Thanks for the welcome Arizona and congratulations on the fantastic weight loss.....6lbs!!! you must be so happy. I have decided to try increasing the excercise from 3 or 4 days to 7 days per week to see if that will help.
Keep up with whatever it is you have been doing as it is obviously working really well. I look forward to hearing of your progress and I will let you know how I get on. Being only 61 1/2 inches tall every pound makes a big difference to me, this extra 10 lbs I have accumulated around my abdomen is driving me nuts.

Congrats Arizona! 6# is a wonderful weight loss.

Welcome Kabina to our forum. We try to help support each other. I am new to the forum too by just a couple of weeks, and I have learned a lot from the girls.

My week has sure been a bummer as my 20 year old son who is a Marine reservist was told last Saturday he will be leaving for Iraq January 3rd. I have been so depressed. It makes me want to eat! eat! eat!

Do any of you ladies have sons or daughters in Iraq?

I'm trying to hang in there and keep as close as possible to my CAD.

Linda

Linda sorry to hear that your son will be leaving for Iraq. You and he will be in my thoughts and prayers. Enjoy the time from now until Jan. and then know that we will all be here for you.

My sons are past the age of worrying about them going to war but I have a 16 year old grandson that is fast approaching that age. I just wish things could be settled without going to such drastic means.

Have a good day,
Windy (Linda)

Linda my youngest son was with the 3rd Infantry going into Iraq. He was with David Bloom so we got a blow by blow of what was happening everyday on the T.V. He is also Airborne so he moved from one hot spot to another. When the airport was taken he was there and he spent the last several months he was in Iraq going to house to house searching for bad guys. My husband spent 27 years in the Air Force and during that time he went to all kinds of places including Kuwait three times. When my husband retired I thought I was threw having to worry, then our youngest announced that he felt he had to go help the Iraqi People and he joined the Army. Nothng can prepare you for your child going to war. I'm not going to tell you not to worry but I can tell you what my son told me. He said he watched the Iraqi people tear down the statue of Saddum and he saw the years of suffering and hurt in their faces. Their orphanages are full of children whose parents were tortured and killed for little or no reason. My son helped uncover the mass graves and had to stand helpless while the families cried out for their loved ones. I learned from my son that there are many good things happening in Iraq because of our military regardless if the reason for going to war was what some people think was the right one. My son told me that when you see that kind of cruelty and injustice that weather the man had weapons of mass destruction was of no importance. My son became a man the year he spent in Iraq and I prayed everyday that God keep him safe and whole and bring him home to me. His unit just returned to Iraq a few weeks ago. My son didn't go because he needed some medical attention. He's going to be fine pshyically and emotionally. I think, no I know, he has learned that no matter what anyone says our son's and daughters did and or doing what is neccessary. I couldn't be more proud of my son and the man he has become. The next year will be very hard for you and your family. Make sure you talk about your feelings no matter what. Pray and have faith in the Lord to keep him safe and please try to remember when people bad mouth what he is doing that because of your son and many more like him they have the freedom and the privledge to voice their opinion. We learned real quick not to believe everything that we heard on the news because the news only reports the bad. No one is reporting all of the good thigs that are happening in Iraqi. Also try to remember the rebuilding is going slow not because the Iraqi people are against the effort but because the terriost from other countries are fighting to make them fail. You can always talk to me when things get rough or if your just worried. I'll put your son on our prayer list and I 'm sure everyone on this forum will do the same. My son told me the other day that one of the things that helped him the most was knowing that we were proud of what he was doing and that we had faith in him. God speed to you and yours.

Thank-you for the welcome Nancy. I also have trouble with my knee. At times it used to get so painful that I could only walk a few steps. About a year ago I started taking RXOmega-3 Pharmaceutiical Grade fish oil capsules and I noticed a tremendous improvement, my knee hasn't been this good for years. I honestly couldn't believe the difference it made. I hope this is of some help to you.

Nancy, Windy and Arizona B:

What wonderful letters of support. I am so thankful for such friends whose faces I have not seen, but are one in heart. Our children are so special.

Ryan is having depression problems which have stemmed for quite some time. I took him to a good doctor today who has started him on Zoloft and will be making him an appt with a psychiatrist. I want him mentally ready to handle whatever he may come upon. My family is christian and we have much faith in God. We are nothing with out Him!

My husband and I plan to enjoy what time we have with Ryan. We are very proud of him and he knows that. It is so hard to imagine not having him for one year. We are all such a close family unit. We, as well as our daughter, Heather and her family are all praying with us that he will get healthy first. He is having a bladder problem for which he has to wear patches to control his frequency and has a hyperreflexia problem on his left leg that so far one neurologist cannot figure out. He goes to another neurologist Oct 24. His health problems have been depressing for him I'm sure.

Yesterday my husband and I celebrated 34 years of marriage. We had my reward meal at the DQ and had a chicken basket and a pecan cluster blizzard. Ha! We had taken a trip to Tennesee a week or so ago so we had already celebrated. We are certainly not in style! hehehe! Got to get really serious this week! Need 25# off my 5 ft 2-1/2 inch frame. Seems like I am on many meds that the weight is having to be chisseled off.

I vow to support my friends in their weight loss and I know I will receive the same.

Have a great week!

Kabina,

I have problems eating fish because the oil lays in my bladder and causes such an odor. How do you handle the fish oil capsules? Do you take them for osteoarthritis? Glucosamine and Fluribuprofen have been a lifesaver as I have "arthur" in my neck back, both knees, and hands.

Would welcome your feedback!

Hi Linda,
Years ago I (when i was 19) I had Rheumatoid Arthritis which was really bad for about 8 years, then suddenly went iinto remission. I no longer have RA but my knee joint was damaged when the disease was active and I have had trouble with it ever since (Osteoarthitis).
I was recommended to try the fish oil by a friend who had experienced great pain relief after taking it. I was very skeptical at first but thought it was worth a try. I was astounded! .......the pain just went away and I have had no problems sine I started taking it (over a year ago now).
The Omega3 fatty acids in the fish oil are anti-inflammatory - hence the pain relief, with no side effects. The capsules contain a very high dose of the fatty acids - 600mg each capsule. It woukd be impossible to eat enough fish to obtain that amount. Also, I dislike fish and all sea-food. I take the capsules plus a capsule of vit E with a glass of water before going to bed and never get a fishy tase or smell. I get my supplies from iherb.com They have the best prices.
Hope this helps

Linda it sounds like your son needs to report to his unit commander or 1st Sgt. about his health issues. My husband was a 1st Sgt in the Air Force and he would never allow one of his soldiers to be deployed with the medical problems you son is facing right now. Have your Doctor give you a written document of what is medically wrong with Ryan for his command and submit it to the 1st Sgt of his unit. He will be on his feet all the time in Iraq and for very long hours. My son is a Sgt in the Army so I'm going to email him and ask him what needs to be done i Ryan behave if that is OK with you. Let me know and I will talk to my Trevor today.
I also have arthritis in my hips. My phsyical therapist put me on Glucosamine and told me to walk at a slow pace on my treadmill until I could gradually speed up and increase my speed. It took me several weeks but I can walk at a good pace now and go for almost an hour. The Glucosamine reallly helps but I also stay away from really acid foods like tomatoes. The more water you drink he better. Try soaking the fish you vcook in milk for an hour before you cook it. It really helps with the oil in the fish. Salmon is the fish you need the most.
I weighed this morning and I've dropped another 2 lbs. I'm on a roll and I intend to stay there for as long as possible. Was trying to have a Tom last week but only had a few spots. I hope this means I've finally finished. Good going on the weight loss Nancy. Every lb. counts. Deneen, don't worry about the weight gain just get back on board. It's really hard to stay with the program when you are surrounded by family , especially grandchildren. My 5 year old granddaughter is like my carb police. She will ask me ---- Mimi, are you suppose to eat this or that ? She is always telling me lets exercis Mimi or lets go for a walk. I keep telling myself I'm setting a good example for all of my grandchildren. Well, got to run for now and get some work done. Hope evryone has a great LC day !!! By the way all of my friedns call me B but my name is Brenda.

good morning everyone
i just realized i haven't been here for over a week and so i've just finished catching up on all the posts, what a surprise --all the new people posting here, that's just great to have more people to chat and exchange ideas and support each other, welcome to you all. for those that don't know i am 65,single with 2 sons,1 daughter,17yr old granddaughter & a 14 yr old grandaughter, took early retirement at 55 due to health problems have lived in whitehorse yukon in northern canada for 32 yrs and low carbing since jan 2000. i have seen a marked improvement in my health problems since starting lc'ing and trying to exercise regularly, that is why i am so glad to have joined this thread over a yr ago when nancy started it. it keeps me motivated to keep to my exercise routine and reporting my progress keeps me accountable.
my usual routine is monday to friday to do leslie sansone's walk away the pounds video 1, 2 or3. currently i am back to doing WATP1 and need to work back up to WATP2. stationery biking and walking.
i have had my slip ups while low carbing and exercising but i know it is the best thing for me and my health so i keep plugging along and over the past 2yrs i have tried to be an example and a mentor for my 17 yr old GD who lost 60lbs lc'ing and has a whole different set of problems and issues staying LC in a teenage world and in her own home which is not LC.
once again glad to see all the new faces and welcome:wave:

Hello Brenda!

It's okay with me if you write your son. Ryan gets in to see the psychiatrist or psychologist tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. I will be glad to see what the doctor has to say to him. He is just not mentally or physically ready to go to Iraq. Ryan said he would like to start emailing his higher ups, but thought he would wait and see this doc tomorrow and see how it works out on the Zoloft. Hopefully the Zoloft will help him sleep. He has horrible dreams.

I've tried to get more water in today. I miss my diet coke, sf gum and tic tacs so badly. Guess I am hooked on all the bad carbs. I don't know if I live to eat or eat to live. Hehehe!

What is WATP1 and 2?

I haven't gotten to sweat to the oldies on my glider this week. Had to go into work early every day and know I have to work early again tomorrow. I'm too mentally zapped at the end of the day.

I may try the fish capsules. With winter coming on and all the dampness, I suffer greatly. Thanks Kabina!

Have a good one!

Linda

I worry about my granddaughter who is 9 and is overweight. It is so hard when they should be allowed to eat about anything they want at that age.

I love lc'ing. My blood work is so good and especially the cholesterol. My dad died with heart disease and I'm trying to keep my cholesterol in check.

hi linda
to answer your question re WATP1 & 2---WATP means Walk Away The Pounds
this is a set of walking dvd's by Leslie Sansone who has many types of walking tapes and dvd's. this set that i have is actually WATP 1, 2 & 3. #1 is called Get Up and Get Started, it is 20 mins long and you exercise with 2lb weights for upper body while doing the walking steps which is the equivalents of walking 1 mile.# 2 High Calorie Burn is the same but it is 30 mins and 2 miles and #3 Super Fat Burning is also the same with more upper body work and 50 mins. the 2lb weights are your choice if you use them. they are good workouts that can be done in any weather:lol:

i understand your concern over your 9yr old GD. it is such a heart wrenching thing to see them putting on weight because you know exactly what they will have to go through if they keep it on and yet at such a young age do you put them on a diet or just overlook it, maybe trying the middle road is a start by trying to encourage them to eat whole foods and cut down on the sugar--it is difficult. it took my granddaughter until she was 15 and then she decided for herself but your granddaughter is so much younger.
congratulations to you on your good numbers that is a real good thing.

Linda,
I spoke to my husband about Ryan and he said he doesn't meet the requirements for deployment. He needs to talk to his command and they need to set up an appointment with the military doctor's. He will need the medical report from the civilian doctor . Ryan needs to contact his military command as soon a possible as the military does nothing in a hurry. As soon as I hear from my son I'll let you know. Have a great low carb day and hang in there.

We didn't have grandson Jeremy today since his daddy had the day off from work.I took advantage of the free time and got some outside work done which is great exercise.Pulling lots of weeds and did some trimming.

Been watching closely what I eat this week and so far have done really well.Hope to continue with my losses.

I have also been doing the WATP routine but not as hard as I was doing it previously.Think I need to protect my knee some since it is still bothering me a little.

Looks like everyone is doing well with their exercising.I have been enjoying all of the posts on our thread.

Hi Nancy and everyone,

Hoping the gun a little here as I will get off of pc and walk my 1.25 on the treadmill as soon as I finish this post.

Nancy -- Glad to hear that the knee is a little better -- I pulled a groin muscle several years ago and if I start getting too carried away on the treadmill I can really start to feel it. I looked real good trying to walk with a cane. Funny thing is you limp to ease the pressure on the groin muscle and then screw up your back because you're not walking correctly. Sometimes you can't win for losing.

Gotta scoot and hit the mill.

Hello ladies!

Brenda, thank you for your concern and all the info on Ryan. Tell your husband thank you very much! Ryan's shrink told him today he is definitely clinically depressed and is a mild bipolar. He thinks he may even be able to get him out of the Marines. He said it would be dangerous for Ryan to go to Iraq in this condition. He told Ryan to start mailing his chain of command and let them be aware of what is going on. The doc told him that he even wonders if the Marine Corp is what brought all of this on in the first place. He has drill again weekend after this one and he is already sick to his stomach just thinking about it.

Where do I get WATP tapes? I'd love to have them. I need something to exercise with indoors since I no longer belong to the Y.

Jesdorka, I love this site. I have never been so inspired as when I come home and hear all the helpful suggestions that these ladies give and how motivated they all are.

Can't believe today is the first day of Autumn. I usually spend all of Fall dreading what comes afterward, but this year am determined to walk more and enjoy the beauty of what Ohio's seasons give.

I'm drinking H2O like mad and seems like all I do is potty. Guess that goes with it, huh? Have a long weekend coming up so hope to get lots of exercise in. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend.

Have a great day tomorrow!

You can buy the WATP at Wal-Mart.I would start out with an easier 1 mile walk first.

I have the 4 mile super challenge workout and would love to have one of the easier one.Keep forgeting to check out the selection at our Wal-Mart.The workout I have is rather rough on the knees.

re WATP videos--if you can't find them at walmart you could also try amazon.com or leslie sansone has her own website ~ www.walkawaythepounds.com (http://www.walkawaythepounds.com).
i also have 2 of her earlier tapes that are very good for beginners, they are-walk aerobics and advanced walk aerobics, they dont use weights for upper body.
another hint, if you go for the watp videos you have to order the weight ball seperately but i just went to walmart and bought a set of 2lb dumbells which were only a couple of dollars which i believe were cheaper than what her weight balls are.
there is also a thread on this forum called "What is your favourite video" it has lots of good ideas for exercising indoors, i am not positive but i think that thread is in the exercise forum.

My Wal-Mart is a poor excuse for a Wal-Mart. I went looking for some tapes for my walkman and they said they don't carry them anymore. Said they didn't sell. They are building a new Wal-Mart Superstore in the area so maybe they will have a good selection.

