Hey yeah, I had forgotten about the exercising causing ya to hold water for awhile. I started withthe weights too,,hmmm,,,
I have had energy out the roof today,,,skimming through the housework! And the bathroom has been really busy...cant wait to see what tomorrow holds!! I know this is working,,who care what I weigh if I am shrinking!
Getting ready to go to Michigan,,and my daughter called and said they were snowed in! We have nothing here, hopefully theirs will be gone by Sunday when we leave.
I dont know about the rest of you, but I really am enjoying our group here! Its like a community coffee klatch every morning to get on and see what everyone is doing. Trips, grandkids, weddings, recipes,,,its all so much fun keeping up with each other! Dont worry, while I am gone, I will be checking in every day! Wouldnt want to miss anything!

Musicmama - hope the baby is alright. There's a lot of bugs going around, so hopefully it's just a virus. Ice storms are awful! Hope everything works out for you.

I skimmed through the thread - did anyone come up with an article that supports the theory that fat cells fill with water when empty? Just wondering, because I did stall for months and never had a 'whoosh' - I know others have, but I never did. So, I guess when I was stalled I really was not losing any fat cells?

Well, I am losing weight now, albeit it is likely water yet. Was down a total of 5 pounds as of this morning! If only it were that easy to just keep going and lose it all. But, I know that's just a fantasy - reality tells me that eating this way makes me feel good and I plan to stay that way.

Well Ladies,

Seems like our 10 pounds at a time is going to stay right in this thread where it was born and should live. I'll try to get some sort of lineup done tonight (maybe a couple) and type them in tomorrow for an example and we can pick which one (If any) we want to use. Also I suggest we don't have to have a certain day to post an update on the challenge as we all probably weigh on different days. Just copy and paste the latest update there is. What do you think?

Deneen,
Thanks for organizing this for us.I have had a good week but glad it is Friday. The first week with 2 month old granddaughter Mariah has been an adjustment period for me.It will get better as we get into a routine. She isn't sleeping through the night yet and it is impossible to keep her awake during the day.

Just to let ya all know,,,the baby is fine!! Thank goodness!! Cant wait to see him! Leaving this afternoon sometime.
I panicked yesterday when I got on the scale, I had a 2 pound gain and had been doing everything right. Well, today I got on,,and had a 6 pound loss! Hooray! I am gonna keep track and see if that is a pattern before a whoosh. I think thats the biggest whoosh I have ever had. I still have 3 to lose from the holidays though, but I aint fussin!!
Hope ya all have as good a day!!

That's good news Musicmama. Congrats on your weight loss and hope you have a wonderful time with the baby.

Deneen, Thanks for getting us going in the right direction and keeping us organized.

No loss this morning, so I would guess I've lost all of the water weight now and anything after this is, hopefully, body fat loss. Had one bad moment last night when all of my grandson's chocolate candy was sitting there staring at me. But, I substituted a cup of tea with a bit of cream and Splenda. That worked well - I'll have to try it again the next time I get a craving.

Have been thinking about the 10 pounds at a time challenge and don't really know what I'm doing but here goes -- I'll try a couple options with examples and we can see what we all think will suit us best. Just remember this is a test only a test. Oh yeah don't forget if any of the information is something you don't want to put down --- just omit it from your line. That way those who want can and those who don't want to can still join the fun.

Same basic stuff but not as much info. Actually we could combine the two and those who wanted to add more could and those pressed for time could go for the shorter version. This obviously isn't rocket science IT'S JUST FUN. Only a way to keep up with how we're all doing.

Let me know what you gals think. If it's OK with everyone we can start with this weeks weigh ins and go from there. The day you weigh doesn't matter as everyone doesn't weigh on the same day just do your own thing and paste and copy the latest list.

Does that sound OK to everyone?

It's so nice to see all of the posts here.Hope we all hang in here and don't give up.For awhile there last year there weren't many posting so I am so thrilled to see how lively we have gotten once again.

This is Friday evening and boy do I feel it.The hardest part of watching our 2 grandchildren is getting up at 6 AM during the week.Only had to do that 3 mornings a week while our daughter was on maternity leave. We would take our grandson to school so that our daughter wouldn't have to take the baby too. Then we had a break when our grandson was out of preschool for Christmas break. This week has been rather tiring getting up Mon-Fri at 6 then having the baby all day.Need to learn to get to bed earlier but that is so hard to do.

Musicmama...what wonderful news to read that the grandbaby is fine.

Deneen...I like what you have suggested for the 10 pound challege.Do we have a start date yet so we will know what weight to go by? I was thinking maybe the 1st since so many people(me included) made a New Year's resolution to do better with losing weight.Plus...I have done really well watching what I ate this week and have a loss. The smilies should be a lot of fun :yay: I enjoy having fun like that :)

Congratulations on the weight loss, Musicmama. I envy you.

Congrats to you, too, Carmen on the resistance. Over time it should become a habit. Lost my craving for sugar and donuts and such the first time I was on Atkins.:agree: Now when I crave sweets I know my blood sugar is out of whack!

Grammiedee, thanks for the 10 pounds challenge. It has really motivated me.:hyper:

I started Lcing in the 70's when Dr. Atkins published his first book. Lost 10 pounds--then gained it back again--while still on the program. I would have nightmares about taking a bit of something wrong--it was weird!

I am still having problems losing so yesterday I went to the Atkins site and downloaded all the info I could find. Wouldn't you know, things have changed since his first book. Back then on induction you could have nuts, cheese balls and some other things you can't now. I also realize I eat/drink waaay to much cream.:yum: So now I'm going to start the REAL induction tomorrow. :D

Would've started today but I went to Phoenix to get my real estate license--I'm a professional person now!

Arizona B, we didn't stop at Anthem to see your kids' store. We knew the weather was suppose to get back so wanted to get over the hill before we got hit--too late--snow started at Cordes Jct and all the way into the Verde Valley. Going to be interesting tomorrow--it will probably snow all nite.:exclm:

JAnn,
Just noticed that we were posting at the same time. That doesn't happen all that often.

I tried Atkins back in 1972 I believe. What I remember about it was that it was all protein and cheese and no veggies or salads.I lost about 20 pounds within a few months time but couldn't stick with it since the foods were so limited.

Musicmama...congratulations on your weight loss.I don't think that I have ever had that big of a whoosh over night like it.I know you must have been so thrilled after that weight gain the night before.

Deneen...I must have been composing my post when you sent your second posting since you mentioned that we should start with this week's weigh in's.Now my question is.....should we have a certain day, say maybe Saturday or Sunday for everyone to weigh so we will be on an even start.Don't want to make this complicated so we can do it however y'all feel most comfortable.

Nancy

JAnn
Fri, Jan-07-05, 21:36
Nancy, what I remember is a cheese ball with bleu cheese, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese rolled in walnuts, fudge made with SF chocolate pudding, cream and peanut butter, 1 little salad a day and meat, meat, meat and eggs, eggs, eggs. :exclm: (misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#) Staying faithfully on it for several months several different times I would lose about 10 pounds and then start gaining again! Very discouraging. It did help with my gluten intolerance and hypoglycemia, though.

I'm hoping for better success this time.

grammiedee
Fri, Jan-07-05, 22:54
Nancy,

I think we can do the weighing anytime but maybe we should post on a certain day. Don't really know -- if we all post once a week (any day) and just copy and paste the latest list it should be alright. Don't want to mess anyone elses weigh in day up especially if they are in any other challenges. I know I'm in a couple others but I always use whatever weight I was during that week --- as a matter of fact now that I think of it -- I always post all challenges on the same day -- don't think it makes a difference. That way everyone can do their posting when time permits.

I'm like you I'd like to use this weeks weight as I had that 2 pound loss. Will watch other posts tomorrow and then start a list tomorrow evening. That sound OK to you?

Deneen

I will join you all and if there is a special post day let me know. I started Jan. 3rd and my weigh in will be Monday. So I will probably post my info on Monday also.

Do I understand you right that we coppy and paste everyones info in our messages?

Have agreat day. Got my bag loaded with my food as I am getting ready to head over to pickup my Mom and head south to Shelbyville to visit a sick aunt. I have taken a protein bar for snack, figure I will have a 3.5 ounze protein, salad and a veggie and took an orange for fruit. I also put in a cheese stick just in case I do not get back this afternoon. I will do supper here at home.

Bye ladies,

Okay, guess we'll get this one started.

A couple of things to remember:

1. You DO NOT have to join this challenge if you don't want to -- it's just for fun. Arizona mentioned it in the journal and it has jusst grown since then. Just a way to keep track of how everyone is doing and have a little fun at the same time.

2. You DO NOT have to post your weight if you don't want to -- that is left completely up to each one of us.

3. You are not required to make any comments on anyones' weight unless you want to.

4. Just copy and paste the latest list and add or update your information.

5. You can post at any time -- no special day-- as not everyone weighs on the same day.

Let's have some fun with this one. Will post this now and type in a form next. If anyone has any other ideas please mention them. This is for and should be some fun.

Thanks for checking into that.I don't know anything about smilies but they sure are cute.

We have all had a good start to the new year.Hope we can keep up the good work.

I was also thinking that we need some kind of symbol to use once we get to our 10 pound loss and start on the next.I am thinking ahead since I hope to be able to keep on with losing and have lots of 10 pound losses.

If it was me I would go back and edit your "mess". Start by placing your cursor at the beginning of the message and left click the mouse to place the cursor there. Then go to the end of your message and press SHIFT and then left click your mouse. That will highlight the entire message. Then just press DELETE on your keyboard. That will clear everything out.

Now go to the last list message and place your cursor at the beginning of the list, left click, go to the end of the list, SHIFT and left click. This will again highlight the area you want to copy. Now RIGHT click your mouse and click on COPY. Go back to your message and click your cursor where you want to place the message. Go up to the top of the screen and left click EDIT and then left click PASTE. Good Luck!!:)

We are going to stay at a hotel Friday night for our grandson's basketball tournament. The hotel has a 'continental breakfast' - nothing I could eat (cereal, muffins, etc.). I plan to bring a cooler and don't think I'll have any problem with snacks, lunch, or dinner on Saturday. But, I'm at a loss as to what to bring for breakfast.

This is one of many times that I wished I liked hard boiled eggs because that would make it so simple. However, I really dislike eggs. At home I usually make some sort of crustless quiche on Sunday that I warm up for breakfast all week, such as today's bacon, spinach, cheese, & egg quiche - I'll eat the eggs if I can't taste them.

There's no microwave, so I can't warm up some sausages or bring along some of the quiche to warm up. I do have a small hotpot that I could bring - do you think it would work to warm up something? Any other ideas what to bring for breakfast? I know I could just eat some cheese & pepperoni, but I would really like something hot.

All I do to copy the smilies is highlight from the first letter of the list to the last smilie and then copy. If the smilies don't highlight, they won't copy. I'm not sure what the problem is if they don't. I use Netscape rather than IE but that shouldn't make a difference. If they don't copy for you I can go and put them in. :)

Hello, I have been reading this site trying to get off the sugar AGAIN. This is the day. I have a high protien meal fixed for lunch and will be reheating it soon. I am also commited to go to the pool today. I will swim for 1/2 hr then go to an arobics class for 1 hr (in pool).
I am handicaped and this is my primary way to exercise.
I was doing so well prior to the holidays. For wks I have returned to non stop eating. So with your :help: and support I also will take the 10 pounds at a time.
My weigh in will be a 2PM today.
I have been reading "Atkin's Diabetes Revolution" . It has inspired me. I am scared of being a diabetic. I have all the risk factors.
I will right again tonight if I can get online.......I have a teen in my home. hehe

Welcome. I envy you being able to go to the pool. One of my greatest disappointments in moving to the SW was lack of and indoor pool as that is my favorite exercise--good physically and mentally. I look forward to your posts.:)

Good Morning Ladies, Grammiedee I've been really good for the last 5 days. I got back on my treadmill Monday in ernest. I'm sore but determined. I 've walked 60 minutes everyday and I'm actually looking forward to walking again today. I'm fighting the temptation to weigh every morning. Welcome Marilyn ! I love my pool but it's too cold and wet to get in it right now. I'm determined to lose as much weight as possible before April so I will look half way decent in my bathing suit. It's much easier for me to lose weight in the summer because we practically live in the pool. You will love this site Marilyn ! The is the greatest bunch of ladies. I hope everyone has a great day. Got to run for now I've got some recipe research to do. Did anyone try the Spinach salad recipe yet ? I'm in the middle of trying new soup recipes.

Marilyn...It's nice to have you join us.I want to wish you well.

I'm a little frustrated this week.Last week I was down 5 pounds. Now my weight doesn't want to budge already.Didn't think I would come up against this so soon.As a matter of fact I was up 2 pounds on Monday but it was back down today so I am hoping that it was just water weight gain.I am back to where I was on Saturday.Hope if I continue to stick to it the way I have been doing that I will see a loss come my weekly weigh in on Saturday morning.

Need to go.Granddaughter is waking up.It's her bottle time once again.

Have a nice day ladies.

I almost fell off my scale yesterday morning. I weighed and it showed another 2.5 lb drop. I had to get off and wash my face to get the sleep out and get back on before I could believe it! I'm down today again so now I feel I can announce it to the world. When I lose the 10 lbs I'm going to have my hair done--the works. 20 lbs, nails. I think 25 pounds warrants a shopping trip with my sister!

Music it sounds like your having a good time with the family. My youngest grandson is 8 months old and the little stinker is crawling all over the place and is trying to walk. He's a handful already. I'm sure glad my daughter has to deal with him everday. Nancy, hang in there. JAnn and MrsCee you are both kicking butt. Keep up the good work ! My weigh in isn't until Saturday but I couldn't resist getting on the scales this morning . I'm down another pound. The soreness is going away in my legs and I'm sleeping much better since I'm exercising everday. Deneen don't give up. I find it's always something simple that is getting in the way. Sometimes too much coffee, diet soda, salt, cheese, even pork rines sometimes will make a person stall. Get your book down and go over everything again. Your body may just be readjusting to your new weight. Hang in there ! Carmen , how are you doing ? Linda, looks like you are doing really good as well. Jann I think I'm going to do like you and reward myself everytime I reach a 10 pound goal. I spend most of my time taking care of other people. My husband is always on me to do more for myself. Well, I have to go for now but I'll check in later. I hope everyone has a great day. Time to hit the treadmill.

Carmen....sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well.Hopit is short lived.Since daughter Karen married in November and is no longer living with us we don't have all of the germs brought into the house. She was forever catching all kinds of bugs and passing them along to us.We have both been well since we have had an empty nest.Even grandson Jeremy hasn't been as sick this preschool year as last.

Sorry to hear your not feeling well Carmen. There is a flu bug going around here as well. It seems to be lasting 36 to 48 hours. Several of the grandkids have had it so Im praying they don't share with me. It's cold here again this morning. I'll be so glad when the cold weather is done !! Nancy I'm using Saturday as my official weigh in day too. I got up 3 hours earlier today and I'm full of energy. I think I'm going to take Sunday off from the treadmill so my bodyy can rest. Six days a week should be fine. Hubby is off on Monday so I wont get much done but my treadmill. We're fixin to put some cabinets in the garage and have the floor finished so I can use it as an exercise room. Hope everyone has a great day.

Had a half pound loss today, but will wait till Saturday morning to really count it. I have been trying to really drink a lot more water, and I think its helping. That was always the hardest part for me, but now Im gettng where I crave it. Funny how that works.
Its cold here too in Michigan, got down to almost zero last night I think . Its 20 degrees right now. Oh well, lets get it over with and get on to spring!!

