Thank you Brenda for your welcome too. Good luck with your health problem, I hope it isn't too serious. Sounds like you listen to your body and takes its advice. I go to Curves too and really like it. Isn't it great to get a good exercise routine done in 30 minutes! I do alot of walking too, and have a Gazelle at home...doesn't get used as much as I'd like, but everything all in good time.
Thank you for the flaxseed links, CP54. I read them and it sounds like I should get those seeds out of the cupboard and into my mouth, LOL.
So happy to hear that you are close to your secret goal....we're rooting for you.
Nancy, thank you for your welcome. I really do feel welcomed!! Yes, I am back on track and now have a wonderful incentive...the cruise.
My rhodo continues to bloom and is such a bright spot amoungst the greenery. We only have one plant, as it was expensive and not guaranteed to overwinter. This one is doing so well, though, I might consider buying another one. I don't have a green thumb, but do follow directions well. :)
I hope you all have a wonderful day. Chat later.............Joyce :)

Menopause Question.....
Hope y'all don't mind if I ask a question concerning menopause or perimenopause.Don't think I am in full blown menopause yet since it hasn't been quite a year since my last period even though I am 54.
Last night and the night before I have woken up in the middle of the night with night sweats. This is something new for me and really don't know how to deal with it.
I was able to get back to sleep but it is so uncomfortable to wake up like that and then try to get back to sleep.
Have any of you dealt with this problem and if so how did you handle it?
Thanks for your help.

Good Evening Ladies,
Hope y'all didn't mind my menopause question.Since we are all around the same age I thought maybe some of you had dealt with the night sweats problem.I haven't had a hot flash yet but those night sweats sure aren't fun.
It feels more like early Spring here instead of the first day of June. This morning our temperature was up to 70 but has dropped all day.Once the rain started the temperature took a nose dive. It's now down to 49 which is quite unusual for the beginning of June.
Last night I rode my stationary bike and today I weight strengthening routines.Glad to get back into my exercise routine once again after being sidelined for a week.
Last week when we were in the Smoky Mountain area we took our 4 year old grandson to The Dixie Stampede.Don't know if any of you have been there or not.You sit and eat your food while you watch a show and competition going on in the arena area.As we were finding our seats our grandson was asked if he would like to participate in the chicken chase competition. We agreed to let him participate. He had so much fun.Four preschoolers from the 1,000 attendees are picked. Our grandson got a medal and the book THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD for participating. We had so much fun with him last week.Today was his last day of preschool so we will need to find some fun things to do with him over the summer. He will be taking swimming lessons sometime during the summer which should be fun for him.He loves the water.
CP.....thanks for the flaxseed information and recipes. Now I am anxious to find some and give it a try.I am also looking forward to hearing what your secret goal is once you reach it.
Brenda...it was so good to hear from you.You have a house full so I well understand how hard it must be to get away and have any time to yourself. How nice of your husband to want to go on a strict 30 day plan.He would be such an encouragement to you.
Lee Ann...how was the trip to 6 Flags last Friday. We have been to 6 Flags in the Atlanta area and in the St.Louis area.I haven't been to an amusement park in quite sometime. When our grandson gets a little older I am sure we will take him to Dollywood down in the Smokies.
Fauve...I don't blame you one bit for wanting to be nearer your granddaughter. Our grandson is 4 and so much fun. It's amazing to hear how his vocabulary is increasing everyday. He seems to say a new word every day. It's fun to carry on a conversation with him now.
Have a nice evening everyone.

Im trying to lose weight cause my husband is in the running to win a trip to SanJuan in September!!They are taking the top 8 store managers out of 125, and he is number 4 and rising!! He is so excited,,but I am panic stricken! I dont want to have to get a seat belt extension!!!So, Im counting carbs and drinking water like crazy!!This is a REAL goal!! I cant mess around. Besides I want some new clothes to take..hehe

Hello all! My weight seems to be at a bit of a standstill this week, but I hope it will go down some more soon. I have been getting quite a bit of outside work done, but we have had a good bit of rain lately which is slowing things down. It rained all day today and is forecast to continue the next several days. We are having a graduation open house / cookout for our son here on the 11th and are expecting quite a crowd. When our older girls graduated we always ended up with at least 150 people at their open houses. I want to get everything done outside so I can work on the food and inside next week.
sailaweigh - I'm sure you are looking forward to your transatlantic cruise. It is nice you have a friend to travel with. Will you be able to spend some time sightseeing in Europe after you get across?
Fauve - your weather sounds wonderful! I go swimming in a lake sometimes, but I much prefer a pool even with the chlorine - I like to be able to see what I am swimming with! It is so nice you got to move close to your grandaughter. I went to see my grandson yesterday - usually only see him once a week as they are close to an hour away.
CP - welcome back! So glad you are feeling better. Congratulations on the 2 lb loss!!!!! I enjoy the flaxbread too. Your fishpond sounds lovely - the sound of running water is so relaxing. If you are trying to make me really curious about your secret goal, it is working!!!!!
Nancy - welcome back from your vacation! I'm glad you had a nice time. We have been to the Dixie Stampeed in a couple of different places. It is fun isn't it? I have the night sweat problem several times a month too. I have a very difficult time getting back to sleep after one of those episodes. Sorry, I don't have any advice about what helps. Let me know if you come up with anything.
Brenda - How nice that your husband is willing to low carb with you just for encouragement. He must love you alot! Enjoy the time with all of your children and grandchildren.
MusicMama - glad to have you. Hope you have lots more success!
hello to Jes, Jas, and the others who haven't checked in in the last few days

Good Morning Ladies,
I wanted to let CP know how much I have been enjoying the flaxmeal bread.I found the flaxmeal at my local Kroger grocery store yesterday.I was quite surprised how inexpensive it is.
Yesterday I made some of the flaxmeal bread and put some cream cheese on it.That was quite yummy. This morning I made another piece and this time just put some butter on it.Really enjoyed it both ways.
It's is quite filling and what I like most is that you can just about use it as a 0 carb food and enjoy it so much.It will help keep me regular which is something that I have really needed since low carbing for 2 1/2 years.
I got my exercise in every day this week.Yesterday was the real test since our grandson had finished preschool and is no longer gone in the mornings when I was doing the workouts with my weights. He saw me getting ready to do my routines and asked what I was doing.I let him pick up one of the weights(which are 5 pounds). He was surprised how heavy they were for him.He watched me do my exercise as he called it.Guess I will have an audience this summer when I get in my weight strengthening routines.
Musicmama....welcome back.I have missed you.Congratulations on losing the 10 pounds.Sounds like your hubby is going to win the trip to San Juan so I know you must be getting quite excited about the trip. What store does your hubby work for if you don't mind me asking? Just wondering since it seems like they compensate their top performing managers quite well.Is this a yearly trip that they all strive for?
Joyce....If I were you I would give Splenda a try.I would steer away from sugar as much as possible. It is so full of carbs and so bad for you.Wish I had a better solution for you.
I better get going and get some stuff done around here.Have a nice Saturday everyone.

Good morning ladies,
Yesterday was my dad's birthday and we did the family thing and had a B-B-Q. I cheated big time http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/31.gif I weighed myself this morning and showed no gain. I'm totally amazed, but believe me...happy I didn't. Just had my flaxmeal bread, with butter and a egg. Starting my day as a LC one...back on track! I'm a Flaxmeal Junkie now....and a regular one at that LOL...
POPSHAY and SWIVLESHIPS...http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/welcome18.gif aboard. You've found a great group of women, who can relate to all the 50's life changes. You can count on us for support and motivation and lots of understanding.
MUSICMAMA...http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/welcome007.gif back! Hope you join our "4th of July Challenge." Woohoo....good luck to your hubby on winning the trip. We're here http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gif you on WOE. Happy for you, that people are noticing you losing weight, It's such a high when they comment on it.
BRENDA...Hope you can get the cyst taken care of soon and put it behind you. WTG on going to curves, how do you like it? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....you're SO right on the "There's such a thing as too much togetherness." Grab hubby and fly the coop http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/flyaway.gif for a few days. You'll enjoy the flaxmeal (read what Nancy had to say about it.) I can hardly wait to share my secret with you! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/71.gif Thank you...I plan on having a great time in Vegas. It's been awhile since hubby and I've gone anywhere. We get so caught up in the every day life, that we forget to take some special time away together.
NANCY...I'm SOOOO glad you tried the Flaxmeal and you're enjoying it. I'm with you....it's very filling and yummy. Yes, it's very unexpensive, I pay $1.98 a bag here. I tried using a smaller size plastic container (to microwave it) and it makes the bread thicker. Yep, on the almost 0 carbs. Don't know if I mentioned this, so I'll say it again. When I want something sweet, I don't add the splenda to the flaxmeal. I take a bit of cream cheese and add the splenda, whip it up and spread it on the flaxmeal. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/jezyk2.gif This recipe is a keeper! I just read your post about menopause, dang, I'm slacking here. I've been there and done the menopause thing. Thank goodness, it's behind me. I never had night sweats though. I think the best thing to do is....search the internet for a "menopause forum." You'll find other women's experiences. I have read that flaxseed does help through menopause, the seed...not the oil. I did a search and did find this, "Flaxseed has a significant impact on reducing the symptoms of menopause, as well, according to ongoing studies. During menopause, a women's body undergoes dynamic change as fluctuating hormone levels influence all areas of her health and well being. During this mid-life change, many menopausal women strive to achieve hormonal balance with the proper combination of diet, exercise and nutrition."
LEE ANN...Thanks for the welcome back....I'm glad to be back! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/LOLOLOL.gif believe me...I'm dying to share my secret. Sounds like you're going to be pretty busy for the open house. It's a great reward after it's all over.
SAILA...http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/highfive.gif on being up for a challenge. Your cruise would be a great goal for you. LMAO..I don't even remember what mine is. Guess I better back track and find out http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hysterical.gif We're hear cheering you on...you can do it. Good luck! ANDDDDD...yes, get the flaxseed out of your cupboard. Ummm...check the date on the package, because it might be no good anymore. I love cruises, you're going to have a blast! Splenda has these ingredients: Dextrose, Maltodextrin and sucralose. Hope this helps.
JES...Onderland, that's fantastic! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/congratualtions.gif You've surely worked hard at it and we're proud of you. Keep up the good work.
If I missed anyone, I apologize...

Found this while searching the internet and thought I'd share.
12 Keys To Super-Charging Your Metabolism For Weight Loss!
You hear it all the time - "metabolism", but what is it? It's the process of converting food to energy (movement and heat). Metabolism happens in your muscles and organs and the result of it is what we commonly refer to as "burning calories". Metabolism is essentially the speed at which your body's motor is running.
"Basal metabolism" is the metabolic rate or caloric expenditure needed to maintain basal body functions such as your heart beating, breathing, muscle tone, etc. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. Basal metabolism accounts for about 75% of the calories you expend on a daily basis!
The good news is that there are 12 ways you can increase metabolism! The more of these you're able to incorporate into your life, the more you'll boost your metabolism. That means you'll be expending ("burning") more calories 24 hours a day!
1. Always eat breakfast! Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you're starving because you haven't had food in 18+ hours. As a protective mechanism, your metabolism slows down. Food, especially complex carbohydrates, fuels your metabolism.
2. Eat earlier in the day! Research has demonstrated that you can lose weight simply by eating a substantial breakfast and lunch, and a light dinner. Dinner should be eaten as early as possible, preferably at least four hours before bedtime.
3. Never eat less than 1200 calories per day! Less than 1200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your metabolism.
4. Snack frequently! Complex carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, and grains) fuel your metabolism. Also, snacking prevents you from becoming too hungry. The hungrier you are, the less control you have over what and how much you eat.
5. Eat more carbohydrates (food from plants), and less fat (food from many animals and other food with added fat)! Carbohydrates boost your metabolism and have fewer calories per weight than fat.
6. Do some type of aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, aerobic dancing, etc.) on a daily basis (preferably in the morning)! Forget this twice-a-week stuff. Our bodies were designed to be active on a daily basis! When we are, our metabolism soars!
7. In addition to your regular aerobic exercise, take a brisk 10 to 15 minute walk at lunch or in the evening. This serves to boost your metabolism even more!
8. Tone your muscles with weight training three days per week. Toned muscles send your metabolism through the roof. Do it!
9. Look for situations to be active. Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot. Use the stairs rather than the elevator, a broom rather than a blower, etc. Look for the "hard" way to do things!
10. Avoid alcohol! Alcohol depresses your metabolism and stimulates your appetite.
11. Drink 60+ ounces of water a day. Your metabolism needs plenty water to function properly. Carry a bottle of water with you and drink frequently throughout the day.
12. Avoid the"3 P's".....pills, powders, and potions! There are NO quick fixes!
Get started today! You'll feel better and your metabolism will be in "great shape"!

Nancy-congratulations on getting your exercise in every day and doing your weight strengthening routines and maybe your grandson could get in the spirit of the whole thing by copying you with a water bottle for a weight. Sorry, can’t help you with menopause questions as I had a hysterectomy 20 yrs ago and never went through menopause so I have no advice to give. I’m glad you had a good vacation in the Smoky Mtn. Area. The Dixie Stampede sounded like fun especially with the young one getting to participate
Brenda-good for you on keeping up with curves eventhough the issue of the cyst and the pain etc has not yet been resolved. How great for for you that your hubby is going to LC with you, it certainly will help when it come to menu planning and the support you can give each other will make it that much better. The wedding stuff is coming along and it is certainly keeping me busy, I would say I am about half way through sewing the runners which are 3 layers each and looking forward to being done! Sounds like you are having a houseful, I read you re too much togetherness.
CP- well you certainly have me very curious about your secret and I can hardly wait until you reveal it. Thanks for the flax recipes. I copied them and will be trying them soon. I have used flaxmeal daily for over 3yrs now. I sprinkle 1tbsp over my salad everyday. The only recipe I have tried with flaxmeal is for muffins so I am looking forward to trying out your recipes. I buy the flaxseeds (which are even cheaper than flaxmeal and grind my own seeds into meal with a coffee grinder) that way I just grind enough for a couple of days at a time and keep it stored in the refridgerator. It is very important that once the seeds have been ground to meal that they are kept in the fridge so that the oil does not go rancid. I have not ever bought flax already ground and sold in bags so I don’t know if it says on the bag to store in fridge once opened. Flax is so good for you and as you mentioned you never have a problem with regularity when you eat it daily.
Lee ann-congratulations on your son’s graduation, it’s an exciting time for teens. My granddaughter has her cap and gown ceremony on the 9th and her prom on the 11th.
Musicmama-welcome back, nice to see you back here. Good for you getting back on plan and losing weight right away. Good luck to your hubby on winning the trip, he sounds like a winner already at #4 out of 125!
Sailaweigh-Welcome to this little group, sounds like you are into cruises. Was your cruise to Alaska the one that goes up the inside passage?
Swivelhips-I am not familiar with the plan “self count” maybe if you explained it a bit we could be of some help. As for me I have 3 meals a day each consisting of protein, low carb vegetables and fat There are different plans with different instructions on how that particular plan should be followed for optimum results.
Fauve—how is everything in your area, sounds so lovely with the lakes and walking trails.
Jas, Carmen, Cheryl, Deb, Mrs Cee, Popshay, Anne—hope you are all doing well and that we hear from you soon.
This week is a busy one for me and my family. My granddaughter had her final review yesterday for air cadets.it was a huge surprise when it was announced she had won the Royal Canadian Legion's Cadet Medal of Excellence. One cadet is chosen from the British Columbia & Yukon region so it is a great honour and we are all so proud of her. Tomorrow is her 18th birthday, Thursday is her graduation cap and gown ceremony and Saturday is her prom so lot's of excitement around here this week.
hope you all have a good week and stay low carbin' and exercisin'

Good Evening Ladies,
What a difference in the weather from last week to this week.Last Thursday we set a record low for the high for the day.Our high for the day was 54.Here we are 4 days later and we set a record high for the date.It went up to 87 today.I don't care too much for the temperature in the upper 80's.We rarely get above 90 here in the mountains of West Virginia. Our house isn't air conditioned since it doesn't get too warm here in the summer.
I must say again how much I have enjoyed the flaxseed meal bread.I use the individual serving recipe that you make in the microwave.I make it every morning. Can't believe how filling it is and keeps me quite satisfied till lunch time. This morning I ate it along with a boiled egg.The bag does state to keep the flaxseed meal refrigerated.
I am pleased to report that I haven't had any more night sweat episodes.Maybe adding in my daily flaxseed meal bread has helped.
I have continued to do my daily exercises. The scale is going down some.Wish I could say that I was doing better in that regards but I have had a few slips here and there.
Musicmama...congratulations on all of the inches that you are losing.Doesn't it feel great when others notice and comment on how well you are doing. So you have a 4 year old granddaughter.I must say that we sure are enjoying our 4 year old grandson so much. It's so much fun to carry on a conversation with him.He has become quite a talker and I think that his baby sister will be talking a lot sooner than he did since she enjoys so much watching him.You must be getting so excited knowing that your husband is so close to winning the cruise.
Jes...you continue to do so well and are so busy.Congratulations to your granddaughter for winning the Royal Canadian Legion's Cadet Medal of Excellence. She graduates on Thursday which is our 32nd wedding anniversary and my hubby's birthday is the 11th which is your granddaughter's prom.Enjoy all of the special festivities this week.
Hope everyone else is doing well this week.

ohhhhhhhhh...I found another Flax Seed recipe.
Low Carb Flax Seed Muffins
6 T butter - melted
3 large eggs
¼ cup whipping cream (or half and half)
Beat these 3 ingredients together, and then add:
½ cup Splenda (artificial sweetener)
1 T maple flavoring
1 T vanilla
Mix the following together and add to the above:
2 t cinnamon
1 t nutmeg
½ rounded t baking powder
½ rounded t baking soda
1 cup ground flaxseeds
¼ cup soy flour or Atkin's Bake Mix
4 oz black walnuts, chopped (optional)
Put into 12 paper cupcake liners in a muffin tin and bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. You can also double the recipe and get 18-20 larger size muffins.
These have been recommended as "very good with lots of fiber". About 4 carb per muffin but over 3 is in the form of fiber. Other flavorings have been tried - banana, pineapple or unsweetened coconut also taste great. These muffins freeze well, too.
These can also be made in the microwave. In a 1000 watt microwave, 12 muffins take about 2 minutes and 10 seconds.

Hello all. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. The weather here has been hot, but beautiful and I'm enjoying spending more time outside. My 17 yo daughter left yesterday morning to spend a month in Romania. She is going with a TLC group (Touching Lives for Christ) They will spend much of their time working in an orphanage in Romania and also be traveling around the country with various activities. I am excited she has this opportunity, but a month is a long time and I have never had any of the children that far away before. She won't have many opportunities to contact us, but hopefully the month will go fast. I'm sure she will have a wonderful time and learn alot.
Jes - you must be SO PROUD of your grandaughter! What an honor for her. I'm glad all your sewing for the wedding is going well. I can't remember, who is it that is getting married? One of your grandaughters? (Don't mind me, I sometimes think I must have early alzheimers. I seem to forget everything) Congratulations on another pound lost!
Nancy - Great news that your weight is going down again. Having your grandson all day now that preschool is out for the summer is going to keep you busy. Cute that he wants to exercise with you.
CP - I will have to try the newest flaxseed recipe you posted. How much coconut do you add if you want to flavor it with that?
I will be looking forward to hearing from all the rest of you!

Wow - everyone seems to be doing well. Been a long time since I posted, but I've been dropping by to read yours - just been so busy. Weight is stalled again, but at least it's not going up and once my ankle heals and I'm able to walk again, it should start moving back down (had a fall off some steps Memorial Day weekend and sprained my ankle - nothing too serious, but it's limiting my mobility for a bit).

Hello All....hope everyone is doing well. Everyone sounds busy!
Jes...yes my cruise went up the Inside Passage. I did a Northbound, and disembarked in Seward....took the train up to Anchorage and came home from there. Had a wonderful cruise with wonderful people.
Best of all, didn't gain any weight...just stayed the same.
Next cruise is a 4 day one in Dec from Miami to Cozumel. It's a girly cruise. Four of us girls in one cabin....will be fun, but quite a squeeze....three of us are not slender  and I don't know about the fourth. But what the heck, 4 days will go by so quickly.
Hope you all have a lovely evening. Chat later...Joyce

Hello ladies,
I just had a very sad week; my little dog died suddenly. He was nine years old, nine beautiful years together.
I tried to ease the pain with comfort foods, which is really stupid; I just added bloated to sad.
To top it all, the weather has been lousy: cool and rainy.
Not much fun. I am depressed and feeling sick, but back on track.
And 'Tomorrow is another day', right, and I am looking forward to smile again!
I'm in the process of moving in a beautiful house for the summer with my daughter and granddaughter; it promises to be wonderful.
Nancy, I too am in the process of entering menopause; I went so far as 10 months without, then wham! It has been 4 months now; keeping my fingers crossed! I take Evening Primrose Oil, 4 pills of 1000mg per day, and I have no symptoms whatsoever, except that sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night to kick out the duvet! too warm but not sweating.
CP, thanks for the article on metabolism; I found it very interesting. I haven't tried the flaxseed recipe yet, because of the move and my kitchen is kinda disorganized right now, but I intend too. Sounds delicious.
No weight loss this week, but no gain, and that's good, all things considered!
You are all doing so well... congrats!

