Gee,Jes,I would think all that snow shoveling is great exercise for you. How much do you have now?
I'm so glad I live where we don't get half as much snow as some people get.
It is suppose to rain today and snow flurries tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Friends,
Wanted to stop by and say hi before I get any busier.I didn't do any planned exercise yesterday. It was a busy day.Did some last minute Christmas shopping then I spent the afternoon wrapping gifts again.Only have a few more to wrap.

We will have our grandson with us this afternoon. We haven't seen him since Wednesday. He has been sick with bronchitis plus our weather has been so snowy. Our daughter took a week of vacation last week.Wasn't the best vacation since her father in law passed away, she had the flu and we had the snow storm.

Hope to check in with all of you this evening to report my exercise.

Hi, I am Carol and I am 50. I also have been married for 31 years. I have 2 daughters, 3 beautiful grandchildren. My husband and I started low carbing December 2002. This is the first time in my life that I have kept the weight off for more than 6 months. Because I want to keep this woe for the rest of my life, I try not to make myself crazy with scales. I haven't been on scales for about 6 months. I have decided I am going to wait until the first week of the New Year to get on them. In the past 2 years I have learned what I can eat and not what eat. My biggest problem right now is not exercising. I have to get started doing something. I guess that is where I need encouraging. I have the eating thing down now. I know what makes me gain. I know how important drinking the water is. When I get slack, I can really tell. I know I could probably lose a lot faster but knowing myself, knowing that I am in this for the long haul, it is important to make it livable for me. I am so excited that there are so many low carb products; but I also need to make sure that I don't start the junk food ritual even though it is low carb!!!
Keep up the good work on exercising. Remember it matters most that you keep going. I truly enjoy reading the forum and all the encouragement I get.

Hi there everyone ... just stopped by for a few minutes ...to say "Hi"

I may have not been exercising regularly but I do have a wonderful tale to tell ... I have been away since last wednesday!! Actually right after I posted my last message in my journal ...

You see around 1:00 my husband Jonathan popped in wearing a Santa Hat and said "Grab you coat we are on our way ...!!" I was so excited to see him as I thought he was taking me to lunch .. (he works in Los Gatos - near Santa Cruz - so popping in for lunch does not happen on a regular basis ... hahaha).

Have you seen the movie "Officer and an Gentleman"? Well I felt like the girl in that movie when Jonathan told me to turn off my computer and that he was not taking me to lunch but instead wisking me away!!

He would not tell me how long we would be gone nor our destination and kept me in suspense for over 4 hours!! We finally stopped in the little town of Solvang (about 45 miles northwest of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley). The entire town is decorated for Christmas ... We enjoyed the Christmas decorations, shopping (hey I guess I have done a little exercise ... walking ... hahahah) , and quiet dinners .... He then said "it is not over yet." ....

A coupe of days later we traveled to Cambria and stayed in a beautiful inn ~ a second story room set with a wonderful bottle of Champagne, a warm fireplace and a fantastic ocean view! In the morning as we walked on the beach Jonathan continued to say "your surprise is not over yet" ...

The next day we popped over to tour Hearst Castle!!! (more walking ~ actually I believe the first tour had over 150 steps :yay:... Jonathan then said "... you know some people have summer vacations, winter vacations, and even Christmas vacations, well this is your Birthday Vacation!! ... { :agree: } ... Happy Birthday Sweetie "

What a wonderful man I married !!!

Well, we finally got back home last night, and tomorrow we are off to Florida ... to visit with Angela, Shane, and my beautiful 4 grandchildren!!!

Have a wonderful of Christmas, be happy for each day you are given ... for each day is precious!!!

Love You All!!
:rheart:

Hi Carol and Bouncy,
Carol...it is so nice to meet you and welcome to our exercise thread.I've been on this WOE since last January.I am down 30 pounds for the year.Like you,it is healthier way of eating and I am in it for a lifetime.I'd rather take it slow and keep it off.I started exercising back in July.I try my best to exercise at least 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week. Will look forward to hearing how you are doing with your exercising.I've been married 30 years and have 2 daughters,1 son in law and a 2 1/2 year old grandson who we look after during the week while his parents work.

