Hello Everyone
I have been low acrbing for nearly four weeks and as a non-meat eater am running out of ideas. I do eat fish but there is only a certain amount of tuna you can eat. Not wanting to follow A. Diamond back to meat I wondered if anybody had come up against this. Some new ideas for dinner would be good or some meat alternatives witha little less meat.
Hoping for some help.

Hi Tony
I'm not a veggie but i think i soon will be as i am getting sick of eating meat.
I just cannot seem to make exciting interesting meals anymore. This is stupid as i never really enjoyed the ususal bread, potatoes, pasta anyway.
I have been going through peoples journals looking for meal ideas and things are getting better. I haven't come accross a vegetarian as yet but i'll let you know if i do. :D

How about a cottage pie make with veggie mince (TVP), mushrooms and onions and topped with cauliflower mash.
You could try some soya flower pancakes with sugar free jam or stuffed with a sweet or savoury filling based on cottage cheese.
Why tuna? How about a nice trout grilled with butter?
You could do a veggie curry with grated cauliflower instead of rice or fish and chips (chips made from turnip, not potato).
There are many ideas on the veggie part of this board.
I used to be a vegitarian but went back to meat eating when I realised my reasons for being veggie were fundamentally flawed (and I liked meat anyway)! Maybe you could stomach white meats like chicken? - Just a thought.

Thanks for the responce Robert & Eddie
Robert, I had never thought about using cauliflower like that. Nice one. I will give that a try with the wife next week. The trout sounds good two although I will need to get a recipe for the veggie curry.
Eddie. Don't even think about it my friend!! Being a veggie is plain hard work at the best of times. To be honest the only reason I avoid meat now is that turning veggie is one of the only things that I have managed to stick with. I do not believe it helps animals any-more that the person that eats meat but loves animals. It's just bthe fact that you know in yout own mind that you are doing your own little bit.
The wife is sitting here now going on about cauliflower etc. so it looks like she is up for the idea.
Apparently it gives my mum the old wind. She wil have to eat hers in the garden!!!
Let me know how you are all getting on. It's nice to speak to peolpe this side of the pond.
Speak to you soon.
Tony
PS That definately does'nt mean that any non brits that have strayed can't post with pleasure.

Where the hell did I get Eddie from!!
It must be my withdrawal from spuds and Iowagirl that have caused it. So sorry and I will now go away and teach myself the alphabet all over again. Sorry again.

Cheese in all sorts of ways, making vegetables more interesting and nourishing,
Eggs ditto
Soya protein powder, and soy meat subsititute generally.
Fish other than tuna
Some nuts
Blimey, that's sounds a dull list! So why aren't I bored? I try do lively things with vegetables, I guess (!)
Tonght had pan fried marinaded salmon, with several salads. Including raw courgette, cut very small, for crunch with a damn fine dressing. Breakfast was what I think of as Robert's recipe drop scones with cream cheese.
Quorn is a great invention for low carb vegetarians. I adore the sausages, and they are lower carb than most veg sausages. Also the wafer thin 'ham' makes good tiny wrap style things, for packed lunches.
However, in general I think it is definitely harder to eat this way without meat, and requires more thought and planning. A while ago I was in a hurry at lunch time and could not find anything in the supermarket to eat on the go, and ended up with a chicken! I sat in the car cutting it with my penknife. Not a pretty sight, I am sure, but I guess my body was telling me something,
The recipe parts of this forum are v useful for ideas.
Best Wishes

Hello Lucyr
Thanks for the advice and tips really helpful.
I found out how low quorn sausages were today. I was reading the packet wrong and thought what was for 2 sausages was for 1. So now they have 1/2 the carbs I thought they had. I used to eat the Cauldron linconshire sausages but these are very high compared and so can't anymore. The salmon tastes nice. I will try that this week.
I am just glad that other veggies are sticking with it. I am on my 1 month anniversary today with no cheats and quite happy to carry on.
Thanks again for the post. Hope to hear from you soon.
Tony
Hi
I have the same problem being a veggie, sometimes the thought of another quorn fillet makes me want to give up. A member called Etoille came to my rescue, if you check out her pages in the journal section she regularly lists what she eats and the recipes.
Good luck
Tony - I forgot to mention www.lowcarbmegastore.com, they are a uk co. who do lc versions of all sorts of foods

Dear Bel
I am so happy you posted. I went on to the site you rec. and have found lots of things that I would like.
It's not the cheapest place so some things will be treats but there is definately some choice.
There are other things in the supermarket you can eat though. Veggie mince with onions and peppers makes a nice change and sainsburys do great tuna burgers. They are not really low but OK.
Let me know how you get on some time.
Thanks again.
Tony