Hi Ladies,
Hard to believe that it has been a week since I posted here.I really didn't realize how busy we would be now that preschool is out and having both grandchildren with us all day long during the week.
I haven't done all that great this past week.Last Thursday was our 32nd wedding anniversary then Saturday was hubby's birthday.I did a little too much celebrating.
I am focused once again. The wedding that we are invited to will be here in a few weeks and I don't have an outfit.Guess I forgot about how I wanted to be a little thinner before I went clothes shopping.I am more focused now so hopefully I will see a few of these pounds disappear once again before I go clothes shopping. There is now less than 3 weeks till the wedding and I can't put off shopping for the outfit till the last minute so I really need to focus, focus and focus on what I eat and exercising too.
Need to get caught up with everyone.Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Ladies,
Hope everyone is doing well.Y'all are probably busy just like I am so the posts have let up some.I jumped on here while my granddaughter is napping and hubby is outside with our grandson.
I was so thrilled this morning when I was able to wear the capris that I tried on two months ago and could hardly pull up.
Since I have gotten back into the routine of exercising 6 days a week I am sure that I have lost inches knowing that my capris are fitting me just fine.I was able to wear them last summer but due to slacking off with my exercise over the winter I wasn't able to even pull them up back in April when I tried them on.
Thanks to these capris not fitting is when I decided that I better get back to exercising and fast.I really think that the weight lifting that I do 3 days a week has helped a lot too.The other 3 days I either ride my stationary bike or work out to an exercise tape.
I am back on track with my eating and water intake this week so maybe I might just see a loss or get to Onderland by the time our challenge is up on July 4th.
Hope to hear how others are doing.

Fauve,
I am so sorry to hear about your dog.
How are you and your granddaughter doing together now that it's just about summer? How has the weather been up your way?We have had a lot of rain so our grandson hasn't been able to get outside much. You can tell that he has some pent up energy so he and hubby are outside.Hope he runs off some of his excess energy now that we have such a pretty day.
We have had a warm spell but now it is starting to cool off some for which I am very grateful.

hi everyone,
nancy--congratulations on your 32nd anniversary, that is quite an accomplishment and you sure deserve to celebrate that. being able to get those capris on now that you couldn't in april is a sure sign you are doing the right thing--keep it up:) you'll be in onderland before you know it.
lee ann--it is my daughter (my granddaughter's mother)that is getting married labour day weekend. at 42 it is her 1st marriage, her fiance is from the east coast and they have decided to have the ceremony in his home town so we are travelling there and doing all the arranging long distance. our family is very small(just 12 of us) whereas there is about 80 in his with most living within a short distance of his family home and many of them getting along in years. this has been an interesting few months trying to make all the arrangements to say the least:help::)
fauve--i am sorry to hear about your dog, that must have been difficult for you. how is your house move coming along?
joyce--your upcoming cruise certainly sounds like it will be fun.
well all the festivities involving my granddaughter were held last week. it started with her final parade and review with air cadets, then her 18th birthday with dinner at a local restaurant with friends and family, then her cap and gown ceremony and winding up on saturday night with her prom and her looking so grown up in her evening gown and up-do hairdo, all the family here attended (until it was time for all the old fogies to leave and let the kids have their party:Party:.) we were going to give her her grad gifts on sunday but after partying all night she slept the day away, so we did it monday evening. her scrapbook that i made from birth to graduation was a big hit and took 2 and a half hours to go through. i took yesterday and today and basically did nothing, even kept off the computer til tonight. tomorrow i get back to sewing for the wedding and i just got a call from friends down south that they will be visiting me for 2 weeks next month so i need to get cracking here so i can enjoy their visit without worrying about having wedding stuff to do.
i hope you are all having a good week and enjoying summer. we are starting to get some nice days with summer temps except tonight we are having rain and thunder storms with lighteneing hopefully it will clear tomorrow.

Thank you Nancy and Jes,
It is indeed very hard, but it is getting a bit better.
I have been very busy with the move, thankfully it is done, and we love our new house. I have also been very busy with my granddaughter; lately the weather is miserable for about five days a week, it is cool and rainy, and it makes the little one cranky. Indeed, lots of pentup energy!!! We are playing board games and simple card games; I am teaching her to knit and to bake, she really likes that. We are also reading a lot; she will be starting kindergarten in September, and I am confident that she will be able to read fluently by then.
I tell you, by the time Friday evening comes and I can leave her with her dad, I am one tired lady! It is so good to sit in the hot tub, relaxing with a cool glass of wine... happiness!!!
I am not losing weight though and I am getting very frustrated with that. So much activity and keeping carbs at a minimum, I should be melting away.
Any new idea?
Wishing you all a very pleasant weekend.

Good morning everyone. It has been a while since I've been here to post. My summer has been very busy so far. I just wanted to check in and say hello. I'm still sticking to lc and still slowly losing - I was stuck for almost 3 weeks and then finally dropped a couple of pounds this week - very glad about that.
Fauve - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog - we have had some that were just like part of the family. When they finally died of old age, it was really hard. Your granddaughter sounds like she is keeping you busy, but I'm sure you must enjoy it.
Jes - Good luck with all the sewing. Will your daughter live on the east coast after her marriage or closer to you? I'm sure she is getting excited. Congrats on the continuing weight loss.
Nancy - way to keep up with the exercising and fit into those clothes again!
Hope everyone else is doing well. Take care.

lee ann-my daughter will be returning here to the yukon after the wedding, she has her own home here (which is just around the corner from me) a very good job, her daughter is going to college here in the fall, her fiance is completing an apprenticeship here, they are fully established here. they are having the wedding in his home town because he has a very large family (approx 70-80) a lot are quite elderly living in the surrounding area of nova scotia, so my daughter and i are doing all the planning long distance and there will be 12 from our side of the family there, that's all we have on our side.
i got such a surprise this week it still seems unreal, friends i had in vancouver before i moved here 32 yrs ago and i haven't seen since then arrived unannounced, 4 couples driving 4 motorhomes travelled the alaska highway and arrived here wednesday evening, i was so shocked i couldn't believe it. they parked in a campground which was only10 mins from here so we got to visit for hours and catch up, they got to do some sightseeing and headed back down the highway this morning. it's amazing how after a short time of talking the years just fall away, it was great.
i hope you all had a good week and are enjoying your weekend

Good Evening Ladies,
Wanted to stop by and say hi now that I have a day to myself. Both our son in law and daughter have been working over time so we had our grandchildren yesterday too.Sure was rough getting up early on a Saturday morning. Our son in law had to work today too and our daughter had to work a few hours this afternoon. At least we were able to sleep in a little this morning.Tomorrow is West Virginia day so our daughter will have the day off.I am so looking forward to having a day off too:)
I am down a few pounds for the week but still have a little ways to go to get to my lowest posted here.Seems to be the story of my life here lately. At least I know that I have lost inches so I must be doing something right.
Fauve...It was so nice hearing from you.Glad to hear that you have moved and settled in now.Isn't it fun to keep the grandchildren entertained when the weather doesn't cooperate.I know that our grandson misses his friends at school.Like you,by the time Friday evening comes I am quite tired and this week we added in both Saturday and a few hours today. At least our daughter is off tomorrow so we will have the day off too.
Lee Ann...It was so good hearing from you.I know how busy you are so just stop by whenever you have the chance.Congratulations on losing the three pounds after stalling for awhile.
Jes....Congratulations on your weight loss. You are rolling right along with your weight loss.Wish I could say the same. How thoughtful of your daughter to have the wedding where more people would be able to attend. What is the date for the wedding.Sounds like you had a wonderful visit with friends that you hadn't seen in 32 years.(that's a long time since that's the number of years that we have been married even though sometimes it seems like just yesterday)
Have a wonderful week everyone.I will try to check in again when time allows.

I did Saturday too!!!
What's with these kids of ours anyway, always working and leaving their little ones with us!
And this evening, since it is Father's Day, I even did a bbq in honour of my granddaughter's father! So I really had no weekend off to myself at all. Oh well, tomorrow we start again...

Hello ladies!
Reading thru the new posts of this forum, I noticed one about Protein-Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF). I read thru it, started last month, it already has about 8 pages. The whole thing made sense to me, and I decided to try it for a week and see my body's reaction to it. I really need to shock my body into losing its fat, aha; I am completely stuck, and I don't want to be the fat one at the wedding next month!!!
So today is day one. I'm hungry; it's normal. So far, I have had less than 600 cals, and it's nearly 5pm. The idea is to consume around 800 cals a day...
Has anyone of you tried this before?
I did, about 10 years ago, but I was taking meal replacement shakes and bars then; this time, I am trying to do this with real food.

So I have lost 5 lbs in 5 days, I am very pleased.
I don't want to lower my metabolism though, so today, I am going back to the Atkins Induction plan. But I have learned one thing this week: I need to keep track of calories... I am relatively new to Atkins and I went overboard with the 'fat is good for you' thing! I did not even check the cals most of the time, just the carbs. But for this 57 yr young, hypothyroid, menopausal lady, this is just too good to be true. So I will increase cals to 1200 approx. and see how it goes. I won't do it all at once though; I plan to up them by 100 a day. Do you think it's a good idea?
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Let's be strong together and stay on plan...

nancy--hi, guess you are finding that 2 grandchildren take up more of your time especially since one is still a baby but as they say, it's what keeps you young;). congrats on keeping up with your excercise, i've let mine slip somewhat with all that was going on here but birthday's, grad, prom, funeral and visitors are all over now and my granddaughter left yesterday to work at cadet camp for the summer. my next company arrives the middle of july so i need to get back into my routine of daily exercise beyond the walking. keep up your good work and the pounds will drop:)
fauve--congratulations on the 5lbs in 5 days, that is something! i am glad to see you plan on getting back up to the 1200 calorie mark, you are right about your metabolism with an intake of around 800 calories. a few days of very low calories may not be dangerous but i would be concerned with anything longer than that. i also found that i too had to take calories into consideration as well as carbs. i give myself a range of 1200 to 1400 calories daily and track everything in fitday and actually try and keep it closer to 12 than 14 and lots and lots of water, like you i am also hypo-t which tends to make weight loss more of a challenge. i am still a strong believer in "fat is your friend" as long as it is good fat. in the past i have followed CALP and Atkins but eventually found Protein Power which i like because the plan shows you how to work out the ratios of protein, fat & carbs you should have daily.
good luck on induction and keep up the good work

Hu Fauve and Jes,
So nice to see the two of you posting too.I have checked every day and since there weren't any posts since my last post on Thursday I haven't posted again.Didn't want this thread to be all posts by me,lol.
I am down 2 pounds this week.It sure is nice to get closer to Onderland once again.I have really watched what I have been eating, exercising and drinking my water.I have come down with another cold thanks to my son in law.I feel fine but my runny nose and sneezing are quite bothersome.
Friday evening and yesterday I went shopping for an outfit to wear to the wedding we are attending next Saturday.Women's sizes are so frustrating.I can wear size large tops which is size 12-14.When it comes to dresses I have to get size 18 since my weight tends to stay in my tummy and hips.I found a pretty light blue floral dress that is nice and flowy.I really like it and feel comforable in it.
Fauve...congratulations on your 5 pound weight loss.I would also be very careful about keeping your calories so low.You don't want to get into starvation mode. Please continue to let us know how you are doing. How has the weather been up your way and how is your granddaughter? Both our daughter and son in law had the weekend free so we didn't need to be available to watch the grandchildren.
Jes....You have been so busy.I know you will get back to your exercise once you have the time.I am going to send this and come back.Your messages are on the next page and if I go to them I will lose what I have written here.

Hi Jes, Nancy, and Fauve. I'm glad to see you all seem to be doing well. Things have finally started to slow down somewhat for me and I was able to walk on the treadmill today for the first time in several weeks. I'm really hoping to get back into the habit.
Jes - congratulations on making your 4th of July goal!!! I went back and checked on what mine was and I made part of it - I have lost 10 pounds, unfortunately, I didn't make the other part which was to walk on the treadmill 5 times a week, but I hope I will get back on track with that now.
Nancy - glad to see another 2 lbs gone for you. Glad you found a dress you like.
Fauve - I'm sure you are encouraged with the large loss last week. Hope it keeps coming off now that you have broken your stall.
Everyone have a good week

Hi Everyone,
Itt's been a few weeks since I logged on but I wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. Congrats to everyone who made their goal for the 4th. I didn't quite make mind because I wasn't able to exercise the way I wanted to. Nancy, I finally got the results back form my last ulta sound. Instead of having one cyst I have what they call a cluster of small cyst. My Doctor feels it is beign but I have to go in 8 weeks and repeat the test so we can keep an eye on everything. I started back on my exercise routine yesterday. I hurt regardless so I might as well be doing something comstructive. Mu husband and I took off for several days to get away from everythig and we had a really great time. I've added a little fruit back in our diet. Hopefully I will continue to lose weight. We swim everyday for at least several hours so that will help also.
Fauve, congrats on the hugh weight loss. What did you do to lose so much so fast ?
Nancy, congrats on your weight loss as well. I bet the dress is really pretty. I know what you mean about carrying the weight in the tummy and hips. That's where I carry my extra weight too. Have a great time at the wedding.
It's been really hot here. It has been in the low to middle hundreds for the last couple of weeks. Good swimming weather but even the pool was uncomfortable the other day. The water got up to 90 degrees. Today it's 86 which is not too bad.
Well, my youngest son is coming in from Germany on the 11th for two weeks and our youngest daughter and her two kids are coming in on the 20th for a week. It seems like one bunch leaves and another comes in. I hope everyone has a great week. I'll try to check in more often.

The weight keeps falling off, it is so amazing. I weighed today at 179.5, which is 9 lbs down since I started doing Atkins my way last week! Today I had nearly 1100 cals, so it seems that I can increase a bit and still be ok.
I have also increased the walking. I bought a pedometer; yesterday I walked over 16 000 steps, today 12 600, I was a bit sore from yesterday!
The combination of lower cals and increased exercise is working wonders this week. Let's hope it lasts!
Have a fabulous day!

B,
I started on June 21 (so it's actually day 9 and I lost 9 lbs in 8 days!) going really low cals (700-800), mainly proteins, 2 or 3 gms of carbs (from eggs actually!) and low fat (to keep cals down). So I would have 2 boiled eggs for breakfast, a small can of wild salmon for lunch and a breast of chicken with a bit of mixed greens for dinner. Just lemon on the greens. I did that for 5 days, then started increasing cals a bit, to avoid metabolism slowdown. Yesterday, I ate 1100 cals. I think I will stay at this level for a while, at least until I keep on losing.

Good Morning Ladies,
It's so nice seeing everyone checking in.I continue to do really well and see the scale continuing to go down.Sure is nice to end the month of June this way.Now I only have 5 pounds to go to get to Onderland.
Lee Ann...It was so nice hearing from you again.Glad things have settled down so you have time for your treadmill.
Brenda...How nice to see a post from you.I've missed your posts but I knew you were going to be really busy with lots of company in and out of your house.Sorry to hear that you are still hurting.I know that you and your hubby enjoyed your days away from everything. The time away goes by so fast.It has been warm and humid here. The days have been in the 80's which feels quite warm to us here in the mountains. When it gets into the upper 80's here I know that most other areas are experiencing days in the upper 90's so I am thankful for liiving in the mountains.Enjoy the visit with your son coming from Germany and your daughter and family coming for a visit as well.
Fauve...Congratulations on your great weight loss. How are you feeling? What has been helping me to lose again is cutting back on the amount of food that I eat.Since it has been so warm and humid I haven't felt like eating much which has really helped too.
CP...where are you?Really have missed your posts.Your challenge is coming to an end so was wondering how you did with it.
Best get going.Almost time to leave for our daughter's house.Have a nice Thursday everyone.

Thu, Jun-30-05, 13:21
Thanks Nancy.
Yes, cals counting seem to do the trick for me too.
It's too bad though, I thought it was so nice with Atkins to only have to count carbs. I have always been a big eater; I just like to eat good food, and keeping track of cals is a bore.
I have gained half a pound overnight, no particular reason since I stayed on track yesterday, so I think it is just water adjustment. I hope it anyway. Because it would be really too ridiculous if 1100 cals a day makes me gain weight!!!
I don't envy you the hot and humid weather, Nancy, and I understand how it affects your appetite. I can take hot anyday, but not humid, for some reason.
Here, the month of June has been rather gray and rainy, with temps in the normal 20C range.
Have fun with your grandkids!
Wishing you all a fabulous day!

Hi! I thought I would drop by and say hi. I haven't posted on this thread for months. I dropped by occasionally but it seemed there were so many posting that I felt a little overwhelmed.
Last Jan. I was in a 6 week stall, started eating a couple of LC cookies in the evening with my husband and ended going off the program. I'm now back on. It's taken me 2 months to lose 10 of the 15 lbs I gained but I'm doing well now. I have had to realize that there are certain things I will never be able to have and that I'm going to be a slow loser. I do not count calories as feeling good is more important than how fast I lose pounds. Even so, according to fit day I average about 1600 calories, a nice number for my height and bone structure.

my weekly report doesn't contain much this week. last saturday i woke up with a terrible back ache, hobbled to the washroom and took a couple of painkillers from which i got some relief and it was like that everyday until thursday when i felt good enough to get out and walk and then yesterday was the first day i didn't have the back ache when i woke up and so yesterday was the first day in a week of no pain killers. i basically kept to my eating plan but did not make any entries into fitday sunday through saturday. i did not have any weight loss this week but i didn't expect to, i am not sure if painkillers have a bearing on weight loss or not, i thought i had read somewhere that it could. i am feeling much better today and it's back to exercise and fitday this week!!
i am happy to say i made my goal of 10lbs for the july 4th challenge:cheer:

Hi ladies!
I blew it!!! I celebrated Canada Day in a big way with friends from the US! It's all their fault, aha... they made me drink wine!!! And when I drink wine, I am so relaxed that I totally forget what I am eating. We continued celebrating yesterday, just to be sure, aha. This morning, I woke up with a very sore throat (is it bronchitis or too much singing?) and a big weight gain: 183.5! Aaargh....
Needless to say, today, I am back to strict induction... it's no fun...
And tomorrow is July 4th, which I feel compelled to celebrate in order to return the favour, right? And my girlfriend is celebrating her birthday... What can I do?
So here is the plan: be very good today, be reasonable tomorrow (can I be reasonable really?), and whatever happens, on Tuesday, back on track... the wedding is on the 16th, if you know what I mean!
Have a fabulous day,
Fauve

jann--nice to see you back, congrats on getting back on plan. sometimes after you've been away awhile there are alot of posts to catch up on but it's always interesting reading about what everyone has been up to.
mary--re counting calories on low carb plans, each low carb plan has a basic structure to it (sorry i have not heard of "self count" so i don't know the basics of your plan) the focus is usually counting or tracking carbs not calories.
dr atkins in DANDR makes several statements re calories, pg 15 "no need to count calories" pg 30 "atkins does not limit calories, people may end up eating fewer calories because they are generally less hungry......" pg 143 "although no need to count calories they do matter. gaining weight results from taking in more calories than you expend through exercise, thermogenics and other metabolic functions. research shows that on a carb controlling program more calories are burned than on a lowfat/high carb program so their is a certain metabolic advantage on low carb, but this does not give you a licence to gorge"
drs michael&mary eades of PROTEIN POWER say "unfortunately calories do count too, but not as much" they then go on to say "cutting calories is not nearly as effective as cutting carbs if you are trying to reduce insulin...."
drs richard&rachel heller in CALP make an interesting point saying " your body's tendency to gain weight easily will tend to increase naturally with each passing year, as changing hormonal levels make your body more efficient at storing food energy in the form of fat"
many low carbers here on this board use the formula of eating 10-12 times their current body weight in order to determine the number of calories a day. when i switched from CALP to ATKINS a couple of years back i was eating around 2500 cals a day and after several months realized this didn't work for me even keeping my carbs around 20g so i started PROTEIN POWER and cut back on my calories to around 1800 and then this year at the age of 65 i felt i should cut back to get my weight loss going again. i decided on 1200 to 1400 with my dr's approval (he said definetely not lower than 1200)
i find at this range i am satisfied and not hungry nor do i feel deprived and i have been losing weight again, slowly at about a pound a week. i now think that using the 10-12 x current body weight is not right for me but everybody is different.
those are the reasons i choose to count calories as well as carbs and i don't find it difficult to do. i just use fitday at www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com). there is also a site right here on this board called "my p.l.a.n." just scroll up this page and you will see it in yellow and click on it for info. hope this helps:).
fauve--glad you had a nice canada day, i did as well, took in the local canada day parade which my granddaughter was in.
have a good week everyone

Hi Ladies,
Happy 4th of July and a belated Canada Day.
Really been busy here. The week flew by with the grandchildren as usual.Saturday was my husband's best friend's daughter's wedding which we attended. We had a very nice time.We were on the road since the wedding was held 100 miles East of us.
Yesterday my daughter and her husband and our two grandchildren plus hubby and I took a nice ride 100 miles north of us to one of the state parks in our area.We got in a lot of walking and enjoyed taking a jet boat ride down the river a ways.
Hubby and I and our 4 year old grandson decided to take one of the trails to an overlook of the gorges and river. The sign said that it was 100 steps(they have stairs to climb down and up) down to the overllook. It wasn't too bad going down and I was so proud of myself that I didn't labor too bad going back up the stairs.I know I would have before losing this 40 pounds. Our 4 year old grandson went up the steps like there was nothing to it.Oh to be so young and energetic. After all of those stairs we still had plenty of stairs to climb to get back to the parking lot but they were more gradual and not quite as steep. As they say West Virginia is the mountain state which makes for plenty of stairs too.
We don't have anything planned for today so we will spend a much needed quiet day at home.I am back to eating sensibly today.
Jes....I am so sorry to hear about your back.Glad it is better now.I have to be careful with my back since I had a slip and fall 17 years ago and fractured a vertabra in my back.It turned into degenerative disc disease.I don't have any problems with my back unless I over do it.It's much better also since I have lost the weight I've lost so far.I can now sit on a bench without back support and have no problems.Ten years ago I had to make sure I always had some sort of support for my back when I was sitting.
Mary....I watch my carb intake and don't count calories.I have been low carbing for 2 1/2 years so I pretty much know what works for me.I do have to watch my food intake. Here lately I've been able to lose again since I cut back on the amount of food I was eating.I keep busy watching my two grandchildren during the week so I don't write down or keep tabs of my food intake. I really don't know how many calories I eat but I generally keep my carb intake to around 30 a day or fewer.
JAnn...It was nice hearing from you again.Congratulations on getting the 10 pounds off again.I know you must feel so much better for it.I know I can tell a big difference whenever I gain.If I gained too much I wouldn't have anything to wear.As I have lost weight I have donated my too big clothes to charity so there isn't any going back for me.
Sure hope CP is OK.Today is the ending of her challenge so I have been thinking of her.Hope she checks in with us.I didn't make either goal I had set but I'm still looking forward to getting to Onderland soon.
Have a nice day everyone.