I did find WATP 1, 2 and 3 at Amazon for $14 so I bought them. Can't wait to receive them in the mail.

I hoped to walk today, but no can do. Maybe tomorrow.

I am drinking my water, but can't seem to find the time to do my exercising. I have a long weekend after working 12 days straight. Maybe I can hit the glider tomorrow morning and sweat with Richard Simmons. Have a really sore knee so can't do the exercises to the music.

My grandson is 4 tomorrow and have a b.d. party to attend Sunday. I'm on CAD so I can eat his b.d. cake if it is within 60 minutes start to stop of my reward meal. Is anyone else on CAD? I was on Atkin's for almost two years but began to stall.

Have a great weekend!

Jes,
I am going through the same thing now too. When I first got back on Induction over a month ago I lost 6 pounds, the following week I lost 3 pounds, the week after that I stayed the same, the next week I lost 1 pound and this week I stayed the same again.I have been staying on plan so it is rather frustrating that I am not losing the way I had hoped.

I believe you and I went back on induction about the same time so it is rather interesting that we are both not losing now.

Since my knee was bothering me I hadn't been exercising much. Now that it is feeling better I rode my stationary bike yesterday.Today I walked quite a bit and did yard work so I am once again more active.

Hope to have a loss this week.

I still have a young daughter and realized IF I want to be around to raise her I had better get on the ball and do something. In just a few weeks I already feel 100% better, am losing pounds and inches and am really motivated to stick with this.

Look forward to particpating and getting to know all of you.

good morning everyone,

welcome renee-glad you've joined our group of over 50's:wave:and that you already feel better after a few weeks of LC'ing. there's nothing like getting all that sugar, flour etc out of your diet and eating wholesome whole foods to make one feel better and more energized-so good luck to you on your way to better health:). in this group we try to encourage each other to get some exercise in, daily if we can or at least a few times a week. for me i believe it is part and parcel in obtaining better health through weight loss, reducing blood pressure, strengthening arthritic joints and lowering cholestrol.
i am 65,single,retired, 3 children in their 40's and 2 granddaughters 17&14. the 17 yr old also follows the LC woe. i live in northern canada in the yukon territory, geographically alaska is our neighbour, skagway alaska is approx a 2hr drive away.

hope everyone is having a good week, we've had high winds and pounding rain since sunday and around 5pm last night the power went out for most of the night and not everywhere in the city is restored yet but the wind has died down and the rain stopped so i gotta run and get my walk in before it starts up again as is being predicted for this afternoon.

Thanks Nancy for the nice welcome. I live in Mississippi, guess I missed the part of profile info where you put in where you live , will have to go look for that again.

Unfortunately my 9 y/o and my 11 y/o granddaughter only see each other maybe 4-5 times a year due to distance . I hate to say it but they get along 'on the surface' but beneath is a strong current on competition with each other. They both try to outdo each other in my eyes, I've always tried to make them both feel special BUT ....

What do the 3 numbers in the STATS represent..I know the first is starting weight..what is the second one? Also how does one calculate Progress..like yours says 44 %? just curious on this.

Hi Jes,

Living in the Yukon sounds so exotic to me as I live in the deep south.
I've been reading over all the old posts and what excercise eyeryone is doing...so far I am only walking a little daily..I have had some cardiac problems(my wakeup call) recently and MD is to release me next Thursday if the tests next week are OK.

I'm thinking at this point I would like to do a walking program and maybe some toning excercises..Main thing is just to get STARTED on it and stick to it.

Hi Ladies,
It's been a few days since I posted so I was glad to see a few new members. Renee I started out walking slow on my threadmill and gradually worked my way up. You will be amazed how much better you feel in no time. Good Lord Jes, living in the Yukon must be really exciting. I was born in Lousianna and raised in Texas. My husband was in the Air Force for 27 years so we traveled all over the world but the closest to the Yukon was the year my husband spent on top of a mountain in Anchorage, Alaska with 15 other guys on a remote tour. My husband says Alaska is really beautiful so if the Yukon is anything like Alaska you must live in a beautiful place. Jackie thanks for the tip on the walking tapes. I have been looking for a few weeks now. I'm having a hard time getting on a regular exercise routine. I babysit two of my grandaughters during the week and I'm finding it really hard to get the free time for my treadmill. Today I'm going to use my treadmill even if I have to do it at midnight. Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi All,

Am still in KY. won't be back online regularly until next Monday. Don't have a treadmill here and not a whole lot of time so have been doing what I can when I can.

Since last Saturday I've only walked 3 times:
1.25 miles outside
1.25 miles outside
and probably 1 mile outside.

Not much but better than nothing. Of course the walking outside was on the hills OUCH OUCH OUCH. Guess I'm going to have to put the treadmill on an incline.

Hi Everyone,
I am back to exercising this week and my knee is feeling better.I was leary of doing the Walk Away The Pounds workouts but forged ahead with no added pain to my knee.I have also been doing some walking.

I've been watching my carb intake the last few weeks. It has rather discouraging since I lost 6 pounds the first week then 3 the following week. After that I stayed the same then the following week I lost 1 pound. This past week I stayed the same again. This week doesn't look much different for me.Don't know what to do differently although I feel like I am losing inches.I need to measure and see if there is any difference.

Renee...looks like you figured out what the stats were and how the progress percentage is done.We put in our changes and the percentage changes according to how we are doing.

Arizona B....I know how busy you are with watching 2 grandchildren. After granddaughter Mariah is born and daughter Kimberly returns to work probably in January some time we will be busy watching two grandchildren.Grandson Jeremy attends pre-k three mornings a week so we have a little free time then.Daughter Kimberly is hoping to continue to work up as close to delivery as possible.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hello everyone!

I've not written in a few days.

I rec'd my WATP tapes through the mail and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Now I can exercise without hurting the arthritic back, hip, both knees and ankle. I did the WATP 2 today and made it just fine. I really feel like I am accomplishing a lot when I workout daily. I feel like I am finally doing something for myself. I was able to exercise Wed and Thurs. Tomorrow I may use my glider.

Still doing CAD. I do find I get hungrier when I exercise and really miss not snacking. Trying to stay off scales. Did get a few people at church Sunday ask if I was losing. Guess that is progress, huh.

Arizona B, is your son doing okay in Iraq?

Welcome new members. Glad to see you in our support forum. We all share the same goal, lose weight, exercise, and support each other while making new friends.

I am from the most southern tip of Ohio, but work at a hospital in KY. I am only 30 minutes from WV.

Keep in touch!

hi renee

check out this site--www.lesliesansone.com. you will find lots of information re leslie sansone and her walking tapes and dvd's etc. over the years she has produced many types and levels of at home walking exercises. along with the info, you can order directly from her site as well however many of her tapes and dvd's are also available at places like walmart, target and amazon etc.
i have been a follower of leslie's since the late 80's and though i like her routines i find her waaaay toooo chatty:rolleyes: so what i do is follow the routine with her a few times until i'm comfortable with the steps etc and then i mute her and play my own music making sure i use music that keeps up with her pace.:)

Hi to all the nifty fifty ladies. I'm staring 51 right in the face. I've been low-carbing for six months now. I've gone from 185 to 150, but now am stalled, and wavering. I think it's because I'm going into menapause. Anyway, on the subject of exercise, I used to love my health rider back home in Victoria B.C, but as I'm living/working in Taiwan for a few years, I haven't been exercising. It's just too d*** hot here. I hesitate to buy an equipment here, as anything I buy here, has to be left behind when I leave. Oh well. I'm VERY glad for this thread. I hope you can feel the good wishes I'm sending you over the airwaves.

Hello!

Welcome to our thread! We are a great bunch of ladies who try to keep supporting each other and our diets. We also enjoy hearing about grandchildren and families.

Why don't you try the WATP tapes (Walk away the pounds) by Leslie Sansone. She is great. There is a WATP 1, 2 and 3 mile. You can walk in your own house or apartment. I did the three mile last nite and sure did feel the muscles burning. Probably muscles I haven't used in years! Ha! The girls say you can find them in Walmart and Target, but I ordered mine from Amazon. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and one hip, spine, neck and hands and am still able to workout with Leslie. Giv'em a try.

That is great that you have lost 30#. I am trying to get below 170 right now. I keep hoving over 172 and 174. I'd love to get to 150-155.

Have a great week!

I bought a new WATP workout tape over the weekend.Couldn't find any of the WATP workout tapes at our local Super Wal-Mart but was able to find them at a store in our mall.I got a 2 mile workout that uses 2 pound weights during some of the routine.

I did the routine both yesterday and today.I am enjoying it.Really like the workout it gives.

Hello everyone!

Having a beautiful fall day here. Had a haircut appt this morning so I did the 2 mile WATP before ever leaving my bedroom this morning. Going to try to make a habit of that. I don't have the weights, but I still feel the workout in my back and arms.

Still loving the lc WOE. I don't feel deprived at all. Since I can have carbs at supper, I feel satisfied on CAD.

Has anyone seen the cortisol pills at Wal-Mart? I bought a box last nite and got the hunger control version. An employee told me that a coworker of hers is really losing weight on these. Said she is using the carb blocker as well in the same brand. I found them by the cash registers. The brand is Liquid-gel Cortisol Hunger Control and they were a little over $3 for a box. They had 30 gel caps and you only take 1 or 2 per day. This can't hurt seeing as tho I sit on my behind 8 hours a day typing. My DH is taking them too.

I hate to go to work today. The sunshine is so bright and I work in an office with no windows. I could really get some windows cleaned and burn those calories today! My dieting attitude is better when the sun is out! (smile)

Have a great day and let's keep encouraged!

Hi Everyone,

1.25 miles on treadmill. Didn't have a treadmill at home so just walked 3 times with a friend -- what a difference -- we obviously walked our mouths more than our feet. Tonight on the mill almost killed me.

Back in the saddle again -- guess I'll get more saddle sores.

I am going to try the Cortisol Hunger Control to help me during the time between supper and bedtime. Thanks for the info.

I am handicaped and can not walk far. I wish I could take long walks like I use to do. I do get in the pool 2 x a wk. I am down 7 lbs of my 25 by Christmas goal.

I also started Elder College. I think it is a great idea. I am taking an 8 wk course about Lewis and Clark. I love it. I have added some one day courses also. Gee, only $25 for as many as you want to take in one semester. Can not beat that price.

Arizona B, thank you for your concern about Ryan. I do think within the last couple of days he is acting more like the old Ryan. He doesn't sleep very good because of the bad dreams, but shrink doesn't do anything about it. He has seen shrink twice and this guys seems very interested in helping him. The doc did raise him up again from 100 to 200 mg of Zoloft. Ryan has the USMC ball and drill in November. The doc said he was going to give Ryan another letter to fax for both activities saying he doesn't want him near a military activity again. He says that is probably when the Marines will jump on this actively after two letters from a psychiatrist. We just don't know how. Ryan worked his last day with Manpower at hospital where I am employed Friday so amid all of this mess is now trying to find a job. Tell Trevor thank you for his concern too. I am praying for his safety while in Iraq. Keep me posted on him too.

I am taking the cortisol when I can remember them. DH says he can't tell any difference at all. I am just trying to do the WATP on a regular basis and my clothes are fitting much looser. I do so much better when I don't look at the scales. I am just thankful not to gain (smile)!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,
HAven't been by in awhile.I continue to do my new WATP workout. It is a really good workout and I especially like the part with the 2 pound weights.I really needed that kind of workout for my arms.

I may be a little quiet due to all of the stress in my life right now.Daughter Karen's wedding is November 6th.Daughter Kimberly's due date is November 29th.Since she isn't able to keep her diabetes under control she may deliver our granddaughter on the 28th of this month. We weren't expecting to hear that since it will mean that she will be a month early. Her OB will be doing an amniocentesis on the 28 to check on Mariah's lungs. If they are fully developed she will go ahead then with the c-section.Mariah is now weighing 4 pounds so she is at least weighing what her brother weighed at 3 weeks of age when he came home from the hospital.

Keep a postivie attitude and when you start feeling down take a good look at Mariah's big brother and you'll be reminded that the Lord can do anything. Hang in there and if you need to download remember we are all here for you. Have a good day.

Hi Deneen,
Just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going. I haven't had a chance to get on my treadmill today so far but I'm going to try to get some time in later tonight. Had two of the granddaughters today so needless to say between them and trying to clean the house I've put in a full day. I know what you mean about living in the bathroom. I spend half of my time drinking water and the other half getting rid of it. I have 50 lbs I want to lose so I can use all of the support I can find. My hubby says he will buy me a whole new wardrobe as soon as I get down to my goal weight. He is really supportive and I don't know what I'd do without him to try my recipes out on. Have a good day and keep the faith.

Jes -- I've got the WATP tapes but just hadn't figured out the right time to use them. Figured it out now -- after "C" goes to sleep (sleeps with me) I get back up and WATP.

Brenda -- Spanich rice was my supper tonight YUMMY. I had a bad day yesterday (not the lc part) just the mind part. Down in the dumps type of thingie. I am feeling much better today and am back on a roll.
Know what you mean about the clothes -- my daughter is about 30 pounds lighter than I am right now and she looks at me and says mom you're going to have one heck of a wardrobe when you loose a little bit more. I'm chasing her weight with a vengence.

Gotta scoot. Hang in there and will type to you later.

Hello!

Had a rough time with WOE this week. Have had hives (how miserable) as a reaction from the medication I am on for my bladder so this meant no exercise. The only thing right I have done this week is drink my water like I was supposed to. Have over done the carbs a couple of times this week. Oh well, jump on the band wagon next week and get myself lined out.

Hope everyone else has had a good week!

Hi Linda.
Don't worry about going over on the carbs. It's almost impossible to stay focused when you are sick. I was doing really good until yesterday. It rained here all day and I was in and out of the cold and damp. I got soaked when I went to pick up my granddaughter from school. Once I get cold It takes me forever to get warm and I had to take my Celebrex this week for the joint pain. I had lost 6 lbs the last week and now the scales say I've gain three back. Somedays I get really frustrated. So, back on the wagon Monday. Keep drinking your water and we'll both work hard starting Monday. Hope your hives are better. Have a great weekend.

Deneen,
My oldest son and daughter-in-law are now doing low carb. I'm making them a cook book so it will be easier for them to stay with it. My daughter-in-law is a great person and she is really pretty but she is really heavy. I've been so worried about her weight and I'm so excited for her. I got on the scales this morning and it says I've gained three lbs. I had to take my celebrex the last week so I figure that is the reason. My hot flashes are so bad this week I'm afraid I'm going to bust into flames any minute. I have to get on my treadmill the next two days. I was so busy the last two days I didn't get a chance to exercise. It rained here all day yesterday and got cool. I got soaked when I went to pick up my granddaughter from school. I have the day to myself today so It will be easy to stay focused. Everyone keeps telling me that once I'm through with menopause that I will be able to lose weight easier. Lord, I hope so. Oh well, I'll just be extra careful and see how things go. I'm going to try to increase my exercise and stay really strict and see what happens. Have a great day and let me know if you need any reciepes.

