle? Something like that? Anyone?

If you have more muscle on your body, you might look slimmer
yet weigh more. That's because a pound of muscle takes up less
room in your body than a pound of fat. A pound of muscle is
about the size of a tennis ball, while a pound of fat is about
the size of a large grapefruit. That pound of muscle also is
25 times more efficient at burning calories than fat.

Next time you're at the butchers, have a look at some kidneys.
They're sheathed in a solid lump of fat in order to cushion
them from blows and knocks. To get the kidney out, the casing
or shell of fat is cracked open, just like a nut. To me,
that's just nasty.

The thing is, that's not soft fat, it's hard stuff. Think
of the juices that solidify in a cooking tray after you
roast a chicken.

Take 504ml of water seal it in a zip lock bag without air, and
you have your pound of fat volume, in a nice convenient
flexible pouch.

It does look like chicken fat. Having seen quite a few
surgeries, it is yucky.

Not sure about human fat, but when I clean swamp donkeys &
deer the outside fat is not that bad looking, but the knobby
stuff inside is a tad disgusting...

Only if 'world' = USA. The British and Irish say "A pint of
water weighs a pound and a quarter".

More precise values for water are: US liquid pint ~ 1.04 lb US
dry pt ~ 1.2 lb imperial pt ~ 1.25 lb 1 ml = 1 g

The density of fat is 0.9 g/ml. So the 500 ml bottle weighs
500 g (1.1
lb) when full of water but only 450 g (0.99 lb) when
full of fat.

Calculating the other way: 500 g of water occupies a volume of
500 ml. 500 g of fat occupies a volume of 555 ml.

Swamp donkeys? Sounds kind of like something Ralph Bakshi
would make up.

"The world arround" is just intended to rhyme. A mnemonic.