Fauve...
I forgot to address you..sorry.I am also up a few pounds but back on track.I know for special occassions that this will happen.I planned for it and now know what I have to do to get back on track.
I've had my flaxmeal bread and green tea this morning. That will satisfy me for awhile. Not sure yet what I will be having the rest of the day but it will be low carb and plenty of water to drink.
Your area is probably full of tourists this time of the year. The area where we went yesterday is known for white water rafting. We saw cars from all over the country...Colorado,Ohio,Texas,Missouri,New Jersey,North Carolina,South Carolina,Florida and California. There were others but I can't remember all of them. It's so nice to see others come to our state of West Virginia to enjoy our natural resources.
Enjoy your day.

I tried drinking some green tea the other day and boy was it yukky. Won't buy that brand again!
I started exercising Monday as I was feelling better than I had in a long time. Walked one mile and did about 10 min of pilates. I got one DVD at Wally World that has 10 minute segments. I did the whole body which required pushups--yeah, right, from my knees up I sorta did it. LOL A little tired today so haven't done it yet but I need to force myself.
Having trouble getting my water down but other than that I'm on track.
Hope everyone is doing ok.

Hello everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone on this thread is doing. I have been on the run as usual. My oldest daughter had her baby over the weekend - a beautiful little girl. I got to keep my grandson for a couple of days while she was in the hospital (her husband stayed with her) and it makes me appreciate those of you who babysit your grandchildren all the time. He is 22 months old and he about wore me out! I have been driving to my daughter's house most mornings this week (about an hour away) and staying until her husband gets home from work to help out - it would be easier to just stay overnight up there, but I need to keep up with things here too. Do you remember I told you aabout my 17 yo daughter taking a month long trip to Romania? She is coming home this afternoon and I can't wait to see her! I just saw on the news about the terrorist bombings in London this morning and she was there for a 12 hour layover yesterday - makes me realize that God was so good to protect her on this trip! I am continuing to slowly lose weight - have made it halfway to goal now, but still having trouble getting in exercise on a regular basis.
Jes - glad your back is better now and that you are able to exercise again. Are you getting ready for your company?
Nancy - your trip to the state park souonds llike alot of fun. How do you manage to babysit for 2 grandchildren every day - 1 about did me in after about only 2 days!
Fauve - you have been doing so well lately. I'm sure you will get back on track now that the holidays are over.
JAnn - good job on starting the exercise. I have heard of pilates, but never tried it - do you like it?

Hi everyone. I didn't get my exercise in today but did some yoga and pilates yesterday. I haven't quite figured out the pilates yet. It has 4 sections, each 10 minutes. The first 3 are Belly, Butt, Thighs. Then there is the 4th section called Total Body. I don't know if I'm supposed do Total Body in place of the first 3 or with them. It's pretty intense for me. Pushups--from the knees up, sorta.
I also did some yoga. One part I was suppose to lay on my back on the floor and roll up and put my legs over my head. Yeah right! And DH was sitting in his rocker drinking coffee and watching. It wasn't a pretty sight! LOL
I think I will like these exercise when I get them figured out, am a little more limber, maybe a little younger.

Hi everyone,
Haven't posted in a few days since I was rather discouraged with my eating.Last weekend we attended a wedding and I went off my eating plan.It took a few days to get back on track.I am almost back to where I was two weeks ago.I get discouraged when I get so close to Onderland then start going up the other direction.I don't have any other big events in the near future so maybe I can keep on track the rest of the month.
LeAnn....Congratulations on the arrival of your granddaughter. How are mother and baby doing? Has big brother adjusted to having a baby sister? Is your daughter back home from her trip to Romania? She probably had lots to tell you since she was gone for a month.Yes life is very hectic taking care of our 4 year old grandson and 8 month old granddaughter. When we leave our house in the mornings I tell my hubby that I feel like I am going off to work for the day. It's much easier for us to go to their house (7 miles away) than for our daughter to get them up and over to our house on her way to work. This way both of them can sleep in a little later in the mornings. Our grandson will be attending preschool 5 days a week when school resumes. He will be gone from around 8:15 in the morning till around 2 in the afternoon. Our days will seem a little quiet without him although we know that his baby sister will continue to keep us busy.We will still have him for around 3 hours in the afternoon until our daughter stops by to pick them up on her way home from work.
JAnn...You are doing really well with your exercising.Sounds like they give you a really good workout.Hope you continue to enjoy doing them.I got back on my stationary bike yesterday after not riding it for a few days. Our house isn't air conditioned so I slacked off of riding it when it got so warm and humid.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and not in the way of Hurricane Dennis that is getting ready to make land fall.

Went to a potluck/going away party for some friends. I took some Awesome Chicken from the recipe boards so I knew there would be something for me to eat besides raw veggies. I also had some of the salmon roll and some Sauerkraut with sausage.
The sauerkraut tasted a little sweet so this morning I ask the one who made it if it had any sugar in it. She said yes, lots! It's the swedish way. I had never heard of it as in my family we add caraway seed, onion, and an apple. I only had about 1/3 cup, I think, and nothing else I shouldn't have but will probably have to go back to induction for a few days.

Good morning ladies!
My weight has stayed the same for the last week and I think it is because I haven't been exercising much the last month. I have such a hard time getting it in. I did walk on the treadmill yesterday and am planning to do it agian today. I find it much easier to eat right than I do to exercise. Hopefully this time I really will get back on track with it. My husband and I are planning a vacation at the end of August without the children, so now I have a mini goal to work towards.
Nancy - Glad you are back on track after the wedding. I have one to attend this Saturday and I'm hoping I will be careful what I eat - those receptions can be really tempting. I have confidence that you will be making it to wonderland soon. Don't get discouraged that it is taking so long to get over the hump - you can do this!
JAnn - Good job to go prepared to the potluck. I'm sure the saurkraut couldn't have hurt much.
Jes - You sound so busy. Bet you are glad all the sewing for the wedding is almost finished. Have a wonderful time with your friends while they visit.

Good Morning Ladies,
This week is being a lot kinder to me than last week.I have stayed on course this week and continue to see the scale go down.
Last night instead of riding my stationary bike I got out my Sweatin To The Oldies workout video. It was a great workout and I felt really good afterwards.I should do it more often since for some unknown reason it seemed easier to do in this warm humid weather than riding my stationary bike.
WE set a record high for the date yesterday. It went up to 85 and very humid. We really feel it in our house since we don't have air conditioning.Yesterday afternoon we took our grandchildren outside and stayed under a nice shade tree. There was a nice breeze so it was nice to be outside and enjoy some fresh air.It goes down into the 60's at night so the sleeping is good with the window fan running.
JAnn...Could you share the awesome chicken recipe with us? I did some search on the forum and found an awesome chicken recipe that includes broccoli. Is that the same recipe?Good for you for staying on track and taking something to the party that you could eat and enjoy. How did the others like the awesome chicken? How is your exercising coming along?
Jes....When again is the wedding? I know you must be so happy that you have all of the sewing done.Like you,if I don't move around enough I get very stiff. That happens especially on a long car ride of about 2 hours.I'm not used to sitting still that long.Doesn't the Walk Away The Pounds workout feel really good!! Enjoy your company and check in whenever you get a chance. We will miss you.
LeAnn......Hope the brunch reception has some good breakfast foods that you can enjoy. How early is the wedding? How are your daughter and granddaughter doing?
Have a nice Wednesday everyone.

Hi Nancy
Hopefully here (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=46765) is the link--probably the one you found.
The exercising hasn't gone so well. I tire so easily that by the time I get DH off, then take a break I don't seem to get to the exercise. I absolutely hate sweat so I don't do it when it's hot (or warm). My favorite exercise is swimming but I've only been in the pool once this summer and really didn't do much exercising.
This is when I miss Alaska with the year round swimming pools. The monsoons are almost upon us and I don't swim when there is a chance of lightening so I may have missed swimming this year!
Hi Everyone else.
Jes--you're sewing for a wedding? I did that--took me 5 months but it was worth it.
Hi Lee Ann--I hear you on trying to get the exercise in. I think that must be last on my list of things to do. I wish we had a really nice fitness center (with pool!) in our area. It would make it so much nicer to exercise!

Hello ladies,
It was a very busy week, but here we are, ready to leave tomorrow for our little trip to attend my nephew's wedding on Saturday.
I have not been particularly good with food, but extremely good with exercise, and yeah... I am back at 179.5! I am very pleased about that. I was jumping for joy this morning!!!
Now is the big test... what will I weigh when I come back on Monday??
I will let you know as soon as I know!

Hello ladies,
Where has everyone been. I guess we all stay so busy in the summer it is hard to find time to post. I just thought I would drop a quick note to let you know I am getting back on track with the exercise. I walked on the treadmill 5 days last week (no time on the weekend) and walked yesterday too and I'm hoping to keep it up. The first few days about killed me, but it is getting easier. Hope each of you have a wonderful lc week.

Hi Ladies,
It has been about a week since I last posted.I've been having computer problems. My computer keeps locking up on me.Hope I can get this sent before I have any problems.
Wish I could say that I have lost some more weight but I haven't.My weight is staying about the same give a pound or two.It has been so hard to concentrate on losing with being so busy with both grandchildren.
I keep telling myself that things will calm down once our grandson starts back to preschool in about a month.
JAnn...How are you doing. The recipe for the awesome chicken is the same one that I found when I did a search. How is your exercising coming along? Wish I could say that mine is coming along but it isn't.I get plenty of movement in during the day taking care of both grandchildren but my exercise routine hasn't been what it should.
Fauve....How was your nephew's wedding? Hope you had a wonderful time when you were away on your trip.
Lee Ann...Congratulations on all of the time you have spent on your treadmill.Like with my stationary bike riding..once I get back into a routine of riding it the time on it is much easier on me.Now to take time to ride it.
Have a nice evening everyone.

I say it's too hot to exercise. I do gardening in the early a.m., feed the horse and chickens and by then it's too hot for me.
I tried getting up at 4 a.m with DH today but it was just too early. Went back to bed and woke up about 8--after doing the chores, it was too hot to exercise. We have an evaporative cooler but no AC (we're renting) and the monsoons are here so it is very humid for us. I will keep trying and just remember--6 weeks until September!

Hello ladies,
I am back from our little trip, yes Nancy, the wedding was fabulous, lots of fun, and even though I strayed from the lc diet a bit, I did not gained any weight. And I lost another lb since my return on Tuesday. I am now at 178, and so proud of it! I do a lot of walking, even though it is warmer this week, it is not humid, and I like the heat, does not bother me one bit. I am doing between 10,000 and 15,000 steps a day!
Keep the good work my friends!
Have a fabulous day tomorrow.

Good morning ladies, hope you all have a wonderful day. I am busy getting things packed and ready to go tomorrow morning.
The last thing to pack is the meds. Going to pick up Dylan this morning and my Mom later this afternoon. When they stay here with us it is easier getting gone.
I have my plans all down and am going to stay LC. I want to come back from the two weeks lighter than I left. Mom and I love walking along the beach so I imagine we will do a lot of that. I want to go to the Elizabethan Gardens and the QE II. That will be walking also. Going out in the ocean for a boat ride with our son.
Our daughter in-law said it has been real hot but it has been here too so no change.
Ladies I love reading your posts and have missed being in here with you all.

Good Morning Ladies,
Haven't posted in awhile since it has been so hot.We have been having heat index in the upper 90's and low 100's.Since our house isn't air conditioned I have been taking it easy in the evening and not doing much.
This has been our hottest weather in 6 years. My eating hasn't been all that good either.Haven't felt much like exercising with this heat.So I am hoping once it cools off to get back on track and do much better.
My water intake is doing great though.Been getting in plenty of water which hasn't been hard to do at all with this heat, lol.
Hope all of you are doing OK in this summer heat.I keep reminding myself that if it is so hot and humid here in the mountains that it has to be alot worse in other areas.
Have a nice Wednesday everyone.

Hi everyone,
Hasn't this heat been terrible? I don't blame anyone for not wanting to exercise in it. I usually walk on the treadmill inside and since we do have air conditioning, I don't have any excuse when I skip it (which I have twice this week). I'm planning to get on it and walk after I post here.
I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well and enjoying vacations. Isn't summer the best time?
I'm still slowly and steadily losing even though I have an occaisional cheat. I have lost 22 pounds in the last 4 1/2 months! After gaining several pounds a year for the last 10 years even though I was always going off and on a diet, I can't believe I'm actually losing now. This WOE is the only thing I have ever found that seems to work!
Good luck to each of you in reaching your goals!

Hi Ladies,
We went away for a long extended weekend. It was so nice to get away.I am back on track once again. My weight has been up and down like a roller coaster all summer long.
Hope to get these added pounds back off soon. It's so hard getting back on track and ignoring the times that I feel hungry. That will go away in time.
Sure did miss my flaxmeal bread when we were gone.I've been enjoying it every morning since we have been back.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Still busy with both grandchildren. Our grandson will be returning to preschool in a few weeks so it should be a little quieter with just our granddaughter here for most of the day.
Brenda....it was so good hearing from you. That's good news about your cyst shrinking. It has been so warm here that my exercise has been rather scarce. Our house isn't air conditioned since we are in the mountains.Needless to say the warm humid air has zapped my energy by the time evening comes.
Lee Ann....Your notes are so encouraging.Congratulations on such a good weight loss in the 4 1/2 months you have been low carbing.Like you,low carbing has been the only way for me to lose weight and to keep it off.
Would love to hear how everyone is doing. Please check in whenever you have a chance.

Hi everyone,
I'm still hanging in although I've switched to the Fat Flush Plan as I just wasn't losing any weight. I was down 4 pounds in a week but the last few days has destroyed that. Monday I thought I was taking a short trip to a town about 15 miles away to get a slow leak fixed. Ended up taking most of the day.
Tuesday I took my GD to Prescott for a manicure and pedicure (she's five and starting lst grade today). Took all day and didn't eat right.
Then yesterday had to go to Apache Junction. Left at 5 a.m. and should have been back by noon but on the way back a wheel bearing went out (thank goodness I was going uphill when I lost the brakes!!) and had to be towed into Payson so didn't get back home until 7:30 pm. At TWO high carb meals.
Tomorrow and Saturday I will also be out of town and not where I can eat properly. Monday is my day so I will start back then. I'm going to hibernate and pretend the world doesn't exist.
Exercise was going great until this week and I've felt much better. Of course it has been on the treadmill as too humid outside.
Nice to see your post Brenda and glad you're doing better. I hear you on the humidity and our temperature here hasn't been much different than Phoenix.
Lee ann, congratulations on the weight loss. I envy you. I realize that the only way I'm going to lose in low fat, low carb and low calorie--what a drag!!
Nancy, we got our grandkids back after being with the mother for the summer and their school started today so it will still be pretty quiet around here--they grow up so fast!!

i finished all the sewing for my daughters wedding and we made all the decorations that we could and she shipped everything to nova scotia and everything has arrived safely---thank goodness:D
i got the sewing done before my company arrived and we had a great visit over the 2 weeks they were here, we celebrated my 66th birthday last week and i didn't eat the cake!!
i did not get in any of my regular exercise in over the last couple of weeks but did a fair amount of walking and did keep to my LC plan even with company here except one evening had a couple of drinks evenso no loss, this is the 7th week in a row which i think qualifies for a true stall:help:
i am not sure what i need to do to shake it up, i keep to around 12-1400 calories and i don't think i should drop them much below that and carbs stay at around 20-30 with 5-10g of fiber and lots of water. i am a little disappointed but i have to keep in mind i was 245lbs this time last year which is 51lbs less. i guess i just have to be patient:agree:
of course there is the up coming wedding and vacation. i leave here for nova scotia (which is where my daughter's fiance is from and he has a huge family there, out of the expected 170 guests there will 12 of us on the bride's side and we all have to travel from the west coast!!)on aug 26, the wedding is sat sep 3, my granddaughter will travel with me, i will meet my oldest son in calgary alberta and we fly together to halifax.
after the wedding weekend my granddaughter and i will tour through nova scotia, prince edward island and new brunswick with my sister and brother-in-law(who are coming from california) which will be fun and we haven't seen them since last summer. once we part in N.B., my granddaughter and i will travel back west with stops in calgary and edmonton alberta, then penticton and ft.st.john in british columbia and then arrive home in the yukon on sept 23
so almost a month of travelling so i will need to work hard not to gain weight. my granddaughter low carbs too which makes it easier for us but all the travelling with others, eating in restaurants and the partying that goes on will make it a real challenge!!!
i will catch up with the posts and find out how everyone has been doing and should be able to make regular visits over the next two weeks

Jes,
Happy Belated Birthday!!!
It was so good hearing from you.I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing.I know you mentioned that you were going to have company for awhile.
I can fully understand how frustrated you are to be at a stall and not lose any weight for awhile. You have done great losing 51 pounds a year ago.I remember how frustrated you were when you came back with the gain after the trip with your granddaughter.
Hope you can stay on plan and not return with another gain after your nice vacation. You must be so excited about the wedding and trip.I sure will miss you while you are gone.
Hope to hear from you again before you leave for your trip on the 26th.

Jes, Glad to hear that you are doing well. Your trip sounds fantastic ! It sounds like you are as busy as ever.
Nancy. It sounds like you are busy too. Our weather has been crazy for weeks. Our monsoon has been really bad this year. The humidity is about to kill me. My grandchildren started back to school on Monday along with my husband. Since Chealsie is in the first grade she goes all day long so it's just Jewels and me. Jewels is really lonely since she is use to having her sister with her most of the time. My oldest daughter is bringing her two boys over today so the kids can have a play day. I'm finally back on track with my exerciseing. I've gone to Curves everyday this week and I've lost 4 pounds since Monday. I still need to lose 6 pounds before I'm back where I was before I had to stop exercising. I'm going to go back on my treadmill next week and one of my daughter's bought me a Richard Simmons tape for toning with a toning cord. It is a fantastic tape and is really easy to do.
I hope everyone else has a great week and please keep posting. I love reading all of the post and it helps so much.

hi everyone
another week with no change!!! weightwise, at least i know my dress for the wedding won't be too big;). i've stayed with my eating plan and only some walking as far as exercise goes which i didn't even keep track of this week. my granddaughter came home this weekend from her job at cadet camp, she enjoyed the experience immensely and got paid to do it. now it's time to look forward to her mother's wedding and our vacation after it. we leave in just less than 2 weeks and will be gone a month. we're hoping for good weather but you never can tell since it is hurricane season while we are on the east coast. we have had the worst summer ever here in the yukon, nothing but rain and wind for some part of everyday for the past 6wks but now for the last 3 days a heat wave, around 30c (approx 90f) there is just no accounting for the weather, you just have to take it as it comes:D
nancy--thankyou for the birthday greetings, i can't believe i'm 66!! that's just this side of 70, i can remember when i thought 70 was reeeeeaallly old but now i think if i can keep my health i'm doin' good. congrats to you i see in a post from you last week you were down a few pounds--keep up the good work. when does jeremy go back to school and how is that little baby girl doing, growing like crazy i guess:)
brenda--i'm glad to read the cyst is shrinking, hope you are feeling better and good for you on getting back on track, all good thoughts are with you while you go through this agonizing time.
jann--how is it going with the fat flush plan, do you find it is working better for you than atkins?
well i need to get back to work on some of the wedding itinerary that needs to be taken care of--my best advice, never plan a long distance wedding, its more frustrating than if it was being held locally, enough whining, gotta get on with it
have a good week everyone

Hi everyone,
Jes: the FFP fizzled after a week. Not because of the plan but just events. Gone too much, had to eat out too much. I will be traveling to Apache Junction either Friday or Staurday then after that will go back on it.
FFP seems harder than Atkins but on the week I was on it I lost 4 pounds and I think I felt better. Of course eating out and things I'm really not suppose to eat I've gained it back. I am going to try to lose that again by the end of the month. In the meantime I'm on a very loose Atkins. That's the program I'm the most comfortable with and easier for me to stay on (except when I encounter a plate of good biscuits and gravy!!)