Hi everyone,
I haven't disappeared.Been thinking of all of you.Grandson Jeremy is in preschool today so I have a little time for the computer.

Last week wasn't a good week for me.I was up a few pounds in my weight. This week is much better.Wednesday was my birthday. No birthday cake this year.Really didn't want it.We went out to a local Mexican restaurant for a birthday celebration.I had their low carb dinner which consists of grilled chicken with cheese melted on it,broccoli and zuchinni grilled with a cheese sauce and a small lettuce salad with chopped avocado in it.A very good meal and I topped it off with their yummy low carb cheesecake which took the place of birthday cake.

I am down the few pounds I gained last week so I am happy that I was able to get those pounds back off before even more added on.

Daughter Kimberly is doing well. Her blood glucose readings are better this week. The non stress tests on baby Mariah were both good this week. The amniocentesis is scheduled for next Thursday. If Mariah's lungs are developed her OB wants to do the c-section.

Now there is a little problems with the amniocenstesis and finding out the results. The test is sent to another local hospital for the results.Well her OB says that will take 2 hours but the machine that the other hospital uses is broken. If it is still broken next Tuesday the test will need to be sent out of state to a NC hospital which means that it will take 24-48 hours to know the results. That means that baby Mariah might be born next Thursday or she might be born next Saturday. If her lungs aren't completely developed she will have the amniocentesis again the following Thursday and go through the whole process once again.

If it continues on to the following Thursday(November 4)that means if the testing machine is still broken that Mariah could even be born on the date of our other daughter's wedding.I don't even want to think of that.We will just take it one day at a time and not think of the what iffs.

Now y'all can seeing what we may be facing in the next 2 weeks.Sure would be nice if Mariah's lungs are developed and the testing machine is fixed so that Mariah could be born next Thursday. That would give us a week after Mariah's birth to concentrate on our other daughter's wedding. Our son in law is taking off the week after Mariah is born. That will give me more free time to get so much done if Mariah is born next week.

I need to get caught up on the messages and see how everyone is doing.Hope to post more often once Mariah is born and the wedding is history.

Nancy -- sorry I missed you BD -- hope it was a happy one.

Jes -- snow ---bbrrr----ugh!

Zuleikaa -- glad to have another buddy.

Arizona -- sorry to be lax lately -- somehow I kept missing this thread. Too much playing around with trying to be able to post pictures. Actually managed to post the stills but the animated ones are still way ahead of me. As to recipes -- any that you really enjoy are appreciated. I really like spicy foods. Diet around my daughters home is usually ground sirloin or chicken breasts with steak thrown in for good measure.

Have just lately been having a love affair with the ricotta cheese with splenda and cinnamon. Told myself this morning that I had to eat some eggs.

Exercise today was 1.50 miles on the treadmill. Somewhat achy in the hip joint so exercise is iffy at best. Started WATP at night but only occasionaly.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

OH MY BIG NEWS I LOST 4.5 POUNDS LAST WEEK. Down to 233.5 now. :D

Tomorrow we will find out from the ultrasound how much granddaughter Mariah is now weighing.Hard to believe that this might be the week that she is born. How time flies.

Hi everyone,
Deneen, Linda's site is where I get alot of my recipes. Some of them don't have enough spices for hubby so I just treak them to our taste. This is the site where I found the Spanish Rice reciepe. I also have a Green Chile Chicken Casserole from this site that is out of this world.
Nancy I'm sorry I missed your Birthday. I hope you had a good one. Your family may not think Birthday's are a big thing at our age but I do. Hell, I've decided to start counting backwards this year.
I'n on a exercise kick and I've decided to get tough with my family and friends'. I have a big family and we are always getting together. My son-in-law and my oldest daughter are always trying to get me to eat things I'm not suppose to. My Hubby and my oldest son are very supportive but it's hard when people are constantly putting temptation in your way. I've decided not to go anywhere or spend anytime with anyone that is going to tempt me to cheat for the next two weeks. Hubby says good for me and he's going to exercise with me .
Linda, I hope things at hoome are going better for you and especially for Ryan. My prayers are still with you and yours. My son Trevor as well as his wife will be in Iraq over Thanksgiving. I'm scare to death . Trevor wasn't suppose to be deployed again for two months but he asked that his deployment date be changed so he could go with Megan. The boy is my heart so I have to keep reminding myself that the good Lord takes care of his own.
I got to run for now. I'll post more later. Have a great day. Don't forget to drink your water and everybody try to exercise.

checked out Linds's Low Carb sit-it is a good one including all her links..thanks for that one Deneen!

Havn't been back to post lately But do read several threads in the wee hours every day or so.

Lc'ing is going well..taking the time to search recipes.make lists of ingredients , and cook ...BUT must admit my excercise is still sporatic...sigh..let's see I have lots of excuses I'm telling myself like
it's still Hot here..in the 80's-- my 9 year old has to be chaffured to endless activities..oh and I'm a full time artist and have time schedules, deadlines for commission paintings etc. and must stay in the studio when not busy with my youngest. Those are excuses.. need to become as compulive and devoted to excercise as I am to my dietary plan,my child, and my art.

Just musing out loud here I suppose..trying to motivate myself to make excercise a Daily habit..not hit or miss.

Some of you here do well with sticking to it it seems.

I just went to Linda's site. WOW!! Just what I need to put some changes in my boring food plan. I want to try the Pumpkin Pound Cake. She uses Almond meal or Almond flour. I have never used this...........Have any of you? I have used the soy flour and gotten along well with it.

It feels so good to have my clothes fit better. Even my winter coat is loose on me. That makes me happy. I bought it last winter. I just happen to have new bras in the lower size I am taking now. I know they have been in a drawer for more than a yr .........waiting for me to be able to wear them.

Go Ladies ! :agree: We can do this one day at a time.

Renee - you welcome on the site info. If Brenda's cole slaw recipe isn't on there you have to get it from her. Heaven in a bowl - if you like coleslaw.

Deneen,
The last time I weighed the scales said that I had gained two pounds of the 6 I have lost. I don't think I really have because I've been walking 3 miles on my treadmill 4 days a week and the other three days I'm doing my pilates and my Bowflex. I usually weigh a little heavier for the first couple of weeks when I'm using my Bowflex. I'm going to weigh again on Friday and I'll let you know what it says. I'm sleeping much better and my clothes fit much better so I'm just going to keep on exercising.
I'm so glad everyone likes Linda's recipe site. What she doesn't have the links connected to her site usual does. I'm busy trying to gather up recipes for the Holidays now.
Renee just keep exercising as much as you can. Sooner or later you'll find a grove that fits your time schedule. Welcome to our little group. This is the best bunch of people to be with for support.
Nancy, How is the family ? Hope the stress level goes down and let us know about the new grandbaby and the wedding. Got to run for now. Hope everyone has a great day.

Thank you so much for keeping this thread going. That means so much to me when I am not up to posting every day.

Baby Mariah is smaller than we were hoping now.She is weighing about 4 pounds 9 ounces when she was measured with the ultrasound. The amnio is still on for Thursday morning at 6:30.We should know within 2 hours if the c-section will be done.

I will let y'all know if she comes then or if we will be waiting till maybe Saturday or next week.Wedding plans are coming along fine.

Hello!

Did really B-A-D last week since I had hives and couldn't exercise so vowed to do better today and I really did. Did my WATP 2 today, drank my water and was good with my RM too. Why can't I do this everyday.

Nancy, I am so happy for you. Grandbabies are so precious. We are praying for her that she will come safely and not too soon.

Arizona B, thanks about asking about Ryan. He seems to be doing better. Still going to shrink and the shrink seems to think he needs a medical discharge. Marine Corp has still not reacted. When they receive second letter, they may begin. Ryan did get a telephone interview from the hospital I work at for a job in materials management and this would give him his own benefits as well as a good paying job. He needs stability right now. Keep him in your prayers! You know the gov't does nothing fast.

Hope you ladies have a good week! Think I'll let Richard Simmons sweat to the 60's tomorrow and I'll glide on my glider since I have a tender knee. Somedays I feel like I am falling apart. That's what I get for being in my 50's huh?

Keep encouraging us everyone! I know I sure enjoy this post and have met so many wonderful people!

Nancy, I agree with you that our grandchildren are precious. I don't know what I'd do without ours. When our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter Julia was born she was so tiny that everyone was afraid to hold her. She would literaly fit in your hands. I worried myself sick that something was going to happen to her. We knew the whole time her Mother was carrying her that she was really small. Today she is growing like a weed and is the most adorable child. I told her yesterday if she didn't lay off the Mac & Cheese that she is going to be built just like her Mimi, short and wide. She just grinned at me and says more. I'm sure that once the wedding is over and Mariah comes that things will calm down and you will be able to concentrate on you more. I'm always here if you need to talk.
Linda, I'm glad that Ryan is doing better. The job at the hospital sounds fantastic. The military's moto is " Hurry Up and Wait ". Just keep bugging them. My Trevor called a few days ago to tell me that he was going back to Irag for 8 days over the Thanksgiving Holiday. My daughter-in-law travels all over the world with the Army Chorus entertaining the troops and they are going to Bagdad for Thanksgiving. Trevor wasn't suppose to be deployed anywhere for at least two more months but he asked that his status be changed so he could go with Megan. Those two kids are giving me a head full of gray hair. I love Richard Simmons. Do you remember when he use to be on the soap opera General Hospital ? I had the first exercise tape he made where all of the people were sitting in a soda shop eating all kinds of fattening food. Everyone popped into a studio and did the most fantastic exercise routine I have ever done. When we moved a few years ago it got lost and I haven't been able to find another tape. I even wrote to the Simmons web site and all they would tell me is that the tape isn't made anymore. I know somewhere out there someone has the tape so if you hear of one please let me know. I did my Pilates yesterday and Oh My Lord, I thought I was going to die. I certainly need to work on my flexiblitiy. It's amazing how easy the tape is but how sore you get from it.
Renee I hope you have a good lc day. Keep in touch . we're all in this together. Got to run for now. If anybody comes across any good Holiday recipes let me know.

Brenda -- Have a few of RS tapes at home -- one of them is in a soda shop of some type. Will check and see what's on it when I go back to KY.(Nov 6). Hope all is going well and that extra little bit will drop off. Well actually it probably won't drop off it's probably good solid muscle from the work outs you've been doing. Muscle weighs more than fat and all that stuff.

All is getting quiet around here so I guess Carson has hit the sheets for the night, so grandma neen had better be thinking about getting off of here.

`Deneen I weighed this morning and I'm back down the original 6 pounds I had lost before I started exercising so much. I have 4 more pounds until I reeach our first goal. I can't tell you how sore I am from the pilates and the bowflex. I love the bowflex because you really see results fast. After the first six weeks you usually notice anywhere from 3 to six inches lost. It only takes 20 minutes to 30 minutes depending how many sets you do but it really helps with the hips and thats where I need it the most. I hope you do have the RS tape. I used it years ago and I lost 55 lbs . If you have it maybe you can make me a copy.
Is it cold there ? It started raining here last night and is suppose to rain all day today and tomorrow. Being in Arizona we can always use the rain. Don't have any grandchildren today so I'm going to clean, do laundry, iron, and get everything ready for the weekend since I have two granddaughters tomorrow night. I'm going to try to post some recipes for the Holidays in a few days. Did you try the Green Chile Chicken Casserole ? My husband loves this recipe. Two of my son's are Chef's and they both love this dish. Since I put my foot down with the family both of my son's are coming up with ways to help me make lc dishes. It can be great having two Chef's in the family as long as they are being supportive. Well, I got to run and get started on my chores. Have a great lc day. How are you coming on our first goal ?

Hi Everyone.Wanted to stop by and let all of you know that tomorrow is the day that granddaughter Mariah will be born. The amnio was done yesterday. The local testing showed that Mariah's lungs weren't fully developed but the more comprehensive testing that was received today showed that she can be delivered by c-section tomorrow.

Don't know the time for the delivery yet but I am sure I will have lots more to say tomorrow after the delivery.

Would appreciate good thoughts and prayers for our daughter Kimberly and baby Mariah tomorrow.

Thanks so much:)

Hi Deneen, thanks for the greeting. Could you tell me about `bowflex'? I have had bi-lateral knee joint replacements and although I am quite active there are a few things I simply can't do on or with them. I use the treadmill but would like to look at other - more rounded - forms of excercise.

Announcing the arrival of granddaughter Mariah!!!

Wanted to let all of you know that granddaughter Mariah arrived safely this morning at 8:51.She weighed in at 4 pounds 6.7 ounces and was 16 1/2 inches long. She is a very healthy preemie which were the exact words of her pediatrician:)

Mariah is a very content quiet baby which is a far cry from her brother Jeremy who had colic and cried a lot.Mariah rarely cries and we are hoping that she stays this content.

Thanks for all of the kind words. The next big thing is to see how 3 1/2 year old grandson Jeremy reacts to his new baby sister.

Nancy, it's great news about Mariah. I know how relieved you and the whole family must be. God speed to you and yours. Deneen, I'm still working on the last four pounds of our first goal. The weather got chilly and wet here so I had to take my Celebrex off and on for the last two weeks. It always makes it hard to lose. I am working out at least 5 times a week with the treadmill and the Bowflex. I forgot how sore a body can get. Gabbie, I have arthritis in my hips and shoulders but I find that when I use my Bowflex on a regular basis that my joints don't hurt near as much. Do you have a Bowflex ? Mine came with a book full of exercises for all the different parts of the body. I would take the book to your Doctor and ask him which ones he approves of for you. If he approves then you need to start out with the smallest weight and a few reps and build your way up. Don't try using the Bowflex without your Doctor's approval . I don't want you to strain or hurt your knee. I love the Bowflex. It takes about 25 minutes depending on your routine and the number of reps you do for each exercise. You get fantastic results in about six weeks time. If you don't have a book with your machine I'll be glad to send you a copy of mine. Linda, how is Ryan doing ? Did he get the job at the hospital ? Let me know how things work out for you guys. Keep my Trevor and Megan in your prayers as they will both be in Iraq over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Is anyone else having a hard time logging in ? I had to change my password several times in the last few days in order to get access to the forum. All of the grandkids had a great time trick or treating. Have a great low carb day.