Good Evening Friends,
This morning was my "official" weigh in morning for the week.I was rather disappointed when I saw that the scale did not move down any.It didn't move up any either so I guess that's a good thing.I thought I did really well keeping my carb count down. Now I am hoping that maybe the scales will move down this week.

Decided to take my measurements today so I can track it that way too.I was looking through my notebook and saw that I took my measurements 2 years ago when I started this WOE.I was so thrilled when I added up my inches lost and saw that I am down a total of 33.75 inches.Looks like I lost the most in my hips which was 8 inches lost.It was encouraging to see all of the inches that I have lost the last 2 years on this WOE.

I would suggest that everyone keep track of your measurements so that you can be encouraged when your weight might now go down but the inches do.

Hey Nancy,

You've just convince me to pull out that tape measure for the first time. I now wish I had pulled it out when I first started LCing -- man that would have been something. I guess now that I am doing some exercise (except for the last 4 days) I should measure and see what's what.

Hi Deneen,
So glad I took my measurements when I started this WOE two years ago.I was hoping to be at my goal by now but it was slow going last year.Hope to get to my goal or close by this year.

It is very encouraging to look back and see all of the inches I have lost in two years.I started out two years ago wearing size 1X in tops and pants.I now wear size large in tops and pants and size 16 too.I kept a few size XL fleece tops from last winter not knowing if I could wear them this winter. They are so big on me now that I have given them away and had to go out and buy some size large on clearance just before Christmas.

I decided that I am not going to wear those baggy XL fleece tops.I feel so sloppy in them and they don't show off how far I have come in this weight loss venture.I have also bought a few size medium fleece tops but they are a little snug in the tummy area.

Nancy

nancy, you are so right about taking your measurements. they often tell much more of a story than the scale does. the scales vary from day to day and even hour to hour.

i started taking my measurements when i started low carbing and i do it the first of every month and then enter it on a spreadsheet i made and now i can see the changes right back to jan 2000 when i started. i also enter my weight on the 1st of each month on the same spreadsheet so it's all there. my weigh in day is sunday and the weekly weights are entered on a seperate spreadsheet. worrying about the day to day fluctuations of the scale will drive you crazy:thdown:

for those that are interested there is a site at www.MyBodyComp.com where your measurements can be entered and from month to month it will calculate the differences for you.

Hey, we all must be on the same wave length because I took my measurements yesterday too. I weighed yesterday and I haven't lost anymore but I haven't gained either. My clothes felt looser so I took my measurements. I have lost several inches total so I feel much better about the scale not moving. I use to keep a chart when I first started Atkins but then I stopped. I made myself a new chart yesterday ! I took today off from my treadmill but we went to a Home Expo show and walked for several hours at the Fair Grounds. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Got to run but I'll check in later . hi everyone,
well we have had the worst week here in the far north. on tuesday the daytime temperature dropped to -45c (anything -40 or below is the same in celsius or farenheit COLD ) and then overnight it dropped to -48 and that is how it was every day until saturday, what a horror all you do is hope your furnace doesn't quit or that your pipes don't freeze. since i have a propane furnace and propane gels at -40c i turned my furnace up as high as i could so that it ran continously hoping the propane would keep pumping and waking up several time through the night to check it was still on(the greatest sound in conditions like this is the pumping of the furnace) i had to leave the water running continously in the bathtub and kitchen sink so it wouldn't freeze. i had the car plugged in but the doors were frozen shut, i had no intention of driving it anyway as the tires are square and the ice fog was so thick i couldn't see my neighbour across the street. the schools and most businesses stayed open but i am lucky i didn't have to leave the house, so i didn't get any walking in.saturday started warming up and got to the -30's so got the car running and did some shopping and walked in the mall. we have now warmed up to the -20's with a bit of a wind chill and i'm so thankful i made it through without any problems with the heat and water. my daughter wasn't so lucky , her furnace quit and it took 2 days to get a repairman but she was ok as she has a wood heater as well as the furnace. hopefully this is the worst we will have this winter--keeping the fingers crossed.
i hope you all have a good week

Only down 1 pound this week, but it's better than none or gaining. I think I didn't drink enough water yesterday, and if that's the case I should be down more next week (I hope).

Great idea to measure - I need to do that today when I get home.

Jesdorka - I thought it was cold here in Wisconsin at -22 low and -6 high. I agree it's nasty! We need to warm up.

We also had the cold weather here last week although not as bad as you jes, only around -35. It's going to be nice this week. Right now it is 3:30 AM and it's +5. A nice change.

I must try to do more exercise, maybe that will help.

Good Morning Ladies,
I didn't lose any weight last week but I lost several inches. I feel fantastic and I'm sticking with my treadmill at least 5 times a week. Music and MrsCee , you are probably holding water. If I don't exercise I always retain fluid for some reason. Hang in there sooner or later we will lose. Jes you are doing great ! Carmen when you think about it 1 pound is alot in one week. Take a look at a pound of hamburger. That's quite a bit when you look at it in terms of fat. I don't know how you guys live in such cold weather. Heck it was 49 the other morning and everyone in Arizona was freezing. It was 79 yesterday which is more like our normal temperture for this time of year. I have two of my granddaughters today. The 6 year old is going to spend the night and tomorrow I have two of my grandsons as well as the two girl's. I'm sure I'll get lots of exercise with a 6 year old, a 3 three year old, a 2 year old, and a 8 month old baby. Im going to get up early and get my treadmill done before they all get here. I hope everyone has a great week. I'll try to post more during the week but I've got a busy one ahead.

Hi everyone. I THINK I was down another pound but not sure. I bought a scale--not digital--with large numbers and reaaal small lines in between. I really have to guess unless the line is on the number. Tomorrow if it looks like I'm down I'm going to ask my husband to come and take a look. If I bend over to look the scale changes. (http://misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)

Jesdorka, where are you in the Yukon? We used to live in Alaska and went to Whithorse several times. Also traveled the Alaska Hwy to get from Fairbanks to Ketchikan to visit friends and finally to move to Arizona.

The first year we were in Fbks, everything froze up, the water, the oil, the propane, the furnace (no backup), the inside of our walls to our 10X55 trailer, the car, truck, and, of course, me. We had moved into the place the first part of December--not good! The next year we had a wood stove, trailer well skirted--felt good. We lived in the banana belt of the area and the lowest it got was around -50 F. My husband saw -80 on the thermometer at work! Two years of that was enough, we moved south, back to Ketchikan and then to Kenai.

After 20 years, husband decided that it was just too cold for him so here we are in central Arizona, too hot in the summer and not cold enough in the winter to get the winter gear out so I freeze! Of course, right now it's been really wet and we've been helping friends who got flooded out by the Verde River several weeks ago. We're high and dry.

Have a good day, I'm worn out from all the moving. Figure I don't need to exercise today!;)

I wasn't able to copy and paste so I had to add the smilies.Hope it turned out OK.I am finally down 1 pound so wanted to go ahead and add it.
I've been busy with our two grandchildren so I don't has much time to post. Our son in law will have Thursday off so I will have some time to catch up with everyone then.It has been very cold here too but not as cold as Jes is having it.It is already down to 7 so looks like we will get below 0 again tonight.
Sounds like Brenda is busy with her grandchildren too.We only have the two but our 2 1/2 month old granddaughter was a little fussy today and didn't want to nap so that made for a busy day for me.
Hope to catch up with everyone on Thursday.

Hi all,

Just stopping in to say Hi. Went to doctors today and weighed but it wasn't on the same scale I use for my official weight wo I'm just waiting until I get back to Alabama to weigh in. Scales up here are about 5-8 pounds different and I figure if I started out with Alabama scales that's where I'll continue to weigh. My cholesterol was up form 113 to 127 and doctor wants me to cut out bacon, cheese, and fat etc. I want to loose the weight and then worry about the cholesterol so will take meds and keep some type of LCing going.

Gotta scoot.

i live in whitehorse and have for 32 yrs. it was quite a shock the first winter here as i had moved here from vancouver bc. like you the first couple of winters were a real learning curve:) i live in a 14X80 trailer and have for 16yrs now so i have learned all the tricks of surviving and keeping the house, the car and myself going through a cold spell such as we've just had but sometimes no matter how well you plan mother nature has the upper hand and i have had some pretty miserable experiences in the past. thankfully i made it through this one ok. it's running about -25 now so it seems quite balmy;)
i have never been to arizona but it sounds like a wonderful place to be with what seems to me to be great temperatures:thup: i have relatives that spent a couple of winters in fairbanks and another couple of winters in delta junction and the stories they tell about those winters match yours completely.
glad to hear you are not affected by the floods in your area---keep warm

An Amish boy and his father were in a mall. They were amazed by almost
everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that
could move apart and then slide back together again.

The boy asked, "What is this Father?" The father (never having seen an
elevator) responded, "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my
life, I don't know what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat, old
lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a
button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small
room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small
circular numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued
to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to
light in the reverse order.

Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blonde
stepped out.

The father said quietly to his son...

"Go get your mother."

Wanted to check in and say hi to everyone. My weight is the same so I can't do any updating on my progress.I feel thinner but the scale isn't showing it.

We have had a big dose of winter weather this past week.It has snowed 3 times and now it is bitterly cold.We have about 8 inches of snow out there now.It was -6 when I got up this morning.Schools were closed Friday and again today. Our daughter is bringing the grandchildren by on her way to work. She is going in a little later since she didn't want to bring them out in such cold weather. She should be here shortly.Instead of bringing them out in -3 temperature it will be a balmy 5 degrees!

By the time evening comes I am rather tired so I don't post as often as I would like.Sure miss keeping up with all of you.

Musicmama...so sorry to hear that you burned your hand.

We are all doing great.Keep up the good work. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted because my weight is the same. My clothes are looser but so far no more weight gain. I'n staying at 20 carbs or less and walking on my treadmill 2 - 4 miles five times a week. I'm going to start using my bowflex again 3 days a week. I don't understand why I'm not losing . Everyone keeps telling me it's because I'm going threw menopause and that I might as well just live with the weight. I can't accept that but I'm getting so frustrated. Mu girlfriend told me to go back on fruits and vegetables for awhile but everytime I think of eating fruit I think of all of the carbs. I'm drinking tons of water. Does anyone have any ideal's ? Everyone is doing really great !! Music sorry about your hand how did you burn it ? Deneen, good luck with your weigh- in. Carmen way to go !! I wish I could get going like that. Nancy your weather sounds awful. Stay warm . Got to run for now. Hope everyone has a great day.

hi brenda
it is so frustrating to be doing everything you can and not have that scale go down. remember inches are important too so the clothes being looser is great and the scale not going up is encouraging:thup:
it is rather difficult to say why the scale is not going down without knowing exactly what your daily intake is but here's a few thoughts
you say your carbs are at 20 but what is your caloric intake, i believe that even on atkins calories do count so a person should be aware of what they are taking in and possibly need to make adjustments from time to time.
what is your water intake--a general rule of thumb is that to help you lose you need at least 64 ozs plus 8 ozs for every 25 lbs you need to lose so in your case it looks as if 80 ozs or at least 10 glasses of water per day.
others things to consider--is too much dairy, cheese, whip cream a problem for you, what about artificial sweeteners, diet sodas and frankenfoods, they can all cause problems for some people.
are you getting enough vegetables and salad, what about medications, often various types can cause difficulty in weight loss. you can do a google search to find out what impact any medication including aspirin, cough and cold type meds etc have on weight loss.
it is so hard to pinpoint one particular thing that would cause your slowdown in weight loss and sometimes it's just your body taking a rest;) there is a forum on this board called "tips and stalls" that may help give you more insight.
check some of these ideas out, stick to the plan you are comfortable with and the exercise can only help you--:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:

My hand is much better, thank goodness. The pain was terrible. I was cooking green beans and the lid slid off and the steam covered my hand. Ouch!! Thank goodness I had some white vineger near to help with the pain!:agree:
My weight is the same too Brenda,,,hang in there. It'll come off. We are feeling good and our clothes are looser,,so we can wait this out.I too am doing everything right, and I just knew this morning would show a change,,nope!
Oh well, tomorrow is another day,,,
I have a freind who is 47 years old, has diabetes and has had for years. She was told recently that the diabetes had ruined her kidneys, she is going blind, already is in one eye,,has arthritis in her neck and was told she will have to live with the pain. All this in the last several months. Her cholesterol is dangeroulsy high too, but she is allergic to medicine to treat it. I have tried to talk to her about changing the way she eats,(she has never been on a diet of any kind except Weight Watchers years ago for a few weeks) but her response is, its too late. I am so frustrated with her! But it has given me even greater determination to stay on this WOE, so I stay healthy! I know if she would do this, she would feel better, but she says because her kidneys are so bad, she cant do anything that will cause ketosis. What a shame. She has always been a very active fun person, but now she can do hardly anything at all, even clean her house. It just really upsets me. And all because of ....food! Eating the wrong stuff.
I have another friend that has been house bound now for 7 years because she weighs about 700 pounds! She cant walk without a walker because her knees are crushed. But Thanksgiving she got around good enough to cook a complete feat, all the trimmings, for herself. She cant fit in her wheelchair. She lives alone, has food delivered (Pizza Hut is almost next door! Schwans delivers ice cream and desserts)), has visiting nurses check on her. Her computer is pulled up next to her bed, as is her phone etc. What a life.
But she is a food aholic. She has tried every diet under the sun, and stayed committed to none. Richard Simmons even brought her to a hospital in New York several years ago,,and was visiting her every day,,and she said she was starving to death and left!
These people keep me committed. This is my nightmare. I dont want to be a slave to my appetites, and shorten my life, or ruin the quality of it. I dont want to be a burden to my family, I wan to be able to enjoy my times with them, not sit on the sidelines.
Oh well, guess I just needed to vent today. I am just so concerned for them, but frustrated because I can't help them.
Im thankful for all of you who keep me encouraged,,I look forward to the boards every day. Keep posting! You all are a blessing!!:agree:

Jes,Thanks for the help. I drink anywhere from 10 - 12 glasses of water a day. I was using sweet and low but I stopped last week because I thought it might be the problem. I never use more than 3 packets a day but still cut them out of my diet. I eat one salad a day and we eat lots of vegetables. Before I went on Atkins I ate at least two salads a day but the Atkins book said to limit the salad intake to 2 or 3 cups a day. Do you think it would be OK if i went back to eating two salads a day ? There is always cheese in our house. I try to keep my intake to 3 ozs a day when I eat cheese. My husband loves the low carb sweets so they were always in the house until last week. I stopped using them as well. I'm walking anywhere from 60 to 75 minutes five times a week on my treadmill. I'm going to add my bowflex back for three days a week as well and see if that helps. I've lost 1/2 inch in each of my legs and arms. I'm not giving up. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I just can't accept that I have to stay this way because I'm going through menopause. I have several friends that can't understand why I feel the need to change. Needless to say they are like your friends Music. They make excuses day afdter day for being heavy and never take charge and try to change. My husband says they don't want me to succeed because then they would have to admit that they can change if they wanted to. I thank God everyday for all of you . When I get down and depressed I can always count on one of you to help. Thanks ! I just got through with my treadmill. I walked 4 miles today and I feel much better. Have a great day and thanks again. Jes, I'm going to keep track of my calories for the next couple of days and see what the count is. I may need to adjust my calorie intake .

good going brenda you sound like you are doing everything right. regarding the salad i believe there has been discussion on other threads over the years re the 2-3 cups of salad, veggies etc, the question being --do you measure by weight or volume,-- i personally go along with those that say weight--how can you squeeze salad into a measuring cup:confused: so way back in the beginning when i followed atkins i measured 2 cups of salad on a kitchen scale and found it was alot and since then i have always had a large bowl of salad with my meals usually consisting of romaine, celery, red and green peppers and any other good salad veggies i can get in season here. i have even put the ingredients through fitday and found it comes out to around 3 carbs per serving(2cups weighed) after the fiber is subtracted.i have one bowl that the salad fits in and i don't worry if it is a bit less or more, i don't think you can have too much salad, just be careful of the dressing:yum:. i also follow the same theory for any veggies i eat, i go by weight.