Good Morning,
Wanted to stop by for a quick hello.
This summer has been so hectic taking care of both grandchildren.I have decided to just take it easy with my eating plan until grandson Jeremy goes back to preschool in another week or so.Hope to maintain till then.Once things settle down it will be much easier to concentrate on what I eat and get a good grocery shopping trip in.Grandson Jeremy is rather antsy in a grocery store and by the time evening comes I'm not up to getting any major grocery shopping done.
Will continiue to check in.It has also been a rather warm summer without air conditioning in our house. My exercising has been nil.Once the weather cools off I will fell more energetic.
Hope all of you continue to check in with us.

I don't really know where to go with this post. I had thought that there'd be someplace in the Exercise section, but didn't seem to be. I need some help. :help: And, on the PP site, it appears to me that it isn't very active there.
I am into my fourth week on PPLP. I do LOVE it, but without ANY cheats at all, I swear, I find out today that I'd gained back three pounds. I'm devestated. That means that I've only lost approximately 2 lbs per week on this strict routine of exercise and logging in every morsel of food. It's been a while since I've tried to really be faithful to low carbing, but I thought surely I'd lose faster than this if I behaved myself. I record every morsel of food into fitday.com and I exercise 3-4 times a week at Contours Express (like Curves with circuit training, but using weight bearing machinery instead of the tension bearing kind at Curves), AND I walk at least one mile on the treadmill the days I don't go to CE.
I'm keeping my calories down as well as carbs. WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES THIS MEAN? I'm totally stumped and discouraged. I don't want to cheat and I want to succeed with this THIS TIME.
I'm 56 years old; almost thru menopause :agree: (THANK GOD!), and I am in good physical shape except for the weight problem. I take supplements suggested by Eades, and I've given up my beloved diet coke (two weeks now) and the only non-natural additive I'm using is Splenda. I don't use any prescription drugs at all. (Or none of the other kind.)
Any words of wisdom would be so welcome. Please HELP ME. Thanks!
Hugs, Twillie

I wish I knew the answer to your problem. I also struggle but keep on trying anyway. I read about those that lose so much so fast and I can go a month or more without losing anything. The only thing I can suggest is to keep a journal and using my plan or fitday to figure out your calorie and carb level or whatever you track. Then others might be able to make suggestions.

Hi Twillie,
So nice to see your post.Trying to lose weight can be so hard especially when you know you are doing the right things and the weight doesn't want to come off or goes up instead of down.
Did the weight gain show up from a weekly weigh in or was it something that showed up over night? I know that my weight can vary from day to day so when it goes up like that over night I am prone to call it water weight gain if I have eaten alot of sodium the previous days.
Do you drink alot of water? I know when I drink at least 100 ounces a day I do much better with losing weight.
I am not familiar with Protein Power so I can't help you with that.
I was also thinking that maybe you are gaining muscle which could cause the fluctuation in weight.Have you noticed a change in how your clothing fits? I have read that how your clothes fit is a better guide than getting off and on the scale alot especially in the beginning of a weight loss program.I sure don't want the 3 pound weight gain to discourage you.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Nancy,
Thanks much for your response. I do think that I don't get enough water every day, so I may be retaining more fluid than good for me. Also, I have just discovered (within) the past two days) that I have bad reactions to either dairy or Splenda. I started this morning off Splenda and will stay off for a week and see how I feel. I think it's the Splenda, but time will tell. It could be that this is causing me to retain fluid or to not lose as I should be. Who knows??!!!
Have a great weekend and I'll let you know how my 'experiment' turns out.

Hi ladies,
Thought I would check in and see how all of you are doing. I am finally starting to lose a little again after being stuck for about a month. It seems like that is becoming my pattern, but as long as I keep losing, even if it is slow, I am happy. We had a big family reunion at my house yesterday and it was so much fun. Everyone brought the most wonderful things to eat, but except for a few bites, I stayed low carb and was rewarded with a 1/2 lb loss this AM.
Brenda - Glad to hear the cyst is shrinking and you are feeling better and able to exercise again. Has the heat wave there ended yet?
Nancy - Hope all is well with you and your family. Is Jeremy back in school yet? How is the weight loss coming?
JAnn - Sounds like you have been having more than your share of car trouble lately. What fun to spoil your granddaughter before she starts school. She must have felt so grown up getting a manicure and pedicure.
Jes - Hope the wedding goes smoothly. Have a great time on your extended trip home. Has your stall ended yet? You have done so well losing over 50 pounds in the last year!!!
Twillie - Wish I had some advice to give you, but I don't know much about the protien power plan. Don't give up, the weight will surely come off if you stick with it. I have had a few times where I have gained before starting to lose again. Have you discovered yet what is stalling you?
Everyone have a wonderful week!

Hi Ladies,
Today is day two of my two month getting slimmer program.I have set goals for staying low carb, exercising and drinking 100 ounces of water daily.
I was looking at the calendar the other day and saw that it was 2 months to my 55th birthday.I decided that I don't want to be heavier for my birthday.I want to lose what I have gained over the summer and keep on a losing track.
I did really well on day one yesterday.Today is day 2 and I have done well today too.Want to keep on Induction with my carbs at 20 or less and see good loses the first week or two.Thought maybe by seeing good loses for the first two week that it will keep me on the right path.
My clothes have gotten a little snug on me but thankfully I can still wear them.I have donated all of my big clothes to charity so I wouldn't have anything to wear if I gained too much.Don't want to buy bigger clothes so I don't have anywhere to go but down with my weight.
I am being strict with my eating the first two weeks so I can get the cravings for other things out of my system.I've even cut back the cream cheese topping on my flax bread and will use butter to top it the first two weeks.Don't want the sweetness of the cream cheese frosting(which is only cream cheese sweetened with Splenda) to cause any cravings for sweets.
I see that I posted on the 17th that I was going to take it easy on my eating plan till after grandson Jeremy went back to preschool.Looks like I changed my mind about that.Seeing that my 55th birthday was only 2 months away gave me the incentive to get back on plan sooner than later:)
LeAnn...It was nice hearing from you.You are doing so well eating low carb with all of the temptations around you.Congratulations on your 25 pound weight loss.Do any of your friends and relatives compliment you on your weight loss? It is always a nice when others comment on all of the hard work you have put towards losing weight.
JAnn...How are you doing? Are you back on plan yet? You were mentioning biscuits and gravy. That's my 4 year old grandson's favorite breakfast.I don't make it since I am too fond of it too.The only time he gets it is when we go out for breakfast which is a rare treat.
Twillie...How is your experiment going? HAve you noticed any difference now that you aren't using Splenda?
I sure will miss Jess's posts while she is gone.Hope she has a wonderful time at the wedding and on the travels with her granddaughter.
Have a nice week everyone.Hope to report back in a few days with a nice loss.It really helps to be accountable to all of you when I am trying so hard to stay on plan so y'all will be hearing more from me:)

Hi all, :)
Thanks for your questions. I was going to wait until a week had passed, but I'm really noticing some changes, and I wanted to go ahead and share them with you all. This is long and I apologize for the length, but it is important.
Yes, definitely, not using Splenda has caused some changes so far and they are all great ones. Within 24 hours, I noticed that the stiffness and heaviness in my legs after sitting or lying down was much better but not all gone.
This morning, I got up out of bed and noticed that it is even better than it was two mornings ago. I wake up now and I don't have the leg problems and I don't have the fuzzies. You know, that feeling when you first get up and you feel foggy. Maybe you all haven't experienced any of these symptoms, but I sure have. Anyway, yesterday and this morning I woke up and immediately felt like I was fully awake. THIS IS SO STRANGE TO ME. I've experienced these major symptoms for a very long time now. I've used sacharain, Sweet 'n Low, Equal, and Splenda for MANY YEARS. (I'm 56 yrs. old.)
I don't want to preach to anyone about this, but please, please all of you need to pay attention to your bodies. I didn't even realize (because it is so subtle), that the problems were happening, and I attributed the ones I did notice to old age and weight. I did not always have the leg problem or the fuzziness problem. The problems, evidently, are not as noticable to those of us who have tolerated these additives for years.
I believe that we all owe it to ourselves to at least try the NO SPLENDA rule for about three days, minimum. I used to think that people who were anti-artificial sweetner people were kooks and extremists. I DON'T THINK THAT ANYMORE! I've proven to myself that Splenda, Sweet "n Low, and Equal are not the panacea for our sugar fixes. Or, at least, for MY SUGAR FIX.
All I would ask of you is to try it yourself. My husband and I are only using Stevia now and I just cannot believe the difference in the way I feel. (DH just started Saturday after I told him (again) some of the dangers of using those additives and about how much better I feel.)
If you'd like more info, you might want to visit marcola.com. That's a site that one of my students told me about. This student has taken many college nutrition courses (he's about to graduate) and learned about Splenda (sucarlose) in class. He began to rattle off to me the horrors of it and told me that I should not be using it. He did this all very respectfully, of course, and after researching for myself at marcola.com and other sites, I had to agree with him.
It appears that I'm just getting better and better every day from not using Splenda. I hope that's the case and I'll be sure and let you all know if I continue noticing that I'm better. Believe me, I know how you feel about your Splenda; I used to feel that way too. I thought that people were just 'weaklings' or hypocondriacs if they talked about bad reactions; after all, the FDA said it was okay, didn't they? ;) But, please trust the studies that have been done and the people that have gotten off it, and at least prove to yourself that it isn't harming YOU. Try the experiment and let us know. Most sites recommend leaving off an additive for at least one week, but as I have told you, it didn't take that long for me. (And when I started this, I thought surely that I wouldn't notice any differences at all. In fact, I first thought I suffered from a dairy intolerance!)
I know I've rattled some here; (so much for not having the fuzzies, , but I am excited about this finding and I want to share it with you all. :agree:
Go get Stevia today and get off the artificial stuff. You owe it to yourself. Believe me.
Hugs, Twillie

I would like to thank you for sharing your experience, and I'll be joining you on the "Get Off Splenda" experiment.
I've purchased my Stevia and I'm ready to start.
I am following the Atkins WOE and I had great success with that plan 6 years ago. However, 6 years ago, the plan did not allow artifical sweetner's of any kind, except Stevia.
The plan did NOT "net carb"....carbs were carbs.
I'm going to do the "old" plan which only alllowed vinegar and olive oil for salad dressing during induction.
Does anyone else remember this? I'm not having the results that I got years ago, and I've been blaming my age. What if, our results are not as good because the plan now allows artificial sweetner, and net carb calculations? Thoughts?

I, too, have wondered if Splenda has been a problem with me. I suspect that it keeps me from losing weight and my head seems foggy so often, not just in the morning. Next time I get to town I will get some more stevia. I liked the KAL liquid and it was on sale.

Mon, Aug-22-05, 14:22
Rocks & JAnn,
Thanks for responding to my message. Rocks, I'd be really interested to hear how you do with the "old" Atkins. I, too, tried it back that far and wasn't as successful as I am on PPLP. I think it might be because it was so strict for me then. But, really I'm probably just as strict on PP, just able to have some (a bit) fruit and of course, the Stevia, even though I don't go overboard with it at all. I just wanted a viable substitute that would work for all my family, not just me. Makes those family dinners much easier. Know what I mean?
JAnn, let us hear from you and how you do on the Stevia. All 'research' is important, ya know? We should spread the word if we find it works for us.
Hugs, Twillie :)

Hi Ladies,
I've been enjoying the discussion regarding Splenda. So far I haven't had any problems with it.Don't use much of it in a day since I drink mostly water.I try to get in 100 ounces of water each day. When I drink that much water I don't have room for many other low cal- low carb drinks.
Today is day 3 on Induction and I am doing great.I am already down a few pounds and feel so much better and have more energy. Our weather is cooling off too which helps alot.
Rock...I want to welcome you to our thread.I started it awhile back for ladies in the 50's and older to encourage each other regarding losing weight and exercising.I am back to exercising too.I did my strength training today and got in some walking. Will look forward to getting to know you.I tried Atkins way back when it first started out around the early 70's.Back then it was all protein and nothing else.I lost really well but couldn't stick to it since the variety of foods was quite limited.I mostly use Olive oil and vinegar on my salads and find it quite refreshing especially when the weather is rather warm.
Brenda...How are you doing? We haven't heard from you in awhile.Hope you are doing OK.My grandson starts back to preschool on Monday so things should calm down around here some.Congratulations on losing the 4 pounds. Are you continuing to go to CURVES?
Have a nice evening everyone.

Chloesue, thank you for the welcome, but most of all...thank you for starting an over 50 support group. THIS is exactly the kind of support that I've been craving.
I'm glad that you remember the original Atkins plan too! It was more restrictive, but it sure did work. Lately, I've noticed that even at 21 carbs (total not net), the keto stick hasn't moved off small and trace. I've been blaming my age for that, but sucralose is everywhere! It's even in the Atkins ketchup! So my experiment with myself starts today. No artifical sweetner of ANY kind. I am going to eat the same food and quantity that I ate yesterday minus the sweetner and see what that keto stick says tonight! :) Now I'm getting mad! ;)

Hey, Everybody,
Nancy, great going for getting back to exercise. I usually go at least four times a week, but I fell off the wagon last week (had so much to cram into the last part of the week), and I will have to get to my gym this afternoon. I feel so good when I go, don't you?
I continue feeling much more clear-headed than I've been used to or can even remember, and my arthritis is almost non-existent. It really is amazing. I know some of it is my WOE, but I believe a good part of it is clearing out the artificial sweetners since it has happened rapidly since quitting the sweetners. The stevia is working for us. I made my husband a cheesecake yesterday (not my favorite, but his) and I used the stevia in it. He actually ate it and said it wasn't bad. He said he'd eat it if I wanted to make more. THAT'S progress, I tell you!
Everyone have a great rest of the week!

I'm on day one of no Splenda and back on FFP for the next 2 weeks. I kind of view it as Atkins OWL. I'm going to be taking some treatments that will not make me feel so bad if I detoxify at the same time. Weight loss would not be bad either!!!

Hey Nancy, you gonna be 55 on Oct. 20? I'm gonna be 58 on Oct. 17! Your goal is mine too: a healthier, slimmer me in 2 months time!
I've been travelling quite a bit lately, just little trips here and there, but not much on the computer, sorry about that.
I need to get back on plan. Somewhere, somehow, I just kept adding food and drinks and I am taking in way too many cals right now. This morning, I weighed myself and...big shock; 185! jeeez, how did that happen? well, I kinda know. but still, it's way too easy to put on weight.
hi tweelie, hi rocks, nice to meet you.
nancy, my granddaughter is starting kindergarten on Sep. 12, so I am not quite free yet... lucky you!
ok, I just got summoned to get to play already, so I must leave you for now.
Have a fantastic day.

Hi Fauve,
Good luck with your goal of being slimmer and healthier by your birthday which is 3 days before mine.Hopefully we will both have something to cheer about then.So far I am doing pretty good and seeing the scale go down. One thing that is really helping me is that I am eating more for breakfast and lunch and eating a light dinner.I was eating way too much for dinner the last few pounds and like you said getting a little careless with what I was eating.
We won't exactly be grandchildren free once our grandson starts back to preschool next Monday. We will still have his baby sister to look after and then around 2 her brother will return home from preschool..She will be turning 1 year old on October 30th which is 10 days after my birthday. Her mommy's birthday is one day before mine..October 19th.I have lots to look forward to when our granddaughter starts walking etc..I know that she will be into everything so I will once again get plenty of exercise chasing after a toddler:)
Hope you continue to check in and let us know how you are doing.

I didn't make it on FFP. I just got too hungry and missed my cream and coconut oil. I ended up eating things I shouldn't. Back on Atkins today and seem tobe doing fine. Now I just need to figure out what stalled me last time. First guess is Splenda. I don't know what else it could be unless I'm eating too much fat although I stayed at about 1500-1600 calories which is where I feel the best.

I'm into day two of no artifical sweetner of any kind, and yesterday, the keto stick FINALLY went to Moderate!! I can't speak for anyone else, but the sweetner certainly seems to be holding ME back. I haven't had a change in the scale yet, but maybe soon! :)

I sure have! For one thing, the scale that hadn't moved in four weeks, dropped THREE pounds this morning!! Coincidence? You decide! :)
The other thing I've noticed is that my abdomen isn't as bloated. I don't have any information that would lead me to connect artificial sweetner with abdominal bloat, so I don't know who's to thank for that wonderful event.
I waitress on Saturday, and I'm anxious to see if my legs and feet hold up better off the frankenstuff. :)
I also really LIKE Stevia...that is some wonderful stuff. I made a gallon of iced tea using it, and it's great!!

good morning nancy, jann, swivle, fauve brenda and all others. welcome to the new ladies i haven't met yet.
it is the day!! my granddaughter and i leave in a couple of hours for our trip to the east coast for my daughter's wedding (she went last week)
i haven't made it on here this past week or more, my son arrived unexpectedly last friday (work related) and he just left to fly back to the northwest territories about an hour ago and then tomorrow he flies to the east coast and meets us there. needless to say it has been a hectic week!!
my weight continues to hold, no further losses but then no exercise either.
i will be gone for a month so my goal of course is to maintain, so we shall see.
it is definetley fall here in the north with leaves changing and falling, wind and low temps so i'm hoping for a bit more summer back east, that is if we don't run into hurricanes!
keep up your good work everyone and see in a month

Rocks, I can't wait to hear if you have a difference with your feet and legs. That's what I've noticed most. Also, I've seen bloating listed as one of the ailments connected to Splenda, so maybe there is a connection. Be sure to let us know about the leg thing. Good luck.
I love Stevia too. I made a mocha cream pie with it today and I think it's going to be a hit with EVERYONE, not just those of us on low carb. I'll let you know what the family says about it after they try it tomorrow.

The verdict is IN....I waitressed today for eight hours, which means no sitting down at all.....my legs feel F.I.N.E.! I had alot more energy because I wasn't feeling bloated and my legs were so much more comfortable. :) This is absolutely amazing. This time last week, I could hardly walk after my shift, and now I'm just moving around like it never even happened. I was blaming my age....I'd be ticked off about it, except I'm so happy that I'm ME again! I did my keto stick after I got home, and it was LARGE!!! I haven't seen large in six years!! Ask me if I'm thrilled! :D The scale was just sitting still for months and months, I'd almost given up....and now, a wonderful discovery. I CAN be effective at weight loss, I just cannot have any artifical sweetner. Now, I WISH I could say that I'm clearer in the head after quitting....but truth be told....I don't feel any difference yet in the mental capacity department! Yet! :) That really could be an age thing....bummer. That's ok...I feel so good, I told them at the diner that I'd work an extra shift this week! More money for ME!
Tomorrow I have a challenge that I'm gonna face and prevail against the temptation of foods that aren't on my program. There is a family picnic at a local park, and everyone brings a hot dish and a cold dish and beverage. These gals that are coming are the 'old school' farm woman type cooks. This stuff could bring ya to your knees.....but I have a plan! I'm making pulled pork barbeque and cole slaw and that's all that I'm eating. The cole slaw dressing is going to have Stevia in it, and I'm gonna bet that no one will know, except me. I found a barbeque sauce that only has 5 grams of carbs per tbsp...which is Stubb's Barbeque Sauce. It's cooking right now in the crock pot, so I'll let ya know how I make out. I am really looking forward to going to this picnic, staying with my WOE, and having a really great day.
I hope y'all have a wonderful Sunday, and thank you so very, very much for the support here. Twillie, I feel like I've known ya all my life! JAnn, keep us posted on how you are doing, and I sure hope your medical situation is ok. Jesdorka, I sure can't wait to hear about the wedding....I've been there, done that, and it's pretty emotional. Hey, Chloesue!!

Hi Ladies,
I have had a good week since getting back to low carbing.I am so pleased to report that I am down 5 pounds.I know that I won't be able to keep up that kind of loss but it sure is a kick start to losing what I want to lose before my birthday in another 54 days.
Jess....Enjoy the wedding that you have worked so hard for and enjoy the travelling with your granddaughter.
Rocks....So glad to see that you have had the results that you were looking for after stopping the use of Splenda.
Twillie..How was the mocha cream pie? I have never used Stevia.Does it have any kind of taste.I believe I had heard others say that it has some sort of aftertaste so I was wondering about that.Is it easy to use in baking?
Swivelhips...So sorry to hear that your mom passed away a year ago.My mother passed away 30 years ago this year.I was only 25 at the time and still miss her so.
JAnn...How are you doing now that you are back on Atkins?
Fauve...how are you doing? Are you still having some fun filled days with your granddaughter?
Brenda...Hope you are doing well.Stop by whenever you have a chance.I miss your posts.
LeAnn...How are you doing? I know you have had a busy summer but home you will drop by whenever you have a chance.
Have a nice evening everyone.