Gabbie,
I pretty sure you can order a Bowflex anywhere. If you want me to I'll send you the information you need to contact the Bowflex people. You can post in my journal anytime. Lord, is it cold here today. I wish it would warm up some so I wouldn't have to take my Celebrex. I have two of the granddaughters today so I'll be busy all day. I'm going to try to exercise around 9 this morning so it's done and out of the way. I hope everyone has a great day. Denee, how are you doing with our first 10 pounds. I can't remember when we started but I think it was at least two weeks ago. I started taking Black Cohosh for my hot flashes and it seems to be helping. It's only been two days so we'll see how it goes after a week . Several of the girl's I know are taking it and they all swear that it is fantastic. Is anyone taking a Carb inhibitor ? A friend of ours takes one and she says they help alot. Got to run for now. Talk to everyone later. I almost forgot. Nancy will you post a picture of Mariah so we can all see the newest addition ?

Gabie if you go to Bowflex Power Pro you will find all the information you need about the Bowflex. It's still cold here but no rain thank goodness. I've had to take my Celebrex for my joints for the last several weeks and it's screwed up my weight loss. I'm going to stay real strict and keep my carbs down or under 20 for the next week and see if that kick starts my weight loss again.
Deneen how how are doing / I'm trying to exercise every morning around 9 so I get it done and out of the way. I find if I wait too late in the day I never get to it.

Everyone -- sorry I've not been around in a while. I've ended up with gout due to all the protein I'm eating. Now just to figure out how much I can take and still be losing.

Brenda -- will try to figure out weight loss -- have to go back and check for that date. I'm on Celebrex too -- for gout and achy me.

Nancy -- Congrats on the new GD hugs to Mom and Baby.

My latest development other than the gout is my D has a stress fracture of her tibia (large leg bone) it goes straight across the top of the bone right below her knee. No walking for at least 2 weeks and will be using a walker for at least 6 - 8 weeks. At that point DR said she should be at about 50% of her normal strength. Life has really gotten hectic so if I'm not around too much please forgive me. Will try to keep posting in my journal with updates of whatever.

Hugs to all.

Deneen, sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she gets better soon. I managed to exercise three times so far this week. I walked on my treadmill for the last three days. I walk 60 minutes everyday but today I increased my speed and walked a extra 1/2 mile. I was drenced by the time I was done but I felt good. I cleaned all day yesterday so by the time I did my treadmill I was ready for bed. I hope your gout gets better soon. Celebrex was a blessing for me but I try not to take it unless I really hurt bad. It's so hot in Arizona most of the year that I can get by most of the time without it but for several months out of the year when it rains and gets damp I'm grateful to have it. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good Morning,
I have really missed everyone.Things are settling down now that granddaughter Mariah has been born and daughter Karen's wedding is over.

What a week it has been with the wedding exactly one week to the day of Mariah's birth.

Son in law Gerald goes back to work tomorrow so I might just get some help phone calls with Kimberly on her own.

Need to get back on the low carb track once again.I am up a few pounds but nothing to stress about.I have also let up on the exercise but the funny thing is that my knee isn't bothering me.I so enjoy the WATP workouts.I will start back slowly and see how my knee feels.Sure is nice that it isn't hurting now.

I will check back later and read how everyone is doing.Haven't had a chance to read the posts in a few days.

Glad to be back and thanks for keeping the thread going.

Hi Nancy,
Glad to hear that things have calmed down for you. How was the wedding ? How is Mariah doing ? Things here are still really busy but thats normal for us. I'm going to start getting things ready for the Holidays this week. Christmas is my husbands favorite time of the year so it takes us several weeks to get everything in the yard done. I always try to get the house ready by Thanksgiving so I can help with the yard. Our grandchildren love all of the lights so it's worth all of the hard work. I 'm feeling much better after taking Black Cohosh for a week. My hot flashes are almost gone and when I do have one it's not near as bad as they use to be. I don't know what is going on with my weight loss. I've been exercising my tail off and really watching what I eat and when I weighed this morning the scales said I had gained 3 pounds. I don't know if it's the menopause or if it's a temporary weight gain due to the exercising. Got to run for now. Hope you have a great week.

Wanted to let y'all know that I added a picture of granddaughter Mariah to my picture gallery.Digital cameras are so nice since you can share pictures so readily.

Brenda...sorry to hear that you gained after all of your hard work. That can be so frustrating.
The wedding was so nice. Thanks for asking. It was held at a church at 6 PM Saturday evening. The subdued lighting had the church looking so nice.Grandson Jeremy was suppose to be the ring bearer but at the last minute balked. His Auntie Karen was a little disappointed but understood.I did all of the planning for the reception with a little help from daughter Karen. It was my biggest undertaking ever and went off without a hitch.I am so thankful for my sister and niece's help during the reception.Daughter Kimberly couldn't attend the wedding since she is still recuperating from her c-section and Mariah not being allowed out of the house till she is 2 months old except for her check ups.Since she is a preemie and so small her pediatrician doesn't want her exposed to all of the illnesses that might be going around.

hi there everyone
i haven't been on here too much the last couple of weeks, my oldest son who lives in the northwest territories was here for 9days and we had a good visit, he and his daughter will be back at christmas. then last week i was sick with a cold and up to today i still don't feel great but at least i'm not using up a box of kleenex a day;) i did manage to get some walking in but no WATP or biking. i had a drs. appt today, my lab test for thyroid says it back to normal (that's with taking meds) so that is an improvement since last april. then there is my weight!! eventhough i have lost nearly 20 lbs since the end of july (which i gained on vacation) i still weigh more than my last visit to him so he gave me quite the lecture and wanted to send me to a dietician and i told him no, as all they want you to do is low fat and low calorie and starve yourself. once again i made my belief in LOW carb, not no carb known, he responded with "but calories do count so you shouldn't be eating huge steaks" i was so frustrated when i left his office i could have screamed and he wants me back in 3 months this time instead of the usual 6. he is actually a great doctor in all respects except the weight issue. as you maybe can guess he is not overweight and is even a little on the thin side. oh well i know his concern is for my health issues which are mostly weight related--sorry for the rant, over now:)
my family and i will be attending remembrance day services tomorrow. as a cadet my granddaughter will be part of the service. both my dad and mom were 2nd world war veteran's so it is something we like to be a part of each year in their memory.

Hi Jes,
Sorry you've been having such a hard time especially with your Doctor. The last couple of weeks have been really fristrating for me with my weight too. If you want to you can join me and Deneen. We've decided to work on 10 pounds at a time. I was doing really good until the weather turned wet and chilly here. I've had to take my Celebrex everyday and it works against weight loss. Maybe by Monday you'll be feeling better and you can start new. My Doctor wasn't crazy about Low Carb either at first but she changed her mind after she saw my blood work several months ago. Hang in there and have a great weekend.

Great!! We decided to go for small goals instead of looking at the total amount of weight we have to loss. I've found I can stay focused on a small goal much better. I gained three pounds in the last couple of weeks but my Doctor says it is most likely due to all of the exercise I'm doing. Your muscles tend to swell and hold fluid for a few weeks when you start on a heavy exercise plan. I have 45 pounds I still want to lose. I weigh 185 right now. Get everything ready and start Monday. We just try to be supportive of each other and try to exercise at least three to four times a week. I use my treadmill and Bowflex a couple of times a week. This last week I didn't get to exercise at all because we were helping our daughter and son-in-law set up their new toy store. We have spent hour after hour pricing and sorting toys so we can stock the store in the next few weeks. We hope to be open by Thanksgiving. We have been working really long hours and needless to say I haven't been good about my carbs. You mentioned that your daughter was a cadet. Is she in ROTC ? My husband teaches Air Force ROTC. He is a retired Chief Master Sgt. and my youngest son is in the Army. The whole family is coming over for Thanksgiving along with my daughter's in-laws. My oldest son and daughter-n-law are both on Atkins and so are the in-laws so I'm making low carb as much as possible. Instead of green bean casserold I'm making a big pot of fresh greens beans. I'm going to use the low carb bread for my stuffing and I got a low carb pecan pie recipe off the low carb cooking show on the TV . We're going to deep fry a Turkey and bake a ham. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Got to go and get some work done. Monday start with exercise and keeping carbs at 20 or less. If you need to talk I'm always here. Deneen, how are you doing ? I hope your Ok. Have a great Holiday.

good morning all,

brenda-it's my granddaughter that is in cadets, she is 17 and a sgt in the royal canadian air cadets, she started out in army cadets at 13 then switched to air 3 yrs ago. she's been talking lately about going to military college but who knows kids change their minds alot at this age. is your son in a position where he might see active duty or is he currently overseas? sounds like you will have a great thanksgiving day planned with an LC menu that sounds good.

my weigh in day is always sunday morning and i was 223 this morning, down half a pound since last sunday. my only exercise this week was walking a few days. i plan on getting back to my routine of exercise and fitday entries, supplements and regular reporting.
have a good week everyone

Jes,
My son was with 101 Airborne when we went into Iraq. He spent the first year of the war going from one hot spot to another. It was a very long and anxious year for our family. Our son had serious doubts about going inot Iraq at first but after he was there he told us he knew in his heart we were doing the right thing. He and his wife will both be in Iraq over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I wish they were back in Germany where they would both be safe but they both want to do this. Your granddaughter sounds like a very level headed young woman. I'm sure she will make the right decision on her school. Monday is always my weigh in day. I'm going to start back on my treadmill this week and watch my carbs really close. Good luck this week!

Hey Brenda,

Sorry I've been so flaky lately. Just went back through the thread and still don't know when we started the 10 pound thingie so I think I'll start counting mine all over again. Really hate it as I has a couple of good losses in the past several weeks but that just gives me the incentive to work harder (I hope). Haven't got much time tonight but hope to post more tomorrow. Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving ! Our house was full as usual. We deep fried a Turkey this year and everyone loved it. I hope everyone stayed on track or didn't stray too far off. We've been really busy with all of the kids and thier families so hopefully starting Monday things will get back to normal.
Nancy I'm glad to hear that Mariah and her Mommy are doing good. It is hard to believe that she's a month old. I hope the stress level has gone back to normal for you . I tried several new recipes on Thanksgiving. I made a Praline Pumpkin Pie and a Maple Pecan Pie. Both were low carb and both were really good. I'm going to make a few minor changes to the Maple Pecan but the Praline was fantastic just the way it is. If anyone wants the recipes just let me know.
Deneen how are you and Jes doing ? It's been chilly but beautiful here. Hope everyone has a great weekend . I'll check in again on MOnday.

Hello friends,

One holiday down and one to go. I went off the low-carb about a week ago when my employer did the T-day dinner for all employees. Ever since I have been "stuffed" and "sick" from all the carbs. I have to go off every once in a while to appreciate the healthy feeling I have on the low carb diet. I can't believe sugar and carbs can make you feel so unhealthy. I have to wean down off the diet coke too!

Brenda, your recipes sound wonderful. I would love to have the two pie recipes if you are willing to share. I could plan ahead for Christmas. No sugar or carbs for me this Christmas. Hope I didn't gain weight. I'm afraid to get on the scale. I gain so easily.

Let's keep at it girls!! Low-carb all the way!!!

Linda

Brenda, Ryan is doing much better and the medical discharge is in the process. How is your family?

Linda, I'm so happy that things are working out for Ryan. The family is great. We are all really busy trying to get the new store opened by the 10th so we don't miss out on the Christmas season but we're getting there. My house is finally quite and it's just me and my hubby. I love having a large family but after a few days it takes it's toll. I got back on tract this morning with my low carb. I did pretty good most of the Holiday but I still need to be really strict from now on. My daughter-in-law has been doing Atking for a few months and she has gone from a size 3x to a size 16. I'm so proud of her and my oldest son is losing now that she is working with him. I can hardly weight to see them both at Christmas.
Deneen. I've lost 4 pounds of the 10 we were working on. I had lost more but I screrwed it up. Back on track today and I'm going to see how much I can drop my Christmas.
Linda here is the Praline Pie recipe. My whole family loved this.

Praline Pumpkin Pie

Praline Crust:
2 tablespoons of hot melted butter
1/2 cup of finely chopped pecans
1/2 cup of Splenda
1/8 teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Pie filling:
1 (15 ounce ) can pumpkin puree
3/4 cup Splenda
1 tablespoon plus a dash of pumpkin pie spice
1 1/4 cups of heavy cream
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Make the crust. Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. While the mixture is still warm from the butter press it evenly into the bottom of a deep dish pie pan. Bake for 5 minutes or until browned. Remove from the oven.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees,

Make the filling. Place all of the ingredients into a medium bowl and mix well with a wire whisk. Pour the filling into the pie crust. Bake for 15 minutes and then reduce the oven temperture to 350. Continue to bake for an additional 50 to 55 minutes. To test for doneness, stick a toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean it's done.

Cool and chill before serving. Serve with whipped cream. This is fantastic!!!

Carbs 7
Fiber 1 Total Net Carbs 6 grams

Serves 12 people
It served eight for my family so the carb count is more like eight for a larger serving but it is well worth the added to two carbs. Let me know what you think when you try this.

Hi Jes, How are things going ? I probably wont get to exercise today since I'm babysitting four of my grandchildren. I usually get plenty of exercise when I have several of the kids. Adam is 6 months, Josh is 3, Julia is 2 1/2 , and Chealsie will be 6 on the 10th. I'm always exhausted by the end of the day but I really have alot of fun with them.
Hey Deneen, glad to hear that you are doing OK. Hope you and and your family have a great Christmas. Going to see how much weight I can lose by Christmas. I'm going to Germany this summer to visit my son and daughter-in-law and I want to lose as much weight as I can by then. Got to run for now but I hope to hear from everyone later. Have a great day.

Hi Everyone,
Linda here is the recipe for the Maple Pecan Pie.

Crust:
1/2 cup of finely ground blanched almonds
1/4 cup of Atkins Bake Mix
3 packets of sugar substitute
1/2 stick of melted butter

Filling:

2 cups of Atkins Sugar Free Pancake Syrup
4 eggs
4 1/2 Tablespoons of Splenda
5 tablespoons butter, melted and slightly cooled
1 teaspon of vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of pecan pieces

Heat the oven to 350. Mix ground nuts, bake mix, and sugar substitute in a large bowl. Stir in the butter with a fork.Chill crumb mixture for 20 minutes. With your fingertips press the crumb mixture on the bottom and sides of a 9" pie plate. Bake for 7 minutes or until browned and set. Remove from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 375.

For the filling, bring the Atkins sryup to a simmer in a sauce pan. Cook for 10 minutes, remove from heat, cool to room temperature.

In a large bowl, whisk eggs, splenda, melted butter and extract. Whisk in sryup. Add pecan pieces and combine well. Pour the mixture into the pie crust and bake for 20 minutes or until the edges are frim. The center will be a little quivery. Transfer to a wire rack and cool.