Jes,
I have always been able to lose weight easier if I ate more vegetables and salad than meat. I think I will try cutting way back on my meat intake and adding more salad and veggies and see what happens. I don't have a gall bladder so it is really hard for me to digest alot of meat. I'm going to stick with everything else and watch my calories real close for a few days and see what happens. Thanks again.

Looks like everyone is staying busy.Sure wish I had more time to post.I am down 2 pounds this week.Had a good week.Really watched what I ate and got more movement in.

We are having a winter storm as I sit here.We have had freezing rain all day with the temperature in the upper 20's.They thought that our area would get more snow and less ice but it hasn't turned out that way.

Our grandson finally got back to preschool yesterday. He had been sick then the schools were closed till Thursday due to our icy weather. He only goes on Mondays.Wednesdays and Fridays so yesterday was his first day back. Now I am wondering with this icy weather if he will have preschool on Monday.

I have 1 pound to get back to my lowest on this WOE.Hope to keep these loses going so that I can get to onderland.I have wanted to get there for so long.It would be so nice to be on the other side of 200 and leave those 200 numbers behind.

I will spend some time catching up with all of you.Hope y'all have had a good week.

Well, I'm a Canadian girl, 52 years old, going on 53. I've been on the induction phase for four weeks now and have lost 10 pounds. It's slow but I'm doing better than I have on the other diets. I still have about 75 pounds to go. I've started going to the gym again. This week, I went four times and did 3 miles every time on the treadmill. I feel great. I sweat a lot but I put in a good work out. I'm hoping that going on the treadmill at least four times a week but will speed up my weight loss.

I finally lost a pound. I didn't exercise Friday because I took 4 of my grandchildren to see Monster's Inc on Ice. My daughter and two of my daughter-in-laws went also. We had great seats and all of the kids had a blast. Heck, I enjoyed the show as much as the kids did. We had to walk three blocks from where we parked and three blocks back but the exercise was good for everyone. I took them all to MacDonald's for lunch afterwards. My daughter-in-law is on low carb too so we both ate a salad. I'm so proud of my son and his wife. They have both lost a ton of weight. My son has lost over 40 pounds and his wife has lost even more. When my my daughter-in-law weighed in last week she had lost another 5 pounds. I bought a new work out tape yesterday. It has three different workouts that target the arms, hips and legs. I'm going to start using it along with everything else. My cloths are really loose and I feel great so hopefully the weight will start coming off with the inches soon. Jes, I've been watching my calorie intake as well and I added a few more carbs. Two days later I dropped a pound. Nancy. I think your right so I'm going to just keep going and see what happens. Way to go Windy. Your almost there. Music how is the hand ? MrsCee hang in there ! Marilyn how are you do doing ? Jump in and say Hi and let us know how life is treating you. Larlee welcome !! All of us here try to help each other day to day. Way to go on the 10 pound lose. Keep up the good work. Linda looks like your going to beat me to the 10 pound lose. You knows maybe the whoosh fairy will visit me soon. Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work this coming week.

I just updated the chart.Hope this one is more accurate.I am having problems with coping the smilies so I have to add them back each time.

Larlee...welcome aboard. You are welcome to add your weight loss to our chart.

I missed adding Marilyn to the chart. It was a mistake so please don't think that it was done on purpose.Hope to hear from you soon.

Brenda....what salad do you get at McDonald's? I get the bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken.Just wish that the Ranch dressing was a little lower in carbs. At home I always use blue cheese dressing or oil and vinegar.I really enjoy their salad. It's nice to have that choice when we take our grandson to McDonald's so that he can have some play time on their indoor play area.Congratulations to your son and daughter in law for losing so well low carbing.

Jess...Congratulations on your good weight loss and exercise this week.

I got out my Sweatin To The Oldies video and exercised with it today.Sure felt good to get that movement in.

Have a good week everyone.

Thank you for letting me join your group. I am 53 and from NY. I live 45min from NYC and 10 min from West Point. I am a caregiver to my 87yr old father. I have been doing this since Dec 2000. He had a severe stroke 4 days after my mother died. They wanted him to go to a nursing home but I wanted to take care of him myself. It has been a rewarding experience but I am limited in movement at times. I am and a mother of 2 girls. One recently graduated colleg and is teaching 2 grade in Fort Knox KY. She is engaged to a West Point Grad and will be getting married July 2. It is my hope to fit in a Size 16 dress I picked up at my local thrift shop. My other daughter is a junior in colleg in Reading Pa. She is studing occupational theray. She is on the master plan. Will have it after her 5th year. I had a great month I lost 13lbs. That is because I went back to phase 1 to shake up things a bit. I am trying to reach 191lbs by my daugherts wedding and hope that will get me in that dress. I also started doing a Taebo tape I got from my youngest daughter. I have done it every other day and I am walking away the pounds the other day. I have just started to do strength training with bands this week. Well as you can see I can get long winded but I am so thankful to be here.

Betty,
Thank you for introducing yourself. You have done great and I know you will reach your goal to fit into the dress you bought for your daughter's wedding.

My youngest daughter got married last November. It was a thrill to me to be able to get into a regular size dress for the wedding instead of a plus size dress.I look at the picture from the wedding and I love that I no longer have a triple chin after losing 40 pounds.

I was also a caregiver of a stroke patient. My mother in law had a severe stroke when she was only 59.After being in a coma for 2 weeks and recovering from that then being in rehab she came to live with us.This was back in 1977.My youngest daughter was only 3 months old at the time. Our other daughter was 14 months old since they are only 11 months apart.I've been thinking of that recently since my granddaughter just turned 3 months old.I know the dedication and hard work it takes to take care of a stroke patient.I admire you for that.

Please continue to check in with us.

Tomorrow is the beginning of a new month.I was wondering if y'all want to continue with the chart and smilies.I love having the information in one place like that but we seem to be having problems with it.I am not able to copy and paste it with the smilies. We are also having problems with copying the latest chart.

Do any of you have any suggestions? I was thinking that we could each add the smilies at the end of our posts to show everyone how we are doing. That way we would each be responsible for showing how we are doing.

If you want to keep the chart that is fine with me.We have had a really good start to the new year.Hope we do as well in February.

Betty,

Welcome to the group, and bless you for caring for your father.

Nancy, I also have problems with the smiles and like the idea of putting our own after our posts. As we lose, there might get to be so many smilies after each name that the chart will be hard to read.

I haven't had a chance to post yet this week - was out of town at a basketball tournament, now grandson has the flu. Unfortunately, no loss this week, but with the big loss last week I'm not (too) disappointed - I'll just have to work harder this week.

welcome betty--nice to meet you:wave:. i hope you enjoy our little group.
nancy & carmen i agree with you both regarding the smilies and the chart-good:idea: just looking after our own weight entry on the chart is enough and adding smilies on our signature line would be up to the individual whether they wanted to or not. IMHO.

we're having another snowstorm here today so i'll be getting plenty of shovelling in once it stops.

Thanks for the warm welcome peg and Jes. I need this support group to continue on with this journey. I have really been blessed with my time with my Dad. He was always there for me and I just had to be there for him. It is tough financially dipped into all my savings but money is just a detail in life. Family is forever. I can remember alot of times he put aside his wants for my needs so hey..he was a good teacher. I decided I had to connect with others to be successful in this WOE. I just happened upon this site and am so excited I found all of you. Are you going to just keep adding smiles or are you resetting each month?

Betty,

I don't know where you live, but have you checked for available services for your dad? I live in Wisconsin and, after hours and hours worth of phone calls I finally found a service for my mother. I found each agency very uninformative - I had to ask the right questions to find our what was available. I told them what I was looking for and if they said they did not provide that, I learned to ask if they knew of any plan that did.

My mother has a degenerative disease and my father wants her at home. I was helping with her care, but I work full time and am raising my grandson, and as she deteriorated and needed more care than we could provide for her, I began to look for outside help. What I finally found was that the State of Wisconsin has a medicare waiver from the US govt. and there are some agencies that receive the medicare premium and use it to provide services to keep people out of nursing homes and in their own home. They will provide whatever services that are necessary to do that. As my mother has deteriorated she is now unable to walk, talk, or eat (she is tube fed), and is incontinent. The agency has caregivers come in 5 times per day and they have provided a hospital bed, incontinence underwear, a Hauer lift to move her, tube feeding equipment and the cans of 'food', and a nurse comes in twice per week to check her. It is a wonderful program, but it took a long time for me to find out about it. The cost is according to income and can be free or for a small co-payment. If you have not already asked about avialble help for your father, maybe you could find a similar program for him.

We also help care for my father-in-law since my mother-in-law died 18 months ago. He has Parkinson's Disease, had his colon removed because of colon cancer and has a bag, and had a slight stroke. My sister-in-law, neice, DH and I take turns caring for him. He also wants to stay in his home, and I found things like Meals on Wheels (the lunch was not so much an issue as we provide his food, but he has someone check up on him at lunch time while we're working), a service that provides a phone for the hearing impaired (he is very hard of hearing), and adult daycare centers if he wants to get out once in a while and socialize with his peers. He is a Veteran, and our local VFW loans walkers, wheelchairs, and other adaptive equipment to Veterans, so we borrowed a walker and wheel chair from them for him.

Sorry this is so long, but just want to let you know there might be services available to help you with your dad's care. Best wishes,

Peg

Hey Jes, I finally lost two more pounds. I have 2 more to go before I reach the 10 pound goal for the month. Lord, I've never worked so hard in my life. My legs still get sore if I over do on my treadmill so I had to slow down the pace of my walk for a few days. Nancy if it's OK with you I'll just post my loses with my regular post. I'm not really good with the computer as Jes can attest to. Welcome to Betty. Our group is fantastic ! I take my hat off to you ladies for helping with your parents. We lost my Mother and Father-in-law within the last 5 months. I still believe that my Father-in-law would still be with us if we could have talked him into moving here with us. God Bless you both . Carmen you are doing great !! Keep up the good work. I hope everyone has a great week. Jes, be careful shoveling all of that snow. I don't know how you live in such cold weather. We've had a really damp and cold winter for Arizona. I can hardly wait for suimmer to get here. I'm trying a new stuffed mushroom recipe tonight. It is one carb per serving. I'll let you know how it turns out. Jes, I've been eating alot more vegetables . I think thats what got be losing again. Thanks again for all of the help.

Hi Girls,

Sorry to be so scarce lately. Posting individual smilies in our own post sounds good to me too (never could get them to copy either Chloe) Why we didn't think of that sooner is a mystery to me.

Hi Betty -- glad to have you aboard. Guess what your DD teaches in Ft. Knox and my home is about 10 minutes from the base. I spend most of my time in Alabama with the GK's but do hit home about once a month.

Glad everyone is doing so well. You girls are going crazy and I'm sooo proud of all of you. Let's start lining up those smilies.

I'm still fighting to get the 4.5 off that I regained but did lose 4 of it this week.

Everyone have a good one.

Hi Jes, look likes our little group is becoming quite the item. It's great that so many people are joining us ! Have you noticed how the Atkins people are saying that you can have bread and all kinds of stuff that is not allowed in Induction ? Since Mr. Atkins died it seems like everyone is out to make a buck. I have a girlfriend that just started Atkins and she was told that she could eat all kinds of stuff as long as it was low carb. She couldn't figure out why she wasn't losing. I gave her my book to read and now she is following the plan the right way and losing. Hope everyone has a great low carb weekend. I plan on making some chicken wings and low carb goodies for my husband for the Superbowl. I figure if I have some low carb food he wont eat all of the bad stuff. I have a great low carb crab dip that everyone loves . It's great with celery sticks or Jicama sticks. Well, got to run for now. Check in later. If you want the crab dip recipe let me know.

morning brenda, yes it's great to have everyone here and working toward a common goal and visit people who understand what we are all going through with age, hormones, aches and pains etc:agree:
i have noticed the new direction that the atkins website is taking and i think we should encourage newbies starting on atkins to read dr atkins books and ignore the new induction plan on the website. i was aghast when i first started reading some posts here where people were discussing eating bread etc on induction so i checked out the atkins site myself. we do have to keep in mind that completely new owners have taken over atkins nutritionals and i believe their focus is the bottom line and by using the atkin's name are reeling in unsuspecting newbies. this is not to say that there isn't some good info on the site as long as you understand dr atkins original concepts and weed out the junk:rolleyes:
i would be delighted to have the crab dip recipe as i do enjoy all your recipes that you post here and on the senior support thread.
have a great superbowl weekend--it's not my cup of tea. it is one of the things i enjoy about living alone--no hockey, football or golf:D

I'm back and I see we have some newcomers--welcome all.

The last 2 weeks have not been good. I bought some LC cookies to share with DH for evening tea. I had 2 Fri, Sat and Sun nites. At 6 net carbs I was not over my limit. but by Monday I was really not feeling good, drowsy and headachey. I kept yawning and even almost fell asleep during my job interview Monday. Not good! :nono: Turns out the cookies had gluten in them. Took until now to get it out of my system, get the cravings under control and back to LC.

Now back on induction. Up 5 pounds (still down 5). Oh, well, try, try again!

Looking forward to it. Miss the LC WOE.

I finally broke through the 170'ies. Yahoo. I have been doing a bit better this week and it shows. Only 6 lbs to go for first ten. Hopefully I can do that before the middle of the month.

I am off early from work today, my boss gave me the afternoon off. I am just going to relax and maybe watch a movie or something. There is lots I can do, but it's my afternoon.

Have a good day.

Hi everybody! Been reading but not posting in this thread lately. Just been lazy. I have been fighting the uphill downhill battle recently, but back down today so feeling a little better.

I was reading an article the other day that said low carbing numbers were dwindling. At first I got upset, but then I realized, not really. All of us who are doing it the right way, without all the low carb products and quick mixes etc that we dont really need and are better off without, are still here and working it. Its all those people who jumped on the bandwagon last year when all the hype came out, all the "low carb" products hit the shelves, and they thought all they had to do was eat that and they would lose. When they found out thats not the way it works, they stopped buying it all. It kinda made me laugh after all. People are so gullible.

Well, thats my 2 cents worth for the day! Hope you all have a great LC weekend!!

hi music
i couldn't agree with you more re the reports of lc dwindling, i think you hit the nail right on the head.
all the original lc programs emphasize whole, fresh foods. it's only been since the advent of all the frankenfoods in the last couple of years that we've seen all the controversy and the comments like "i need my lc bread, ice-cream, cookies, candies etc" then complain that low carb doesn't work---geesh:rolleyes:

Good Morning Ladies,
Wanted to stop by and say hi.Seems like last week was such a struggle for me.I thought I was doing everything right but the scales were not kind to me.I was up a few pounds.

I have decided to get honest about exercising.I am now back to riding my stationary bike.Want to make that a part of my daily routine once again.Wish I had never stopped riding it last fall. It's such a struggle to get the momentum back to where I was a few months ago.

I rode my stationary bike both on Saturday and Sunday so I am off to a good start.I want to ride it every day this week to back into the daily routine of exercising.

Need to catch up with all of you.Have a nice Monday.

There was mention of all of those low carb products going by the wayside.

To be honest with you I try my best to stick to the whole natural foods.I have never tried any of those so called lower carb cookies etc.I have enough problems losing weight eating the things I should much less adding in all of those products too.

It's just like the low fat products a few years back.People were eating those and gaining weight. The same can happen with the low carb frankenfoods.