Hello ladies,
It is raining today, and quite a bit cooler than before; Yep, fall is not far...
Thank you for your message Nancy. You gonne be quite busy in October, with all those birthdays! In my family, I am the only one who has a fall birthday; they all are in the spring. I like it this way, everybody is happy to have a birthday party after 6 months without!
And yes, I do still have lots of fun with my little one; it's gonna be awfully quiet on Sept. 12 when she starts kindergarten. She will be gone all day!
I am thinking about taking some classes in interior design. It is a long-time dream of mine. And now, finally, I have the time to do it.
My daughter has been talking more and more lately about having another child, so if I want to do this, now is the time, lol!!!
I am slowly but surely reducing the amount of food I eat, and I have stopped drinking wine again, and it seems to work... I am down 2 lbs, to 183 this morning. Not quite the wonderful loss that you had Nancy, congrats!, but it is my own doing... I could have reduced cals more, I would have lost more. Nobody to blame but myself.
I feel strong in my resolve though, I know I will do well this week.
Have a fantastic day,
twillie

Chloe:
The Mocha Cream Pie was excellent. :yum: It did not have any aftertaste at all. It was not entirely sugarless, however, since it had the dark chocolate semi-sweet chips in it, but it was low sugar, at least, and the carbs weren't too bad either. My DH says it's a keeper, and if he'll eat it, that's great news!
Stevia withstands heat up to about 450 degrees, I think it is. (Don't quote me; I've slept since I read that info!) Anyway, it's easy to cook and bake with. Of course, without the sugar, things don't behave like usual especially when baking with it. But, I find that I don't really bake that much with it(don't want to use flour, bake mixes, etc.) and that pies and puddings are sufficient for the family. There's an almost flourless cake with Stevia that I want to try one day; it sounds good too, but I'll wait a while to do that - maybe the Nov/ Dec. holidays coming up would be a good time.
Well, we're off to NC for Labor Day. Friends there have a nice place in the mountains with a guest cabin that is so wonderful. Absolutely quiet and peaceful there. We always enjoy visiting and being quiet for a bit while spending some time with them. Ahhhhhh! :agree:
I've got to plan my food and take more "stuff", but other than that, it should be a breeze to stay on plan.
Have a great weekend, Everyone!
Hugs, Twillie

How is everyone doing?
I haven't been on the computer much this past week.I've been watching alot of the coverage about Hurricane Katrina.I feel so bad for all of the people who's lives have been drastically changed due to that horrific hurricane.
I've been doing really well watching what I eat and exercising.Today makes day six for exercising.I've been doing strength training on Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays and cardio on Tuesdays,Thursdays and Saturdays.I am now doing 3 sets of each rep so it's taking me 45 minutes to do my strength training.
I have managed to lose 7 1/2 pounds the last two weeks. This week my weight wants to creep up a little but I am thinking that is due to getting back to exercising and building muscle.I know that I am eating right so I will try not to stress too much about the scale going up some.
Hope to hear how all of you are doing.

hello, hello....I'm backkkkkkkk http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hi20.gif
Boy, have I missed being here. So much has happened these last 2 months (all good things.) I'm doing absolutely wonderful. Let me do a refresh here before I go into all that's been happening. My daughter has been a drug addict for many years and my husband and I have been raising her 12 yr. old twin boys.) The years have been hard on all of us. I'm proud to say my daughter has been clean for 74 days now. She has her own place (across the street from us.) She's going to her drug abuse meetings twice a week and also going to church. We finally have our daughter back and best of all, my grandkids have a mother again. She has a long journey ahead of her, but with our help...I know she will be okay. We have family meetings once a week and family breakfast every Sunday at her house. The boys are still living with us. They aren't ready to make the move yet and we're all okay with that. She has to gain trust with them again and that will take awhile. At the drug abuse meetings, they give those who have been clean for the first 2 months a little chip with a saying on it. When my daughter received hers, we celebrated with cake and ice cream. She was so pleased with herself and excited that we got her a cake, that she cried. It was very touching. These last few months, we've been spending time mending and getting to know the daughter we once had. If you've never dealt with someone you love who's on drugs, it's hard to understand. Believe me, it tears you apart. Here in Calif, there is so much of it and it's dreadful. My heart goes out to anyone who has to go through it. I did gain back 12 pounds, but I'm ok with it and ready to get rid of them again. Hope all is well with all you ladies. Time to get busy..I'll be back though. I haven't read any of the past post yet. I have alot of catching up to do. A WARM WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW ONES...who have joined this group. Hmmmmm....anyone still remember I have a secret to share?

Cp,
There is nothing harder than watching your child destroy themselves. I know because almost nine years ago my oldest son almost drank himself to death. His 3 year old daughter suddenly dies from a respritory problem and my son tried to drink away the pain. I'm pleased to say that he has been sober for several years now and is doing fantastic. It was a long hard road for everyone and I thank God everyday for the gift he is gave to our family. My son told me one day that the love and support he recieved from the family where he drew his strength from when times were the darkest. I will pray for you daughter and her sons. Love can heal all things. Enjoy your daughter. It took relaspes before my son finally got thiongs right but we all just hung in there no matter what. God Bless !!

How are all of you doing?
Been so busy here.Really miss my free mornings while our grandson is in preschool. It's been an adjustment having a baby to look after every morning too.Love taking care of her but that has taken away a lot of my computer time.
I've upped my exercise but the scale is still so frustrating to me.It keeps inching back up and I'm eating right and exercising.I'll keep doing what I am doing and just maybe it will start coming back down after a few days.
Yesterday I rode my stationary bike for 25 minutes. It has taken awhile to work back up to that amount of time on my bike.Three weeks ago I was doing good to ride it for 5 minutes.I also did an hour of yard work getting things cleaned up before winter hits.Still have alot more to do out there when I have the time.
Hope to hear how everyone has been doing.

Good morning ladies,
It's sure feels good to be back posting and to have your support is wonderful, it means alot to me. Living in a small town, my daughters addiction was no secret. It was a huge embarrassment to my family, though no one said anything, we knew they all knew. Their was only a few friends that I talked to about my daughter. Now I find myself telling everyone I can, about her "turnaround." The support has been wonderful. I can't even begin to put in words how my husband and I feel.
NANCY...Thanks for the warm welcome back. I've missed being here! I'm so glad you're still enjoying the flaxseed bread. I just can't seem to get back into the swing of things, (my diet) but today I got a good start and had a good breakfast. It sounds like you have your hands full with babysitting. I remember those days. I was always a stay at home home with my kids and grandkids. I only started working 12 yrs ago and I'm loving it. All my grandkids are grown now, so I'm not needed in that department anymore.
SWIVLEHIPS...I'm so sorry you have to go through the trying times with your brother and I can relate to "going nuts." It's so heartbreaking to see someone you love destroying themselves. It's something you don't want to wish on anyone. It's so sad that he missed your moms funeral. I'm sure this bothers him and will be with him for the rest of his life. I wish you the best and my heart goes out to you. I have learned that although it's not easy at times...they do need our support. Just like we need support to diet.
BRENDA...Thanks for understanding and I'm so sorry for your loss of a grandchild and for you having to go through the heartache of this and watching your son suffer. We both know the sorrow of watching a child destroy themselves and yes it is hard on everyone. I'm so happy for you and your family that your son is doing well. Thank you for the prays and yes, we're enjoying our daughter.
Time to get my things done before I head to work. Have a great day!

Nancy, Sorry it's been so long sunce I posted but things have been really busy around here. I started a new exercise program four weeks ago. I read a book by Bob Green and I decided to give it a try. I exercise 30 minutes every morning on my Treadmill, I do a 40 minute tension cord workout mid-morning , and in the afternoon I go to Curves for 30 minutes. I do this five days a week and on Saturday I walk on my Treadmill for 60 minutes. The inches are really coming off and i've lost 10 pounds so far. Needless to say my days are really busy since I also keep my 3 year old grandaughter a couple of times a week. She loves to exercise with her Mimi so we have fun together. I've added alot more carbs to my diet with all of this exercising. The weight comes off about 2 pounds a week but as long as I'm losing it's OK. Sounds like you are staying busy too. How are the grandkids ?
Swivlehips, It's nice to meet you. Welcome and I look forward to getting to know you.
Cp, I'm thrilled for you and your family. I will keep you in my prayers. Tell you daughter it will be worth all of the hard work to be healthy again.
I tried the faxseed recipe recipe yesterday and it's fantastic ! I hope everyone is doing good and please keep posting. I love reading all of the post. Jes, How are you doing ? Music Mama, I really miss your post as well. Have a great day.

I am a big fan of the " Biggest Loser" and can't wait to see them tortured into shape. I plan to pick me a group and try to whip myself into shape with them. As I'm sitting here hot flashing and thinking about what this body will look life by my 54th birthday which is dec.22nd. I think I better pedal a little harder. So I'm up for the challenge.Princess my chi is looking at me like I have lost my mind,( maybe I have) Good luck to all the Diva's.

Hi Brenda and Everyone,
Everything is going well with my family. Thanks for asking. Our grandson has adjusted really well to going to preschool 5 days a week.He loves riding the school bus.
I had to up my weight on my profile a few pounds. It has gone up 2 1/2 pounds since I started back exercising 3 weeks ago.I am losing inches so I know I haven't gained any fat. It's frustrating when you do everything right but see the scale go up.I will continue to by how my clothes feel and try not to let the numbers on the scale bother me too much.I want to get to Onderland so bad so I guess that is why the numbers bother me when they go up.
I watched the first episode of The Biggest Loser last night. That show really inspires me.I am involved on the Biggest Loser challenge thread so that was the main reason for me chasing my weight stat.Since we are challenging ourselves to watch the show and be motivated I wanted to have my weight stat reflect how it was at the beginning of the challenge.
Brenda...you are doing great with all of your exercising.I am doing good to get my strength training done and my aerobic exercise done on the alternate days.Having a small baby to care for takes up a lot of my time.Seems like all I do is either give her a bottle or feed her and not to mention changing her diapers and playing with her.So my day is full doing baby things. When I get off of here I am going to do my strength training while she is napping.
Did anyone else happen to catch The Biggest Loser TV show?

Nancy,
Yesterday was weigh and measuring day at Curves. I have been only my new exercise plan for only four weeks so I was anxious to see how well it was working. I couldn't be more pleased. I have lost 19 lbs. and 7 1/2 inches. It made all of the hard work worth it. Monday starts the 5th week on my 12 week program. I'm praying that the second month goes as well as the first. I had to add more carbs to my diet because of all of the exercise but I make sure they are good carbs. I'm glad to hear that your grandson is doing so well. My granddaughter had a hard time adjusting to the 1st grade for the first couple of weeks. It was all so different than Kindergarden. She loves school and is doing great now. I hope everyone is doing great and I look forward to talking to you all. Have a great weekend !!

Hi Everyone,
What a pretty day we have had today. Our grandson had a soccer game at 9 this morning so we were out and about early for a Saturday morning. It's fun to watch him develop his soccer skills as the weeks go by.He's on one of the beginner age under 5(age 4) soccer teams.
I've been trying to get in 60 minutes of exercise every day.Since there is so much yard work to do to get ready for winter my exercise flies by when I am out in the yard working in the evening.
Brenda...you have done fantantic the last 4 weeks.Wish my weight would come off that fast.I seem to be stuck around 205-208 and it doesn't want to budge.I keep plodding along and wish to get to Onderland soon.Have about a month till my birthday so maybe I might make it by then.
You were asking how to change your stats.Go up to the green line area on this page and click on CP..Control Panel. Then on the Control Panel page click on Edit Profile and change your stats from there.
How is everyone else doing?

Good Morning!!
Hope everyone is doing well.I see that I am the last one to post here and that was a week ago.Hope that means that everyone is just busy and not having problems low carbing.
This wasn't the best week for me.I gave in and baked our youngest daughter a birthday cake. She turned 28 and I figured that since she is a married lady now that she wasn't going to have a birthday cake.Didn't want that to happen so I baked one.I enjoyed a piece. It sure was good and it had been quite sometime since I had even baked a cake. After the cake I gave into a few other foods that I normally don't eat.
Some of this stems from the frustration of trying to lose weight and sticking to my plan but stalling.I want so bad to get to Onderland and have been struggling with that for sometime.
Yesterday I stuck to induction and plan on doing that till I get to Onderland. My 55th birthday is 25 days away.Would be nice to be in Onderland by then but I won't beat myself up if I'm not.If I stick to Induction I might be able to see a good weight loss in 3 weeks.
Enough rambling.Hope to hear from some of you.I continue to stay busy with watching my granddaughter who will turn one next month. Our grandson has soccer games on the weekends so that takes up alot of our time too.
How are all of you doing? I sure have missed all of the motivation that Jess gives us.Hope the wedding was really nice and that she is enjoying her travels with her granddaughter.

I'm still hanging around. I plan to get serious about LCing again the middle of Oct. after I get back from Oregon, restock my cupboards and see the DR. Till then I'm just hanging on.
I got into Onederland for one week then started going back u again. I know I need to exercise but just don't have the energy. I think it may be due in large part to meopause. I think I'm just going to have to give in and go on hormones. I don't know if that will make it harder or easier to lose weight but may I won't be so fatigued all the time.
I note that the thread has slowed down and hope they haven't given up. I will post more when I get my new computer. This one is dying and I can't stay on very long.
Have a good day!

Hi Ladies,
It's been a few days since I posted. I got a new email address and it has beena nightmare just changing my information to get access to the forum again. It took four different codes before we got one that worked. I'm still exercising three times a day. Last week I ate more than I should have but I'm doing good again on that score as well. I still have a long way to go but Curves has been so much help. The ladies are fantastic and it helps more than I can say to have people to work out with. JAnn and Swivelhips hang in there. Sometimes it takes a few trys to get back on track. I hate to exercise so I try to get it done and over with first thing in the morning. I go to Curves when my husband gets home from work so he helps push me out the door. I sleep better when I exercise and it really helps curve my appetite. I really miss Jes too. I hope she is having the time of her life. Nancy don't beat yourself up over the Birthday cake. I decided several months ago not to beat myself up over a small cheat. I find that every now and then you have to cheat a little to make all of the hard work worth wild. I had to make myself exercise most of last week cause my joints were really bothering me but I feel better this morning. This is the 6th week of my 12 week program so I've got to be consistant and really watch what I eat this week. I don't weigh back in for another 3 weeks and i want to make sure the scales go down again. I hope everyone has a great week.

Good Morning Ladies,
Sure was nice to stop by here and see some posts.I feel more energetic now since our weather has cooled off some.Last week it was in the 80's which is way too warm for this time of the year.
JAnn....When are you going to Oregon? I have heard that it is such a pretty state. The furtherest west I've been is Colorado.Don't blame you for not wanting to get back to low carbing till after your trip.
swivlehips...You were mentioning that it is cold in your area. How cold is it now? Please tell us about your area since I have never been acquainted with anyone from Scotland. Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your brother. My stationary bike in our bedroom near a TV so I peddle away while watching some TV.I am back up to riding it for 15 minutes. Now that it has cooled off I am hoping to work back up to 20 minutes this week. Are you wanting to buy a new dress to wear to your son's wedding? Maybe if you go and look and find something that you hope to fit into by January it would give you the push to lose the weight you want to lose by then.Good luck and please keep in touch.
Brenda....Sorry to hear that you were having problems getting access to the forum again.Glad that is all straightened out again.I sure missed hearing from you.You are such an inspiration to me with all of the exercising you are doing.I am getting in alot more movement now.My grandson who is 4 has been playing recreational soccer and has games on Saturdays and Sundays. We do a lot of walking at the soccer complex. His last games are this coming weekend.I've really enjoyed it and hate to see them come to an end.Hopefully he will want to play again in the spring. You were mentioning being in the 6 week of a 12 week program. Is that through Curves and is that where you will be weighed in 3 weeks?Saturday evening I went out and pulled weeds for an hour.Yesterday the back of my legs really felt it too.Our weather has cooled off some so I know I will feel more like exercising this week.
CP....hope all is well with you.How is your daughter doing and how are your grandsons doing through all of this.I've been thinking of you and your daughter and grandsons/
Have a nice Monday everyone.

Good morning ladies http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sungrin.gif
Woohoo I've been a busy lil' http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/gen006.gif this past week. Don't know what got into me....SPRING CLEANING in Sept??? Geezzzz I'm way off track. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hysterical.gif Ohhhhh well, guess it doesn't matter...I got it done http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/71.gif Hmmm...bells going off here (in my head) I think it's because I'm a winter type of person and since it's cooled off abit, I've got more energy. BINGO, that's got to be it! I didn't get a day off either. I had to fill in for one of the bartenders on Saturday night. Not complaining a bit, the tips were great!
http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/woohoo1.gif I'm down 6 pounds. Hopefully before long I'll be back where I was. Grrrr..it's so aggrevating that it takes so long to lose the pounds and so easy to put them back on.
Brenda...http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/wowani.gif 19 pounds! WTG on your weight loss and inches, that's so awesome. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/41.gif When it comes to exercising...I have a hard time keeping motivated.
Nancy...My daughter is doing absolutely fantastic, thanks for asking. We're all so proud of her. As for my grandsons, they've really been awesome. They still live here with us, but do spend time at my daughters house (across the street.) We let them make the choice of staying here or going with her and my daughter is fine with that. Things couldn't be better http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/fingerscrossed.gif
Swivlehips...I can sympathize with you on the "exercising thing." I had my treadmill in my room (could see the TV) and still didn't use it. Well, I'm lyin' now lol...I did use it, but not for the right purposes! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/34.gif Maybe, just maybe now that the colder season is here, I'll get the energy to use it. As we get older, it's harder to get the weight off and with you having a hysterectomy doesn't make it any easier, BUT you can do it. We're here to http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gif you on. I have a picture of how I use to look on my refrig, plus I have a big calender and I mark each day that goes by. It helps me to see those BIG X's. Start with a small goal and when you've reached it, set another small one. I say it again...you can do it. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/smileykissing.gif
Hope all that haven't posted lately are doing well and are back soon!

Nancy, as a member of Curves we weigh and measure once a month. Helps me keep on track and I try to stay off of the scales the rest of the month. Bob Greene is Ophra's trainer. My daughter gave me a book hwrote called the Total Body Makeover. In the book he outlines his exercise plan. He gives 5 simple rules to use. Have a cutting off time for eating, eat a nourishing breakfast, drink at least six 8 ounce glasses of water a day, eliminate alcohol, and make eating a consciuos act. I made my own exercise program using my treadmill, a tension cord workout by Richard Simmons , and Curves. I added the Flaxmeal to my diet and I think it has helped a great deal. I also use the low glycemic scale for my food. That has helped a great deal. I watch my portions and we eat alot of fish and veggies. When I was younger I had no problem losing weight but Lord things have changed. I'm determined to get this weight off so I will continue to watch what I eat and exercise, exercise, exercise. I've just decided that exercise is something I have to do everyday. It's just like making the bed or cooking dinner. I may not want to but I do. Now it's part of my routine and I refuse to let the family or anything get in the way. If I miss a day I make the time up during the course of the week.
CP, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am for your daughter and the boy's. It sounds like the good Lord has sent an Angel to help and watch over your family. I will continue to keep everyone in my prayers.
Swivlehips, hang in there. You can do this ! Nancy is right. Get a really nice outfit that you love and use it for inspiration. I'm sorry to hear that your brother isn't doing better. My older brother is an alcoholic . He's 54 and it doesn't matter what we do he continues to drink. He is in and out of jail. As long as he's locked up he does great but the minute he gets out he gets drunk. My parents are too old to have to deal with him and he refuses help from the rest of the family unless it's money for booze. He pretty well stays to himself anymore. I would love to help him but I learned the hard way they have to want to stop drinking. My brother doesn't want to stop so nothing we do is going to help. For years we all tried to help but I finally realized that we were enabling him to remain an alcoholic with all of our help. The Doctor finally told all of the family that he had to do this for himself. This is a terrible disease that is often harder on the family than the person who is drinking. My father was an alcoholic as well as both of my granfather's. My oldest son is an alcoholic and has been sober for five years now. One day when we were talking I told him that I wished I could have helped him more and he told me this is a problem that the alcoholic has to deal with. No one can fix it but them. He said he knew we loved him and would also be there but nothing we said or did made any difference until he was ready to get sober. I'll keep you in my prayers.
I have to run for now and hit the treadmill. Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning,
I'll chat a little while my granddaughter is napping.Sure has been nice hearing from everyone.
CP...what wonderful news to hear that your daughter continues to do so well.I know you must be so happy about how well she is doing.Like you,I do so much better when the weather is cooler. Our summer was quite warm and in the upper 80's quite a bit.Since our house isn't air conditioned(we live in the mountains) I sure did feel the heat.I feel much more energetic so far this week.Since it's cooling off I put on a pair of slacks this morning instead of capris.I was so happy to see that my slacks fit me quite comfortably.Let's just say that they aren't very forgiving and if I hadn't gotten back to exercising and watching more closely what I eat a month ago I would not be able to wear them today.
Mary....good for you for getting back on your stepper while watching TV.Check in when you have a chance and let us know how you got along with your stepper.
Brenda...I am familiar with Bob Greene. You gave me an idea.I should ask for that book for my birthday.Sounds like it has some really good advice in it.As a matter of fact I do some strength training routines that I got from Oprah's web site.Bob Greene is or was her trainer.I do those on Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays.I have also added a few other strength training sets so the whole routine takes me about 30-45 minutes.
I have some tension cords.Where did you find the tension workout by Richard Simmons? Is it a workout video?I haven't done too much with my tension cords since I really didn't know what I was doing plus I am enjoying doing the strength training so much with the 5 pound weights.
I also have an alcoholic brother. He's 50 and having health problems now.He lives with my dad and doesn't work.He was having problems with his vision and ended up in the hospital with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Both my brothers have type 2 diabetes now and I sure don't want to become a diabetic so that is another big reason for me to watch closely what I eat and exercise. My hubby is a type 2 diabetic and doesn't watch what he eats all that closely.I use his meter once awhile to check to make sure I am not in danger of becoming a diabetic. So far I am in the clear and want to keep it that way.
Better get going and get a few things done while my granddaughter is napping.
Have a nice Tuesday everyone.