Bouncy.....I've really missed your posts. It was so nice to have one from you today.Your surprise trip sounded so wonderful.I can tell that you had a wonderful time.Hope you will continue to post and tell us how you are doing with your exercising.

Monday's Exercise:
Rode stationary bike 6.15 miles for 30.20 minutes

Bouncy: What a wonderful surprise. Just like in the movies. I'd say he is a keeper
So glad you had such a wonderful time. Sounds really romantic and terrific.
Carol, welcome to our group. I have a hard time getting exercise in too. I'm just so busy with working and everything else.I'm 58 and I keep telling myself I NEED TO DO THIS :nono:
Nancy, glad your grandson is feeling better and you just enjoy your time with him.
Jes,we haven't gotten anything but a tad of rain,so hopefully no snow.
I've been working as hard as I can so I can go back to the office I normally work at. I've been at our main office,I work at a title company, doing a special project.I have to park in a garage about 2 blocks away,so I do get a little walking back and forth.I haven't really been eating either, just more like grabbing a couple of bites of a sandwich. Yes,I know,no bread but that's the only time. I don't really eat when I get home, but do grab a snack and plenty of water.

Wanted to stop by and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.Don't know if I will have time to be on here much the next few days.

We had to have our dad taken to the hospital yesterday by the rerscue squad. He's been feeling really bad the last few days but refused to go to the hospital. My sister, brother and I all ganged up on him and called the rescue squad late yesterday afternoon. He didn't know until they arrived. He agreed to go with them which was an answer to our prayers.

He was admitted to the CCU from the emergency room. His heart has been beating extra fast but he doesn't have any history of heart problems. It's such a relief to know that he is now in the hospital and getting the care that he needs.

Will be busy having Christmas here at home this afternoon then visiting with my dad this evening.Tomorrow we will be going to my niece's house to celebrate Christmas on my side of the family. My niece's husband is home from Korea for the holidays. He's a sargeant in the army stationed in South Korea. This is the first Christmas that their family has lived in our area.Michele and her two children are renting a house here while Wayne is stationed in South Korea for a year. When he gets home from Korea after the year is up they will be stationed in Georgia next year.My sister has really enjoyed having her daughter in the area for this year.

Please remember my dad in your prayers if you would. He's 77 and still is well aware of what is going on around him.He hasn't lost his sense of humor so that is one good sign.

Took our grandson back to the doctor yesterday. He's been acting just fine but to our surprise and the doctor's surprise he is still wheezing and his ear is still infected. So he is on breathing treatments for the next 3 weeks and on another antibiotic.Sure hope the breathing treatments clear up the wheezing. This is all new to us so we don't know how he will do with the breathing treatments. He's a very active 2 1/2 year old boy.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.

Nancy, sorry to hear about your dad,but glad you got him into the hospital. This is such a hard time of year with everyone getting sick and all. My grandson came down with a fever last night. It seems to be hitting the elderly and the little ones.
You know,my husband has something like what your dad is going thru. His will go so fast at times that it skips a beat. It's not really like heart problems but it can lead into it,so he watches and takes nitro when it starts acting up on him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I work at the University of Illinois at the Student Union. We have 76 guest rooms and I am the Housekeeping Supervisor. We are open this year to accomadate the Christian Intervarsity group that meets here every three years. They usually do not come in until the day after Christmas but this year they started coming in several days before they usually do. They are using our building for their office space as well.

This will hopefully be my last Christmas to work as this month in 2005 I hope to be retiring. Gives me something to look forward to.

Have a nice day and hope you get to see a great movie and have a relaxing day.

Merry Christmas,

Well that would be nice to retire too. Me? I don't know if I ever want to totally retire. Maybe work part time. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I am home more than 2 days and need to get out and work. I don't go back to work until Monday,so by then I will be ready to go.
Tomorrow,my best friend (she is 78) and I are going to have lunch and celebrate our belated birthdays. Hers is in Oct and mine in Nov,so we combine it when we go out. Course this year with all that has been going on,we really have postponed things.