I would rather eat more of the natural foods than eat maybe one frankenfood and start off a craving and not be satisfied.

Hi everyone. I searched the forums to find a thread with people going through menopause.
I was wondering how it has affected others. I'm not a candidate for HRT, due to family hx of breast and ovarian cancer x 3, with my mom and sisters.
It is affecting every aspect of my life right now, especially sticking with my plan. I lost 37 pounds last year and now this year I can't seem to get going.

Hi Cheryl, I haven't had a period in 5 months. I have the hot flashes, night sweats. mood swings, you name it I have it. The hot flashes have leveled off to some degree but they can be a bother. I wont take HRT's because I think the risks out weigh the benefits. Since I started exercising five times a week I feel much better. I do have alot of trouble losing weight. The first time I went on Atkins I lost pretty easy but this time I'm having to work at it harder. I find I have to be really careful as my weight will go up and down because of my hormones. People are always telling me to just accept my new body and forget about losing weight but I refuse to give up just because it takes longer and a little more work. If you are having problems with hot flashes and such there are natural herbs to help that alot of ladies use. Black Cohosh for example is great for hot flashes. I'm sure some of our ladies know more about this than I do but if you go to your health store they will be able to help. Have you tried doing Induction over and keeping your carb count at 20 for a prolonged period of time. Don't forget to drink lots of water. I found eating more vegetables helped me get going again. I hope you continue to join our thread. We have a great bunch of ladies here and everyone is very supportive. Good luck.

Hey Nancy way to go with the bike. I know how hard it is to get back on schedule with exercise. You'll feel much better after a few days. Life seems to always get in the way but I'm trying to stay on my exercise schedule too. Have a great week. Wow Jes, your really doing great. Keep up the good work. Music , I hear the same stuff about low carb going away but I agree with you its just the newbies that have been told they can eat bread and stuff and then get frustrated when they don't lose. I know that most of my problems come from hormones and the fact that I mess up and eat something I shouldn't. I'm going to keep trying and one day I'm going to get it right. I'm going to stick to Dr. Atkins book and in the end we'll all succeed. Hope to hear from you more often. I tried a new hot wing recipe of my hubby yesterday. It was really good. Have a great week and keep in touch.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the encouragement regarding getting back to my stationary bike riding.I have ridden it again today so this makes 3 days in a row.

There was mention of menopause.I go about 6 months then a period comes around although it is rather light.I haven't had any hot flashes or bad mood swings yet.I really think that it does have something to do with me having a hard time losing.I know the saying goes that the older you get the harder it is to lose and I believe it.I stay very busy taking care of my two grandchildren ages 3 1/2 and 3 months and have enough energy to do it.I thought that would be enough exercise but it isn't so I have added back my stationary bike riding.

I also think that age is a state of mind.I sure don't feel like I am 54 and there are many days that I feel like I have lots more energy with my grandchildren than their mother does who is 26 years younger than I am.She was born 1 day before my 26th birthday so we share our birthdays a day apart.

I'm 51...and glad to be on low carb lifestyle...I lost about 4 pounds so far and want to mature with grace if I can...accepting whom I'v become inwardly and outwardly (that is the hardest part, accepting the metamorphose from younger to mature). I'm happily living with the man I love. He teases me affectionately about becoming older, and doing it with as much serenity as one can find. A good friend of mine, once told me that there is a particular beauty in the maturing woman contrary to the youth oriented society we live in. He told me that in a few cultures, especially the native culture, the woman who reaches 50 is considered with respect and looked upon as a wiser one...When I turned 50, my dear friend sent me a congratulation card with a new title as the Wise One. It made me smile. Yes, there are accomplishments to feel proud of, the greatest one is having made it to 50. Yes, I look forward to a happy new phase of my womanhood, with serenity and a will to make it a healthy life, mentally, physically, spiritually. Well I better stop here for now.

Not sure what you are going by so please let us know.We are so happy to have you join us.

I started this thread almost a year ago when I started riding my stationary bike.My stationary bike riding sort of slacked off but now I am happy to report that I have ridden it 4 days in a row.I feel so much better for getting exercise back in my daily routine.

I'm 54 and to be quite honest I don't feel all that old.Guess keeping up with my grandchildren keeps me young at heart. They are 3 1/2 and 3 months. Some people even mistake me for being their mother. Now,that really makes me feel good.My retired hubby and I take care of them during the week while their parents work.

Good luck with losing weight.I look at each day as a new day to do as best as I can with trying to lose weight and exercise.

Welcome aboard. Will look forward to getting to know you.

Hi everyone. I am excited I am down another pound this am. Welcome Caludia. Ialso am fairly new here but everyone is so warm and friendly. Nancy congrats on the bike riding. I will have to look for one of those when yard sales start up. I have been doing my walking tapes and tae bo so that has helped me. I had to start moving because I had lost quite a bit then stalled until I started working out. I started working out Jan 1 and I am down 19lbs since then. I must try to keep moving. Hope everyone else is doing great out there. Have a wonderful day.

Jes, the other day we were talking you told me you weigh your salads . I have a counter top scale but and I weighed my lettuce last night. In order to get 8 ounces of salad I had four cups of lettuce. Is this the correct way to weigh or am I suppose to use a different measurement when using the scale ? I'm doing much better since I've been eating more salad and vegetables but I want to do this right. I'm also cutting back on red meat and eating more chicken, fish and pork. I'm hoping by the end of the week I'll see a noticeable difference. Welcome to Claudia. Nancy I also watch my grandchildren alot. I think it helps to keep you young, not to mention the extra exercise. I had my children when I was young so everyone is always askng me if the two granddaughters are mine. There are some day's that I feel old but for the most part the older I get the happier I seem to be. My health is really great witht the exception of arthritis but as long as I exercise and stay warm I can handle it. I went yesterday and bought more Atkins Basic Three, Essential Oils, and the Dietiers Advantage . I've never used the Dietiers Advantage but my girlfriend uses them and she says they help alot. Is anyone else using them ? Everyone seems to be working hard and doing really good. Music , how are you doing this week ? Got to run for now. Hope everyone has a great day.

yes, that is exactly what i meant. so it is probably more lettuce than you want to eat in one sitting so by reducing that amount and adding some salad veggies to bring it back to the 3 or 4 cups you would be well within the atkins induction guidelines. i really don't think you can do harm with salad especially if you use the lower carb type veggies. for myself i just make a large bowl of salad in advance then i've measured out the cups of salad into my dinnertime salad bowl so i know what 3 cups looks like and now i just eyeball it at dinner time and put the remainder in a zip lock bag and it's good for a couple of days and i always have salad handy.
i take atkins three essential oils, it is awfully expensive here so i am not sure i will get it again i will just try and make sure i get all my essentials from flax seed, vit e,salmon etc. i have not tried the dieters advantage. let us know if you feel they work for you.
going for a cholesterol screening test this am so better get ready

Thanks Jes ! Do you have a Super WalMart where you are ? I was buying my Vitamins and Essential Oils at the health food store but I discovered that they are half the price at WalMart. I bought the Basic 3, Essential Oils, and the Dieters Advantage yesterday at WalMart for less than forty dollars. Thanks again for all of your help. Have a great day.

Jes, Do you eat protein during the day or do you eat most of your protein at Dinner? I'm trying to figure out what I can eat to cut my calories more. Have a great week .

hi brenda

i eat 3 meals a day, no snacks. at each meal i have protein, fat and carbs from veggies and usually some type of dairy.
since i follow the protein power plan i have worked out my body requirements based on lean body mass, this gives me the number of grams of protein, fat, carbs and calories needed to lose or maintain etc. i use those numbers to work towards my goal. even using their numbers you sometimes have to adjust in order to lose. their chart said in order to lose my bmr required 1350 to 1600 calories but i've since found if i stick to 1200 to 1400 i will lose more consistently
i do not conciously divide the amounts into thirds but lunch is usually the lightest meal with the rest divided into breakfast and dinner.
i don't know if you use fitday or on this site the new My P.L.A.N. to track your food intake but i find tracking is a real eye opener when it comes to getting the correct count of all the foods we eat.i've used fitday for 4yrs now and last year i bought my own pc version and so i have a large list of my own custom recipes and so it is very quick to calculate my days intake and to see where my percentages are in comparison to where they should be. over the weekend i tried out the new my p.l.a.n. on this site and it looks very good too.
figuring out how to reduce your calories by the right amount so you don't harm yourself and yet are able to lose is really a challenge and probably done by trial and error. i am also of the opinion that our caloric intake shouldn't be less than 1200 per day and that is about the only thing my doctor agrees with me on re my WOE;)
don't know if this is of any help to you however i wish you the best of luck in finding what works for you

Thanks Jes, I'm considering using the protein plan that comes with my Bowflex for a few weeks and see what happens. I love low carb but Atkins isn't working real well for me right now. I think if I try something new it might kick start my metabolism. Have a great week.

:yay: :yay: Just noticed that I haven't posted in a week. This past week I didn't do all that well on my low carb eating plan. All of that has changed and y'all will be hearing more from me to keep me accountable.

I need something to get me going again and I found just that on Monday.I watched The Oprah Show about her Weight Loss Boot Camp.I decided to join in on the 12 week weight loss journey.I am hoping that this gets me going and keeps me going in the right direction.

I've been having problems keeping to low carbing after awhile.I do OK for a few weeks then slip some. This time I am determined to keep at it for 12 weeks and hopefully see at least a 20 pound weight loss during this time. The 12 weeks will be up on May 9th.

I have done really well with what I am eating these past two days.I started out in earnest yesterday.I am upping my exercise too.Yesterday I exercised to my Sweatin To The Oldies workout video for 30 minutes.Today I again stuck to low carbing and upped my exercise.First I rode my stationary bike for 15 minutes which was 3 miles then I worked out to The Sweatin To The Oldies for 35 minutes. That makes for 55 minutes of exercising which is the most I have exercised since I started low carbing 2 years ago.

It seems like every time I get down near 200 I go backwards and start gaining a few pounds.I am tired of that happening so I am determined to see the back side of 200 and be in Onderland in a few weeks. :)

I have gone on long enough.Thank you for reading this far.Just wanted to let y'all know that I am determined to keep this up and see a new me in 12 weeks baggy clothes and all. :)

Chloesue, I know just what you mean. I too have had a problem this past couple of weeks.

I guess I just have to take it slow and steady and keep away from the scale. That's what does me in everytime. It moves up 1/2 a pound and I get discouraged.

Nancy, I'm really proud of you. It's really hard to stay focused . When I started Atkins I lost almost 30 pounds in nothing flat. Then like you I slipped back into not be careful with my carbs and gained most of it back. I do really great for weeks and then for some reason I screw everything up. I've decided several days ago to quit messing around and get this done once and for all. Yesterday, my oldest daughter and two kids came over and stayed for dinner. They all ordered Pizza. I ordered Hot Wings for myself and ate a salad with them. My Husband threw the left over Pizza away so it wouldn't be a temptation to me. Pizza is one of my favorite things. Normally I would have said what the Hell and ate Pizza with the rest of them but I'm so darm tired of having to start over that I decided to stick to my guns. I will do my best to be encouraging to you and to help you succeed in anyway I can. We're all in this fight together. The fact that you are exercising more will help a great deal. I've been using my Treadmill at least 4 times a week but I always aim for 5 or more. Somedays the Grandchildren get in the way but I'm determined to stay on track this time. Twelve weeks sounds like a good goal to aim for, so we'll see just how much we can accomplish by May 9th. Your right about Jes being a great deal of help. She is always there when I need her and she is an inspiration to us all. Keep up the good work Jes. I hope everyone has a great day.

nancy and brenda, thankyou both for the kind words. i know it is a struggle for us all and i think when we are passing tips and ideas back and forth you just never know when something might click for someone else. i often feel that family, friends and doctors have no idea of how we at our age feel with slow weight loss often caused by medical conditions and medications, having to push ourselves to exercise because of aches and pains and on and on so i really appreciate having on-line friends to visit daily to take inspiration, validitation and good ideas from so i thank you as well. just knowing i've committed to a certain food and exercise plan and reporting it here weekly helps to keep me on the straight and narrow:) (most times:lol:))

Hope all of you have had a good day.

Welcome Cp , glad you found our little group. I know all about snakes, lizzards. frogs, turtles, and finding everything from rocks to gum in the washing machine. I raised three boy's. There were times I wasn't sure I was going to make it through alive but like you my boy's our my heart. I also have two wonderful daughters. They are all grown now but I keep busy with all of the grandchildren. It seems our boy's are having girl's and the girl's are having boy's. We have 13 grandchildren so you can imagine how noisy our house gets on the Holidays. I've been doing Atkins off and on for 2 years. I'm having a difficult time losing this time. I think most of the problem is that I'm going through menopause. I hope I'm almost done. I haven't had a visit from the period fairy for almost 6 months and for the last few weeks I haven't had any hot flashes. Everyone tells me once I'm finished it will be much easier to lose weight. I certainly hope so because I have 45 more pounds I want to lose. Everyone on theis sight is great so once again welcome !

Hi there Brenda, http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sungrin.gif

http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/thanx.gif I'm glad I found this little group too! LOL...I know what you mean on the, "There were times I wasn't sure I was going to make it through alive but like you my boy's our my heart. " I never thought at this age, I'd be doing this again, but here I am and they do keep me on my toes. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/wow.gif you sure have a crew of grandkids...that's wonderful. Ohhh, I heard that menopause will slow you do. I've been there and done that. Thank goodness I'm past that. I don't miss the monthly and especially don't miss the hot flashes, they're horrid. I was in New Orleans a few years ago and let me tell you hot flashes and humid weather do NOT go well together. I didn't want to leave the AC Hotel....lol
I hope you'll be past it soon and on your way to losing weight faster. In the meantime don't give up. We're here to incourage you and support you. Guess I better get my hiney in gear and get ready for work. Have a great LC week-end Brenda and I hope to get to know you better.

Good Morning Ladies,
Been meaning to check in but my days get away with me.I have had a good week and can see the scale going down and the inches melting away.My jeans are getting baggy on me already so I know upping the exercise is helping too.

Guess I am in menopause too but I haven't had too many symptoms. My period comes around about every 6 months so it hasn't stopped yet.I haven't had any hot flashes but just don't like it when it gets too hot.Hot days bother me and now it seems that cold weather bothers me too.I can adapt to cold weather better since it means more layers. It's hard to take a lot off to get cooler, lol.

I am grateful that by living in the mountains of West Virginia it rarely gets above 90 in the summer which is the way I like it.

One adjustment this week is getting used to not eating after 8.I need to learn to eat enough before then so that I won't be hungry after 8.I got into the habit of not snacking when I started low carb two years ago but there are times that I might want a piece of cheese or something low carb in the evening.Guess this is a good habit to get into since so many people can really pack in the food in the evening.

I'll go ahead and send this and come back to chat a bit since this is getting a little long.

good morning cp & kerri, welcome, glad to have you both join our group. you will find lots of good info, support and encouragement here that is most helpful to ladies "our age" trying to lose weight and keep healthy. as for age i believe it is a state of mind that is helped along with good food, exercise and some supplements. i am 65, took early retirement due to health problems when i was 55. i am single with 3 grown children & 2 teen age granddaughters. 1 son and my daughter & granddaughter live close by. i started low carbing with CALP in jan 2000,got my health problems under control with change in lifestyle & medication, after a time tried atkins for awhile and have now followed protein power for over 2yrs, many ups and downs but know low carb is the way for me.

I took a little time to write some notes and try to catch up with all of you.It was nice to see Kerri wanting to join us.