Mary,
I'm so sorry your brother let you down. I know how you feel. My brother use to tell me what I wanted to hear so I would help him and because I love him so much I wanted to believe him. I think 3 or four weeks is as long as my brother has ever been sober unless he was locked up. We love them and want to help but Mary we can't fix things for them. Maybe your husband is right. I have to stay away fom my brother because when I try to help it consumes my whole life. My family suffers and I can't go through the hurt and dissapointment again. Believe it or not, my brother actually does better when the family leaves him alone. My brother gets really hateful when he drinks and I can't stand be around him when he is like that. I'm glad you did good on your eating. You must be really excited about your son's wedding. I hate to fly too but Chili sounds really exciting. What is your son doing in Chili ? Please take lots of pictures so you can share them with all of us. My husband was in the Air Force so we traveled a great deal the 29 years he was in the service. We got to see alot of beautiful countries but we never went to Chili. We spent two years in Turkey and I think it was my favorite place of all the places went. I'm a history lover so Turkey was a great place for me to go.
I ate stuff I shouldn't have yesterday but today it's back to the hard work of losing weight. Working out so much can make you really hungry so I have to be careful not to eat more than I should. Hope things go better for you where your brother is concerned. Buy something pretty for the wedding. I'll keep you and your brother in my prayers. Have a great day.

Hello Ladies,
I’ve made it home after being away for nearly 5 wks. My granddaughter and I made it home a few days ago. I got home with a terrible cold which I blame on air-conditioning everywhere we went, feeling a lot better already. The wedding was lovely, the trip was great and I am glad to be home. The weather was perfect, a nice sunny day for the wedding and the studio photographer took all the pictures outside in a lovely garden area. All the sewing paid off as the tables looked real nice and there was about 150 people in attendance. Everything turned out very well however I wouldn’t recommend doing a wedding long distance to anyone!! After the wedding my granddaughter and I travelled by car with my sister and brother-in-law (from California) throughout Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and part of New Brunswick, we saw and did so much, all the touristy stuff, it was great. We parted in New Brunswick and they headed down to Maine to catch their flight home. My granddaughter and I took the train back to Halifax N.S. and flew to Calgary Alberta where we stayed a couple of days and went to the Canadian Country Music Awards then took the bus to Edmonton Alberta stay a few days at the Fantasyland Hotel where the they have a waterpark and a galaxyland with all kinds of rides etc which my granddaughter enjoyed then one of the evenings we went to see the production of “Mama Mia” We enjoyed both shows. We then took the bus to British Columbia and made several stops along the way visiting with friends before we made the long journey up the Alaska Highway and finally arrived safely at home after one mishap with bus, we were notified by the driver of a problem with the axle and he would have to have another bus sent for us, which took 6hrs, sitting on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere! Oh well at least it wasn’t 40 below and there was movies to watch.
I did stick pretty close to my eating plan however I did gain 8lbs which knocked me out of onderland, I think it was probably the drinks that did most of the damage as we ate lots of fresh vegetables, salads and seafood and nobody was into desserts also the huge amount of walking surely helped to keep the pounds gained much less less than I”ve experienced on other vacation trips. Something happened when I went back east that I can’t really explain, from the first day I arrived there I started drinking my coffee without artificial sweeteners, just cream and have continued since I arrived home. I have used AF’s of all kinds for probably 40 yrs. The first day I arrived there was only sugar available and I didn’t want to use it, the following day when my sister arrived and had brought me 100pkts of splenda (it is so much cheaper in the US than it is here so I often get it from her) anyway I did not use any and haven’t since. I think this is really good if I can keep it up as I am sure I am better off without it.
My weigh in day is Sunday and when I weighed today I was down 2.5 lbs to 199.5 so I am back in onderland—just barely!!. Tomorrow I start back on my exercise program. I plan on getting back to WATP, biking and walking and have been thinking about swimming, so I will come up with a plan and start my regular weekly reporting on Sundays.
I hope you are all doing well with your health, food plans and exercise and I am off to read all the posts from over the past 5 weeks so I can catch up with how everyone is doing
Have a good week

Good Morning Ladies,
Keep meaning to get by here and write but the days just slip on by.Taking care of my 11 month granddaughter keeps me so busy then on the weekends our grandson has been staying with us.He has been on a soccer team which was for under 5's.He's 4.Since we live closer to the soccer field we kept him here with us so that we could get him to his game on Saturdays and Sundays on time. The game on Saturday mornings at 9 were the hardest for all of us.The soccer season has ended so our weekends should be a little quieter now.
I am back on Induction starting yesterday. My clothes are looser but my weight keeps going up and down the same few pounds.I am keeping up with my 6 day a week exercising so I thought maybe getting back on Atkins Induction might get my weight moving down too.
Jes...It sure was nice to see a post from you.Sounds like the wedding was everything that all of you had hoped. How nice that you and your granddaughter went to the Canadian Country Music awards show. Are there many Canadian Country music singers that are big in the US too? I am a big country music fan.You didn't do all that bad with your weight gain.I'm sure that you will get that off in no time.
How are all of you doing?

I've been trying to get back to induction for the past couple of weeks, but for one reason or another I end up eating either a piece of fruit (so abundant right now in our neck of the woods, the northeast!) or even a piece of italian bread (the only kind worth eating).
Will keep trying, but I think it takes a resolve of steel, and lately being depressed I've not had what it takes.
BTW you ladies who have problems with brothers, I also have a similar situation. My mom gets very hurt and angry however when she thinks or hears that him and I are not getting on. How do you ladies deal with mothers who think that the sun rises and sets on their alcoholic son? Just thought I'd ask because my mom called a while back after an incident with my brother that she found out from him (I was trying to keep her out of it, he felt the need to go crying to mommy). She called screaming at me (I live in NY, she lives in Italy, he lives in Ct).
Blessings all!

MariaDiana,
I truly believe that one of the reasons that my brother continues to drink even at the age of 54 is that my Mom has always made excuses for him. When he loses his job because of his drinking she always finds something or someone else to blame. She expects the rest of the family to do the same. We finally all got together and told her that she could make excuses for him all she wanted but she has to understand that the rest of us don't have to accept the way he lives . I love my Mom dearly but I told her that what happens between my brother and me is between us. We are all adults and I wont have her trrating us like kids and telling us to get along. We all told our brother that in the future he needs to deal with his own life and leave Mom out of his problems. Needless to say our Mom was upset but she got over it. I talk to my brother when he is sober. When he's drinking he's a jerk and he knows to stay away form the rest of the family with the exception of our Mom. It took several months of Mom having to deal with all of his crap and she started seeing things a little differently. My Mom means well but sometimes the older we get the more we try to look at life through rose colored glasses. Your Mom needs to know that as adults there are areas that are out of her control and by trying to fix things she is actually making them worse. The next time your Mom calls screaming at you tell her very calmly that this is between you and your brother. Tell her you love her but you are not going to discuss the matter with her. If she insist on talking about it tell her when she wants to talk about anything else to please call back and tell her you have to go. It really works well with my Mom. The first time I told my Mom that she was in shock. She called a few days later and we talked calmly about how she felt. She knows now that because my brother and I don't always get along doesn't mean I don't love him but that I don't intend to enable him to continue on the path he is on. My Mom doesn't understand why my brother drinks and I'm convinved that the reason she makes excuses for him is she that she is afraid she did something wrong when she was raising us . I always try to let her that she is a great Mom but that she can't fix everything. She knows in order to have a good relationship with the rest of her kids she has to stay neutral. She still tells us she wants us all to be close but she is doing much better.
Jes, I can't tell you how great it was to hear from you. The wedding sounds like it was fantastic and the time you had with your granddaughter is priceless. I'm sure the weight you gained will come off quickly now that you are home and back on your old schedule.
Nancy, I hope things calm down for you now that soccer is over. Grandkids can really keep you busy but they are great fun. I actaually upped my carbs since I've been doing so much exercise. I just upped the good carbs. Lots of veggies and once a week we have Dreamfields low carb pasta or a small amount of rice. I have to be careful because since I started exercising 2 hours a day I get really hungry if I don't eat right. I guess I better get going and get some work done before the kids get here. Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning,
I will write a few lines while my granddaughter is sleeping then I need to get up from here and do my strength training routine.
I've been back on Atkins Induction since Sunday. It has been a good week.I haven't strayed from Induction so I am quite happy with how I am doing so far.
There has been a discussion about our brothers drinking and how our mothers handle it.My brother that has a drinking problem is the youngest of four children. My mother has been deceased since 1975 which means that I was only 25 and my brother with the drinking problem was 20.My brother worked and lived away from the area up until 7 years ago.Now he is living with my dad and doesn't work.My dad supports my brother's drinking. My brother looks after my dad and does the cooking and cleaning so I guess my dad feels like he should give my brother the money for his drinking habit. My dad is a recovered alcoholic and has been sober for at least 25 years. He gave up alcohol cold turkey. My dad will turn 80 next year and his health is much better now than it was when he drank and smoked years ago.
Brenda...For breakfast, when I first get up around 6 I fix some flameal bread. Then around 10 I fix a mock danish.I've been eating like that this week on Induction and have been seeing the scale go down.

Nancy, Thanks for the breakfast tip. I've been eating the flaxmeal bread for the last couple of weeks. This week I've been eating the low carb yogurt with some strawberries or raspberries. Quaker has a new oatmeal out that is high in fiber and protein. It's really good. I eat that every now and then since I upped my carbs. I'm still exercising 3 times a day and I love going to Curves. I've met so many nice ladies and it really helps having people working for the smae goal. I'm still using the low glycemic index for the food I eat. I think that has helped more than anything. My body is reshaping itself and I'm seeing a big difference in my hips and stomach. I still have a long way to go but it helps me keep going when I can see it's doing some good.
CP I'm thrilled that your daughter is doing so great. The boy's must be so happy to have their Mother back and I'm sure it's a great help to you as well. Looking forward to hearing from you more. Have a great week.

Good afternoon, Nancy, Brenda, CP54, hope you have all had a great day. I spent the morning at the Dentist, went to town after that to get the new cell phone to show me that I have voice mail. Just came through so that is working.
Found out getting my perscriptions filled at Wal*Mart will let me get them anywhere this winter and only pay the co-pay. That took a load off my mind. I have the bill paying worked out so I feel better about leaving.
We meet my hubby and had lunch at TGIFridays and they let me have it my way!! I ordered a dinner salad and had them add a grilled chicken breast and used the lite ranch dressing and a big glass of iced tea and one of water.
I am going to try my hand at chicken stirfry tonight. I will not be able to thicken the chicken broth but hope it will taste good just the same. I will add, celery, bokchoy, broccoli, bean sprouts, mushrooms and water cestnuts. Hubby will eat his over rice noodles. I will just eat mine. Spent way too much for the bok choy, 6.82, so will stir fry another night next week. I will be leaving in the morning and be back Sunday, Hubby will be alone!! We will take the camper out that day, I think he is going to do it while we are in transit. I will work on Monday getting things together and will go out there Monday afternoon.
Have a good day,

I am such a happy camper this morning!! :) I have lost 9 pounds this first week! This was with a weekend away from home. It was easy to stick to the program and my sister in-law and brother, niece and her hubby were all so very helpful. They wanted to be sure that I had enough of the right things. I took a few things and shopped for a few while there.
Going back in two weeks for our great nieces christening and Ihave no fear of going.
Also going to take the camper out today and will get things organized in there, need olive oil, almonds and the other things I need.
You all have a great day.

Hi Everyone,
It's been so nice seeing all of the postings here from everyone.
I went clothes shopping the other day since some of my slacks had gotten loose on me.I was so thrilled when I tried on a pair of size 14 slacks and they fit me fine so I grabbed them up.
I am really thrilled with this accomplishment since I really couldn't tell you the last time that I wore size 14.When I first started this WOE almost 3 years ago I was wearing the same style slacks in size 1X.Then I moved down to size 18,then 16 and now size 14.I messed up on Induction over the weekend so today I am back to day 1 on Induction.
Brenda....I've been thinking of you and how you must be going down in sizes with your weight loss and all of the exercising you have been doing.
Linda....Congratulations on such a great weight loss.I can tell how thrilled you are to see such good results.
Jes...Happy Thanksgiving to you in Canada and to our other Canadians.
CP...Hope your mother's move went well. Thanks for stopping by.

Way to go Nancy ! I'm really proud of you. Keep up the good work. My son was in a cooking contest for all of the top Chef's in the Western part of Arizona yesterday. It was held at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix. I went with my daughter-in-law and it was fantastic. My son's team came in 4th out of 16. It was his first time so we were really proud of him. When I was getting ready to go I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. Everything I tried on the wear was way too big. I finally found a pair of dress slacks in my closet that I haven't wore in over a year. They were too big but I wore a jacket with them that helped hide how baggy they were. I never go anywhere to dress up so I had no idea how big all of my dress clothes were. I guess it's time for a shopping trip. I'm still exercising like crazy. I'm losing way more inches than weight right now. My Doctor says that's just as good as weight and that I wont have to worry about saggy skin with all of the inches coming off. I wish I could send you all of my fourteen's Nancy. Their all like new.
Linda, congrats on your weight loss as well. Keep up the good work.
Jes, Welcome back. I've missed hearing from you. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I'm going to my parents in Texas this year for Thanksgiving. It's a 16 hour drive but I haven't been home in several years and my parents are getting up there in years so I thought I had better make the trip. Keep us posted on your progress.
Judy, Welcome to our little group. We don't care if you are over fifty. The more the merrier. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Well, I have to run for now. I have my 18 month old grandson today so I need to get my exercising done before he gets here. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Ladies
I have just spent the last little while reading up on all the posts starting back at the beginning of Sept—a lot to catch up on. Congratulations to those losing weight, Brenda 19lbs and 7.5inches, Nancy down to a size 14, Linda 9lbs, Mary 6lbs and to everyone else keeping up with their exercise and food plans and working so hard to keep healthy, its great to read about everyone’s effort to do the best they can and look after themselves—keep up the good work everyone!!
Nancy, good going on your exercise and look at you—size 14, what an accomplishment, keeping up with all that and the grand kids will have you in onderland before you know it. To answer your question re the Canadian country stars, before they become well known names most spend many years in Nashville trying to get their big break This years winners in various categories were-Terri Clarke, Paul Brandt, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Jason McCoy & The Roadhammers, George Canyon (won 2nd place on Nashville Stars 2yrs ago)Shania Twain, Deric Ruttan, there were many more but these are probably the most widely known. I don’t know if you are familiar with any of these names. Like you I am a big country music fan, in 2003 I got to see Alan Jackson live at an outdoor concert near Vancouver B.C. which was great, Joe Nichols opened for him.
Brenda, I can’t believe the amount of exercise you are doing daily, what an inspiration to all of us. Your weather sounds absolutely fabulous. Here in the far north most mornings are below freezing.
Mary, you were mentioning your lack of energy and it made me wonder if you have had your thyroid checked, sometimes women suffer from lack of energy only to find they have low thyroid. Great going on your 6lb loss!!
CP-how great for you and your grandsons with your daughter working on her recovery, my best wishes to you and your family. What about that secret, have you revealed it yet?
Linda, way to go on the 9lbs—congrats—keep it up, you are doing good.
JANN& Fauve-looking forward to seeing your posts again.
ParisFox, Hi Judy, welcome to this thread, I don’t think you need worry about being over 50 here, we look forward to everyone’s help, support, experience and ideas. I am 66 and was welcomed warmly when I joined a couple of years ago---so jump right in whenever you wish—glad to have you.
For myself I did get some exercise in and am following my food plan however I did not get around to entering my food into fitday, this is something I must get back to this week as for me it really helps to see the exact percentages as well as the the calories. I was up and down weight wise all last week and ended up on my Sunday weigh in only half pound down but better than up!! For exercise I am doing “walk away the pounds 1”(watp1) 20 mins and 1 mile, I am using three pound weights with this, stationery bike and walking. It’s an effort to get back into the routine but it must be done. I will post my weekly results on Sundays. I am continuing my weekly challenge with my sister& BIL. This will last until year end and it is a good motivator for me.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and I am glad to be back

Getting things ready to go camping. Unless I can come up with wireless somewhere I could be a few days before I am back on. Know I will have to come home and get mail and do laundry every now and then so can checkin then too.
Have a great day,

Good Evening Ladies,
My little mini vacation from watching my granddaughter and grandson is about to come to an end.Our son in law's schedule worked out that he had 6 days off in a row.He works 10 hour shifts so he will still get in his 40 hour week by working Wednesday through Saturday this week.It has been a nice break but I sure have missed my granddaughter's smiles and company.Hard to believe that she will be a year old in 19 days.I really enjoyed getting up when it was daylight instead of getting up in the dark at 6 AM.
I have banished my scales from the bathroom for a week.I get on them way too much.I am hoping that this will give me an added to push to really watch what I eat and stay on Induction.Sure don't want to see the scale go up instead of down when I weigh again next Tuesday morning.I'll let you know how my experiment goes.
Judy....you are very welcome to stay here with us.I don't think that there is a way to change the thread name to read 50 and older. If anyone knows let me know.I don't want to end this thread and start another one since we have had it going for over 2 years now.You could always start another thread for ladies your age if you don't feel comfortable here with us.Jes is in her 60's and has been a big part of this thread during its existance.
Brenda...Congratulations to your son for doing so well in the cooking contest.Does he ever do any cooking for you and all of his siblings and their families?I knew you had to be losing lots of inches with all of the exercising you have been doing.I love hearing how well you are doing.
Jes.....I loved George Canyon when he competed in the Nashville Star contest last year.Wish we could hear more of him here in the states.Glad he is getting some well deserved awards in Canada. He always seemed so humble and such a kind person when competing on Nashville Star.I am a big fan of Shania Twain. As you know she is a big star here in the US too.
Linda...Enjoy your time camping.I will look forward to hearing from you whenever you have a chance to check in with us.Hope your weather is favorable for camping.Where will you be going camping? Was wondering about that since you know that I lived in the St Louis area for a few years.
I've been enjoying all of the postings we have had. It's so nice to see everyone checking in.Have a nice evening everyone.

Hi All:
Just a quick note to say that I'm back here! I've not gone off the plan at all, but have been really bad about not posting anywhere. Sorry about that.
Seems I'm losing about two lbs. per week on average. I'm staying true to the plan without denying myself. THIS FEELS SO GOOD!
I had to banish the weigh-ins because I was being really caught up in it, but other than that, everything is really good. I'll be back here again to write more. Take care everyone. Happy WOE!

Hello ladies!
I have been quite busy these last two weeks with the move back to Vancouver.
I also took a little trip to Victoria; it was great.
I have gained some weight lately, a combination of
restaurant food and not caring much... bad idea...
I am back on track though and hoping these few added pounds will come off quickly so that I can start working on losing serious weight again. I want to see a big drop by Christmas time.
Yikes, did I just say 'Christmas'???
Wishing you all a fantastic day,

THAT got your attention, didn't it? I got my Country Living magazine last week and this recipe was in there. I looked at it and decided that I could make it low carb/low sugar, so I experimented. It worked. These are very good.
According to Master Cook, they're 2.2 carbs each and 14 calories, BUT while I believe the carb count, I'm thinking that MC didn't compute something because the calorie count seems a little low to me, but maybe it is accurate. Anyway, these are nice for an occasional treat, and my DH likes them! His only complaint was that they didn't have enough chocolate chunks in them. But, it was plenty for me since ANY sweet at all seems to be almost too much at times.
I don't know where the recipe place is here, so I'll post it for you all here if you want it. Just say the word. These are really good if you like ginger snaps AND chocolate. That's what they remind me of. And, remember, I don't do Splenda anymore, so these are sweetened with Stevia, which, by the way, is getting easier and easier for me to use. I really like the stuff and I'm rid of the nasty Splenda side effects. :agree:
Otherwise, even with these cookies, my weight continues to fall. I need to update my stats, but I was hoping to do it when I get below 200, and since I'm not weighing much now, I won't know until I finally do weigh. Getting below 200 will be a milestone for me, for sure, so I'm waiting to weigh until I think , really think, I might be there.
You guys take care. Don't work too hard.
Hugs, Twillie

I love ginger snap cookies ! Will you please post the recipe for your cookies so I can try them ? I don't eat alot of sweets but they sound like just the thing for a occasional snack. Keep us posted on your weight loss. We are all routing for you.
Fauve it was good to hear from you. Looking forward to seeing your regular posts again.
The weather has gotten chilly at night here so my joints are screaming. I'm still exercising but some days are little more difficult than others. I'll try to post more later. Got to run and get a cup of hot tea before the grandkids get here. Have a great day everyone.