Hi Everyone,
Wanted to stop by and say hi.My dad is still in CCU.His heart rate is under control but he has a hard time breathing. They have an oxygen mask on him now.Once his breathing gets better he will be moved to a regular room.He has pneumonia. He gets frustrated trying to talk with the oxygen mask on.I know he will be glad when it is off.

Been busy with Christmas get togethers and going back and forth to the hospital. We have it planned that there is someone to be with him just about all through the day.

My hubby got me a Leslie Sansone WATP firming workout video.I am anxious to start on it once everything settles down around here.I have my 2 pound hand weights so I am ready to go.My daughter and hubby got me a Body Fat Analyzer and Scale.I need to get a battery for it.I really wanted one of those scales. This way I won't be too discourged if I don't lose weight. The scale will show if I continue to lose fat.

I haven't been exercising much besides all of the walking at the hospital.Since it's been snowy and icy here I've been wearing my boots. My legs have been a little achy. This morning I decided to put my Easy Spirit athletic shoes on.My legs and feet feel better already. They give me a lot more support.

I will try my best to check in as often as I can.Don't want this exercise thread to stop due to lack of participation.I started it and want to keep it going.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.I'll be looking forward to hearing all about your celebrations.

Jackie...how is your grandson doing? What movie did you see?

Linda....sounds like you are really busy at work with all of the people arriving earlier than expected.I know it would be nice for you if they waited till after Christmas to arrive. You would think that they'd want to be with family for Christmas.

He doesn't ahve a fever now,but he sounds all conjested and coughing alot. My daughter keeps him on medication,so guess it is helping.

Hi Everyone,
I want to thank all of you for remembering my dad.

His oxygen mask was off yesterday and he looked better. He is still in CCU even though his heart rate is better. Now he is having problems with swallowing. He has aspirated some food in his lungs. He never had problems with swallowing so we are really thinking that it happened since being in CCU.Christamas Eve when my sister was visiting him he was having problems with eating his food.I am thinking that the aspiration of the food might have happened then.

They will be running a swallowing test on him Monday.

I stay busy running back and forth to the hospital.Glad it isn't too far from my home.

I put my new Leslie Sansone exercise video in to see what it's all about.I watched a little bit of(I know I should have been up doing it) and really liked what I saw. It's a firming video.I really wanted a routine to firm up my arms. Not sure what else it covers.

Better get off of here and get some stuff done. It's a pretty sunny day in the 40's.

Had a good day yesterday and so far so good today. I am looking forward to the pounds dropping off and being thinner than last summer.

If it is not raining I am going for a walk on the quad during the last half hour of my lunch. It feels good to walk and is peaceful also.

I would like to get a pedometer so I could see how many steps I take a day.

have a great day all.

Hi Everyone,
First I want to thank everyone for their concern about my dad.I am happy to report that he is doing much better. He is still in CCU.He can now have drink and food by mouth but a nurse has to watch him.He asked for a drink of water.I got the nurse. He was very content to take a few sips of water while the nurse kept a close eye on him.He looked so much better last night. When we visited this evening he looked even better than last night. He enjoys watching the people go by and is getting back to his wise remarks which are both good signs. He told me that he can't wait to get out of there and back home.

This past week has been like a roller coaster ride. One day he would look better then the next day he would look worse. It's been so reassuring that he has had two good days in a row.

I've been trying to get a little exercise in.I do a lot of walking at the hospital.I rode my stationary bike 3 times this past week but only had time to get in about 15 minutes of riding.I'm going to go and ride it some after I finish this note to all of you.

I sure do like my new scales that tells me my fat percentage and weight. It will be nice to see the fat percentage go down along with my weight going down.I'm looking forward to doing my new Leslie Sansone firming video when I have the spare time.

Oh I must tell y'all our plans for New Years Eve.We are going with our daughter, son in law and grandson to see the Bear In The Big Blue House live show. It's being done in a town 100 miles from us.We have this same performance on video.Jeremy loves Bear In The Big Blue House. It will be fun to see a live show like that and even know all of the songs, lol. The live show starts at 4 so we should be back home before it gets too late.

Will check in with all of you before then.

Hello There ...!!!