Kerri...welcome aboard. We are always open for new ladies to join us in our efforts to losing weight and striving to get healthier.I will look forward to gettting to know you.I am 54..been married to my hubby for 31 years. We have two grown daughters and two grandchildren Jeremy age 3 1/2 and Mariah age 3 1/2 months.

CP...You were asking if I was maintaining.I guess you could say that I have had ups and downs during my 2 years of low carbing.I try then go back to eating more than I should etc..I have made some permanent changes in the way I eat.Now I have gotten serious once more and want to lose 20 pounds by May 9th and get trimmer in the process.I have a stationary bike that I was riding for 30 minutes a day up until October of last month.Things got quite hectic that month. We were planning for our younger daughter's wedding and our older daughter was expecting her second child.Due to complications from gestational diabetes our daughter ended up having her baby a month early which was one week to the day before her sister's wedding. What a hectic time that was.Our granddaughter was born healthy although tiny weighing in at 4 pounds 7 ounces. So you want to go to Fan Fair.I've been to Nashville but not to Fan Fair.It is quite warm in Nashville in June so I hope the weather is OK for you and your friend.I am a country music fan so I will be looking forward to hearing all about your trip and your time at Fan Fair.Do you have a favorite country music singer?I will cheer you on and encourage you to get back on your treadmill. If I can get back to riding my stationary bike you can make a go of your treadmill. We can encourage each other to exercise. How wonderful that you are raising your two grandsons. How long have you been raising them? They sound like wonderful boys and I can tell you love having them with you.

Brenda...Way to go on eating the wings and not the pizza. We don't have pizza all that often but if we take our grandson to get pizza at CiCi's I will eating the toppings and no crust. That is one of my low carb eating changes I have made permanently.I really don't miss the crust at all.How old are your 13 grandchildren and what are their names if you don't mind telling us.If you would rather not mention their names that's OK.We will cheer each other on as we both endeavor to lose weight and get trimmer.

Jes....it was nice seeing the messages from you.How is the weather up your way? Instead of snow we are getting rain today since it us up to 36.

Need to make a point to check in more often.I really appreciate all of the encouragement and posts from everyone.

Good morning Ladies http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sungrin.gif

Thought I'd pop in and post before I start my day. Just ended my Pity Party (journal) and I'm feeling alot better now. To make a long story short but, NOT sweet....I screwed up and ate 3 sugar cookies.http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/31.gif Todays a new day and I'm back on track!

NANCY....You sound like me, on the "ups and downs." For me, it was alot of changes in my life. I stopped focusing on my dieting and before I knew it...I was back to eating all the wrong things. My trip to Fan Fair is what got me back on track and I feel that being here will help me reach my goal. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/wow.gif I'd say, you've had a hectic month. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/congratualtions.gif
grandma. I'm glad to hear they're both doing fine. My plans to Nashville is a go. Reservations are already made. I have a g/f that lives there and she told me it shouldn't be to hot in June, but what is HOT to her. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/LOLOLOL.gif I'm thinking it's a different type of hot there because of the humitity. My favorite CW singer is George Strait. I told hubby if he's at Fan Fair and I'm able to get his autograph, I'm gonna have him put his name right above my heart and run to the nearest tatoo joint and have them make it permanent http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/71.gif Of course I'm just joking http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/03.gif I've made a promise to myself to start my treadmill Monday and YES we can encourage each other! As for my twins...they've been living with us for almost 7 years now. I call them "my boys." It's been a wonderful experience. It just amazes me how they have their own special bond. I'm doing a website on them now. I'll let you know when it's done. It's been a very long and hard 7 years, but it's okay now and I have HOPE now.

http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hi20.gif KERI & JES

KERI.... http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/welcome18.gif aboard. I'm a NEWBIE also and after reading the past post for this thread, I felt this is the group for me! By golly Keri, I think you're right, you got it! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/03.gif

JES....thank you for welcoming me to the group, it's nice meeting you. I totally agree with what you posted and it sure is nice to have a group, where we can relate to the same problems that life brings us when we reach 50.http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/34.gif

I look forward to....fighting this weight loss battle and I know we're going to WIN!!!

Time to sayhttp://www.geocities.com/dia_47/bye.gif for now, but I'll be back this evening. Have a great LC day! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/Flowers2.gif

hi nancy
nice to see you have a chance to pop in, hope the baby is doing well and how is jeremy taking to her now that she's been around for a few months:q: congratulations on the baggy jeans, that's such a great feeling when you can start to see and feel the changes. like you i think that not eating at night does help. i have been able to adjust my schedule so that i eat supper at 6pm now and do not have anything after that. actually i do not snack at all anymore just have my three squares a day and water all day and honestly no longer think about snacks. at one time i used to eat pretzels chips popcorn and soda continuously:rolleyes: as my stats attest to.
the sun is shining today and we are at about 20 on the faranheit scale which is very nice as we have had some snow everyday for the past 2 weeks and enough has piled up that i will have to get out tomorrow and do some shovelling so i don't get stuck in my driveway!!
have a good week

Well I think I found a place for me here in the Forum...I'm soon to be 51 and losing as slow as a turtle. :tears: I go to Curves and work out which is great, there's lots of older ladies there.
I have 3 children 2 of which live at home. My daughter, the baby, graduates highschool this spring and my oldest son after living on his own since he was 19 moved back home at 26 to start all over again. My middle child graduated from college last year and is pretty much on his own :agree:
I don't act my age and don't feel my age either (until I look in the mirror at the wrinkles which have begun) and most of my friends are younger than I am.
I too am experiencing menopause and wondered if that's why it's taking me so long to lose the weight. I have increased my exercise so I hope that helps.
Good to be here so we can support each other.

http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/welcome20.gif to the group. If you've read any of the posts, you'll see that I'm a newbie also and I already feel right at home. You didn't mention what stage of Atkins you're in. Do you have the book? If not, I have a great site for Atkins beginners. I've been in Induction since Jan. 2nd of this year and want to stay in this phase for awhile. I've lost 22 pounds so far. I also http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/DRINK1.gif lots of water! I use to go to Curves and I really liked it and it did help, but for now I just don't have the time. As yourself, most of my friends are younger then me too....It's the young at heart thing http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/71.gif I have to admit, the starting of the wrinkles did bother me, soooo for the last 3 1/2 years, (every 4 months) I treat myself to a microbrasion treatment, followed with a facial. It's fantastic and it does help. You poor girl, I can sympathize with you (the menopause thing.) Thank goodness I'm past that now. Geez, we're so lucky to have to deal with this. As to your question about slowing down weight lose, this is what I found, hope it helps. Remember, we're here to support and http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gif you on! We can do it!

What happens to your body during menopause?

Your body starts to store fat around your tummy, instead of on your hips
Why? Because your body is producing less and less oestrogen. You see, oestrogen causes us to store fat around our hips, so when we run short of it, our weight stops going to our hips and goes to our tummy area instead.
Unfortunately, this is not good news. Why not? Because abdominal obesity is a risk factor for diabetes, hypertension, certain cancers, and cardiovascular disease

Difficult Phases

Although many experts maintain menopause does not cause weight gain directly, my experience is that menopause can make weight/fat loss very slow. However, even though these slow-weight-loss-phases.

Importance of Exercise

Exercise is vital for weight control during menopause. Like it or not, our bodies do slow down as we get older so we need to stay active. Exercise increases our metabolism and helps to burn off stored fat. Also, it increases the proportion of muscle to fat in our bodies which is good for our weight as muscles need more calories than fat.

Welcome to all of our new friends. I hope you all enjoy our thread as much as I do. Nancy, good to hear form you. I don't mind telling my grandchildren's names and ages at all. Christopher is 12, Amber is 8, Nicholas is 8, Nolan is 7, Chealsie is 6, Julia is 3, Joshua is 4, Alanna is 4, Gracie is 20 months, Adam is 10 months old. We had a granddaughter Autumn that passed away that would have been 10 this April. Oldest daughter gave birth to a set a beautiful twin boy's , Matthew and Noah , but they were born too early and died after several days. I still count them when I count my grandchildren and I still miss Autumn terribly as she was our first granddaughter and my husband and I spent a great deal of time with her. Being a Grandmother is fantastic ! I have the time to spend with the grandkids that I didn't have to spend with our kids when they were growing up. Our house is full of noise and laughter and I believe it helps keep you young. As for wrinkles I have a few but ever since I started using the Oil of Olay products they have almost dissappeared. I feel much better since I'm exercising so much. I haven't had a hot flash in over a week and I'm sleeping much better. I find if I eat more protein at night I don't get hungry after dinner. Actually the biggest problem I'm having right now is I live in the bathroom from all of the water I'm drinking. My weight loss is really slow but I think it will kick in again if I just stick with the program. Either way I feel so much better eating low carb that i intend to stick with it even if I don't lose anymore weight. It has done nothing but rain for weeks now. I think it's safe to say that the drought in Arizona is over. Yesterday was beautiful but we are suppose to have rain for the next 7 days. CP have a great time in Nashville. I am a huge Country and Western fan. I was raised in Texas so naturally it's my kind of music. I'm looking forward to hearing how your trip goes. Kerri sounds like you have a big family as well. I wish all of our grandkids were 40 minutes away but it's probably a sgood thing their not cause then I'd never get anything done. Ladies I hope everyone has a great week. Time for me to hit the old treadmill.

hi warpraise
welcome to our group, nice to have you here, the more the merrier:) more ideas and support to draw from.
my oldest granddaughter, lives around the corner from me and spends as much time with me as at home, will also be graduating this spring. all the pre graduation activities are in full swing. they have had their portraits taken and are now working on various fund raisers to support the grad. it is a big deal for our family as she is the first on both sides to graduate:thup:. many of us in the family went back to school and completed required courses for employment but she is the only one to go all the way through school and graduate! i am sure your daughter is pretty excited too.
we now have a Curves here in the far north but i have not tried it out. i am one of those that would rather exercise alone except for lane swimming at the pool. good for you getting out and getting in some good exercising.

good morning cp
how are you doing today, i don't usually get here to the forum until after 8am. i start my exercise at 6am and then my granddaughter arrives at just after 7am and has her breakfast and gets ready for school and leaves just before 8 to catch the bus---then the rest of the day is mine, i pour myself a coffee and check out the forum:) and watch 'canada am' which is our version of 'good morning america.'

my sister also lives in northern california, she and her husband live both in fremont and discovery bay and her daughter lives nearby in brentwood. their home in discovery bay is right on the water, a lovely place to be. i took my granddaughter to disneyland/CA & then to sandiego zoo&seaworld last summer then stopped and visited with her for 10days at her discovery bay home and i think it is a beautiful area. we both were born and grew up in vancouver british columbia and she moved to san francisco 35 yrs ago and i moved to the yukon 35 yrs ago. now that we are both retired we get to visit each other a bit more often.

have a good low carb day:D

Good Afternoon,
Grandson Jeremy is sitting here coloring and baby Mariah is napping so I have few minutes to check in before it is bottle time again.

It's been a week now since I got serious about losing and exercising.I have had a good week and have exercised every day and stuck to low carb. The scale is going down and I have 1 pound to go to get back to my lowest.Hope to get below that by Saturday.Saturday mornings are when I weight myself for an official weigh in for the week.

Looks like Mariah is waking since she can always sense when it's bottle time again. She is like clock work wanting a bottle every three hours but she sleeps through the night for her parents which is good.

Got to run.Hope to catch up with everyone this evening.

I was glad I've been working out with this last snowfall. Hubby was out of town working and it was up to me to shovel 6" of snow from our driveway so I could get to work the next day! Usually if I have a tak like this my back hurts or I'm sore the next day and I feel like I'm 80 but this morning I got up feeling great!
Tonight I had to meet my Mom at the hospital. My dad was admitted with pneumonia, but I think my Mom got him there early enough so that this time he won't be there as long. (He has MG so bouts of pneumonia can easily happen)
Well I stood most of the evening in the ER, it was soooo crowded and my back didn't hurt once or my feet! I really am so glad I started exersizing again!
Going to visit Dad later today...it's been a long day, it's 1am here! If you pray please keep my Dad in your prayers  ....thanks!

Good Morning Ladies, Cp I usually log on around 8. Lord Jes, you get started early. I don't get my grandkids until 11 when I have them so I always exercise from 9- 10:30 on those days. On the days I don't have any grandkids I exercise for at least 2 hours and I always try to have it done before noon. I haven't been weighing for several weeks because it was so frustrating for me. I've been keeping my calories to at least 13oo calories a day and I'm exercising at least 5 days a week. My clothes are really baggy but I promised myself to stay away from the scale for at least a month. I started using my Bowflex three times a week again and I can really feel the results. You have been so helpful I can't thank you enough. Nancy, it sounds like you are doing great and keeping busy with the kids. Keep up the good work. I have two of the grandaughters today so I'll be busy as well.Warpraise I don't know how you shovel snow. I would never make it.Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he gets better soon. I'll keep him in my prayers. Be careful driving around in the snow. I hope everyone is having a great low carb week. Got to run for now and get things done so I can get on my Treadmill before the kids get here.

Ohhhh...it's great to see a few come out of the wood work...lol. Sounds like you're all doing well on LC. I finally got on my http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/tread.gif this morning and plan on doing my Denise Austin "fat burning" video before I get ready for work. I really use to enjoy it, because it's a dance step routine and I like dancing. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/69.gif

JES...I'm doing just fine thank you. My morning starts at 6:00am. Getting the twins breakfast, etc, etc and by 7:30am I have them on their way to school. Then it's time to do thinks I need to get done around here before I have to go to work at 11:00am. I live about an hour or so south of your sister. Small world sometimes. I bet your granddaughter had a blast in Disneyland. My son took the twins about 2 1/2 years ago. They had a great time. It's a wonderful memory for all children.

NANCY...WTG on http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/scales22.gif going down and http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/congratualtions.gif on 1 pound to get back to your lowest. Keep up the good work.

WARPRAISE...WOW I'd be covered with snow http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/smileysnow.gif if I had to shovel it! I'm sure glad your not sore and that's probably because of the exercising you've been doing. So sorry to hear about your dad.....I'll say a pray for him.

BRENDA...WoW http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/13.gif 2 hours of exercising? I'd be on the floor exhausted. Good for you, that's fantastic. woohoo on the baggy pants...that's a true sign you've lost inches. Looking forward to hearing the results. It really sounds like it's paying off. You go girl!

Dad is doing much better, thanks for the prayers! He's still in the hospital but Mom got him there just in time before he got bad like he did last time. Went to work this morning until 1pm then to the hospital for a couple of hours then to Curves and home to make dinner.
No Grandkids for me yet, still waiting for a wedding...my kids are 26, 23 and 17. Looking forward to the day but I can wait. :)
Not getting on the scale anymore at home, just at Curves as my scale LIES!!!!! Besides I don't want to get obsessed. I figure if I'm sticking to the plan and working out somethings got to move.

Good Evening Ldies,
I have come down with a full blown cold.Haven't had one in ages.Seems like every time our grandson gets well and returns to preschool he comes down with another cold.It has happened again and now he has passed the cold around to the rest of us.

My day starts at 6 AM since our daughter leaves for work at 8.I get up get my shower and get on the computer for a little bit.Hubby and I leave the house to go to our daughters at 7:30.I feed my granddaugter her first bottle of the day when we get there. My hubby gets our grandson up if it is a preschool day.The other two days we let our grandson sleep in.Since Jeremy goes to preschool on Mon-Wed and Fri we decided to go over to our daughter's the other two mornings to let our grandson sleep in.If we didn't do that our daughter would be getting him up around 7:15 and we know he needs his rest on those days.

I took yesterday off from exercising since I had exercised 7 days in a row.I am disappointed that I came down with this cold since I won't be exercising till I am feeling better and my energy comes back.My eating continues to be under control and with this cold I don't have much of an appetite which is good.