CHOCOLATE MOLASSES COOKIES
Recipe By : Twillie
Serving Size : About 30 Preparation Time :0:30
Categories :
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 1/2 cups almond flour/meal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground cloves
1 stick plus 2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 dropper-fulls Stevia, DARK -- Sweet Leaf Brand liquid
2 dropper-fulls regular Stevia - Sweet Leaf Brand liquid
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1/4 cup dark molasses
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 cup bittersweet chocolate (or chips), chopped
Heat oven to 350. Line two sheets with parchment paper.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves, set aside.
Soften butter in a measuring cup, beat the butter and the Stevia mixtues together. You can use a strong spoon; you don't really need the mixer here.
Add the egg and egg yolk. Mix well. Add the molasses that you have measured into the measuring cup you used to melt the butter. Leaving the residue in the cup will help the molasses pour easily out into the mixing bowl.
Add the dry ingredients; mix well.
Add the chocolate and mix all together.
The dough will be slightly thin, but not too thin. The cookies will spread some. Drop them by full tablespoons onto the sheet. Leave about two inches apart for the spreading.
Bake for about 17 mins or until firm. Allow to cool thoroughly before removing from the sheets. They are a soft cookie and will easily tear when hot, so let them cool.
Master Cook says these are 3.5 calories each/per 30; .3 g protein; 2.2 carbs.
I don't know if this is absolutely correct, but it's what MC stated. I store these in the freezer and take out a couple at a time for a treat. Even my DH likes these, but says he'd like more chocolate chunks. The amount is fine for me. :agree:

Hi Ladies,
Wanted to stop by and say hi while my granddaughter is napping.
It has been such a thrill to me to continue to see my slacks get loose on me.I put on a pair of jeans that I hadn't worn since last winter. They are getting baggy on me too.Getting back to exercising about 2 months ago has been a big key for me to lose some inches.Doing both strength training and stationary bike riding is a good exercise combination for me to work both my upper and lower body.
Danielle...Fauve..I love your name. Thanks for giving us a name to go by.Are you no longer near your granddaughter since your move? Good to see that you are back on track. Please continue to stay in touch.
Twillie..it's been nice seeing posts from you. There is a whole recipe area on this forum if you would like to post your recipe there. If you would like to know how to get to that area of the forum let me know.I've been wanting to try Stevia.I have heard some people say that it has an aftertaste.Do you think that it so and does it add an odd taste to iced tea for instance?
Brenda....When our weather got cooler a few weeks ago I sure could feel it in my bones. This week it has been in the 60's so I haven't felt it too much.I always feel a little achy when trying to get adjusted to the cold winter weather. You were mentioning that it was getting chilly at night.I was curious as to what the cool temperature is.It's been in the 50's here at night which makes for great sleeping weather with the window open a little. It's 61 now.
Have a nice Thursday everyone.

Hi, Nancy:
I'm so happy for you. I know how it feels to get into those smaller sizes. :agree: WOW! You're in a size 14 now? I'm fast approaching it; I'm in 16s. So, it'll happen and I'll be there again. By then, you'll be in 10s or smaller! Keep up the good work. :)
Yes, I found the recipe forum. Talking about these made me go make a batch. They're baking now. Noticed this dough wasn't as thin as the last batch. But, still smells the same, and I'm sure they'll be fine.
It took some getting used to using Stevia, but I'm getting the hang of it. The trick is to find one brand and use it until you know it well. I use only Sweet Leaf and it works for me. I started by counting the drops in my iced tea, but now I know how much I need by eyeing the dropper, so it works well. It makes tea sweet tasting, not bitter, IF you don't overuse it. That's the key.
Have a great weekend, if I don't get back here before Monday to wish you one. Take care.
Hugs, Twillie

Hey, CP:
Oh, yeah. Splenda was doing a number on me, and I didn't even know it! I loved and adored my Splenda, but it wasn't to be after all.
I only figured it all out after starting on PPLP and from process of elimination and then trying to add it back into my diet. And I just keep trying.
This past weekend, I used it at dinner Sat night and again at b'fast on Sunday. By noon, I was experiencing the same symptoms I'd had before for a number of years and had been attributing to old age and being fat! Not a pretty picture.
I'm much better off without it and that's why I'm a convert to Stevia.

So.....Twillie...what are the symptoms?

Fri, Oct-14-05, 07:17
Hey Guys,
A response to the recipe on the recipe board tells me that what I suspected is true. She says that the calorie count is way off. So, use this recipe at your own risk! ;) I'm sorry about it, and it will be a long while before I post recipes again!
Judy, My symptoms were that after sitting or being in bed or my recliner, I would have to stand and give my legs the opportunity to work again. I'd have to stand about 4 or 5 seconds before I could move. This would happen in theatres, restaurants, and at home. It was like my legs were asleep, but they weren't asleep, just really heavy feeling and I couldn't move. While I had to stand for a bit, I had to lean on a chair, table, or my husband! It was so strange because I have lots of energy and could move just fine other times. I didn't know what it was, but I'd suffered from it for years. I mentioned it to a doctor one time, and he gave me the standard reply that I needed to lose weight and that I WAS getting older! You know, the answer that a lot of docs give us when they have no idea what might be wrong with us.
Within 48 hours of being off Splenda, those symptoms abated and didn't come back until this last wkend when I had some more of the white stuff. Also, after about three days off Splenda, I noticed that "fog clearing" that I'd heard of people talk about when on low carb plans. I'd NEVER experienced that before and I'd been low carbing, off and on, for several years. I think, that too, was attributed to the Splenda use.
After searching the Internet for symptoms, I only found one poster who listed my set of symptoms. Most said that it caused various aches and pains, etc. for them. I've also suffered from arthritis for a while now, and that, too, is much better. Maybe, that was caused by the Splenda as well. I don't know. I only know that it does affect me, so I stay away from it.
Have a great day today, Ladies! I'll be thinking of you all as I move thru my day. Busy, busy, busy is what mine will be. :agree: Take care.
Hugs, Twillie :)

Wow, Twillie....I'd stay away from it too. I sure hope it never does anything like that to me. I love the stuff. But if it did that to me I sure wouldn't use it either.
I use the most by using DaVinci SF syrups. I use them in my shakes and in my hot chocolate. Wouldn't want to have to give that up. I haven't used very much of the powdered Splenda, and I do know that DaVinci uses the liquid because their syrups have 0 carbs and 0 calories so they aren't using the powder. Maybe it's something in the "filler" that they put in the pourable Splenda rather than the Splenda itself that caused your reaction?

Thanks Nancy, my full name is Danielle Fauve, I use one or the other! I was born in francophone Belgium, and it is a french name.
My granddaughter is still in Whistler for a few weeks, and it is very strange, and very quiet, to be without her. It is not for long; my daughter plans to move in the city and register for additional classes in digital filming.
I enjoy my time off though, I have always liked to be by myself, as long as I know that my girls are ok and close by.
My youngest daughter lives in Vancouver, and I enjoy having her as a close neighbour (I have moved in a tower just next to hers). It is quite the change of life!
Thank you too CP. I am glad to be connected again and to be able to talk to you all. You are such a nice group of ladies.
I'm doing a lot of walking these days, in order to lose the weight as fast as possible. My biggest weakness is drinking wine in the evening; it is so nice to sit on my balcony, watching the boats go by and sipping a cool glass of chardonnay... Ha, what a hard life!!!
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend. Bye for now.

Hello Ladies
Since returning from my extended trip I have recommitted myself to my weekly challenge to-- eat right according to the plan I follow, enter food intake daily into fitday.com, exercise at least Monday thru Friday, weigh in on Sunday mornings and measure inches on the first of every month. I am working on this as a short term challenge taking me through to the end of the year.
GOAL: Lose 1.5 pounds per week by following a specific food and exercise plan.
Chart progress daily in Fitday.com and enter the weekly averages on a spreadsheet. .PLAN:
· Protein Power=
daily Calories 1200-1500
Fat 60-70%
Protein 25-30%
Carbs 25g 5% (minus fiber)
Water 4-5 litres (approx 15 8oz glasses)
Supplements
· Exercise=Mon-Fri, at least.
Currently I am doing “Walk Away The Pounds 1” (watp1) which is 20 mins and 1mile, and with this I use 3lb weights. Stationery biking and walking which includes walking outside and during bad weather doing mall walking.
Weekly report for week of Oct 9—15
Calories 1240
Fat 101g 71%
Carbs 22g 6%
Fiber 6g
Protein 64g 22%
Water 13 8oz glasses
Exercise: Mon—raking 60 mins
Tues
Watp1—20 mins 1 mile
Bike—5.18 mins 1.05 miles
Walk—150 mins 6.75 miles
Wed
Watp—20 mins 1 mile
Bike—7.35 mins 2.73 miles
Walk—30 mins 1.5 miles
Thu
Watp—20 mins 1 mile
Bike—8.12 mins 3.05 miles
Walk—45 mins 2 miles
Fri
Watp1—20 mins 1 mile
Bike—14.14 mins 5.01 miles
Walk—60 mins 2.7 miles
Total
Watp1—80 mins 4 miles
Bike—34.8 mins 11.84 miles
Walk—285 mins 12.95 miles
Raking—60 mins
Weekly total—7.7 hrs 28.8 miles
So now after all that I have no weight loss to report for last week—bummer, oh well I’ll just keep on keepin’ on.
It has been 6 weeks now since I’ve had any artificial sweetener in my coffee, still just cream.
I hope everyone has a good week and is able to keep up with their food and exercise plans while being busy with all your activities.

Being over 50, and suddenly "over 50" lbs overweight came together in my life during a time of huge stress. I have had breast cancer, and 3 strokes and recovered well ....but the stress of some other things going on brought, I don't know what....
Anyway, the weight has caused diabetes to be a problem, along with NASH (diabetic hepatitis). So, I am quite determined to lose the rest of this.
I started at 217, and down to 189 (as of Friday, 10/14). It will take as long as it takes.
However, any ideas on how to keep from being discouraged -- for whatever reasons, I feel bigger now that I weigh less.
Thanks!

I think the most encouraging aspect of this way of eating (WOE) is just knowing that I am much healthier than I was when I was on that devil low-fat/high-carb WOE....Drat whoever came up with that anyway. That's how I got like this.....trying to lose the 10-15 pounds that menopause caused. 10 years later, I heard of Protein Power...and now I'm doing much better, and I feel a LOT better.

Hi Ladies,
It's going to be a busy week up until Friday when our son in law has a day off.Guess I got a little spoiled last week when he had both Monday and Tuesday off.
I've been getting in plenty of exercise but need to work more on what I eat.I will try harder this week which will be the ending of my two month challenge.I haven't lost as much weight as I wanted to lose but I have done well with exercise and have lost inches during this time.
Both my oldest daughter and I have birthdays this week. She was born the day before my 26th birthday. My granddaughter will be turning 1 on the 30th so this is a busy time with family birthdays.
My dad gave me money for my birthday a few days early.Since he is 79 I wanted to get something that I would appreciate and remember him by.I picked out a very nice pair of gold hoop earrings and with the remainder of the money I got a grill pan.I've been wanting a grill pan especially now that outdoor grilling season has ended.
Jes...I just noticed that it takes the two of us about 5 minutes to ride a mile on our stationary bikes.I can really feel the benefits of riding my stationary bike and ride it on the alernate days that I do strength training.I try my best to ride it for 6 miles which takes me 30 minutes.I have also bee busy doing yard work.Lots to do before winter sets in.
Annie...I'd like to welcome you to our thread.I started this thread over 2 years ago and I am so thrilled the way it keeps going.I know what you are saying about feeling bigger.Did you happen to keep any slacks from when you first started to lose weight? It's a big morale booster for me to put something on that I wore before starting low carbing almost 3 years ago. It's nice to see how baggy that piece of clothing is now.You have done really well having lost 27 pounds already.Keep up the good work.So sorry to hear about the different health scares that you have endured.
Judy...Like you were saying I know my health is much better since low carbing.I haven't lost all of the weight that I was hoping to have lost by now but I know my health is much better with low carbing and the pounds I have managed to lose so far.
I want to wish everyone a good week ahead. Will try to check back in again tomorrow.

I've tried so hard--absolutely no cheating and I've been walking about a mile and a half every day. Hopefully some of these many pounds will go away forever! I'm 59 and a breast cancer survivor of 1 year and a non smoker for 10 months--Yipee!!! :D :D :D :q: The only problem is I have to take a lot of meds and I'm afraid that will stall my weight loss. Is anyone else taking cancer medication and still losing weight? :q: Sylvia

Hi Ladies,
Wanted to stop by and say hi.As my granddaughter gets older she is getting more active so she keeps me on my toes.In another 11 days she will be a year old.She is more active than her brother was at this age that's for sure.
Hope everyone is having a good week and enjoying nice fall weather.
CP...can't wait to see your web page and find out your secret. You are keeping us in suspense.
Sylvia..it's so nice to have you join us.Congratulations on your 14 days on Induction.Did you weigh? Hope you saw some good results but don't forget to take your measurements too.If you are exercising alot your loss just might show up more in inches lost rather than pounds lost.Take that into consideration too.
It's a good idea to take your measurements when you first starting losing weight so that you have that to go by too.
Hope to hear how everyone is doing.

Good Morning Ladies,
The weather is has gotten cooler at night and in the early morning. It's my favorite time of the year in Arizona. I'm still exercising alot but for the last week I've cut back to three days a week at Curves instead of five because my joints have been hurting from the change in the weather. I've decided to wait a few more weeks to weigh or measure. I figure as long as I'm eating right and exercising there's no hurry. I have five weeks until I go home to my parents and I'm hoping to drop some more weight as well as inches before then.
Nancy, I know what you mean about the grandbaby keeping you busy. My daughter is in the middle of opening their second toy store so I'm helping with the 18 month old grandson for a few weeks. Thank goodness I don't have Adam more than twice a week. He is so active that by the time he takes a nap I need one too. I'm still watching the 3 year old granddaughter five days a week and I watch the 4 year old grandaughter three days a week. Next year everyone will be in school but the 3 year old and the 18 month old. Adam will be in day care by then so all I will have is Jewels , the 3 year old. She is really sweet and just likes to hang out with me and play on the computer. I've told all of their parents that when Jewels starts school I'm done babysitting and that includes the summer. I love all 14 of my grandchildren but there is such a thing as too much togetherness.
Sylvia, welcome to our little group. You will find that the ladies here are fantastic. Good luck with your weigh-in. Nancy is right about losing inches. I've found that I'm losing alot more inches than weight. This is good as you wont have all of that sagging skin when your done losing. I still have 40 pounds I want to lose and it's coming off really slow because of my age as well as menapause but I figure sooner or later the fat will just give up and go away. You said you were taking alot of meds so you need to understand that can make losing harder. You will find that regular exercise will help a great deal. When you first start exercising your body muscles retain fluid so you may weigh more as well for a short time. God luck and I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Linda, congrats on the weight loss. Be careful as you enter phase two. Alot of people make the mistake of adding too many carbs too fast and they end up back in Induction. I speak from experience. Looking forward to hearing about you progress.
Nancy, I forgot to wish you a Happy Birthday. I hope you and your daughter had a great day. I guess I better get going for now and get some work done before the kids get here. Have a great day everyone.

Thank all of you for your responses. I finally got up the nerve to weigh and I've lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Not too bad, huh?
I couldn't figure out why I was retaining so much fluid, but the exercise explains that. I'm up to 2 1/2 miles a day now, going from doing absolutely nothing to actually getting my butt out there!!! I did measure when I first started and am amazed at the inches lost. Who really cares about the pounds when no one else sees the scale? Y'all have a great day and keep low-carbing! :yay:

Congrats Sylvia on the weight loss. Seven pounds is fantastic. Keep up the good work. I sometimes feel fatter now than I use to. I think it's just me wanted to lose faster. You put in all of the time and hard work and some days it feels like your going no where. Then the next time you measure or weigh you find that you have done really good. I decided a few months ago to just do the best I can day after day and sooner or later it works.
Welcome Kerry, this is the place if you want to meet alot of fantastic ladies with great support. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
How are things going Nancy ? Jes I'm glad your back. I missed reading your posts. I hope everyone has a great day.

:bday: Nancy!
A big welcome to those that have joined since I last posted, about five weeks ago.
I had surgery for skin cancer on my nose, and it was extensive. I was off work for three weeks, and the swelling still hasn't gone down.
The good news....I can trick or treat without a costume as the Bride of Frankenstein.
The bad news.....I look like the Bride of Frankenstein. :help:
I had to stop exercising during this recovery, except for walking, so I bought a treadmill. I'm walking a mile in 30 minutes everyday and listening to my CD player. I've got to admit that I love the treadmill, it takes away every excuse a gal can have....it's never raining or too dark or too cold! I didn't gain or lose during my down time, so it's back to the program!
It's good to catch up with ya'll and Twille, I'm still a Stevia convert, no aching legs, no stomach bloat...I'm with ya on the Splenda boycott!

Sylvia, I have relatives that live in Nederland. My cousin Cindy and her husband lost pretty much everything but they are going to stay and start over. My relatives are Boudreaux's, Thibedoux's,Trahan's and many more. I love to go home to visit but I don't want to live there. We have been in Arizona for the past 15 years. My husband retired from the Air Force here and we loved it so much we just stayed. By the time we got here I was tired of traveling and moving around the world. It was great fun but we were ready to stay put for more than two or three years at a time.
Roxi, glad to hear the surgery went OK. Have fun with the look as it wont last much longer.
Kerri, stay safe and let us know how things are going .
Hope everyone has a great week.

Hello ladies,
Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I am not doing too well. I am off the diet most of the time, can't seem to stick to it at all, and am putting on the pounds like crazy.
Have been doing lots of walking though, maybe a bit too much, as my feet are terribly sore today and I will just take it easy for the day. I really like walking along the seawall; after nearly 2 years in the mountains, I crave the ocean!
Kerri, please be safe! Roxie, be well, take good care of yourself.
Thinking about you all, and wishing you a fantastic weekend.
Someone please send me the will to get back on track...

Hi Ladies,
I took a little break from low carbing to celebrate my 55th birthday.Boy oh boy can the pounds come back on fast.Tomorrow it's back to Induction for me.The remaining birthday cake has been put in the freezer so no more temptations for me.I didn't have a birthday cake last year since we were busy with wedding plans for our youngest daughter's wedding and waiting the arrival of our granddaughter. This year I wanted to celebrate my 55th birthday with a cake. Now that it is behind me I need to get down to business once again.
Thank you so much for your birthday wishes. It was a very nice birthday and I know I am healthier at 55 than I was at my 50th birthday.Still need to go to the DMV to get my driver's license renewed and picture taken. At least my weight is lower for this picture.
Brenda...I cam sympathize with you since my joints were really hurting the two previous days with the change in weather. We have had a big cool down with temperatures in the 40's during the day compared to the 70's a week ago.Good luck as you get in shape and lose more weight in the 5 weeks leading up to the trip to visit your parents for Thanksgiving. How long has it been since you have seen them?
Sylvia...Congratulations on losing 7 pounds during Induction. That is really good. Can you tell the difference in how you are feeling yet?
Keri.....Welcome aboard.Be safe down there in Florida. Please check in and let us know how you are doing whenever you get a chance.
Roxie....It was nice hearing from you.Glad you are recuperating nicely from the skin cancer surgery. How are you doing on your treadmill? How far do you go on it daily?
Fauve...I join you in being off track but plan on getting back on Induction tomorrow.I know the first few days will be rough but after that I will feel better and hopefully lost a few pounds.I also enjoy walks on the beach. We didn't get to the ocean this year and I missed the walks on the beach. It's about a 350 mile trip from here so wish it was closer but I do love living in the mountains.
Hope everyone has a nice week ahead.Check in whenever you get a chance.I will let y'all know how I do on Induction.

Still looking for buddies in their fifties? I'm 58, widowed 8 mos., and in my 8th wk. of my version of Atkins. I feel better now than I did for the last 2 yrs. I gained 80 lbs. during a period of stress and now that the stress is over I have to lose all that poundage. I'm just about half-way there and feel a lot better.

 Hi! It's a beautiful Monday morning and a fresh new day to start all over!
Thank you all for the kind words, I think especially Brenda for saying it won't last long! From your mouth to God's ear! :)
Fauve, I'll make ya a deal....I won't let my face get me down, if you don't let life's circumstances stop ya from getting back on your program. Sometimes, going off the program is a vicious cycle. Ya don't feel good from the carbs and therefore you lose your motivation. I'm betting that three days on the program and you're as commited as ever. I'm a little annoyed at myself for letting this surgery turn my head to thinking mashed potatoes would help. It didn't, and I physically felt awful. That little manuever starts the whole "why bother" routine in my head. It ain't gonna win, and I'm not letting ya give up either! Come on! We can do this! :cheer:
Nancy, I'm glad you had a nice birthday...cake and all! ;) I am walking a little over a mile in thirty minutes at a 2.5 mph pace. I found that if I put the treadmill on a slight incline it's easier on my hips and I put David Allen Coe on the headset singing, "You don't have to call me Darlin, Darlin" and go to town! I think my only regret with the treadmill is that I didn't get it sooner, it's wonderful, and (to quote L'Oreal), I'm worth it!
Sylvia, this is just a suggestion, but you might try knocking off the Splenda and Equal for a week and see if your condition improves. I found that drinking diet soda with either really hurt my legs, they felt like lead and ached. The artifical sweetner also knocks my keto sticks to a real light pink. You might give Stevia a try as a sweetner. I have made cole slaw for the family using Stevia and not one single person noticed it wasn't sugar. :)
Bobi, my heart goes out to ya. Been there. Welcome and God Bless Ya.
Kerris, keep your head down and let us know how you're doin as soon as ya can.