I wanted to check in and see how everyone was ...

Nancy ~ I am so happy to hear that your dad is doing better. I will keep him in my thoughts. Have a great time at the show on New Years Eve ... you deserve it!

I wanted to share my recent trip with all of you, you see I just returned from a wonderful trip to Florida!

Christmas is now a beautiful memory. You see Jonathan and I shared it with my daughter Angela, her husband Shane, and the 4 little ones, Timothy, Kirsten, Mekenna, and Savannah. Christmas Eve Shane, Angela, Jonathan and I spent the evening wrapping gifts and putting them under the tree .. Then Cute Little Faces  Christmas morning ... wow!

It was great to watch them and their expressions as they opened their presents .... and to see them play ever so happily the rest of the day!

The visit with my daughter was very nice too. She and I took off Friday and drove to St. Petersberg for lunch and shopping ... the weather was beautiful :sunny: the sky was blue, and the Sunset ... oh the Sunset!!!

I have to admit that while in Florida (5 days) I sampled everything Angela made ... moderate portions of course. She is such a wonderful cook and bakes everything from scratch ... (she jokes that she must be adopted as I don't cook ~ or rather did not cook very often)

 This morning I stepped on the scale ... 1 1/2 pounds up ... Oh well, back on the low-carb train for me. I guess I will have to adjust my goals again  but I really don't mind ~ it was worth it because I had not seen them in 3 years and this was Christmas !!!

I am here at home this week as we don't have to go back into the office until next monday ... :yay:

Wishing you all a great and safe New Year Celebration !!!

Love you :rheart:

Happy New Year To All of My Friends.Hope we can continue and move in the new year.
We just returned from the Bear In The Big Blue House Live Show.Jeremy had a wonderful time. The adults did too.Jeremy is 2 1/2 and a big fan of Bear In The Big Blue House. We were sitting 6 rows back on the floor level. When the show was over his daddy was holding his hand.He broke loose from his daddy's hand and ran to the stage area.He wanted to see Bear but Bear was gone.He was so disappointed. They should allow some time after the show for the parents to take pictures of their children with Bear.

Did a lot of sitting during the 4 hour car ride there and back plus all of the sitting at the show.I just finished riding my stationary bike some.I needed to get some moving in.

This is the first day since my dad has been in CCU for 8 days that I didn't go see him.He is doing much better and may be moved to a regular room by Friday.

Thought I would post some of the exercising that I have been getting in.Not doing as much planned exercise since I visit my dad every evening at the hospital.I also getting some walking done at the hospital since it's a nice hike from the parking lot to CCU in the hospital.I'll post it in another posting since this has gotten rather long.

Bouncy...I enjoyed hearing all about your trip to Florida and your visit with your daughter and her family that you hadn't seen in 3 years.Hope your next visit with them is a lot sooner than that. There is nothing like having close contact with your grandchildren. You happiness really showed through your post.I am so very happy for you.

Linda....I am going back to watching my carb intake a lot closer starting tomorrow.I am anxious to see my fat percentage go down along with my weight.

Jackie....How are you doing?

Jes...You continue to do so well with your exercise.I am going to post my exercise so you won't be alone in posting your's.

I want to wish all of you a healthy and happy new year in 2004.

My Exercise:

First I wanted to mention that I know all of my stationary bike riding and WATP workouts are really paying off for me.I bought two pair of slacks last winter that were too small for me.I can wear them now but they are too long.My thighs are shrinking which caused the slacks to be too long. This is the first time that I have actually seen the benefits of exercising and how clothes are fitting me.I am also able to wear a size large (14-16) hoodie that I got for Christmas. This time last year I was wearing a size 1X so I am proud of the fact that I am down 2 sizes in one year.

My exercise was very sporadic last week since my dad wasn't doing too well in CCU.Most of my spare time was spent at the hospital. This is the exercise that I have done since Sunday.Wanted to post it to reassure everyone that I continue to move although it isn't as much as I was able to do before my dad got so sick.