I also do the snow shoveling and enjoy the exercise aspect of it.I started doing all of the snow shoveling last winter and felt good doing it.We haven't had that many measurable snowfalls this winter so I haven't had many opportunities to shovel snow this winter. There is something about seeing the driveway and front sidewalk cleared and say that I did it all by myself. My hubby can do the shoveling too but I have told him that I want to do it for the exercise. We have a double driveway that can hold 6 cars so that is quite a bit of shoveling. We are due for another snowstorm starting over night.I hope that it doesn't amount to much since I really don't feel like doing the shoveling this time.

Warpraise(do you have a name that we can use?) it is nice to hear that your dad is doing much better.Sorry to hear that your hubby won't be home till next week.Hope the snowfall isn't too bad up your way.

CP..Congratulations on getting back on your treadmill. Was it easier once you got going on it.I find that once I start peddling away on my stationary bike it gets easier and easier for me.You mentioned that you go to work at 11.When do you return home from work? Guess I am just wondering if you work full or part time. That's nice that you are there in the morning to see your twins off to school. So you are another one that gets up at 6 too. This morning I was up at 5:30 since I was feeling rather miserable with the start of this cold.Like you,I like getting up at 6 since it gives me a little time on the computer before we have to leave at 7:30.I also have my evenings free but there are a few TV shows that I enjoy watching plus I need to get my exercise done too.I am hoping that with this cold I will be able to get down below my lowest of 204.That means I would love to lose 2 pounds with this cold.We will see.

Brenda...That's great that you don't get your grandchildren till around 11.I always tell my hubby that the worse thing about taking care of our grandchildren is having to get up at 6.Our daughter is taking tomorrow off since she was on call Saturday and had to work. She has also come down with a cold.I am hoping that our grandchildren will sleep in some so she can get some added rest.I know that I am looking forward to sleeping a little later in the morning.Glad we won't have to get out and drive in the snow in the morning.Shoveling snow isn't all that hard.I used to think that I couldn't do it but once I started doing it last winter I really enjoyed it.Sure is a good workout.

I am going to go and rest some.Have a nice evening everyone.

Nancy sorry about the cold. I hope you get to feeling better. My grandkids always share their germs with me too. Chealsie is home form school today with a bad cough. It's done nothing but rain off and on for weeks here. In all of the years we have lived here I don't remember ever having this much rain at one time. The dessert is beautiful when it's in bloom but everyone is really going to suffer with allergeries this summer. CP after you are on the treadmill for awhile you will notice that it gets easier. I've been able to up my speed this week along with the lenght of time I walk. I walk on my treadmill ay least 5 times a week and use my Bowflex three times a week. On the days I don't use the Bowflex I walk on my treadmill for 2 hours. I'm trying to find a Curves near my house so I can join. It looks like it would be alot of fun. When summer comes I'll be able to get alot more exercise because we live in the pool. Warpraise I'm glad your Dad is doing better. It seems that the older we get the roles reverse and we become the parents and our parents are more like our children at times. Jes, how are you doing this week ? I hope everything is still going good for you. I guess I better get busy and get some work done.

Hi Everyone,
You can refer to me as Pam...Thanks for all the well wishes for my Dad, he continues to improve and hopefully may come home this weekend.
Well we got about 6" of snow last night. I drive 35 minutes to work and just decided if I go in today it will be later. I have flexibility at my job to do that or I can opt to work at home on my computer. I was asked to attend a meeting with my boss tonight so I may just do that...the roads should be clear by then.
I can't wait for spring, I saw a robin the other day so it can't be too far off. Isn't March 21st the first day of spring anyways?

Seems like my appetite has decreased even more...do any of you have the same thing happen? I have been back on since Jan 3rd and seems like my quantity of food has gotten smaller. Maybe it's the exercise. I have to get out to do that today. I skipped yesterday because I was tired from running to the hospital and maybe a little stress. :daze:
Well I hope everyone has a great day today! See you soon!

Good Morning ladies http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sungrin.gif

http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/tgif.gif Woohoo...I have 3 days off! It's been awhile since I've had this many days off in a row and boy am I going to take advantage of it. Just finished the treadmill, (1/2 hr.) think it best I start out slow. I also did 20 mins of "fat burning" dancing, so I think I'm set for the day. Going to try and do this atleast 3 times a week.

NANCY...Hope you're getting over your cold. I had I work Mon. thru Wed. 11:30 to 5:30. Thurs. & Sun. 5:00 to closing. Don't know if I ever mentioned...I babysit adults, I'm a bartender. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/71.gif Yes, it's really nice that I can be here to see them off to school and get home early enough to get dinner going. On the nights I go in at 5, hubby does the honors of dinner. The boys love it, because he takes them out to eat.

BRENDA...You walk on your treadmill 2 hours straight??? OMGosh...I don't think I could do that. I find 1/2 hour alot http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hysterical.gif You'll really enjoy Curves. I belonged to one last year and it does work.

PAM...Glad to hear your dad is getting better. And yep on the appetite. I find at times I really have to remind myself to eat. I can't wait til spring either, as I love working in my yard.

Well, I'm off to start my day. Hope you all have a wonderful LC Day! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/6.gif

Cp I hope you enjoy your three days off. I retired 2 years ago because I was having trouble with my hips. It took over a year before my doctor sent me to a pyshical therepist. It took him two minutes to figure out that my left hip had rotated out of the socket and had been rubbing bone on bone for months. The muscle that holds your hip bone in place was stretched out as a result so I have to do exercises everyday and be careful how I do everyday things such as vaccum or even pick up something. It took me over a year walking on my treadmill a few minutes at a time working my way up to where I am now. I still hurt like heck but if I don't exercise everyday I get to where I can't walk . The muscle may never heal completely but I've come a long way. The more weight I lose the easier it will be also. When I was working I worked 16 hour days and sometimes worked for weeks straight without a day off so I know how great it is to get some down time. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Curves. I'm really looking forward to going. Nancy I hope your cold is better today. Well, got to go pick up my granddaughter from school. I hope everyone has a really great weekend.

Hi Ladies,

Sorry I've been absent for sooo long but things just haven't been going all that well lately. I'm looking for some advice and a good kick -- both of which I really need.

First the kick!! I'm having a terrible time with LCing for some reason (could be the nerves). During vacation I showed a loss of 4.5 pounds -- get back in mode in Alabama and within 5 days those pounds were back. Eating wasn't all that different but they were back anyway. Haven't been doing well on the treadmill either -- no motivation or just lazy again. Doesn't seem possible but that is the easiest part of typing this -- here comes my hard part.

I think I'm about ready to pack it up and stay at home with hubby and give up the watching the kiddos -- love them dearly but I think I'm going to go nuts. Example of problem = just spent 1 hour listening to DD argue with the 3 year old about combing her hair. Trip was planned to go to WMart and then started the arguing. DD would say if you don't get your hair combed you can't go -- screaming and crying -- then she'd (DD) try bribing the 3 year old then threatening with not going -- more crying -- it finally got down to we'll comb your hair at WMart -- then 3 year old wanted it combed now. Guess what? Basically the 3 year old won the battle and they left in slight tears as she wanted to be carried and was told no --- she got carried anyway. I decided I'd listened to it long enough and really wanted to say - if you tell her it's combing her hair or not going then stick to it!!!!!! I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS!!
The above was just an example of the crazy things that go on. The internet doesn't have enough space for all of it and my fingers won't type for that long.

When I first started watching the kids (2+ years ago) I told myself I wouldn't interfer with their upbringing as I've made my own mistakes along the way and the generations are so different but it really is hard when you live with it day in and day out.

DH will start drawing SS this fall and will quit his parttime job at the marina - so he'll be completely alone with nothing to do with his time. Granted I could strangle him sometimes but I think it's about time I start spending more time at home. I would still help out when necessary but this living here and his living there is a bummer sometimes. There are times when I'd like to choke him but at least if I feel like it I can tell him --- here I bite my tongue and choke it all back in. I think that might be part of the problem. Hmmm does stress contain carbs -- I wonder?

Thanks for letting me vent as if I vent to DH he'll hollar COME HOME and if I vent to DD it would just cause an arguement. I hate to leave them in the lurch but something has to give one way or the other. DH did talk about buying aplace down here but this place is very $$$$$. I know he wants to stay near sons (hunting and fishing buddies) and I do miss the others GKs. DD & SIL have noone down here except me and I know it will be a hardship for them but I know something's gotta give.

Any advice on any of my venting is appreciated.

I haven't read much into the back pages so HELLO to any new faces and glad you're here. I'm not usually whinny but today is a very low day for me.

Gotta head out to do some shopping -WM- I'll do this by myself this time -- can't take the DD or the DK's right now.

OKAY -- enough -- I'm done for now.

Hi Deneen,

I'm new to this board and hope you don't mind if I post my opinion.

I'm not sure on the LC part...BUT as for your other problem I can voice my opinion. You sound miserable and nothing is worth, being stress out, losing your sanity or being unhappy. Trying to help someone out, at your expense (meaning your health) is not worth it. At our age, it should be simple and living to the fullest. Your quote...."Granted I could strangle him sometimes but I think it's about time I start spending more time at home. I would still help out when necessary but this living here and his living there is a bummer sometimes. There are times when I'd like to choke him but at least if I feel like it I can tell him --- here I bite my tongue and choke it all back in." I think you've said it all and you need to follow your heart. Personally, I can't even imagine living away from my hubby, but that's me. I don't know the whole story, but from what you've said....I can see one unhappy lady. My heart goes out to you. Good luck with your choice. Hope you keep us posted.

good morning deneen

i am sorry to hear you are having such a struggle, since you ask, personally i feel you should take this time of your life and start looking after yourself and your husband. be careful when you say you'll be available to help out when necessary because under those conditions it will always be necessary. it sounds to me like it is time for your DD & SIL to make make other childcare arrangements and for you and your husband to visit them as grandparents or if possible have the children come and visit you
it is hard to tell another person what to do in a particular situation especially when it comes to family but i think it sounds like you need to consider exactly how all of this is affecting your health and where ever did you find that husband of yours that he would live with these arrangements for 2yrs now!!

whatever you decide i wish you the best

Deneen I was wondering where you were. I can't agree with Jes or CP more. I know you want to help but you sound just like me. I think it's about time your daughter and son-in-law started taking care of themselves. You should be home taking care of you and your husband . I'm alot like you when it comes to helping my kids so every now and then I have to take a set back and take a good look at the situation. I decided last year that I was doing more to raise their families then they were so I told my DIL if she wanted help with the girl's that I was only available two days a week. My son watches them on his days off so she can get her hours in at work. When I retired two years ago several of our children assumed since I was home that they could just dump their responsibilities on me where the kids were concerned. I allowed it to happen until it got to the point that I was exhausted and unhappy. I finally put my foot down and told them all that I had raised my children without the help of my Mother or anyone else and that it was about time they did the same. Deneen have you noticed that you don't enjoy your Grandchildren anymore ? It's hard to enjoy being a Grandma when you are playing the part of Mother. Your daughter and son-on-law are taking advantage of you just like my kids did me. Is it harder for my kids ? Yes. Did they find a way to solve their babysitting problem ? Yes. One of my biggest problems is we raised our kids different then these parents do today. I never argued with our kids about what they were going to wear or if they were going to comb their hair and I don't argue with my grandkids either. You see the problem isn't the children it's the parents. Our grandchildren are totally different when we have them then they are when their parents are there. It's like they are different children. My son asked me one day why the kids didn't give me a hard time when I told them to do something. I told him because they know that there will be consequences if they don't do what they are told. I enjoy my grandchildren now because I don't see them all of time. Stop raising your grandchildren and start living your life for you. We paid our dues. I would like to know where you found your husband. I could straggle mine at times too but I'm sure he gets lonely with you gone all of the time. Go home Deneen. Join a gym, get your hair done, spend the day reading a good book. Hell, put some of that energy into your husband and you instead of your kids. You might discover the things in your husband that made you fall in love with him in the first place. I started making a romatic candle light dinner at least one of month for my husband and you wouldn't believe the results. I guess we all want to feel needed but girl there are better ways of doing it. I don't mean to preach but I've been where you are and I know how your feeling right now. You sound like you have already made up your mind to go home. You just needed someone to tell you that it was the right decision. The biggest problem I had to overcome was I felt guilty for not wanting to take care of the kids. I don't anymore. I know I'm healthier and happier as a person and I actaully enjoy my grandkids now. I know you will make the right decision for you and no matter what we are all here for you.

Hi Everyone,
Wanted to stop by and let y'all know that I hadn't forgotten you.My cold has gotten worse but I know it will be a matter of days before it is gone.I do feel a little better today than I did yesterday.I've gotten a lot of needed rest today.

Have any of you had much experience with fever blisters and cold sores? I was coming down with one yesterday and today it is full blown with a swollen lip.Went to the store before it got too busy since I didn't look the greatest.I bought ABREVA.That sure is some expensive over the counter treatment but it does seem to be healing the fever blisters and some of the swelling has gone down.

My eating and exercising hasn't been too good since getting this cold.I haven't wanted to eat right and have no energy for exercising.I will get back to it once this cold has run its course.

We are under a Winter Storm Warning to last till early Tuesday.Looks like this is going to be the big one for us this winter.Seems like it always happens around March.

Hope all of you are staying well.I will send some comments after I send this.I have really enjoyed how all of us are getting to know each other.

I know how much we all enjoy salads.Have any of you noticed the price of cucumbers and green peppers? That's what I like in my salads and they sure have gone up in price. What all do y'all put in your salads?

Pam...Did your dad come home from the hospital over the weekend? Hope he continues to do well. How are you doing?

CP...hope you enjoyed your 3 days off. That's nice that your hubby has those nights with your boys when you are working.I am sure that the three of them enjoy going out to eat together.Your are doing great being on the treadmill for 1/2 hour.

Deneen...I have really missed you.You have done so well low carbing so please don't mess up now.I also wonder how your hubby has done these 2 plus years having you away from him so much. Now that he will be getting SS it seems to be the right time for you to go home and let your daughter and son in law figure out something for day care.It must be so stressfull to be a witness to your daughter and her interactions with your grandchildren and not say anything but bite your tongue.I know that it would be hard for me.Please continue to stop by and let us know how you are doing.I want you to do what you know is best for you and your hubby.Your husband and your marriage should come before your daughter, son in law and grandchildren.

Hi Jes, sounds like you've been really busy. Your doing great with the weight loss. I plan on weighing tomorrow. My clothes are really loose and I've been exercising 1 1/2 to 2 hours every morning. I'm using my Bowflex three times a week and I'm watching my carbs . Everything has been going great for the last several weeks. I feel great and I have a great deal more energy. I've been able to increase my speed on the treadmill from 3 to 3.3 and I've worked up to four and a half miles a day. On the days I don't work out with the Bowflex I walk five miles on the treadmill. I'm trying to stay focused and so far so good. The rain finally stopped and the last few days have been really beautiful. It's suppose to be in the upper 70's all week and by the weekend it's suppose to get up to 80. I can hardly wait. I hope everyone has a great week.