I thought there was too much pecan so the next time I make this I'm going to use about 1/2 and see what happenes. This is really good whith whipped cream on top. Let me know what you think. I also used a faux sweet potatoe casserole recipe that my family loved. I hope everyone is doing good . Deneen and Jes, I hope you are both doing good on our 10 pounds at a time challenge. Watch out because I'm going to work hard to catch up and lose the first ten. Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi All,

Brenda -- the above recipes sound great -- might have to try them for Christmas as now my DH(at home) and my SIL and DD are trying Atkins. Took them long enough didn't it. Oh Yeah -- have dropped to 226 another 2 pounds down. I'm down 6.5 from my restart weight. Hope all is going well for you. My DD finally got to go back to work this past Monday --- leg still hurts but she's limping along as well as can be expected.

Jes -- How are you doing on the 10 pounds at a time challenge? Time is short tonight as it's almost time to close down for the night.

The carb count on the Pecan pie is 5.5 net carbs per slice and it serves 8. The carb count on the Praline Punkin Pie is 6 net carbs and it serves 12. If you serve 8 the carb count is 8. I like the Pumpkin Pie the best but both are fantastic. Let me know what you think. Have a great day !!

good morning ladies,

welcome sweet angie, i hope you enjoy our little group and good luck with your exercise goal. i am 65, single, 3 children, 2 teen-age grandauhters, took early-retirement at 55 for health related reasons. in the last 10 yrs with diet, exercise, medication and reduced stress my health has improved greatly. i still have to work at it all the time but it is was i do now. i follow the protein power plan and try to get in a cardio exercise tape, stationery biking and walking 5 times a week. some weeks i'm more successful at it than others;)

i am currently working on 3 challenges--christmas challenge, 10 weeks to new years and the one on this thread-"lose the first 10 lbs" which i started nov 21 at 223.5 at my weigh in this morning i am 217.5 which means i am now down 6lbs since i started this challenge. my christmas challenge goal was 30lbs but with only just over 2 weeks to go i won't make it but i am sure happy with the 19.5 i have lost and should be able to make 20lbs gone.

i have been quite busy the last while, as i'm sure you all are, christmas shopping, i have had my 17 yr old granddaughter for the past week while her mother was out of town, although she doesn't require the same kind of looking after that you with young ones do there is a lot of driving here and there, school activities, cadets, youth group and social activities, extra cooking etc but i do enjoy having her here. i have also been very busy scanning all the photographs taken since last christmas and once they are all scanned i burn them on cd's and every one in the family get's one for christmas, i am up to july now and of course there are a ton of vacation pics but i should be done by the end of next week and then i take some of the pic's, newspaper clippings of activities my 17 yr old GD has been involved in and memorabilia from our vacation and make her a scrapbook of the past year. i have done this every year since she was 6. so with 2 weeks to go i am getting a little panicky. on the 20th my son from yellowknife and his 14 yr old daughter are arriving. they haven't been here for christmas since 92 and i haven't seen my 14 yr old granddaughter for almost 3yrs so i am really looking forward to their being here.

my exercise program has taken a beating except for i have walked either 60 or 30 mins every day since i last reported on nov 22. i now walk indoors at the local college.the city in conjunction with the college has a senior walking program which allows seniors to go into the college between 8am and 8pm and walk the hallways, it sure beats walking the icy streets. i have also shovelled snow for either 30 or 40 mins several times in the last 2 weeks.
well i hope you are all enjoying preparing for the holidays and i better get started on some of my projects. have a good week everyone.

Good Morning,
The Praline Pumpkin Praline Pie reciepe is on page 93. You have to try it. It's Fantastic !!! Let me know if you find the recipe , if you don't I'll repost it for you. Jes, it was great hearing from you. You sound as busy as me. I got all the Christmas decorating finally finished yesterday and I'm almost finished with shopping for the grandkids. The adults are always hard to buy for. Most of the people in this family don't really need anything so I'm always hunting for something they will enjoy. They all tell me not to buy anything for them but thats not going to happen. We are actluay having a much smaller Christmas this year due to the size of our family. It just seems to keep getting bigger. I wish our youngest son could be home for Christmas but he and his wife are in Germany. I thank God everyday that their deployment to Iraq was canceled. My son has already spent over a year in Iraq and I know he will have to go back but I'm glad it wont be over the Christmas Holiday. Got to run for now. Nancy, Jes, Sweet Angie, and Musicmama, I hope you all have a great day.

Deneen,
OK woman, I've caught up with you and Jes. I weighed in yesterday and I've lost the couple of pounds I had gained so we are all neck and neck. MY grandchildren went home today so I start back on my treadmill. Believe it or not I think taking care of my 6 month old grandson along with his 3 year old brother and his 6 and 2 year old cousins for four days is what did it. I've never been so tired in my life. I'm going shopping today with a friend so I'll get alot of walking in. I'm back on track and I'm feeling so much better. I've decided that my New Year resolution is going to be to take more time for myself. I spend most of my time doing for someone else and I spend very little time on me. My husband is constantly telling me to do more for myself but I always feel quilty when I do. Well, got to run for now. I hope everyone has a great day.

Hey Kerri, I know how it feels to lose slowly. I'm right in the middle of perri menopause. The hot flashes are geting better but trying to lose weight is a constant fight. I have to be really strict all of the time and keep my carbs to 20 or less. Can you use a treadmill ? If so, start out a few minutes at a time and before you known it yuou'll be going for longer periods. You don't have to walk fast. If you can't use a treadmill just take a short walk or walk standing in place to some of your favorite music. We're thrilled to have you join us ! Well, my son-in-law and daughter finally got the store opened up yesterday. They were swamped 20 minutes after opening the doors. Maybe now my daughter can get some rest, not to mention the fact that my house can get back to nornal. Got tons to do today so I guess I had better get to it. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi everyone, I found this site about a year ago but just cruised, didn't join in. Since I haven't been able to lose by myself and found a lot of useful info in the last few days (I have spent hours and Hours and HOURS and... reading messages), I thought it was time to join in.

I am a 57 soon to be 58 and a gandmother of three wonderful grandchilren. I have have just passed my first test to become a real estate agent (I got tired of sitting behind a desk) so I am changing careers for the second time in ten years.

ArizonaB, where and what kind of store are you opening? I'm located here in the Verde Valley.

Musicmama, I love reading your messages. I'm 57 and have had a hard time all my life keeping my weight under control. But I also have to admit that I blamed my weight for many things, including not feeling good most of the time and not being able to stay on a diet. Turns out I have allergies, intolerances and other medical problems. I often wondered how others could be overweight too and not feel so tired and miserable all the time.

Kerri4heal, in reading the different threads I find that people are very supportive here. Sometimes it really takes someone who's been walking in our shoes to keep us in the direction we need to go.

I gues that's quite an introduction. I need to get back to recipes to make some things I can eat. A lot of the ready-made low carb products have gluten in them which I can't have.

Thanks for the welcome, musicmama. I have to tell you that after I got off the 'puter last night I was so cold and hungry that I blew it. I ate some soup I made just before I went to RE school. It shoudn't have been bad since it was a low carb recipe--except at the time I thought I would go low cal so I used CANNED MILK. After that, the ice cream--not bad, low carb, so was the milk and cream that I have to have on it. But I was still hungry so out came the tortillas, cheese, sour cream and salsa. I gues that was the really bad thing.

Today is another day which is good but I'm tired of starting over and over and over again--and this time seems especially hard.

I am a grazer, so if anyone has any ideas for warm snacks, drinks or SOMETHING to get me from breakfast to dinner, I'd appreciate it.

BTW Where would we be if we didn't fight it. Thanks for the reminder

i hope you all have a good week, stay on course, take time for yourself and try to get some exercise even a few minutes a day

Ladies, What a great response we have had this week! Welcome to all our new friends ! JAnn I can't count how many times I have had to start over for the very same reasons you listed. Don't give up ! Now, here's what you need to do. First off pick a day that you are going to start. Then you clean out all of the stuff that will get in your way. Make sure you have cheese sticks, pork rines, Chicken wings or drunsticks , olives, etc. No low carb ice cream for the first two weeks. Have plenty of sugar free jello and whip cream in the frig. Once your stocked with all you need get your Atkins book down and make sure it's in clear sight so you can get to it at all times. You can join Jes, musicmama, deneen, nancy and all the rest of us at working on 10 pounds at a time. If you need encouragement or help thats what we are for. Before it's all over and done you will make plenty of mistakes just like us. The key is to stay focused on your goal and know that you are not alone. Make sure you drink lots of water and it will curve your appetite. If you are getting hungery then you aren't eating enough protein. You will probably have cravings for the first couple of days but they will go away !!
Kerri, there are alot of exercises you can do setting down. I'm doing some research for you. Hang in there. The more weight you lose the better your ankles will feel. I have terrible arthritis in my hips and my hands. I thought I was going to die when I first started on my treadmill. I could only walk for like 5 or 6 minutes. I can go 60 minutes now as long as I don't walk too fast.
Jes, you , me and Deneen are all just about neck and neck on the first 10 pounds.I haven't lost any more but I haven't gained any either. I cheated yesterday so I'm drinking tons of water today and doing my treadmill.
Diane, welcome to our little group. The holidays are a little harder than most of the time but just get back on track. Don't beat yourself up over messing up. The great thing about low carb is you can always start over and have great success .
Nancy how is the baby ? I hope the family is doing good. Have a great Holiday. Linda, How is Ryan? Trevor called me yesterday and told me he's going back to Iraq. I hate this war ! He wasn't certain if it would be before Christmas but he wanted me to be prepared. I try very hard to sound positive for my son but how in hell can a Mother prepare for her son going to war .The first year of this war was hell for the family . I don't even want to think about going through another year with him in Iraq. It looks like the good Lord is going to be busy listening to me . Well, got to run for now and get my work done so I can get on my treadmill. JAnn I'm going through all my recipes so I can find things for you to keep handy. I have quite a few so it may take me a couple of days but I'll post them for you. Have a great day ladies.

JAnn, my daughter and her husband just opened a Learning Express Store at Athem, Arizona. My husband says he thinks your about 30 minutes from them. If you get a chance stop by the store and tell Jeff or Vicki Morgan that their Mom Brenda sent you. The store is full of all kinds of great educational stuff for kids of all ages. My husband and I live in Surprise, Arizina. We decided to retire here when my husband retired frim the Air Force 7 years ago. The warm weather is great for my arthritis, although the last couple of weeks have been really cold for us. Hope to hear from you soon.

Brenda, I will be praying for your son also. I know a little bit about how it feels to have a son away like that. My oldest son left home when he was 16, he is 40 now and I have only heard from him about 5 times since then. I never know where he is, or how he is. Someone asked me how I stand it,,,I told them, I just have to trust the Lord to take care of him for me. We will do the same for yours!
Well, I lost 5 pounds last week!!! So far, so good!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. MY DH and I have never been junk food junkies and pretty much cleared out our cupboards years ago. Peanut butter and popcorn are the closest things we have to junk food and I don't care much for either.

Ice cream is my weakness. My favorite is Blue Bunny mint. When my blood sugar drops or my stomach is upset it seemsto be the quickest way to making me feel better. The cold and mint, I think. Also, it has to have milk or cream on it. I hate pork rinds. Ate too many of them on the first Atkins diet years ago. I seem to lose ten pounds (the last time 15) and then stall. Suggestions in the Atkins book didn't work but in going through the different threads I see possibilities of changes I may need to make. I wonder if I need to cut down on the cream. I LOVE cream.

ArizonaB, I have three grandchildren who need to be seriously challenged so I look forward to stopping at the store. Is it at the outlet stores, across the street or across the freeway? Inquiring (and lost) minds want to know.

Thanks for the encouragement, I am going to do it this time with your help. I was like you JAnn, I stalled for about 3 months then I weakened and the weight started creeping up slowly at first then pow!! :o

My prayers for your son Brenda, I know that must be so hard on you. I like you hate this war.

musicmama you are one strong woman. Isn't it nice the Lord comforts us through all kinds of bad things in our life. Way to go 5 lbs.

Arizona I need to move there for my arthritis....getting old hurts.

jes you did great with your exercise. I went to Wally World this morning and make an extra trip around the store since I didn't get to go to Curve's. I keep my DGS2 and DHB has gone hunting so I don't have a babysitter.

All the sweets and junk have vacated the premises.

How do you get those cute little graphics on your messages? I have no computer smarts.

JAnn, the store is not at the outlet. It's across the freeway right inside the front entrance of Athem to the left in the small shopping mall. Make sure you tell my son and daughter that I sent you and where you live. Maybe they will give you a good discount. I got sick of pork rines too. Try this as a snack. Buy a package of American Deluxe cheese slices. Cut each slice in four squares. Cut a piece of parchment paper the size of the microwave plate in your microwave. Place the cheese squares around the outside of the plate far enough apart that they don't run together. All microwaves are different but I cook mine for 55 seconds on high or just uintil the cheese starts to brown a little. Take them out and let them cool for a few seconds before you remove them from the paper. Store them in a air tight container in the frig. They are .5 carbs for 4 squares. They are really good ! I also keep hard boiled eggs, ham salad, chicken salad, low carb peanut butter, egg salad and radishes on hand. Radishes are crunchy and seem to satisfy me better than pork rines. You can also make Lacy Parmesan Crisps and keep them on hand. If you want the recipe just let me know. I have a great Faux Mac and Cheese recipe that I make up and keep on hand for my husband. It is really fantastic and is only 6 carbs a cup. Do you like cream cheese? I make stuffed celery sticks for my husband out of cream cheese, salad shrimp, a little chopped green onion and chives. If you want the recipe I'll post it for you. They are really good and are only 1 carb per serving. I use heavy cream in my coffee in the morning along with a packet of sweet and low. I always stall after three or four weeks. I found that if I change my excercise routine from the treadmill to swimming in the pool or using our Bowflrx that it always jump starts me again. Let's face it, It's harder to lose the older we get. Menopause sure doesn't help either. I'll keep looking for good snacks and post them as I find them. Have a great day and I hope you get to go by the store.

Thanks for the good thoughts for my son ladies. If it wasn't for my faith I'd had gone crazy the first year my son was in Iraq. I pray everyday that people come to their senses and this awful war ends. We are very proud of our son and I for one can hardly wait for his enlistment to be over so he will come home and settle near the family with his wonderful wife. Musicmama did I give you the recipe for the faux Mac and Cheese ? You got to give it a try. My husband loves it !!

ArizonaB, I will check the store out the next time I go to Phx. Of course now that they have the new shopping center in Prescott there doesn't seem to be as much need to go to the big city.

I just bought some celery and already have stuffed it with cream cheese but I like your additions. I'm going to try the cheese squares but with cheddar--can't stand American cheese, it always leaves a chemical taste. Also the Parmesan chips and Mac 'n cheese. Just remember nothing with gluten in it. I allow myself one cup of coffee in the morning generously laced with cream and Splenda. Any more than that and the coffee upsets my system and I don't get enough water down either. I also saw a recipe in a low carb mag for tuna stuffed eggs I'm going to try.