Sunday:
Rode stationary bike 4.14 miles for 20.10 minutes

Monday:
Rode stationary bike 3.05 miles for 15.20 minutes

Tuesday:
No planned exercise.Had grandson all day then visited my dad in the hospital during the evening.Did some walking at the hospital

Wednesday:
Rode stationary bike 4.20 miles for 20.05 minutes

Hi Barb,
I'd like to welcome you to our exercise thread. We aren't as active as I would like it to be but part of it is that I don't have the time to devote to all of my exercising like I did before my dad got so ill.

I am still trying my best to get some exercising in each day but it's not as much as I was doing prior to the time taken to visiting my dad in the hospital.

Will look forward to getting to know you.You are going into summer and we are going into winter. Please tell us about your weather to warm us up a bit.

What kind of exercising are you planning on doing? I ride my stationary bike and do some Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds workouts.

Hi Everyone,
How are all of you doing? I got back on the Atkins WOE yesterday and have been watching my carb intake closely.Still trying to get some exercise in every day but it's hard since I have my grandson during the day and visit my dad in the hospital in the evening. My dad looks forward to my visits so I can't just pop in and out.

My dad continues to do about the same.Don't know when he will be moved to a regular room.My brother Jim has been down from Maryland for the week.We had a meeting with the case manager and social worker at the hospital this morning. We discussed plans for my dad when the time comes that he will be discharged from the hospital. We decided that it would be best for my dad to spend some time in a nursing home getting rehabbed so that once he is home he will be able to care for himself. We are afraid that if he came straight home that he would just lay in bed which wouldn't be good for him.My daughters weren't too happy with that decision. They don't like nursing homes so they think that he should go straight home.My other brother lives with my dad.We know that our dad got in the situation that he is in because he was stubborn and wouldn't go to the hospital. The same thing could happen again if he just laid in bed. Both the social worker and case manager thought that my dad would need the time in the nursing home to get back to caring for himself.Guess I've been a little down today since I am dreading the day when we tell our dad where he will be going for a little while. We know that he won't like it.I'll let y'all know when it gets closer to that time. Please pray that it will all go smoothly for us.

Sorry to dump all of that on all of you.We are all about the same age and know how it is to be in this kind of situation so I knew y'all would understand what I am saying about the situation with my dad.The only one that would be available to care for my dad is my brother Dave and his health isn't all that great either. My sister works full time and watches her 3 year old granddaughter during the day before she goes to work.I watch my 2 1/2 year old grandson during the day so we both have family responsabilites.

Guess I could go on and on so I better huish. Thanks for reading this far.

Nancy,I know how you feel about your dad,but it is best to send him to rehab for a while. I know he will hate it,but sometimes we have to do what we hate. :)
It's so hard when our parents become stubborn too.WE have what they call rehabilitation centers, not really nursing homes.
I hope when I get in my 70's or if lucky in my 80's I don't become so stubborn. But I also like to be independant too and do for myself.Heaven help my daughter when I get to where I can't do for myself.

Good Morning Everyone,
I have made it a priority to keep up with all of you hopefully on a daily basis. You are my lifeline to a normal life right now.

Jackie...Thanks for your kind words. We were sort of in this same situation with my mother in law years ago. That was back in 1977.She suffered a massive brain hemmorrage(SP?).She underwent microsopic surgery. After that she was in ICU in a coma and on a ventilator for about a week. Our daughters were only 14 months old and 3 months old at the time.My hubby is the only child and his dad was deceases. It was up to us to make the right the decisions. She came out of the coma and was in the hospital for awhile. After her hospital stay she was sent to a rehab hospital to learn to walk again etc..We lived in the Atlanta area so we are familiar with the rehab hospitals.

Here in our rural area we have only one rehab hospital. It's a choice for us but it stays pretty full so I'm not sure if there would be a bed available at the time.I believe they try to place the younger people there first instead of sending them to a nursing home for rehab.

Just wish my daughters weren't so upset about our choice.I kindly reminded them when I was their age I was taking care of my mother in law(their grandmother) at home and it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do.Since my mother in law had extensive brain damage she came to live with us after her rehab stay. They got her to walking again but she never regained her speech. She lived with us for 5 years before she passed away from lung cancer. Those were some hard 5 years taking care of her plus our daughters were so young.