Jes, I weighed this morning for the first time in two weeks. I've lost five pounds. I decided to take my meausrements as well since it is the first of the month and I've lost a total of 4 inches. I know it doesn't sound like much but I'm thrilled. My new goal is 10 pounds this month. I have to confess it's getting easier and easier to stay focused. The family all went out to eat Mexican food last weekend and I stayed right on track with bacon wrapped shrimp and grilled veggies. I have the day to myself so I plan on having a good workout session with my Bowflexand and treadmill. Hope everyone has a great day.

hi nancy
how are doing with that cold, hope you are feeling a lot better.
i don't even want to talk about the price of produce:cry: the prices are high here at the best of times and whenever there are conditions such as storms or floods in california that cause the producers to have to put their prices up our prices just sky rocket here. today when i shopped for my salad stuff green peppers were $3.80lb, red peepers were $4.90 lb, $2.98 for a bunch of celery, $2 something for lettuce depending on the type $2.78 for a cucumber and those are the main things i usually put in my salad and i have salad everyday. with all the rain they are still having in california i expect these price won't go down for some time. i just try to grin and bear it as i know i need this food for my health and well being and considering what i spent in the past on junk food and restaurant food there is no comparison:D
hope the storm passed you by, take care

Thanks for the encouragement Jes. Good Lord, prices of produce are horrible there. I thought red peppers were high here but their not half of what you are paying and lettuce is 99 cents a head. I guess we get use to the weather here being warm all of the time since we are in the dessert so when it gets a little cool we all think we're dying. It has been really beautiful for the last few days and it's suppose to get up in the 80's by the end of the week. I have work men coming today to put cabinets in the garage for my husband. Next week they are going to refinish the garage floor to look like stone for him. He has always wanted to fix the garage so I decided since our anniversary is on the 16th that I would get it done for him as his anniversary gift. We've been married for 27 years and he is always doing things for everyone but himself so I thought it would be nice if someone did something for him for a change. Got to run for now. Have a great day.

i have felt the crunch of the high prices for produce here too in az. the peppers and lettuce is outrageous. it's coming down a bit--i saw peppers 2 for a $1 but before were about $2 to $3 or more each!! holy cow. so i switched from salads to just cooking frozen vegetables for a while. and once you pay that much for produce you feel obligated to eat them right away and i get burned out..so the cooked veggies was a nice switch. also it was cheaper to buy a small side salad at the fast food rest. than trying to buy and make myself. so i think the high prices are over. and back to my salads..

I do alot of my produce shopping at Fry's. They have the best produce and I even bought fresh aspargus for 99 cents a pound last week. It was fantastic. I hope prices come down where you are soon . If your like me I eat alot of salads so it's great when it doesn't cost you a fortune. Have a great week.

Hi Everyone,
I am still hanging in there with this cold. Not exercising yet.Need what energy I manage to have to keep up with my two grandchildren.

I should have checked before I started writing.I'm not sure when I last wrote. My post is on the previous page so I would lose what I have already written if I go back and check.I have learned that the hard way.

We have been having some cold and snowy weather the last few days.In three days we have had just about 1 1/2 feet of snow.It has finally come to and end.Schools have been closed all week.

Looks like produce is finally coming down here too.I bought a green pepper on Sunday before the snow hit.I know I paid less than $1 for it.Wanted to stock up before the snow hit our area.

I haven't had the energy to do much shoveling of this snow. The driveway looked pretty bad this morning. My hubby had already shoveled it the other day.It needed to be done again.Neither of us did it but the sun came out this afternoon and took care of it.So glad to see the driveway cleared off like that.

Next time I check in I hope to say that this cold is history.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Good Morning,
Just wanted to share how motivated I feel this morning.I don't know about y'all but there are days when I exercise and wonder when I will see some concrete results.

This morning I am seeing some concrete results.About 2 weeks ago I bought a new pair of slacks without trying them on.I hadn't done that in years and years.Being over weight I never knew what size would fit so I always went and tried everything on.

My new slacks are a size 16 and they fit looser than I thought they would. It has been two months since I got back to exercising and eating correctly and I can see that it is working well.I've been wearing size 16 for awhile but you never know from manufacturer to manufacturer if something is going to fit or not.It was so nice to see that these size 16 slacks are loose on me instead of tight.I really thought that they would be tight to give me inspiration to have them fit loose.

Since I have had this cold I haven't exercised but I can tell that the increase in exercise the week before is really paying off.

Now I can't wait to have this cold come to an end and get back to exercising 45 minutes a day.

Hope the rest of you are seeing results.Do you have any experiences to share with us about your exercising and see results?

Hi Nancy, Good to hear from you. Sorry the cold is still around but it sounds like your feeling a little better today. I bought several new pair of slacks and blouses at Christmas. I havn't wore any of them in sometime. We went out for dinner last weekend and I couldn't wear one pair of the slacks. They were all too big. I'm back into my size 14 and their loose. I 've only lost 5 pounds in the last couple of weeks but I've lost 4 inches and I think that helps just as much. I'm still exercising at least five times a week on my treadmill. I started using my Bowflex several weeks again whick I think is the reason for the loss in inches. I'm not really hungry anymore amd I'm really sticting to 20 carbs or less a day. I still have at least 45 pounds to lose but I feel so obtimistic . I really feel like I'm going to do this for the first time in a long time. I'm up to 5 miles a day on my treadmill. I've discovered that if I start at 3 for the first mile and move up to 3.1 for the next mile and then 3.2 for the next mile and then decrease every mile after that that I can go alot longer. Yesterday my legs felt really heavy for some reason but I still walked 4 miles. I can hardly wait until it gets hot enough here for the pool. I live in the pool and it is really good exercise. I have the whole day to myself so after I exercise I think I'm going to curl up with a good book. I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning ladies Good morning ladies http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sungrin.gif

My 3 days off was great, but I did fall off the LC wagon one day last week and when I weighed myself, it showed I gained 3 pounds. I hit the Induction hard the next day and now I'm back to where I was. Unbelievable how fast you can put the pounds back on. My girlfriend and I joined a line dancing class, so we'll be doing that every Wed. night for 2 hrs. We went for the first time last night and it was great. We really burned some calories. Plus we're going to start doing a dance video 3 times a week. It's always alot more fun, when you have someone to do it with.

BRENDA....Gosh, sounds like you've been through alot with your hip. I give you alot of credit, dealing with the pain when exercising has to be rough. WTG on the pounds & inches gone. That's terrific, keep up the good work. Go, go, go on the 10 pounds this month.http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gifhttp://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gifhttp://www.geocities.com/dia_47/cheering.gif You can do it! NANCY.... Yesssss http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/highfive.gif on the loose pants. It's so exciting to try something on and it's baggy. I experienced the same thing. I tried on a pair of pants (that use to fit) yesterday, before I couldn't even get them past my hips and I got them on. They are still a bit tight in the waist though. I'm still doing 1/2 hour on the treadmill everyday. I just can't seem to do it much more then that. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hairpull.gifI get bored....any suggestions??? Sorry to hear you still have your cold.

JES...OMGosh, the prices of veggies in Canada are outrageous. Hopefully the prices will drop soon. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/congratualtions.gif on the 2 pounds lost. You're doing great.

PAM....I haven't seen a recent post from you. Hope your dad is doing well.

Hope you all have a fantastic LC Day! http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/flowerhug1.gif

Hey Lowcarbr, I live maybe two minutes from the new stadium. It's really nice. Spring training started yesterday. Hubby bought tickets to one of the games . We are both really looking forward to going. Surprise is in the northwest valley. Your about an hour from us. Do you know where Luke Air Force bae is ? We're about 15 minutes from there. Everyone is saying that Surprise is the next Scottsdale. Everywhere you look something is being built. The price of buying a house has gone crazy here. We moved here from Peoria, Arizona 7 years ago to get away from everything. There was nothing here. Hell, now we have not only the new stadium but every kind of resturant you can think of is either here are being built. They are building hotels and a shopping mall right up the street from the house. Our house has more than doubled in price since we built it. We really love living here but something has got to be done about the traffic pretty quick.

Pam I'm glad to hear that your Dad is home from the hospital. Bet your glad your hubby is coming home. Girl be careful shoveling that snow. Your lucky you didn't break a hip. I hope things slow down for you soon.

CP it sounds like you and your friend are having alot of fun with the line dancing. Glad you enjoyed your three days off. I know what you mean about putting the weight back on fast. It seems like over night you can gained 3 to 5 lbs. if your not careful. I know it's mostly water retention but it is still depressing to work so hard and see the scales move up instead of down overnight. I walked 5 miles today on my treadmill. I walked at the speed of 3 so I could go longer. My hip seems to be getting stronger everyday. Congrats on getting into the pants. It always makes you feel good when you can see the results of all of your hard work.

Nancy I hope the cold is better today. How are the kids ? Keep up the hard work and before you know it those 16 pants will be falling off of you. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Deneen I hope things are going better for you and the family. My daughters are both having a terrible time with their marriages. I finally had enough last week and chewed the girl's as well as their husbands out. Lord, sometimes I think they are all crazy. The youngest daughter is getting a divorce . She should have never married this man. He jerked her around last Sunday and she has bruises all over her arms. He is 6'2 and has 100 lbs on her easily. The family tried to talk her out of marrying him two years ago but nothing we said could change her mind. My oldest daughter and her husband are both going through a phase where they think of no one but themselves. I stayed out of things until it got to the point that the kids were the ones suffering for their stupidity. I finally got my belly full Monday and told them both to grow up. Now their mad at me but at least they aren't fighting with each other anymore. Sometimes I wonder if I taught these kids anything. Did you go home or are you still at your daughter's ? Either way I hope things have calmed down for you. I walked 5 miles this morning on my treadmill. It seems to help releive the stress from dealing with my crazy family. Hope you have a great weekend.
Lookimg forward to hearing from you when you get the chance.

Hi Everyone,
I am finally seeing a weight loss.I am down 1.5 pounds. The funny thing is that I am not eating much since with this cold I really can't taste food all that well.I've been drinking lots of hot green tea sweetened with Splenda.I am now down 6.5 pounds of the 20 I want to lose by May 9th.That's a little over 2 months away.Sure hope I can continue to lose.I am almost to the 200 pound mark.Really want to get into onderland soon. :)

Our son in law had the day off so I that meant that I could sleep in some this morning. That sure was nice.Since our grandson still has a cold he didn't have preschool today.Yesterday we took our 4 month old granddaughter for her 4 month checkup and shots. She is doing great and right on track even though she was born a month early. She remains tiny since she now weighs 10 pounds 14 ounces but that is good since she came into the world weighing only 4 pounds 6.7 ounces.

Brenda....so sorry to hear that your daughters are having a hard time with their marriages.Even when our children are grown and married we still have so many concerns about them.Seems like the concerns get even bigger when there are grandchildren involved too.

Deneen.....I continue to think of you and your situation. Please check in and let us know how you are doing.

CP...the line dancing sounds like a lot of fun and great exercise.Like you I can gain 3 pounds in no time.

Well I'm not sore at all from falling, although I took off an extra day from exercising to recupe but was back this morning. Hubby and I went out for dinner at Cracker Barrel to celebrate his return home. I'm so glad they have a LC menu. I had the steak salad wiith ranch dressing and it wasn't so bad. :yum:

I am going away next weekend with a girlfriend and I am thinking of going on a meat/egg fast for a couple of days before I go. I'm planning on staying on LC while I am away but as we are staying at a friends house I will see what happens. If we go out to dinner it shouldn't be too hard.

Hubby said I looked like I lost a few inches! He's been encouraging me to exercise for a while so now that I'm doing it he's thrilled. The lbs aren't coming off too fast but the bodyfat is disappearing so something's got to give soon!

Oh! I got some Da Vinchi syrup this week as a treat! Peppermint Paddy (for coffee) and Creme de menthe to go over LC vanilla ice cream rolled in unsweetened coconut. I can't wait!!

I had LC chocolate ice cream last week and melted 1 tbs. of all natural peanut butter and poured it over the ice cream, just like peanut butter chocolate ice cream my hubby loves.

Slow as a turtle...Pam

Jes, sounds like your still rolling right along . Congrats on the weight lose. I'm still exercising. I walked 6 miles on Saturday. I lowered the speed I walk abit so I could walk longer. I ate more carbs than I should have on Friday but I think I worked them off this weekend. I'm staying at 20 carbs or less a day and I'm watching my protions. The weight is coming off slowly but at least it's coming off. I haven't had a chance to join Curves yet but I'm going to join as soon as I can. I'm sewing for several of the granddaughters this week. They all like the baggy PJ pants with all of the wild designs on them. I can make three pair for the price of one store bought so we went to WalMart and picked out the material and pattern last Friday. It only takes about an our to make a pair and the girl's were thrilled . Got a busy week ahead. We are having the garage floor refinished so it looks like crushed rock. The cabinets for my husband were put in last week and they turned out really nice. I'm planning on moving the treadmill and Bowflex to the garage once it's done . I hope everyone has a great week. Pam I hope things have calmed down for you with your Dad home from the hospital and your hubby home. My husband loves Cracker Barrel. I love their low carb menu too. My husband says he can tell I've lost weight but I still have to work hard to stay focused. When I was younger I would have already lost all the weight I wanted to. I never dreamed it would be so hard to lose once I got older. Got to run for now and get on my treadmill. Have a good day.

I cleaned all day so I took the day off from the treadmill. Got everything done around the house so tomorrow after I exercise I'm going to spend the daying sewing for the granddaughters. It's so much cheaper and the girl's love to pick out material for their clothes. It's really beautiful here again today. This is my favorite time of year. Pam I hope your Dad is growing stronger everyday. Be careful how much chocolate ice cream you eat it will make you stall in a hurry. When I was younger I never ate sweets or really liked them but lately I've been craving chocolate. I've done really good so far about staying away from chocolate as well as other sweets . My sister weighs a hundred pounds and eats anything and everything. I just have to look at something and the fat goes straight to my hips. Guess I better go and get dinner started. Hope everyone had a good day.

Hi Everyone

It is snowing here again. We were only suppose to get a dusting but I measured 3 inches awhile ago. It's nothing like a week ago though. We finally got rid of the 1 1/2 feet of snow from last week and here it came again.

I still have a touch of my cold. Can't taste anything which is probably good since that makes me not want to eat much.I got back to exercising yesterday.Rode my stationary bike and worked out with my weights.Today I rode my stationary bike again.I don't have the energy to get back to the Sweatin To The Oldies workout yet.

I am down 10 pounds since January 1st.I am happy about that but wish it could have been more by now.I have been sidelined by this cold.Once I am back 100% I will feel more like upping my exercise and eating correctly.

Jes...you are doing great.Have you lost a lot of inches along with all of the weight you have lost since the beginning of the year?

Brenda....My daughters and son in laws all love those baggy pajama pants. That's so nice that you can make them much cheaper for them. You were mentioning wanting some chocolate.Have you ever tried any of the sugar free chocolates? Russell Stover makes some really good sugar free chocolates.I love the sugar free peppermint patties.I keep them in the freezer and might eat one every few days. It's not something that I binge on.I keep them for special treats. They don't hinder my weight loss as long as I keep it to one every couple of days.

Good morning ladies,

It's another http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/sunny.gif day here in California and I'm loving it. I've sure missed being here. We've had company from out of state. Dined out a few nights and stayed on track....lost 2 pounds. Woohoo. The scale is finally moving again! I'm proud to say I'm down http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/2num.gifhttp://www.geocities.com/dia_47/7num.gif lbs as of today.

To be honest here....I've walked on my treadmill maybe 4 times. BUT I did start my dancing "fat burning" video yesterday. I'm challenging myself to do this 3 times a week. I get plenty of walking in at work. Now that the weather is nice, I'll be walking to and from work.

My day starts at 6:00am...Breakfast by 7:30am. Lunch around 12pm. I try and eat my dinner around 4:00pm. I drink water up until 6:00pm. If I get hungry, I have a light snack. At least 1 day a week, I have a salad and Atkins Shake for dinner. I'm still under 20 carbs and will stay there until I reach my goal. This may not work for others, but it does for me. My grandparents always had dinner around 4:00pm and they were healthy and thin! If you don't mind me asking.....what is your eating Schedule?