Part of my problem with losing weight I think is lack of exercise. In Alaska we usually went swimming at least once a week from Sept. thru May. My big heartbreak down here is no year round pools. I started last summer in June, then came the monsoons and lightening in July so didn't get to go often, then school started the first of August and they changed their schedule where I couldn't go. We bought a 10 pass and didn't even get to use it up. What a bummer!

Nanny4, I think we'll burn up our computers comforting each other when we hit those stalls! :agree:

ArizonaB, my thoughts are with you. I no longer need to worry about my sons and my grandsons are too young. Besides I think our family suffered enough in Desert Storm.

Have any of you been to MyVirtualModel.com? You can build your model so you can see what clothes look like on you. Very depressing :tears: but motivating.

You should be proud of your self Music, I am afraid I would not have been that strong, in fact I know I wouldn't. My biggest problem is sweets, I would rather eat them then food. :help:

I did pretty good yesterday, but over indulged on beef sticks, darn I love those things. I didn't drink my water so today I have got to drink tons of it. I am not in the habit yet of drinking water, would much rather have a diet D.Pepper.

Bbl after everybody wakes up, I am such a early riser. I can't sleep past 4 am, must be the menopause thing.

i am just the opposite!! I am usually going to bed around 4 AM!! Again, the menopause thing!! LOL
I have a real hard time with the water too,,,it literally gags me to drink it without lemon and sweetener in it, I would rather have a diet pop anytime!
Well, off to WalMart to stand in line at the layaway department,,,,wonder if that burns calories???
Catch ya later!!!

JAnn , my husband was in Dessert Storm and for the next three years after that he spent 6 months out of every year in Kuwait. I told him it was time to retire and let the young ones take over. The last time my husband got home from kuwait I didn't recognize him so I decided enough was enough. In some ways I think it was harder on my husband than it was on me when our youngest son went to Iraq. It was the first time my husband was on the worrying end of things. He was always the one gone and in danger. This time he had to stay back and wait.
There is no way I'm going to virtualmodel. I would get way too depressed and besides like music there would be no models with gray hair and glasses. Music you have fantastic will power. I'm damn proud of you. I just got finished with my treadmill. I only walked 50 minutes today because I'm so sore from yesterday. Hope everyone has a great day !

Hey Music, I just got on line researching recipes. Found a place where everyone was talking about using radishes for hashbrown potatoes. Everyone loved them and said they taste just like the real thing. They said you just chop them up and fry them with a little onion. Some of the people used bacon bits and garlic with them as well. Use plain red radishes. One lady said she roasted them just like you would potatoes and vegetables with some olive oil and seasonings, and they were fantastic. I'm going to try making some tonight with some pork chops. I'll let you know how it comes out. I'm not going to walk on my treadmill today. I think I over did it the last few days. I bent down to pick up my granddaughter yesterday afternoon and I felt a horrible pain in my lower back so I'm going to take it easy today. I've lost 3 lbs. since Monday. II'm being really careful to keep my carbs at 20 or under for the next several months. I was up and down last night with hot flashes. I'll be so glad when this is over. I think these darn hot flashes have gone away and then they come back with a vengence. Sounds like you had a really nice day yesterday. It's nice to know that there are still kind people out there. Well. guess I better go for now. I'm going to male some low carb lemon squares for my hubby. Have a great day !!

Hey, that sounds greeat!! I will have to try that! Lemme know how it turns out. Hubby was talking yesterday about how much weight he has gained recently with all the holiday parties and banquets and pitch ins, so he is gonna start LC in January, right after our anniversary the 7th. He loves potatoes, so that might be a good alternative for him.
I went shopping at the mall last night with my daughter and 2 teen grandkids, for party outfits. We walked for hours,,,thought for sure I would have a loss today. I lost inches, cause my skirt is really loose, but the scale says the same. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, right!! Who cares what the scael says as long as I can wear smaller clothes..LOL:lol:
Im baking again today,,,freezing cookies for the party next week. Its funny how it doesnt bother me to bake. Wonder why. Cause my mind is made up maybe??;)
You better take it easy, that low back stuff is nothing to play around with. Been there, done that! And I been fighting the hot flashes for years, You are right, when you think they are gone,,,they come back worse than ever. Its wierd, I just went last month and had bloodwork done and the doc told me my hormone levels were normal, I dont even neend HRT!!! I took em for years, and now they are ok. Strange...but okay with me. My main problem has been not being able to sleep. so I find myself surfing the forums at 2 in the morning sometimes! Oh well, Im learning lots of stuff...
Well, better go start as load of laundry and heat the oven, ....check back later.....

Good afternoon....
Arizona I have to try that receipe with the radishes, sounds delicious. The problem I have with low carb is finding enough variety of foods to eat, seems like we have the same thing over and over. You take care of that back, I have sciatic nerve problems and I believe it is from picking up Grandson so much, and maybe getting old.

Music when you are surfing the web at 2 am holler at me for I am right here too. I have gotten where I can't sleep past 3 or 4 am, it drives me nuts. Usually by noon I am pooped and ready for a nap. I wish I could say I was wearing smaller clother. :o That is such a good feeling isn't it?

I am out of here going to go fix some bacon and eggs for supper tonight, I need to get to the store baddddd.

Hi all! Nanny4, I spent the most of the day yesterday (and the day before and the day before and...) surfing the internet for low carb recipes. My favorite food group is veggies, can you believe that? :daze:

One of my favorite sites that I found was Linda's Low Carb Menues and Recipes. I don't know the URL. She not only has lots of variety in her recipes but they are ones she has tried and tells you what she and her family think of them. She also has pictures with a lot of them which makes it easy to see if they appeal or not. Our local grocer here has broccoli on sale for .49 a pound and she has some good looking broccoli recipes so I expect to be in broccoli heaven! :yum:

Hey Deneen, Way to go ! You beat me by 2 pounds. I weigh in Monday and iIll let you know how I'm doing.
Keep up the good work. Jes, hang in there we're going to catch her sooner or later. Music, I think we all stall around the third or forth week. Inches are just as good as weight loss. Hell, you deserve a metal for not eating all those cookies !! Ladies I cooked a Yucca Root yesterday . I was told it taste just like potatoe. I have to tell you it taste fantastic !!!! It cooks just like potato and has a buttery taste to it. I chucked it up in cubes and pre boiled it until it was fork tender. I made a potato, pork chop casserole with it. Ladies you have to try this. Not only does it taste great but it's good for arithritis, stomach problems, and believe it or not it keeps you regular. I'm going to fry some radishes today for my husband and I'll let you know how it comes out. Try the yucca root in place of potato in your next roast. Got to run for now . Got tons to do today. Again, Denenn, we are all really proud of you !!!

Hey Ladies, I just checked the carb count on the Yucca Root. It is very high, so save it for special occasions. The lady that told me to try it has been doing Atkins for over two years so I just assumed it was low carb. It is fantastic but I wouldn't use it it except on rare occasions. I'll let you know how the radish hash browns turn out later.

good morning ladies,
my weigh in was this morning and i'm down .5lbs so that makes 6.5lbs toward "10 pounds at a time"
i just spoke to my son in yellowknife northwest territories, he and his 14yr old daughter are coming here for christmas. he will drive 12-14 hrs today on a mostly desolate secondary highway and reach a small town on the alaska highway in british columbia stay overnight there and then leave tomorrow morning for another 12 hr drive on the alaska highway and hopefully be here by late tomorrow night. he is a good driver with a good vehicle but this time of the year you never know what it will be like coming through the mountains, he tells me not to worry and he will contact me along the way but i will worry until i see the whites of their eyes coming through my front door;)
hope everbody is managing to get all their holiday preparations done without too much stress. have a good week

But ya know what...its the holidays, that was a special occasion, and Im not giving up my WOE just because I cheated!!;)
I will make it through this week, and then, there will be no fancy once a year goodies to tempt me, just the same old stuff. So, Im not beating myself up over it,,,like Scarlett O Hara said,,,tomorrow is another day!!!:agree:
Hope your son made it okay!! We just heard on the radio that we have a winter storm moving in,,,7-10 inches before its all over! And its bitter cold here, supposed to be -5 Christmas day!! Starts tomorrow night after midnight.
Thats okay, I am retired now, and dont have to drive to work in the snow, so I can sit home and drink hot tea and look out the window at all the folks who do!!

Hi,

Is it too late to join the group? I'm 53 and having a very hard time losing. I need to get back into exercise - we finally finished the remodeling enough to unearth my treadmill so I can use it again. Have an injury to my right arm, so weights are out until it heals. I've fallen off the wagon very badly, regained lost weight, and need to get back on track. Any advice/encouragement is very welcome.

DH and I are helping care for his father (has Parkinson's and colon cancer), my mother (she is a complete invalid being cared for by my father at home, but we help out), and are raising an 11 year old grandson who is very active in sports, band, and Scouts. So, it gets very hectic driving him about to practice and games nearly every night and weekend, and it also gets very lonely. We don't relate well to people our own age because we have an 11 year old and their children are all grown. We actually have a lot in common with people the age of our oldest daughter (30), but don't really fit in with that age group either. So, it would be nice to chat with someone my own age who can relate to the difficulty of losing weight when you get older, and maybe find some good tips.

My New Year's resolution is the get back on track with healthy, low carb eating; exercise; and do whatever it takes to get and stay healthy.

Mon, Dec-27-04, 12:51
Welcome Carmen!! You will find you fit in here perfectly! I am a grandmother to 14, all ages, but am only 57 and my hubby is 41, so we have a hard time finding the right group to hang out with too. But here on the forums, everybody can find a place!
I have gained back 7 pounds in the last week,,,thanks to all the Christmas cookies, eggnog, and ham! Back on plan today though!
Christmas is behind me, and now there is no excuse not to stick to the program! I can do this! You can too,,one day, one pound , at a time!:agree:

Thanks for the great welcome! I also plan to get back on track no later than January 1. I think the main thing I need to do to stay on track is to change my goal from losing a specific number of pounds to just getting fit and eating healthy. If the pounds come off, that's great, but if they don't I won't be disappointed because, as in the past, I'm doing everything right but still don't lose the weight. I won't be inclined to give up because I'm not meeting my goals if my goals are to just eat healthy and be active and fit. I know I can do that because I've done it before. Does that make sense?

musicmama
Tue, Dec-28-04, 12:35
Makes good sense! I really want to lose the weight, but mostly want to be healthy and feel better. I have lost dear friends who died very early due to poor health and obesity, and it has scared me into doing something. I feel so much better on this WOE, that its the best choice for me.So, my goal is to stay healthy, and lose weight too.
We can do this....:agree:

Welcome Carmen and Mrs. McCree. Carmen I know how you feel about raising the young ones. My DH and I are helping our SIL with his 3 kids, 5, 8, and 12. Yesterday I took them skating with all the other young mothers! My 5 year old wanted me out on the floor to help her standup. I thought I'm too d***** old to be doing this!

Friday they were with their mother so went on a hike with a group--everyone younger of course. Climbed up the side of a rocky mtn just to look down on a natural bridge--and I'm terrified of heights! :exclm: Of course we had to climb down again. Fell, ripped my new jeans  but managed to make it down in one piece otherwise. I was soooo tired and exhausted. Then went to a friend's house for chili and garlic bread--not LC. Thought all the hiking might cause my weight to drop--NOT. Now I'm up everything I lost so need to start all over again.

Took my real estate exam Monday--and passed. It was exhausting and Flagstaff at 7000 feet gave me a headache but at least that's over with. :yay:

Now back to the goals of exercising and LCing. Now if I could just learn not to like cream. :yum:

Pardon all the smilies but its the only art I can do!!

Hey Music, good to see your still here. I haven't had time to check in for a few days. I also gained a few pounds over the Holiday. Welcome Carmen, you will find all of the support you need from the ladies on this site. MrsCee welcome to you as well. The more the merrier. Starting Jan. 1st Hubby and I are going on strict induction. Hubby doesn't need to but he is going to help me tons by doing it with me. I've been sick with the flu for the last few days so I've taken medicine and cough drops that I know have sugar in them but it couldn't be helped. I'm feeling better today so hopefully by the weekend I'll be make to normal. My son and daughter-in-law were in Iraq over Christmas so the Holiday was a very stressful time for me. I'm thrilled to report that they are both back in Germany safe and sound. I'm a nervous eater so you can imagine how much I ate I shouldn't have. The weather here is rainy and cold. Everyone has the flu or a bad cold since Arizona is usually warm most of the year. I hope everyone had a great Holiday, but it's time now for us all to get focused and back to the business of getting fit. Everyone who hasn't already done so needs to clear the house of all food that aren't allowed. Stock the frig with cheese, boiled eggs, chichen wings, drumsticks, ham salad, chicken salad, egg salad, pork rines, etc. Most important of all is drink your water !! Exercise on my treadmill starts again on the 1st. I've found it's easier for me not to start in the middle of the week or on a weekend. I pick a day a few days off and it gives me time to get everything in order. One day at a time ladies. Music, I sliced turnips really thin last night and fried them like potaro chips for my hubby. They were pretty good. I also made a low carb clam chowder recipe with my daughter-in-law over the Holidays that was fantastic!!. If you want the recipe let me know and I'll post it for you. Today is my husband's 50th Birthday so I'm taking him to his favorite resturant. It's really easy to eat low carb when it's seafood so I'm looking forward to it. Hope everyone has a great day and welcome to all of our new friends. Carmen, you will fit right in with all of us !!

Arizona B, you're right about seafood making it easy to low carb! I've already stocked the freezer with salmon, cod, tilapia, and shrimp! This time of year in Wisconsin is so BORING! I get hungry for fresh, grilled foods and being able to walk outside - and for real sunshine! I got snowshoes for Christmas 2 years ago, but we still have not had enough snow to be able to use them! It's just been cold, icy, cloudy, miserable. We leave for work in the dark and go home in the dark. It's too icy to walk outside now, so back to the old treadmill. Hurry up, Spring!