Enough of all of that.Just wanted to state that I knew first hand everything that the case worker and social worker told us since I had been through it 26 years ago. This is the first time for my siblings to experience all of this.My mother in law was only 59 when she had the aneuryism(spelling).

I managed to get in more exercise this week compared to the week before so hopefully I am back on the right track. My weight is starting to go down again. Not back to my lowest yet but will be there shortly.

How is everyone doing?

Nancy we had to put my dad in the nursing home for three months several years ago. He needed to get back to good enough health to be home. He did not like it but he did it and he did come home. He died about5 1/2 years ago and he was home where he wanted to be. You will be fine, the main thing(and I know it will be no problem for you) is to be sure to visit him every day. We did Dad and it sure helped him. Mom lived right there and was able to go out and eat lunch and supper with him. That helped him also.

I am doing good on LC'ing. I weigh in the moring and am anxious to see what I have done this last week. I git exercise in three days this week and it sure felt good. I walked the second half hour of my lunch outside as it was so nice. That is about to end as cold weather and a wintry mix is on the way. I will use the WATP tapes then here in the house. When spring arrives I will get out my bike and take a long ride in the country. Allen goes with mea nd we have a good talk while we ride.

Welcome aboard Barb, hope to hear lots from you. This is a great place to be for help and information. I love all the good recipes I get here and they sure help to keep me from getting bored with the same old thing.

Have a good Saturday evening one and all and see ya later.

Hi Nancy and all the TOFF's girls,
Nice to hear from you :)
Sorry to hear about your Dad Nancy, hope he makes a speedy recovery.
Unfortunately my Dad is in the good old UK so I don't get to see him very often.
As I said earlier I am very soon to be "50" I am also soon to be married to "Mr Right" (at last) I have two children. Rachel aged 28yrs and Craig aged 26yrs. I also have a gorgeous little grand-daughter, Mikayla 2 yrs.
We all live in Canberra, the capital of Australia. AND YES... it is extremely hot at the moment. I was hoping my fat would melt away but no such luck! Its been around the 38c mark today and we are suffering hot winds just to make it worse. Hopefully we won't see the bushfires that devistated our little city last year at this time. It was very scary!! Send snow!!!!
Well down to business now..... I did start walking every morning for about half an hour, but I have to admit with the heat I haven't done much at all these last few days.
I started an "Atkin's" type diet about 4 weeks ago. For the first 2 weeks it was great, I lost 4 kilo's (about 9 pounds?) THEN.... nothing ! In fact I have put almost 2 pounds back on which is very unfair because I haven't cheated at all! I am drinking about 3-4 litres of water a day. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
I look forward to hearing from you all.

Barb,I remember that saying "nothing taste as good as being slim".
Do you have high humidity there as well as heat? I can take the heat,if it isn't humid.
Nancy, sometimes our kids just have to accept our decisions. that doesn't mean they gotta like it.
I'm a bit worried about closing on my mom's house Monday. Seems like there are gonna be ill feelings afterwards too.You know,it's sad when you end up having greedy siblings. You just don't find out until after your parents are gone.

Quick Update.....
My dad has taken a turn for the worse. He wasn't breathing well yesterday so he was placed on a ventilator yesterday evening.Everything happened so fast.He was doing pretty well when we visited him Friday evening. He was really enjoying his ice cream and talking to me and my hubby. We watched Wheel of Fortune together on the TV in his room.He really enjoyed that.

His pneumonia isn't clearing up so now they are concerned that there may be a tumor. He was a heavy smoker but quit cold turkey 12 years ago.We will know more tomorrow after a bronchoscope is done.

His vitals are good this morning and he is more responsive.I will be leaving shortly for the hospital.
I don't want to tie the phone lines up since we are on a dial up modem.I will try to update all of you when I have the chance.

Prayers for my dad and my family would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your friendship.

A little side note..my weight is going down again so I happy that I am back on the losing track once again.I continue to exercise when I have the time.

Nancy I hope all goes well for your Dad tomorrow. The roller coster ride is not fun for any of you.