NANCY...Sorry to hear you still have a touch of the cold. It sure can linger on sometimes. I've read your post and can see how determined you are...you will do this. 10 pounds, is 10 pounds gone. http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/03.gif We're here cheering you on! Hope your cold will be completely gone soon. It's horrid when it lingers on.

BRENDA...Sorry to hear about your family problems with your daughters. Believe me...I can relate. I've had my share of problems with my daughter and we're now raising her twin boys and I wouldn't have it any other way. I struggle with my feelings towards my daughter. With her, it's always been about herself...never thinking what it has done to these boys. For the last 5 years, we've dealt with her addiction to drugs. Today she has an appointment to enter a Rehab House. She will be there for 3 months. Hopefully your girls will work things out. As parents whatever goes on with our children will effect us one way or the other. I've asked myself many times, "how much more can I take?" I'm not a real religous person, but I do believe in God and I know he doesn't give us more then we can handle. Keep your chin up and try not to worry. Sorry, didn't mean to rattle on. Anyways....Isn't it amazing how some will cheat (just alittle) and gain, then others eat everything in site and gain nothing. Geez, so unfair. Sounds like you've been busy sewing up a storm girl. I love to sew on cold rainy days. I haven't had my sewing machine out at all this year, to many things going on.

JES...WTG on your progress....http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/wow.gif you got it going on. Keep up the good work.

DENEEN... Hope all is well with you and you'll be on the board soon.

Time for me to get my hiney in gear! You all have a great LC Day http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/Flowers2.gif

I can't wait to say....NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS.

hi brenda
did you get the garage floor done yet--sounds like it's going to be nice in there and a good place to exercise. good for you for keeping your carbs and portions where you want them to be be and getting your exercise in too. you are right about walmart having good prices for material. my daughter just bought a many yards of cotton from which i am starting to make the table runners for her wedding reception. the tables will have white tablecloths then she wants a black runner for the middle with a pink runner on top of that with beaded cream lace on the edges. we figured 20 tables, 40 runners then last night my daughter got a call fron her fiance's mother announcing she is inviting 200 more of the family's relatives---my gawd can you believe it, my daughter had figured approx 100 so that's what has been planned for up to this point now this!! so it doesn't take much to cut and sew the runners but it looks like i'll be at it longer than i expected:rolleyes:
hi nancy
oh migosh more snow, ours here is starting to melt so now it means water everywhere since the snow has been piled everywhere throughout the winter but hopefully in a few weeks we'll start to see the ground. congratulations on your 10 lb loss since new years, you are doing well with having to deal with your lingering cold and all. yes, i have been losing inches as well as pounds--i keep track of inches in mybodycomp and i did the comparison this morning. i measure from the neck to the ankle and since jan 1 i have lost a total of 8.75 inches. i am not sure how other people count inches lost but i just measure the points outlined in this program, add up the the lost inches to get the total. i have now lost 35 pounds and 25 inches since i restarted my plan last august. i am still working on my 35 wk challenge until the wedding, having just completed week 9. to be honest eventhough i've lost pounds and inches i have yet to change sizes in my clothes and i guess that's because most things have elastic waists on pants and stretch type tops but i must admit i am starting to feel more comfortable in them and now i'm waiting for spring and hopefully some of the smaller sized clothes that are packed in a box (i still have sizes from one end of the scale to the other, smaller not bigger:D) i have a great pair of jeans with a zipper that i use as my pant-o-meter and i'm getting there, maybe soon.

have a good week everyone

hi cp, nice to see you back.

congratulations on the 2lb loss especially while you are entertaining company and eating out, it can be difficult. it sounds like you are doing well with your exercise plan as well, good for you.
my eating schedule varies very little. i live alone and do not have to take anyone else's schedule or food preference into account except that my granddaughter comes to my house for breakfast weekday mornings. she is also a low carber so our breakfasts are the same.
6am-- exercise
7:15 am--breakfast
8:15 am--2nd cup coffee
12:30 pm--lunch
5:30 pm--supper
very seldom snack, sometimes a few almonds or walnuts
water, water, water, all day long
weekends are basically the same except i don't exercise ~ 6am and usually have a 3rd cup of coffee around 10am.
i usually cook up or make enough to last a couple of days, it doesn't bother me to eat the same thing a few days in a row. it's not very exciting but it works for me. once i got it wrapped around my brain that i should "eat to live and not live to eat" it became much easier.

Good Morning,
The last few days haven't been all that good for me.I am up a few pounds but haven't been over eating.Looks like I am eating the wrong things so this is water weight gain.

I am a little frustrated to say the least. My hubby is a diabetic and should be watching what he eats but he doesn't.Now I seem to be falling into his trap.He keeps showing me recipes for casseroles that contain rice and pasta.I don't eat rice and pasta but that is what he wants. He keeps telling me that he doesn't care for just the meats and vegetables that I seem to eat ands fix.I have lost my weight so far by eating this way.

Now he wants casseroles. That is hard for me since there are only the two of us here. What would y'all do? He really doesn't need all of the rice and pasta casseroles since he is diabetic. All of this is so frustrating. It seems like he doesn't care that I am trying to lose weight or that he needs to eat better too.

That's enough of my confusion. How would y'all handle this?If it was just me here I would have a much easier time of it with my food choices. Now that he keeps wanting casseroles etc it makes it harder for me to stay on plan.He also says that he doesn't want me to make the casseroles just for him.So far I haven't caved in and made what he wants but he keeps bringing it up.Help!!

Nancy my husband doesn't need to lose weight but he trys really hard to support me in my efforts. I know he loves rice and pasta so a couple of times a week I make him a small amout of Dreamsfield pasta. I'm going to take several of my old casserole recipes and divide them in portions for him and freeze them so when he wants something different I can take one out of the freezer. My girlfriend spends one day a week making different dishes like lasagne and freezes them for her husband. You can usually find rice dishes at the grocery store that are easy and fast to fix. You can always use the left overs later in the week for your husband. I know how frustrating it . I'm still holding where I was two weeks ago but I'm still going to hang in there. I'm going this week and join the Curves up the street from my house. I had a stomach bug several days last week so I didnt get much exercise in. Yesterday my husband and I went hiking on the trails in the White Moutains by our house. We hiked one mile up to a beautiful waterfall and back. It was alot more work than just walking on the treadmill but I really enjoyed myself. I almost forgot. Does your husband eat brown rice ? It's better for him than the white and the dreamfields shouldn't be as bad for his sugar as regular pasta. Does he like beans and rice ? You can make several meals out of a pot of beans for him. I'm like you. If it were just me I'd eat salads, meat, and vegetables all the time. My big problem is I'm not a breakfast person and I get tired of eggs, bacon, or meat roll ups. I'll let you know how it goes at Curves.

Jes your doing great. Keep up the good work. Last week wasn't very productive for me since I was sick for several days but I'm going to get back on schedule this week.

CP I hope everything goes well for your daughter. Two of our boy's went threw several years of drinking and doing drugs. I thank God everyday that they got their act together. Our oldest boy almost drank himself to death after his little girl died. By the time he decided to get help it was almost too late. He is doing really great today and doesn't drink at all. It took months of rehab and hard work but he knows he's an alcoholic and can never drink again. He has been sober for several years and we are really proud of him. Our other son is doing really good too. He met a really great girl and she turned him around. I believe with all of my heart that my son would be dead right now if it wasn't for my DIL and their two beautiful girls. My son went from the streets and drugs to being a Chef and working to help take care of handicapped and mentally ill people . He finds his work very rewarding. He works for a place called Toby House that is state sponsered. They help people get on their feet and gradually help them rejoin society. I'll put your daughter on our pray list. Don't give up on her. If my boy's can get their act together so can your daughter.

Deneen I hope things a re well with you. Keep in touch when you can. I guess I better go for now and get my work done so I can hit the treadmill. I hope everyone has a great lc week.

Jes I forgot to tell you that the garage is finally done. It turned out really great. We can walk on it already but we can't pack the car in the garage until this thursday so the floor will be good and dry. We're going to paint the inside of the garage next and then I'm going to move all of the exercise equipment out there . I can hardly wait. My youngest daughter is coming to visit for a week on the 4th of April. I'm really looking forward to seeing her and my 19 month old granddaughter. I don't get to see them but a couple of times a year so I really look forward to spending time with them. Our 27th wedding annivrsary is this Wednesday. It doesn't seem like it's been that many years but I can't remember my life without my husband. It seems like he has always been apart of my life. Got to run for now. Hope you have a great week.

Hi, I am 55 years old, will be 56 on April 15. l have been on the Atkins plan since January 10, 2005 and have lost 21 lbs. and have about 40 lbs to go.
In the past I have always lost weight without exercising but I also regained it fast. :q: I now lose weight very slowly at about a lb. a week at the most. I plan on starting to exercise which I hope will keep my blood sugar level. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and we still have a lot of snow on the ground so I plan on using the treadmill until next month and will start walking outside. I have been suffering from hypoglycemia for years and recently my fasting blood sugar levels show I am pre-diabetic. If I don't reverse this, I will be a diabetic within a few years. I hope to permanently change my way of eating.
I retired from the federal government in April, 2004 and gained 30 lbs. since then.
I feel so much better eating this way but I am still very sensitive to eating too many carbs early in the day. I can't eat any carbs for breakfast. For lunch I eat must balance protein, fat and carbs. I don't have this problem starting in the late afternoon.
Does anyone else have a problem?

Anne55 I'm not much of a Breakfast person so I usually eat Ham and cream cheese roll ups or bacon and eggs. Have you tried making a breakfast quiche or maybe a low carb muffin ? Your body should soon readjust an once your metabolism changes you will feel better. I find if I drink a cup of hot tea first thing in the morning and wait for an hour before I eat anything I feel much better. I'll be 52 this August and I'm going through menapause so I lose really slow. The more I exercise the better I do. Welcome to our forum. Have a great day.

Brenda,
Happy Anniversary tomorrow and hope the two of you have many, many more.

Thanks for your advice about cooking the foods hubby wants and freezing them.I will have to ask him about that.He will probably balk and say not to go through all of that.My time is rather limited for cooking since I look after granddaughter Mariah during the day.She is 4 1/2 months old and keeps me busy.

I have started using the crockpot more so that has really helped.I am going to put a chuck roast in the crockpot in the morning so it can cook all day.I told hubby that I would buy some potatoes for him but he said not to bother.Guess he doesn't miss potatoes all that much after all.

I have had a easier time this week so hope that keeps up.My cold symptoms seem to be getting worse again thanks to hubby. He has caught a cold and passed his germs along to me.

Have fun with your daughter and granddaughter in a few weeks.

Anne55,
I'd like to welcome you to our thread. It is always nice to have new ladies join us.You are doing really well low carbing.

I started out about where you started.I am down about 40 pounds with more to go.I feel so much better after losing the 40 pounds.I saw a picture of me when I was 40 pounds heavier which reminded me of how far I have come.Sometimes I sort of forget that I have lost 40 pounds.Guess I am getting used to the slimmer me even if I still have more to lose.

I have found if I eat a sensible breakfast of eggs and a protein that I do much better the rest of the day.If I skimp on breakfast I really struggle the rest of the day.

Hope you stick around and continue to post with us.

hi everyone
wow, i just realized it's friday, i don't know where the week went. i spent some time just now catching up on the posts.
anne55-welcome, i hope you keep posting here, we all try to support each other and due to our age range we tend to have alot of the same goals, problems, health issues etc when it comes to losing weight and exercising. congratulations on your 21lb loss since new year, that's fantastic. i live in northern canada and we still have snow as well, we had some thawing last week and then this week it went back down to -15c, everything turned to ice and it's once again too difficult to walk outside. i have never been further east than toronto and ottawa however my daughter is getting married at the end of summer in kentville n.s. and after the wedding my 17 yr old granddaughter and i will travel all around Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and over to the Moncton N.B. area before returning home. i am really looking forward to it.
nancy-
i hope you've had a good week and your cold is better, does jeremy's school take spring break, would that mean you have him and the baby full time. we have spring break here starting monday for 2 weeks. of course i no longer look after my granddaughter during school breaks being that she is 17 so i just get a break from making her breakfast for 2 wks.
brenda-i hope you had a nice day wednesday on your 27th anniversary, that is quite a record in today's world, congratulations to you and your husband:thup: i bet you are happy to have the garage done and have a nice exercise area.

Hi Jes, Thanks for the good wishes. The garage is fantastic. I have an appointment today to join Curves and I'm really excited about it. I'm still holding where I was so I'm hoping adding the workout at Curves three times a week will help. The Air Base has their open house this weekend. My husband and I are taking 40 of the ROTC cadets to help out. It's going to be a long day but I'll get tons of walking in. Hubby and I went hiking last weekend. We hiked a mile up in the White Tank Mountains to a beautiful waterfall. It was harder than the treadmill but we had a blast. We are going to try to do it again this Sunday. The weather man says it's suppose to rain all weekend but I'm hoping his wrong. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi everyone,
Well I've been away from here, just too much going on. Shall I vent?
Went away for a weekend with a girlfriend and got back this past Monday. Tuesday evening I find my husband whispering on the phone to someone. I ask him who he's talking to when he was done. It was his/my bro-in-law in Maine where he's been working. Husband tells me he wants to move there - without me. He's been making arrangements. The next day is my birthday. I cry most of the day, at work, home etc. and then we "celebrate" my birthday with the kids. I'm a mess. Next day I resolve if that's what he wants....fine, throw away almost 27 years of marriage. The kids are almost all grown, I have a career and many friends. (He has none) and I will be OK, this is just a new chapter of my life. I can now do all those things I've always wanted to do that he has always said no to for one reason or other. He will find out the grass is not greener on the other side. I truly believe this is a mid-life crisis for him. He's covered his gray hair on his head and mustache, and whitened his teeth. He says there is no one else and my bro-in-law said he saw no one when he was up there. He just doesn't want to be married anymore and wants a change he says.
Needless to say I have not been watching what I eat although I try to stay on track it seems there's always one part of the day I go off. I have not been to exercise as most days this past week I was away, then crying, then it was my birthday, etc. I plan on getting back on track exercising Monday and I've been eating LC most of the day each day (except for b-day cake) and when I go into mourning which is what this feels like to me.
Any words of encouragement would be appreciated. This 51 year-old could use it. Thanks!

Pam, my heart goes out to you, 27 years of marriage is a long time and for your mate to just want to give up on it...has to be very devastating. It could be or not be a mid-life crisis....Every situation is different and I'm not saying your hubby is cheating on you. All I'm saying is...for your own peace of mind maybe you need to follow up on this. I do know, if this were me...I'd want to know the truth and I'd follow my gut instinct to find out. You see, I've been there, done that with my first husband. My instincts were correct, he was cheating on me. The whispering phone call, the changing of appearance, him making arrangements to move, (behind your back) brings back many bad memories for me. I hope I'm not speaking out of line here. I wish you the best and we're here for you. If you do want to find out if he's cheating, add me to your buddy list and I'll let you know how you can find out. A big hug for you Pam and try to keep your spirits high.

Wishing you a BELATED http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/animatedhappybdaytwist.gif

Hi everyone http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/hi20.gif

Geez, I've sure been slacking on my posting.http://www.geocities.com/dia_47/40.gif It's been crazy around here. It seems like there just isn't enough hours in a day lately. Last Sunday was my Birthday, (I'm a double nickel now....lol) hubby took me out to eat and boyyyyyyyyyyyy did I cheat. It's ok though, it was worth it and I really feel you just got to do it sometimes. I gained 2 lbs from that meal and it's taken me 6 days to get em back off. Anyways I'm back on a roll again and doing good. The weather has been beautiful this last week, but today it's raining. Anyways...I'm off to grocery shop.

Have a great LC Day!