Good Morning Ladies,
Sylvia, Beaumont isn't that big so I would wager that our people know each other in one way or another. As for the water retention. I find if I drink my water slowly all day long that I do better than if I drink alot at one time. If you are exercising alot your body will hold water for a few days sometimes even a few weeks. Stay away from salt, artificial sweetners, anything with vinegar, and make sure you prop your feet up at the end of the day. Are you taking any meds that might make you hold water ? All last week I held water but then I figured out that if I was going to have a period it would have been at that time. It's strange but my body still has a tendency to swell and bloat when it would have been my time of the month.
Rocks hang in there. I hope things go better for you this week. I love my treadmill too. I walk every morning for 40 minutes five days a week. On the sixth day I walk 60 minutes. I started out at 10 minutes at 2.5 and I've worked my way up to the 40 minutes at 3.5. My hips are screaming for the first 15 minutes but after that my legs get warm and it's easier. Keep us posted on your progress.
Fauve, I can't begin to tell you how many times I had to start over. It can be really depressing so this is what I do. I finally decided that at my age there really isn't a great rush so I picked a day and made sure I had everything I needed to suceed in the house. Perge the house of all temptation. Tell yourself that today is the day and do the best you can. At the end of the day take stock of how well you did and make a mental note to fix the areas you were weak in the next day. Keep a journal of everything you put in your mouth. It really helps me stay on course. If you cheat don't beat yourself up. A small cheat can lead to a full blown binge if your too hard on yourself. We all have good days and bad days just know that we are all here for you . You can do this !!!
Nancy, I hope your joints are feeling better today. It was 67 this morning when I got up. This is my favorite time of year here. It's been several years since I've been home. I love my family but my Mom is a control nut so I've found over the years that our relationship is much better from a distance. I'm looking forward to seeing all of my brother's and sister's. This will be the first Holiday we have spent away from our grandchildren. They aren't really happy about Mimi and Papa not being here for the Holiday but most of them are old enough to understand. I hope the family is doing OK. It's great to see your forum going so well. I can't tell you how much help you have been not only to me but to all of us. Thanks just doesn't seem to cover it. Have a great day.

Good morning ladies,
I didn't get last week's report posted yesterday so i will do it today. I am having a terrible time with my computor, it's freezing up, won't boot up, won't shut down, so slow i could scream, just generally a pain in the b**t! i have done the nuke and pave thing, i have anti virus programs but have decided it's just time to replace it. i am working on a project right now that i want to finish first. i am scanning all the wedding and vacation pictures from this summer and then burning them onto cd's for all the family and friends. it should just take me a couple more days and then i will get a new hard drive and operating system.
Nancy-sounds like you had a good birthday, good for you. Good luck on restarting induction, i'm pulling for you:thup:
Brenda-sorry to hear how Katrina and Rita has affected your family. Your weather sounds down right lovely to me. We had our first snowfall this past week, thank heavens it didn't last long but certainly a warning to get the house and car winterized. You must be looking forward to your Thanksgiving trip.
Fauve-i can emphathize with you on how hard it is to get back on track and finding the will to stick to it. I think most have gone through it on our journey to better health. Sometimes I think we must not look at it as being on a weight loss program but as a way to achieve better health for ourselves, not for our family, friends or doctor but ourselves so we can be around a good long time and enjoy a quality of life while we're at it. Maybe to get inspired again it might help to go back to the basics, read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, track your food intake at Fitday.com, use a pedometer on those lovely walks on the beach and you may be surprised how much exercise you are getting---HTH- just my 2cents worth:o
Sylvia-Congrats on your 7lb loss and you are so right about inches vs pounds. i take my inches on the first of every month and do find it encouraging to see the inches go down even if the pounds don't move. I agree with Brenda re the swollen legs, all of those things can be a factor. Keep up the exercising.
Kerri-Hope you have escaped the worst of Wilma, I cannot even imagine what you must be going through during this time. My wishes for you and your family to stay safe.
Roxie-I hope you are starting to feel better and recover quickly enough that you will have to go purchase your halloween outfit:D Good going on the treadmill, somehow a treadmill has always seemed very daunting to me. I also like stevia and have used it both in the liquid form and in packets for 3yrs, mind you i also have used splenda, sweet-n-low, sugar twin etc over the years with no effects. i did quit using equal (aspartame) a couple of yrs ago because of reports I read. I did stop using any sweetener in my coffee 6 wks ago because there was none available one day and haven't gone back to it since. i do have AS in some food products and i don't seem to be impacted by it one way or the other. It's a good thing you were able to pinpoint what was giving you problems and find something that didn't.
Mary-I hope you're keeping well.
Bobi-Welcome to the group.
Linda-Congrats on your half pound loss.
Have a great week everyone

Thank you, thank you so much for all your good advice and support!
So far so good today. I seem to be in control.
I did get rid of all the temptations and I am eating according to plan. I too am retaining water like crazy these last few days, surely a consequence of carb overload. So today, I am drinking cranberry water, it is very diuretic. I mix 2 cups of unsweetened cranberry juice in a gallon of water, and I drink this throughout the day. I do stay close to a bathroom!!!
Wishing you all a fantastic day.

I've done really well staying on plan today.Fauve we will have to cheer each other on since we are both trying to get back on plan and stay there.

Good monring Nancy. We have no camping trips planned untill we take of this Dec. for three months. We do have a hotel trip this weekend to our great neices christening. Then two weeks after that we are going to my brothers for three or four days. Seems things are really getting busy around here.
I hope more weight comes off before we leave as I want less pounds on me when we leave.
The sun is shinning here but chilly, it is 44 right now but a wind chill of 37. I really do not mind this kind of weather.
The furnace man will be here today for our furnace check up and when he is gone I am going to town for my flu shot. I have asthma and Myasthenia Gravis and my Dr. says I need to get the flu shot. Cannot talk my hubby into getting one though.
Have a great day and catch ya all later,

Mary,
According to Ann Louise Gittleman, in her book 'The Fat Flush Plan', cranberry juice is a powerful diuretic, thanks to its active ingredient, Arbutin. It sure works for me!
Nancy,
For me too, it is better if I limit calories, but for the moment, I just want to get back in ketosis, so I eat plenty of protein and fat, I don't count cals at all, I eat 5 or 6 times a day to avoid cravings (I have so little willpower that I can't resist cravings!). I avoid even veggies for the first few days.
This afternoon, I did a bit of yoga, easy postures that relaxed me and soothed my aching back (from a book called: Yoga for the young at heart). Afterwards, I went downstairs to soak in the hot tub (there is a pool and a hot tub in the main floor of the building; very practical!). It did me a lot of good.
I find it so comforting to know that you are doing Induction with me, Nancy; thank you for the help.
I will be watching the Biggest Loser too tonight; I need all the inspiration I can get, lol!
I will be good tonight...

 Hey to everyone!
Sometimes life can make ya laugh. I had just such a day.
I decided this morning that I would call and make an appointment with the hairdresser....scars or not, the roots had to go. I was figuring it would take about two or three weeks to get the appointment so maybe I'd be looking better by then. WOULD YOU BELIEVE that my hairdresser had an open appointment at 5 PM today? I mean, what are the odds?! I bit the bullet and took the appointment and I must say, my hair has never looked better!  My hairdresser is young and gorgeous so I was a little self conscious, but she kissed me and then she threw some kind of whammy on my hair because this can't be my head! God Bless her, she went above and beyond the call of duty and I honestly look and feel a lot better. She got a nice tip! ;)
This is my day two on induction and the keto stick was between small and moderate this evening. It's working! I'm tired and goin to bed now...ah, the joys of carb withdrawal! I hear ya Nancy and Fauve. :daze:
Ya'll take care....Roxie

Good for you Roxie! That took guts! I am not sure I could have done it.
I am glad you are doing Induction too; the more the merrier!
It's day 3 for me, and I feel way better this morning.
The scale has started to go down, 2lbs, so I'm happy... still a long way to go though, just to get back to where I was... oh well...
Today, the plan is basically the same as yesterday, lots of protein and fat, to keep me full and happy. We had a short storm during the night, lots of rain and wind, and this morning, the sun is back, so I will go for a nice long walk on the seawall.
You know, I am getting quite used to having my time for myself again; with the little one still in Whistler, the days are mine and it's wonderful... Mmmmh. I am not that anxious anymore to have them in town asap; I do feel a bit guilty about this, but eh... I won't tell them, lol.
Wishing you all a fantastic day

Today is my third day on Induction and it's getting easier as the days go by.I am down a few pounds so I am quite pleased to see that.Don't have any cravings and just enjoying the foods that I'm eating.
Fauve...I understand quite well about enjoying time for yourself.I've been enjoying the weekdays that our son in law has been off here lately. He was off last Friday, the weekend then Monday and Tuesday. It was nice to sleep in those days and just do what I wanted to do.He works 10 hour shifts so he's still able to get in a 40 hour week with having a few days in a row off. He's only been on day shift for a year which has worked out great with our granddaughter's arrival. Before day shift he was working from 4:30 PM till 3 AM and slept during the day.He wasn't seeing much of our daughter and grandson when working that shift plus we never had any time off during the week since our son in law's shift and sleeping schedule were so whacky. His day shift schedule is working out great for everyone.
Roxie...your hairdresser sounds like a keeper. How wonderful that she made you feel right at home scars and all.Glad you were able to get your hair done and how wonderful that it has lifted your spirits.Good luck on Induction.Nice to have someone else join me and Fauve as we battle Induction. The three of us are now on day 3.I'm out of Ketostix.Never had much luck with them due to all of the water I drink.
Fauve..how was your third day on Induction?
How is everyone else doing?

Good mornin' everyone. Glad to hear everyone is doing so good! Had drs appts for my three months tests the last few days and so far everything is clear. Yea!!!!! The fluid seems to be going down, but I weighed-yuk-and have gained 2 pounds and have not lost a single inch. Really disappointing. :tears: However, I keep on with my mantra--don't give up, don't give up, don't give up. Anyhoo, I'm staying on plan and just enjoying this woe. :yum: Hope everyone has a good day. Sylvia

 Hey Mary! Hey Linda, Jes, Sylvia, Fauve & Nancy!
If I could, I'd share Heather (my hairdresser) with y'all. I've followed this gal through three salons, and if she moves again, I'll follow her again. I'm sure you've all had the same awful experiences with hairdresser's that act like they are doing ya a great big favor just looking at ya, or WORSE, they give ya that look that says, "What do you think I can do with THIS?" Heather really cares, and I believe she could find femininity in a pile of cow droppings. She thinks she is just a hairdresser, but she is much, much more. She can do more to make you feel good about yourself than any psychiatrist, and it only takes her one hour and no medication is needed! ;) The first time I went to see her, she said, "Would you mind if I dyed your eyebrows, it will look so natural and pretty." I said, "Heck no, I don't mind looking natural and pretty!" After I was all finished, she said, "Hmmmm, just one second, I need to fix that." And before I knew what was happening, she'd laid down some wax on some kind of paper under my brow and she yanked that sucker with all her might. :help: I'd never been waxed before, so it was kind of shocking. THEN, when I went to pay for the cut and color, there was no extra charge for the eyebrow dye or wax. She has done that everytime since and with no extra charge. Do you know how nice it is to wake up in the morning and have eyebrows without running in the bathroom and grabbing the makeup kit? (I'm blonde so it was a first for me).
Oh, sorry, I've digressed a bit....
Day Four on Induction: Keto stick at LARGE! Feeling fantastic and all hunger and cravings have passed. Today's treadmill music was provided by Trace Adkins singing, "This Ain't No Thinking Thing".... :rheart:
I hope we hear from Kerri in Florida soon...been thinking about her.
Bless Y'all .. Roxie

Roxie...what a great story. You are fortunate to have found her. I can see why you follow her. I would too.

Good Evening Friends,
Today makes day 4 on Induction and I've done really well. Can't help but get on the scale every morning and so far I am seeing it go down.
Roxie...don't know why I hadn't noticed before but where in PA is Oxford? Should get out my trusty atlas.I grew up in the Washington DC area ...right outside of DC in Maryland. We did alot of traveling in PA especially the southern part.Trace Atkins is good too.I adore Kenny Chesney..His song She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy gets me going on my stationary bike.
Judy...good luck being back on plan.Where does your sister live in Mo? We lived in the St.Louis area for 5 years.
Fauve...how was your day?
Hope everyone has had a nice Thursday. The weekend is right around the corner. Our granddaughter's 1st birthday is Sunday and our daughter is having her party the same day.Hope I can be good and she has something that I can eat and enjoy. She was talking about having pizza.I could always eat the toppings and leave the crust. If my hubby wants pizza I'll eat the topping and don't even miss the crust.Do any of the rest of you eat pizza this way?

Hello Nancy, Sylvia, Linda, Mary, Roxie and Judy!
Glad to read you are all doing well.
I just had a fantastic day. I feel wonderful, no more cravings, hunger is down and so is the weight...yeah, life is good!!!
It never stops to amaze me how this woe frees me from cravings and hunger. Like I told you yesterday, I have been eating as much as I wanted for the last three days, but today, suddenly, the cals have gone down dramatically; I am just not hungry anymore. I am full of energy. I went for an hour walk this morning, then again this afternoon for another hour.
I am glad though that I have no party coming; pizza, Nancy? Gosh, I would have a really hard time not eating the crust!
I am so bad at temptations. I have a tendency to hide when I am trying to lose weight; just cooking my own meals instead of going out. That way, I have a much better chance at being successful. But I guess it is the reason why I get off my diet so often; I like so much to go out with friends!
Anyway... have a good evening everyone.
Tomorrow, day 5...

Nancy...my sister lives in Nixa, MO. That's just a little Southwest of Springfield (for those of you who don't know MO). LOL Very nice area. Wouldn't mind living there myself someday.
I do a lot better when I do my own cooking and don't go out with friends too.

Good Morning Everyone,
Nancy, I have a great recipe for pizza. My whole family loves it. The crust is made with cream cheese, egg, and parmesean cheese. If you want the recipe I'll be glad to post it for you. I hope you have fun at the party. Congrats on the weight loss. I'm also a big Country and Western fan.
Fauve, I'm really glad that things are back on track for you and Nancy. Keep up the good work. I always do better when I stay home and cook for myself. My husband is going out of town on the sixth for a week and I'm planning on enjoying the fact that I wont have to cook everynight. I'm a salad person and my husband gets bored with salad if I give it to him everyday.
Roxie your doing great !! I wish I could find a hairdresser like yours. It seems like I either get someone who is right out of school or who is just going through the motions. The several times I've gotten a good hair cut it seems that the girl moves by the time I go back. I have to go and get my hair layered tomorrow so wish me luck.
I'm going to help my daughter this weekend. We have to finsih getting the store ready for the grand opening on the 4th. I'll be glad when this store is up and running so everyone can get back on a decent routine. I hope everyone has a great day.

 Good morning to all!!
Yep, day five on induction, and all's right with the world. :) I kind of made myself a promise not to weigh until Monday, but it won't matter what the scale says, I feel so much better, and I feel thinner. Today's exercise music was provided by Travis Tritt.
Nancy, Oxford is right on the Mason Dixon Line. The closest town to me is Rising Sun MD. There are hundreds of Amish farms in this area, although, thankfully, it isn't the tourist attraction that is in Lancaster County. It's rural and I love it. I ALSO love Kenny Chesney!! I've seen him in concert three times, and I bought a long sleeved t-shirt that is my "lucky shirt" at one of his concerts. The back has the 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem' logo! My neice (21) won backstage tickets to one of his concerts, and she got to MEET him. He gave her a kiss and she couldn't move. He said, "Honey are you ok?"
Brenda, good luck with the the hair work tomorrow and also enjoy your weeks vacation from preparing food for anyone, but YOU! It's always nice when they go away and give ya a chance to miss em! ;)
NOW, we all start to face the weekend and temptation. Nancy, I eat just the topping off the pizza, so go for it! It's also Halloween weekend, and on Monday morning I just know one of the guys in the office will bring in a bunch of candy (heavy sigh). That's ok....THIS time, I'm gonna make it!!
Fauve and Paris, I am kind of the opposite of you. You are tempted around people, and I usually am fine....until I'm home alone with temptation. No, not HIM, but he keeps ice cream in the freezer!

Roxie....that's one of the advantages of living alone. I don't have carbage in the house.
But, then, I don't have the excuse that someone else brought it in and made me eat it!!

Bobi, The crust on this pizza is fantastic. You can actually pick the pizza up to eat it.
Deep Dish Pizza
4 ounces of cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, 1 ounce, I use the kind in the can
1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasonig
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
8 ounces Italian cheese blend or mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/4 cup of pizza sauce
4 ounces of mozzarella cheese, shredded
Assorted toppings: pepperoni, ham, sausage, 4 ounce can mushrooms, green peppers, bacon, grounds beef, etc.
Dash of Italian seasoning for top of pizza
In a medium bowl, whisk cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Whisk in eggs until the mixture is well blended and smooth. Add parmesan and seasonings, then stir in the 8 ounces of mozzarella until it is completely moistened. Spread cheese mixture evenly in a 9x13 pan that is lightly greased and lined with parchment paper. Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes or until evenly browned. Let cool completely. When nearly cooled , carefully pry up the edges to loosen from the pan. Ease a spatala under the whole crust to loosen. Keep the crust in the pan. This makes it easier to remove the finished pizza later. Refrigerate, uncovered until shortly before you are ready to serve.I leave the crust uncovered in the refrigerator for several hours. I think that allows it to dry out abit so it can become crisp during the second baking with the toppings.
Spread the chilled crust with pizza sauce, then cheese and toppings of your choice. Lightly sprinkle with the seasoning of your choice. Bake at 375 about 15-20 minutes or until the toppings are bubbly. Let stand a few minutes before cutting.

Hello ladies,
Things are going well. I ate according to the plan yesterday, did a 30 min workout by Joyce Vedral in the morning, then went for a 45 min walk (cut short by heavy rain), and later in the afternoon, did a yoga tape (yoga on a ball) for another 45 min.
I slept soundly all night, for 10 hours actually! It's the second night that I sleep so long. I wonder why.
I just had a light breakfast of canned salmon and green tea, and I am on the verge on deciding the exercise plan for the day!
Brenda, that pizza crust sounds wonderful, I'm gonna try it for sure, thank you.
Have a great day, you all.

Good Afternoon Ladie
Today makes day 6 on Induction.I have had a good week sticking to what I should eat.Would love to keep this up till the new year since I want to get to Onderland by then.Would be nice if the pounds would keep going off at this rate but I know this won't happen.
I've let up on my strength training till I get under 200.Seems like when I start doing it after stopping for awhile a few pounds creep on due to adding muscle etc..That gets so frustrating to me since I know I am eating right etc..IT becomes a vicious circle for me which is hard to break.Thought maybe this time I would just get in alot of walking and riding my stationary bike and see what happens the next two months.I enjoy the strength training but haven't seen the results with it that I wanted to see.My arms are still as flabby as ever.My dear hubby commented on my flabby arms since he knows how I do the strength training three times a week.I told him how frustrating it is for me.
I am still so inspired by the show The Biggest Loser.I heard that they do about 5 or 6 hours of exercise every day and the ladies only eat about 1200 calories a day so that is why they are losing like they are.
I also sometimes wonder if age and stage in life makes a difference with how we lose.I now believe that I am in full blown menopause since it has just about been a year since my last period.I remember that it came on about the time my granddaughter was born which will be a year ago tomorrow.
Just some thoughts on this cool Saturday afternoon.
Brenda..thanks for the recipe.I take it that it's a recipe that you use and really like.I'll have to give it a try sometime.Does your hubby like it just as well?
Roxie and Fauve ..how are the two of you doing on Induction?? Day 6 for the three of us,Yeah!!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

 Friends! It's Sunday afternoon and the grandson (almost 2) just left, and I'm exhausted!! Those little blessings can wear a Granma out pretty fast!
Day Seven and I'm doing good. I even had some temptation to overcome and I made it! Depending on what part of the country you are from, you might have no idea what I'm talking about, but around these parts, a Philly CheeseSteak is a real treat. Cowboy Bob was ordering from the local deli for himself and his Amish friend, and asked what I would like. I got the Cheese Steak, NO roll. Just steak and cheese and it was so good! Then Saturday night, the steak dinner at the Eagles Club. I had Steak, sauteed mushrooms, salad and about a quarter cup of green beans. NO baked potatoe or rolls, and to be honest, I didn't miss it one bit. I had food left on my plate when I called it quits!
Brenda, I've made that pizza and it is good. In the crust, all you taste is cheese and spices. :yum:
Nancy, I agree that time of life and stages our bodies go through can affect weightloss. I've pretty much decided that I'm not gonna weigh myself tomorrow because it's my TOM, and no news is good news! Today I feel bloated from that, and I don't think expecting the scale to be my friend would be prudent. ;)
Hey to ya Windy, Parisfox, Bobi, and Mary! Ya know, we still haven't heard from Kerris, I sure hope she's ok!
