Ground almonds/ Bread recipes

Hi all
Got myself a bead maker:yay: I'm well chuffed it's one i looked at a few months ago but at £49.99 i decided i couldn't afford it, got it in a sale for £19.99!!

So off i went to get some ground almonds and nearly died at the price £2.09 for 200g, does anyone know of cheaper place to get them?

I'm also looking for recipes for my bread maker have looked at plenty on the low carb sites but which one's the best?? I would prefer to have it wheat free incase i have got an intolerance but i don't mind if it has, as my DH can eat it.

I really wonder if ground almonds will work to make bread (I'm not any kind of an expert). One cannot just substitute ground almonds / almond flour for regular flour. It doesn't act the same.
I think that the bread wouldn't rise because there is not enough gluten in them. They are mostly used in cookies and crusts and baked goods that need not rise.

Sorry i re read my post and it isn't well writen.
Robert gave us a 'bread' recipe using ground almonds and made in the microwave a few posts ago (cream tea) thats what i got the ground almonds for.
Haven't got any ingredients for my bread machine as yet, i have looked at the recipe section on this board and others, but with so many too choose from i thought i would see if anyone in here had tried them, and what their favourite ones where.

I get my ground almonds in Sainsbury's and they are around the same price or possibly 10 p cheaper.

I buy my ground almonds for 59p for 100g in one of those scoop and weight places in a market. that's almost half the price of the supermarkets.

The ground almonds work for the microwave variety of bread but it's the eggs that hold it together and the baking powder which makes it rise. It would probably work OK in a breadmaker with yeast and some wheat for receipes - and most important post here and let us know how they turn out.

Your right Anne they are 10p cheaper in Sainsbury's(now who say's Sainsbury's is dearer!) We have a scoop and weigh shop in the next town so i am going to have a look there, fingers crossed!
If they do have them cheaper i will have an experiment, but at the moment i'm treating them like gold..lol

not sure but i think its in blanford street near holland and barratt.theres one in the galleries near argos.know that one for sure.