Hey Brenda!! Glad to see ya made it through the holidays!! I couldnt afford to wait till the first to start back, the way I was packing it on. And besides, I was really sick of carbs!! :agree: Gonna wait till then to start the exercise though. I ordered a new Richard Simmons dvd (stop laughing:lol: ) Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes, its for women over 50. Cant wait to see that!! And I know what you mean about being a nervous stress eater,I do that too,,,and when Im bored, or unhappy, or happy, or any other emotion,,LOL...I just eat!!
Im doing a clean induction so far, been way under 20 carbs though, gotta eat more veggies..and drink more water, thats the hardest part.
The turnip thing sounds great!! I used to fry them like potatoes years ago..never thought about em on this WOE..gotta try that! Thanks but no thanks on the clam chowder recipe. I love fish and seafood, but cant stand chowder!!
Well, our weather in Indiana is like always,,fickle! We had 12 inches of snow here last week, today it has almost all melted and its supposed to be 50 by the end of the week!! Ya would need mud boots here!! This year it felt so good to watch the snow and know that I didnt have to get up and go to work in it!! I love being retired!
Im leaving for 2 weeks in Michigan to visit my youngest daughter and her 3 boys on the 9th, but she has a computer so I will stay in touch. She is doing low carb too...she had a baby in March and since then has lost 65 pounds! She is stressing over the last 8,,,,my heart bleeds for her!
Hey Carmen, hows it going?? Have you traveled around the forums and made a bunch of new friends yet? Its fun to get up in the morning, grab my coffee and head for the boards to see who's on. And again at noon,,,and again when I take a break,,,,its very addictive!!
JAnn, dont think of it as starting over,,,think of it as picking up where ya left off, going on from here. I had chili too, and about 30 people at my house, most who brought sweets!! So, I will cherish the memories we made and the good time we had, and forget the fact that the food wasnt LC. Dont beat yourself up, it aint worth it! I admire ya for all the hiking and climbing. Im looking forward to being able to do that in the summer. And I like the smilies too!!:agree:
Well, better go get the clothes out of the dryer..
catch ya again later!

Talking about gaining weight.... :agree: I have gained 7 lbs. and the inches are way up. :o I am starting on the first also, got to get serious now and get this off. Hubby has been hunting the last two weeks and gone 4-5 days so I have no babysitter to take care of Grandson and I haven't been able to go to Curve's and I sure can tell it.

Welcome Carmen and Mrs. McCree.

JAnn congrats on your real estate exam that is wonderful.

music here's hoping you have a great time at daughters. :)

Arizona hope you are feeling much better. I bet you were a nervous wreck with them in Iraq. :(

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm going to start on Jan.1, just busy stocking up on everything so I am ready. Last time I did this I lost 20 lbs before somehow going off plan. I don't know what happened :q:

I am going to retire at the end of 2005 and want to be in good shape so I can enjoy it.

Brenda, please post your chowder recipe. I am looking for soup recipes.
Everyone have a great day.

Mrscee, I have planned to retire December 2005 and felt sorry for my boss and said I would stay until April or May of 06. I may change my mind yet. I too am starting after the first. The third to be exact, that is when I go back to work and will be in control again. I also have been working on getting things in the larder conducive to losing. I am following LFL and like it as it is a low carb, lower fat and more variety. Before the trip to Oregon in November and all the holiday indulgences I had lost 10.5 pounds now I have to lose that and 3 more pounds. UGH!!! :(

Have a good day one and all.

Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. I also quit smoking and started low carb and lots of exercise a couple of years ago. Lost about 25 pounds, but started slowly regaining it as a couple of injuries messed up the exercise program. I kept up with the low carb, only cheating a bit here and there, until about 3 months ago when I seriously fell off the wagon. Now I really need to get back to the exercise and healthy eating. Seems I found the right place for the support. We're in this together for the long haul.

Hey Music years ago when Richard Simmons first started making exercise tapes I had a tape with him. It started out with a group of people eating hot dogs and crap and then they all popped into a exercise studio. It was full of exercises from running in place to jumping jacks. It was the best tape I ever owned. I've tried to find a copy of it. I ever wrote to Richard Simmons and his people told me it was produced anymore. If you come across such a tape please let me know.

MrsCee, I hope you enjoy this as much as my family did.

New England Clam Chowder

1 1/2 cups of heavy cream
6 strips of bacon, chopped
3 large celery stalks, chopped ( about 1 1/2 cups )
2 cans ( 14 1/2 ounces each ) chicken broth
1 bottle of 8 ounce clam juice
3 cans ( 6 1/2 ounces each ) chopped or minced clams, drained, save the juice
6 cups of cauilflower, steamed or boiled until very tender
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon of Tabasco sauce
Salt and fesh ground pepper
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped for garnish ( optional )

In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook cream until slightly reduced, about 10 minutes.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy. Remove 2 tablespoons of bacon and set aside for garnish. Add celery to pot and cook until slightly softened, about 4 minutes. Stir in chicken broth, bottled clam juice and reserved clam juice and bring to a simmer for 3 minutes, until celery is completely softened.

In a blender, puree cooked cauliflower and 2 cups of soup broth until very smooth. Return to the saucepot. Stir in the clams and simmer for 4 more minutes.

Turn heat off and stir in cream, worcestershire and tabassco sauce. If the mixture looks too thick to you add more chicken broth. Season with salt and pepper to your taste, garnish with reserved bacon and parsley.

This is fantastic ! It served 6 people and is 10 net carbs a serving. We served this with a nice salad and everyone loved it. Let me know what you think.

Hi Ladies,
Happy New Year to all of you.Now that things have settled down some and I have gained some I hope to be back to posting and low carbing once again.I took a little hiatus for two months. It was a hectic time with our granddaughter being born 1 month early then our other daughter got married and the next thing I know it was the holidays.

So here we are starting a new year and I want to start fresh with low carbing once again.I started low carbing two years ago in January and back in September was down 40 pounds.About 10 pounds have creeped back on so I need to get that off plus get back to losing the rest of the weight that I need to lose.

I started this thread about 1 1/2 years ago so I was really thrilled to see that it kept going in my absense.Come Monday we will be taking care of both our grandson who is 3 1/2 and our granddaughter who is now 2 months. That means that I will be staying very busy but I hope to still have time for all of you plus add in some exercise. Before my hiatus I was exercising at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes each day.I want to build back up to that too.

Really want to welcome all of the new ladies and if you don't mind would you please post and say a little about yourself since it looks like we will be very active with everyone wanting to low carb starting tomorrow.

I will post this then state a little about myself so others will do the same.

It is so nice to be back with all of you.

Happy New Year!!!

A Little About Me

Wanted to re-introduce myself and hope everyone else will do the same so we can all get acquainted.I am really excited about making new friends with the new year coming. We can all encourage each other as we work hard to lose weight, exercise and get healthy.

I am a 54 year old grandmother. My hubby and I have been married for 31 1/2 years now.We have 2 daughters ages 28 and 27.We are empty nesters but stay busy watching our two grandchildren while our daughter and son in law work.

We live in the southern area of West Virginia in the Appalachian mountains.

I've been low carbing for almost 2 years now and know it is the healthy way for me to eat.I am looking forward to getting back to low carbing and seeing the inches and pounds come off once again. So far I have gone from size 1X to size large.

Hope others will re-introduce themselves so we can all get re-aquainted.

May 2005 bring us inches and pounds lost and healthier bodies.

Hi, a little bit about myself.

I am a 58 year old grandmother with 2 sons, 4 grandsons, who are 14, 18, 20 & 22, and 2 step granddaughters 16 and 19. We have been married for 42 years.

I currently work full time but am going to retire this year, ( I was going to say next year, but I just realized it's now 2005). I want to lose this weight so I can enjoy my retirement.

This is about the third time I have started this WOE and am determined to stick with it this time. My DH is also doing this with me - he is skinny as a rail but has stomach problems. He will do the higher carb version, but stay away from sugar and processed food. It may help him, can't hurt.

Good luck to all of you

HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best in 2005 to you all:Party::Party:

a little about myself

i am 65 yrs old, 2 sons and a daughter which i raised as a single parent since they were very young, 2 granddaughters 17&14. the oldest son &14yr old GD live in yellowknife northwest territories,so i don't see them too often but am lucky to be able to spend alot of time with my oldest granddaughter. i was born and grew up in vancouver b.c. and moved my family north to the yukon 33yrs ago. i worked in telecommunications all my life and retired due to health reasons in 1995. being very overweight, high blood pressure and stasis ulcers on my leg i could barely walk and had to have several surgeries. in jan of 2000 i started low carbing, started doing some exercise got my BP & thyroid under control with meds and haven't felt better in yrs. my weight is an ongoing issue, i have had many ups and downs (literally) but i keep working at it, when people ask me what i do now that i'm retired i say looking after my health is my job.
i love this thread nancy started a yr and a half ago and i use it to keep me going with my exercise and reporting it here and the support here is what makes me feel i have to keep on going.
i haven't been here much the past 2 weeks as my oldest son & gd were here from yellowknife, they drove back starting on thursday and called me last night to say they arrived home safely, i was worried as the the temperature here and all across the region to the NWT was in the -40 range and no matter if it is celsius or farenheit -40 is -40.

so now having gained back a few pounds over the holidays, it wasn't hard to stick basically to low carbing through the holidays it was too much alcohol and too many nuts:yum: and no exercise. so here i go with my new year's resolve. it's time to get back to leslie (WATP tapes) and dusting off Richard (sweating to the oldies) might not be a bad idea either. same plan aerobics, stationery bike and walking mon to fri, some walking on sat and sun is a rest day. follow protein power and use fit day regularly. good luck to you all in your weight loss and exercise plans in 2005

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

About me:
I am a 57 year old grandmother to 13 grandchildren, ranging in age from 18 yrs to 9 months. I have four children of my own and three step children by my second husband. We have been married for 17 years this coming Friday. He is a minister and I worked for ten years in a Christian bookstore as the music buyer, hence my name. I retired this past year and am loving it.
I started seriously low carbing two years ago, and lost around 50 pounds, but hit a lengthy stall and fell off the wagon. So, here I am starting again a week ago.
I too use the Leslie Sansone videos and the Richard Simmons, gonna start back on em this week. I bought a stationary bike too, and am trying to discipline myself to use it for more than a clothes rack! LOL;)
Looking forward to meeting you all here daily and comparing notes and happenings.
This is OUR year!!!:agree:

MrsCee, the clam chowder recipe can be used in Induction. I got the recipe off the Atkins site and it says it is good for all four phases. About me: I'm 51, been married for 27 years, Mother of 5 grown kids, Grandmother of 13, going threw menopause, been doing Atkins for almost two years off and on. I have 45 lbs left to lose. I also help watch several of our grandchildren so their parents can work. I haven't had any of the kids for several weeks since my daugher-in-law is changing jobs. I've really enjoyed the time to myself and starting Monday I am going to exercise everyday on my treadmill and stay at 20 carbs or less a day. I hate the way eating all the carbs over the Hoilday has made me feel. I weighed yesterday and I have only gained 1 pound but I feel like crap. Jes, it looks like we all are going to start over so your in good company. Linda my hubby doesn't need to lose any weight either but like your hubby he has stomach problems . When he does low carb with me his stomach is fine but the minute he goes off low carb he has all kinds of problems with his stomach. Nancy this thread has been one of the most things that has happened to me. I have found so much support and everyone has been great. It's really great being able to have women to talk to that understand and when you slip backwards are still there to encourage you not to give up. Thanks so much for starting all of this. I hope everyone has a great New Year. Like Music said, this is our year. Check in later.

Haven't been in to post for a while, guess the Christmas rush was more than I expected this year.

Have been reading back posts so I could catch up and will post a little about myself in a bit.

Jes and Arizona -- well I did lose that 10 pounds but guess what -- managed to pick 2 of them back up over the holidays. Could have been a lot worse, so I won't complain about it too much. What do you girls think about a place so we can post our GOING FOR 10 weight loss. No individual weights - just the 10 pounds at a time? Let me know and I'll see if I can come up with a format we can use to copy and paste -- might make it easier to keep track of those 10 pounds.

The above note isn't just for a few -- Arizona had a great idea (I think) :agree: about just going for a 10 pound loss at a time. The more the merrier -- maybe it will be an incentive for all to work harder in the new year.

Will break off now as I have a turkey that waiting to be basted so it doesn't dry out too much.

Will post about myself in a little while.

OOPS -- Hope everyone had a great Christmas and that Santa was good to all of you. :D

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year. I am 53-1/2, married for 33 years. We have 2 daughters, age 30 and 27, and 2 grandchildren. Our oldest daughter is married, lives in a small town about 20 miles from us, and they have a 3 year old daughter. Our youngest daughter is not married and lives in Chicago. She had a son when she was 16, was too young and immature to be a mother, so we have raised him since he was born. He is 11 years old and very active in sports (2 basketball teams, one is a traveling team), Scouts, and band. We are running nearly every day of the week and most weekends. Both DH and I work full time. I would LOVE to retire, but can't afford to with an 11 year old. We have lots of bills - he had serious health problems when he was 1st born and he is not covered by our health insurance, but thankfully he is very healthy now. We also help care for my FIL who has Parkinson's Disease and colon cancer. And I help care for my mother who is an invalid. My father cares for her at home, but I try to help out, and I do all of their bill paying, bookwork, etc.

I ate low carb for about 3-1/2 years but fell seriously off the wagon a few months ago. I am really looking foward to the new year and a fresh, new start in great company.

Back to post a little about me:

I'm 57 years old and happily married (most of the time) to my DH of 38 years. My home is in Kentucky but I'm most of the time in Alabama. My DD and SIL live in Alabama and have 2 girls (17 months and 3 years old). The oldest was in daycare but was having a terrible time with ear infections so the doctor said either tubes in the ears or get her out of daycare. It took 1 hysterical call to grandma and grandpa and I became what is jokingly know as the ROAD WARRIOR. I watch the girls while parents work and go back to Kentucky approx once every 6 weeks. Not exactly the way DH and I planned his retirement but then I would have probably killed him by this time anyway. Enough about my Daughter and her family.

My sons both live in Kentucky. One lives about 40 miles away with his GF. They are just as good as married but a MOM always hopes. There will be no children from them.

The other sons lives about 15 miles away and has 2 GK's (girl 4 and boy 9). I've been put on a severe guilt trip with me being in Alabama so much but as I told their parents ---- I offered to watch the kids when they were first born and DS and DIL said they could manage so I don't feel guilty. I do make sure to write and when I am home the kids spends time with me.

I first started Atkins a couple of years ago - lost great - and quit. STUPID! Am back on since August and plan to reach my goal this year.

Darn, I'm long winded when I get started. Have enjoyed reading about everyone and it was a great idea to re-post a little (HA HA) about ourselves.

Gotta scoot -- Talk to everyone later.

Happy New Year all.

Here goes, I am 56 for about three more months. I have been married to Allen for 37 years and will be 38 in May.

We have two wonderful sons, two beautiful daughter in-laws and two of the greastest grandsons you could ask for. One son lives in St. Joeseph, IL and the other in Grimesland, NC.

I work but will soon retire. I was going to retire December 2005 but may go to April or May 06 but could still go this coming December if I decide I still want to.

Allen has been retired for 3 years now. I love to cook, camp, garden, crochet, quilt, embroider, crafts, take pictures and be with our kids and grandkids.

I work at the University of Illinois and love where I work.

I have two brothers, one lives in Collinsville, IL and the other in Schwertner, Texas.

I really do like LC'ing and just did a stupid thing the last two months but off to a better time on Monday.