Barb I am glad it is not extremely hot but am not looking forward to the weather we are having today. We are under a Winter Storm Warning. We are to have a 1/4 inch of ice and then 1 inch of snow on top before it is done. Not the worse storm we have had but I hate ice. I hope by the time I go to work tomorrow it is not too bad on the roads.

Oh, Nancy, I too lost this week. I lost 3.5 pounds and it feels wonderful!!! Now to get down to my listed weight will be great. Won't be long.

Hi everybody! Greetings from snowy Oregon! Welcome to all of the newcomers that have joined this thread....it is good to see new people getting together to moooove their bodies for health!

Nancy, your Dad's problems are bringing back some awful memories for me! I can SO identify with that roller coaster of emotions as his condition flucuates so radically. That's what we went through for almost 4 months before Mom's passing. I am sending up massive prayers that the outcome for your Dad is totally different than the outcome for my Mom! You hang in their girl....we'll all be praying for you from here!

We are in the process of disposing of Mom's belongings and then sell her place and maybe my life will be mine again. I am looking forward to beginning regular excercising again and this thread will be my lifeline! Just like in the beginning!

Have a good day everybody and remember...keep on mooooving!

Nance,we are almost finished with doing all that for my mom.
We closed on the house Monday,so it is sold.
I've been going over on the weekends and taking stuff that I wanted to keep of hers. It was hard, but also triggered great memories.
Only real thing I worry about is my sister now has to find a place to live quick and a job.
She lived with my mom. I don't have a clue why she never bothered to get or hold down a job for all those years (15) and now she is 60 and no experience.
It's going to be really hard on her. At least she has some money from the house to move to a place. I pray for her everyday.
But I think it is time she got on her own. At least now she has too.

A quick hello...

Wanted to update all of you.My dad is doing much better and got off of the ventilator this evening. The doctors were concerned that there might be a tumor since the X-Rays showed that the pneumonia wasn't clearing up.Well...Praise The Lord it was just the pneumonia and no tumor. We are so thankful for that.

My dad took a turn for the worse Saturday evening and we almost lost him.He was placed on the ventilator. The next day he did so much better and continued to do so.

He was so happy to be off of the ventilator this evening. He has been communicating with us by writing notes. It was so nice to hear his voice once again.

Don't know when he will be moved from CCU.He has been there 15 days already. He will need to go to rehab after the hospital because he is so weak.

Thank you everyone for your contined prayers. We have been on such a roller coaster these last 15 days.I hope my dad continues to do as well as he was doing this evening. It was nice to again see and hear my dad that I remember so well.He didn't even look the same when he was so swollen up.The swelling is gone and now he is talking again.Life is good for us once again. It told him the other day that since he has been a good boy that Santa has left him lots of presents for when he comes home.We didn't get to have Christmas or New Years with him.

Hi everyone,

This may seem like a silly question, but why are all the posts in this form only on 2 strings? If TOFFS is for over fifty folks then why not have mulitiple strings of posts like all the other forums on ALCF? It sure would be easier than going to the end of this long string everytime.

Hello Ladies

I'm Tami, I'm 57 and I feel better this year than last. About two years ago I went to the state fair and I had to rent one of those little motorized scooters to get me around because my knees and my feet just couldn't support my bulk anymore, at least not for extended periods of time. My 73 year old mother made quite a point of rubbing it in that she didn't need any help to walk around all day. I think I made her day but it was one of the lowest points in my life. That was August of 2002 and in April of 2003 I finally started the low carb WOL. So far I've lost 37 lbs but that isn't really my biggest achievement. When I started the diet my goal was to go to the state fair and walk around all day without any assistance. I succeeded in that goal in August of 2003. Spent all day and yes my feet got tired and hurt some, we were at the fair walking around from 10:00 AM until around 8:00 PM that evening, but anyone's feet would be tired after all of that walking.