Best to you all,

Linda

Hi Everyone,
Sure is nice to see all of the posts here.I've been good today and yesterday.Started anew yesterday. The scale showed a 2 pound loss this morning.I must have been retaining water.I have upped my water consumption again so I think that is helping too.

Got back on my stationary bike this evening after not riding it since October.I could only ride 10 minutes which was 2 miles.Need to set a goal to get on it every evening and work my way back up to the 6 miles in 30 minutes that I was riding before slacking off.

How is everyone doing?

:agree: I will enter for the 10 lbs loss in Jan. I gave up on low carb after my pc was done for 6 wks. That was before TG and I have not stopped eating since. Now I am 12 lb more.
I am 60. Top wt 400 now 310 again. I have been divorced for over 20 yrs. I had 2 girls. My oldest died of kidney disease when she was 26. I took her 7 yr old daughter.....who is now 17. I have been thru the teens with 2 generations. I feel like I did a much better job as I aged and matured.
I have a daughter 33 who has given me a 5 yr old boy and a 1 yr old girl. Although the family has a wide age range our holidays where wonderful.
The first thing I did when I returned here today is go read about the wt loss patch. If it made me look like the woman in the ad I would buy a 5 yr supply. haha
I live on the northcoast. One mile from Lake Erie in Ohio.

Started back on low carb today and so far so good. Right now there are 2 types of fresh, home baked carmel rolls and a big pan of fatigmand on the counter next to my desk. I can smell those rolls - they're only a couple of feet from my face! But, I am faithfully eating my chef salad and drinking my water - they are not even tempting me.

Tonight I need to get my exercise in.

I think I should pass on the 10 pounds in January challenge. I said that I need to revise my goals to just eating healthy and getting fit because I lose weight so slowly and stall so much that I get discouraged and fall off the low carb wagon if my goal is weight loss and I can't acheive the goal. I need a goal that I can reach, and eating right and exercising is possible, but losing 10 pounds in a month probably is not possible for me. But, I'll gladly cheer everyone else on! Good luck with the challenge!

Carmen, the 10 pound weight loss is not for a month. We just work together to see who can lose 10 pounds first. Hell. I've been working on my first 10 pound goal for over two months. The whole purpose is to set small goals that a person can eventually reach instead of looking at the long range picture. If you lose great, if not we just keep trying until we do. There is no pressure , you set your own pace !!
Marilyn, I'm glad to hear from you. I don't think the patch is going to make you look like the woman in the ad. Why don't you just work with all of us for awhile and see what happens. This is a great place for support and encouragement!! Trust me, you'll never find a finer bunch of ladies!
Deneen, I agree with Nancy that it would be great if we could add a new thread for all of us to use to record our progress. Glad to know everyone is back and working at getting healthy. Got to run for now. Hope everyone has a great day.

Here's another one who will join the 10 pound weight loss. I figure if I have a hard time with it (an understatement!) at least you all can help me figure what I'm doing wrong. Hee Hee.

I am 57, married for 38 years, have 3 wonderful grandkids and a wonderful SIL. Daughter is out of the picture. I am going back to work after two years off. Passed my real estate exam last week so now I just have to come up with the money for the license. My husband and I also have a small business that takes up a lot of my time.

I also am gluten intolerant and hypoglycemic so LC is good for me, however, the most I have ever lost is 15 pounds so it does get discouraging! I started Saturday and have been good so far --even drinking water and exercising each day (one day with Leslie Sansone and one day with yard work--oh, my aching back!).

Let's come together on a format for the "10 pounds at a time" challenge. We need the answers to a couple of questions:

1. Should we post our weight or just keep it at our 10 pound increments?

2. Do we want to start a new thread or keep it in this one?

3. Should we use numbers or be cute and use our smiley faces?
for example: a thumbs up for every pound lost  - if we gain, maybe a help sign :help: - if we're sick or just feeling nasty a :Puke: sign. just something to make it different from other challenges. We could also use any other appropriate signage to let everyone know what is going on with us -- :hyper:   :bday: you get the idea. Might take a little longer to put it down but might give us some extra incentive. Also we can give encouragement to each other the same way. Hope that all makes sense.

The smileys sound good to me too, but I'm going to have to learn how to do the signs. I'll have my hubby show me how. Anyway you guys what to do this is fine with me. The weather is really nasty here. It rained again all day yesterday and all night. It is raining right now and is suppose to continue until tomorrow. Arizona needs the rain but my joints are really screaming. Music , it looks like we're in for alot of company on this thread. The more the merrier. JAnn , we all struggle at one time or another. Am I the only one going threw menapause? Somedays are harder than others with the hot flashes but hopefully things will get better once I'm totaly threw the chance. Got to run. Hope everyone has a great day.

Brenda, you're not the only one going through the big change. I've had hot flashes for the past 8 years! Summers are truly miserable! I know it would help if I stayed on the supplements the Dr advised but I'm just not real good at taking pills! :p We're miserable up here too Brenda. Several friends got flooded out and more rain to come. Poor Nellie, our horse, is hock deep in mud. We'll be thankful for it if we don't have water rationing next summer but it's not real pleasant right now. Maybe the drought is over. :yay:

I like the smiley faces too but it also helps knowing the # of pounds lost so I can tell if I'm "normal" on my weight loss or need to call for help. Another thread would probably be good as a record and this one for discussion.

We've got rain too, and lots of it. They had a flood warning out for most of the state through tomorrow. Yuck. Oh well, Im not going out in it, until tomorrow anyway.
Im having the night sweats and the hot flashes too,,hate em. And the insomnia. I cant get to sleep most nights till 3 or even later sometimes. I hate that, then when I do, I cant wake up!
How about body aches?? Now I know why they call it the "change", everything changes!! Body temp, sleep patterns, libido, mobility, moods, skin tone, hair,,,,aint it fun to be female??!! :p

JAnn, you sound like me. I guess I can join, too. I lose so slowly that whenever I compare my progress to anyone else, I get so discouraged. It took me 2 years of faithfull low carb and HUGE amounts of exercise to lose 20 pounds, and it took 3 months to gain it back. DH and I started low carbing together, he ate a LOT more carbs than I did, cheated a lot, didn't exercise, and just MELTED away 70 pounds in 3 months. Everyone keeps telling him how WONDERFUL he looks (and, of course, he does). But I had lost a total of 39 inches and 2 sizes, but no one noticed or mentioned it. But, I got up this morning and lost 2 pounds already, and my pants and rings are fitting looser, too. So, it's an encouraging sign. What I really expect, though, is as in the past I'll lose about 6 pounds in a week, regain 2 of it the 2nd week, then stall for months at a time. That's why I wanted to judge my progress by how I feel instead of what the scale says. Otherwise, I see everyone else losing lots of weight while I stay the same, get discouraged, and want to give up. However, the idea that someone might have a clue as to why and what to do about it is great - maybe I can find an answer here.

My opinion regarding the questions:

1. I think we should just record our weight loss, maybe weekly on the same day?
2. Not sure about a new thread or keeping it here. Each has it's advantage.
3. I think numbers would be good, then we could use cute stuff to encourage and reward each other?

Deneen,
The smileys sound like a good idea.I am still wondering if we should start another thread or not.I hate to have another thread started then lose some of those that don't want to participate in that challenge.

I love being able to chit chat here about losing weight and exercising.

Good Evening friends,
This has been a rather busy day for me.This was the first day that we had both our grandson age 3 1/2 and granddaughter age 2 months all day.Our grandson goes to preschool three days a week so Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays will be a little easier for us.

I have done really well so far this week watching what I eat.I am down a few pounds.Rode my stationary bike the other evening. What a challenge that was.Only rode it 2 miles which took me 10 minutes.Didn't feel like riding it last night.I will get back on it again a little later this evening. My bottom is a little sore too.Need to get used to that hard seat on the stationary bike once again.

We have been having unseasonably warm weather here and rain.Yesterday we set a record high for the date.It went up to 65.

Hope all of you are having a good week so far.

Nancy

good morning everyone

i like the idea of keeping the 10 lb challenge within this thread, a weigh in, report day of the week could be chosen, weekly losses could be recorded in the signature line, smilies, encouragement and support can be kept within the posts of this thread and those that do not wish to join this particular challenge will not be left out and those of us that enjoy a good challenge are also not seperated from the rest. this of course is just my humble opinion and i am quite prepared to go with the majority.
on christmas day my daughter and her fiance announced they are getting married on labour day, sept 3/05:daze: and the wedding will take place near halifax nova scotia, completely on the other side of canada--what a surprise as they had talked about just running off to las vegas one day and now it's a full blown traditional wedding!--the logistics of it all just blows me away--oh well i'm sure we'll figure it all out when we've had time to go over it all (at least i hope so:rolleyes:) )so with that in mind and also because i have to
for myself i started at square one on sunday with my food and exercise plan and a 35 week challenge to lose 1.5 lbs a week. on this particular challenge my sister & BIL in california, who will also be attending the wedding have pledged to join me in this, they have decided to go low cal & low fat and incorporate regular exercise and we will report to each other by e-mail and at the end when we meet in nova scotia the one who has lost the most will be treated to a great lobster dinner while we are back east:yum:, i'll be workin" hard to win that. i decided to call our challenge "staying alive in 2005" and then i turned on dr phil yesterday and lo and behold that is what he is calling his weight loss program this year!! oh well i told my sister we had it first:lol:
well hopefully everyone is off to a good start with their plans to acheive their goals in the new year.
nancy--i hear you about the bike, mine doesn't even have the hard seat like yours and i got on it for the first time in weeks this morning--6.15 mins and 1.8 miles and i'd had it, so definetely need to work on that, watp1 wasn't too bad but you sure know it when you've been away from the exercise for awhile.
we were at -40c for several days and then yesterday it warmed up to -3c which is actually above freezing so it's really hard to know what's going to happen next (not that i'm complaining)
well i will be popping in here more regularly as everyone is back to normal schedules and report any weight loss and exercise done for the week on mondays.

Well, here I am after sleeping late this morning. Perfect day for it, freezing rain and probably some snow coming on top of that. A good day to snuggle under the covers!!
I was a little bummed this morning when I got on the scale,,no change in days. I even exercised yesterday, Ive been drinking all my water, staying under 20 carbs and under 1500 calories. Oh well, I will just keep on keeping on,,,,itll jog one of these days!
I feel so much better . I love this WOE, no brain fog, no swelling. Its worth doing just for that.
Well, gotta go do some mending and ironing, gettinr ready for the big trip to Michigan to see the kids this weekend.
Later.

I will take the 10 pound challenge also. I will see what you all do and I will follow. I started the three protein days Monday in the LFL program. It feels so wonderful to be in control again. I feel better already and have so much more energy.

I had to get up early this a.m. to take the GKs to school, that after staying up til 1:30 a.m. reading the different threads. I found a thread under CAD/CALP called "fat cell physiology." It was very interesting. It was a discussion of what happens to fat cells when they empty of fat. I highly recommend that all of you read it. It certainly gave me encouragement for when I plateau for long periods of time. A lot of it is because I have dieted off and on since I was a preteen.

I have to tell you that it is definitely time to get down a few sizes. My nicest clothes are 2-3 sizes too small and I don't want to sew new ones in my present size if I'm not going to be here long. I don't enjoy sewing THAT much and because I'm tall and heavy I have to make them. Anyway I had on a khaki green dress last night (a Walmart "special") and when my 5 yr old GD saw me she said, "Grandma, you need to wear a pretty dress!" I asked her if she liked my dress and she slowly shook her head no. What can I say-- "out of the mouths of babes..."

It will be great to see everyone's progress. I forgot to weigh in this morning. But, no matter - my jeans are much looser already, as are my rings. I can tell the carb bloat is leaving and I feel so much better!

Wow, everyone is still so busy - wedding plans, trips to see grandkids - it all sounds wonderful. Our weekend's not quite so exciting - our 3 year old grandaughter is spending Fri. night and Sat. with us, and we're going to watch grandson's basketball games Fri. night. Should be lots of fun!

JAnn, im definatley gonna read that thread you were talking about, I am having a hard time losing pounds, although the inches are coming off. Must be something going on with my fat cells!!! I really think I have damaged my metabolism with all the yo yo dieting over the years.
I just subscribed to a website on weight training for women, ya get emails about tips to burn fat. Well, today I got a regimen for stationary bike riding that turns up your metabolism,,it said, for however long you ride,,,5 minutes normal, 1 minut fast and hard, 1 minute normal, 1 minute fast and hard. Alternate that for the duration of your ride. Then, end with normal riding for a few minutes. I had been looking for a regimen for riding, so I am gonna incorporate that.
It also said to keep metabolism burning at its best rate, eat 6 small meals a day instead of three big ones. Im trying that too. Anything to get things moving!
We have an ice storm today!! Supposed to get an inch of freezing rain and then snow on top of that! I pray its gone by the weekend! Daughter called last night, said she took the 9 month old (the one I am so anxious to see!!) to the doctor for a cold that wont get better, and they tested him for TB!! Said he has all the symptoms! Now I am worried, and afraid we wont be able to go up there because he is contagious! Praying they are wrong! The doc said he had only gained a half pound in a month, and his having no appetite and night sweating, are all signs. I am so worried!! Usually that would drive me to eat,,,but Im hanging in there, eating healthy.
Well, gotta go, got to eat something now, and get a jug of water going.,havent had any today! Getting a late start thats for sure!
Have a great day everyone!! Be back later! (Pardon all the exclamation points, I just feel exclamatory today)

Musicmama, I went back to college at age 47 ( I decided I couldn't do it any younger!) where they had a fantastic fitness center. I loved the treadmill. I started at 10 minututes and did what your e-mail suggested. By the end of the term I was up to 45 minutes and walking 4.5 miles at the fastest. I have a treadmill in my bedroom here but it is certainly not the same as doing it in that FC! Oh well, we do what we have to do.:agree:

I think maybe Jes is right about keeping our information here . Everyone is already use to coming here and for those who don't want to post their weight , they can still be in the middle of things . Music, if you are exercising again I read somewhere that the muscles in our bodies store water for a few weeks anytime we start exercising. By the way , if you are losing inches that is just as good as weight so the low carb is working. I go from losing weight to losing inches. Keep up the good work. JAnn I'm with Music. I'm definatley going to read the thread you found. I've fought my weight off and on all of my adult life. I'm sure the body changes from all of that yo yo dieting. Thanks for the information. Carmen, we're all really happy that you decided to stay with all of us. As long as you are feeling good and getting healthy that's what matters. Hang in there we're all proud of you. Nancy, it sounds like it's going pretty good with the grandkids. It takes a few days to get into a routine but after awhile things will get easier. I get tired some days when my grandaughters are really full of energy but I sure get alot of exercise watching them. Jes, Congrats on your daughter's wedding. You've set a really healthy goal and I'm sure your going to do great ! We'll cheer you on and when you win you can enjoy the lobster dinner for us all. Got to run for now. Have a great day ladies !!