As soon as I saw the bike challenge I decided to go for it. So before I wrote my very first letter to this website ever, I got on my stationary bike. I was only able to do 15 minutes but I'm happy with that. I also occasionally do a 30 minute low impact aerobic workout from a video that I have. When I started that I could only do the first 10 minutes of it but now it's easy for me. :bhug:

Just goes to show ya, getting older doesn't mean slowing down. I'm doing way better this year than I was when I was 55, and I plan to keep exercising and adding things to help me along the way. Thanks for the encouragement and the challenge. I should be up to 20 minutes in under a week. That's my challenge to myself

Welcome and way to go Tami!!! It does feel wonderful to feel good and be able to do things that we have not been able to in the past. The lowest day in your life turned out to be the best day of your life; as you used it for a stepping stone to a beautiful life.

Continued good success and happiness.

Yes, Way to go Tami,
I am 63 and in March i will be 64. I don't feel that old, but i know I have to get the weight off. I don't like to walk outside, so maybe a stationary bike would be good for me.

What is your passion? If I may ask. I love victorian decorating and old victorian homes. Married, I am a grandmother of 3 grown Children, 4 wonderful Grandchildren. One dog(a bichon Frise) need to get out in this cold Kansas weather and walk him, but think I will wait for it to warm up a bit.

Well Ladies, glad to meet you and hope you keep posting.

Hi Everyone,
Nice to see that we have some new ladies joining us.I'd like to welcome Tami and Shirl.I started this exercise thread when I first found this forum.Sure helps me be accountable and moving.Haven't gotten in much planned exercise since my dad has been in the hospital going on 3 weeks now.Once he gets back home things will settle down and I will once again get back to my exercise routine.I do get lots of walking in at the hospital.

My dad looks so good.He is still very week. He's to be moved out of CCU and in to a regular room when one comes open.My sister is still in the same hospital with pneumonia. It hasn't cleared up so her doctor ordered a bronchoscope.Sure hope they don't find anything other than the pneumonia.

It started snowing yesterday afternoon. We made it to the hospital last night but slid a bit.Decided to stay in tonight. The roads should be in better shape tomorrow to get out to the hospital. Our daughter turned into our driveway today and ended up on a lawn and got stuck. We were able to help her get out.We hadn't shoveled the driveway yet.Daughter Karen and I shoveled the driveway after she got stuck.

Tami...it is so nice to meet you and welcome aboard.I know what you are saying about being more physically fit.I have lost almost 35 pounds now.I noticed when I was out Christmas shopping that I enjoyed the walking and didn't get tired.I make a point to take the long way around to CCU when visiting my dad at the hospital so that I get in plenty of walking.Shoveling snow is another thing that I enjoy doing now.It used to be quite a chore when I would help my hubby shovel.I ride my stationary bike for exercise. When I first started back in July I believe I was doing good to ride my stationary bike 5 minutes.I try to ride it twice a day in 15 minute blocks.

Will look forward to hearing how everyone is doing. Thanks again for all of your prayers for my dad.

Nancy: Technically, I'm now over the limit for posting here, since I turned 60 last October. But as the primary caretaker/only close relative of a 90 year old father whom I adore, I wanted to come by and say how happy I am to hear that your Dad is doing so much better.

Just seeing some colour coming back into their face after a long hospitalization can bring so much pleasure into our day, can't it? It's hard to describe....

I have been reading through the posts on this thread and see so much good support! I am 53 and fairly new to low carb eating. Didn't really have a weight problem until I went through menopause and stopped smoking all at the same time!! My father is in fairly good health but has just turned 81 and my mother is in the last stages of cancer which began with breast cancer about fifteen years ago then radiation, chemo..she was cancer free for almost ten years and then it returned about five years ago. She has been through multiple series of chemo which has devastated her body and currently on oral chemo. meds. but probably does not have much longer. I live about an hour away from them and will probably soon be moving back home to care for both of them. Would like to stay in touch with folks on this thread since there appears to be such good support for those caring for elderly parents.

Hi Kat,
I'd like to welcome you to our wonderful group of supporters.
It all started last Summer when I found this forum.I wanted some support to help keep me motivated with exercising.I have gotten that support plus much more.

We are all in the same age range and are going a lot of the same things with our parents. Both Miz Steaks and Jackie have recently lost their mothers.I lost my mother back in the mid 70's when I was in my mid 20's.That was such a devastating time to lose my mother at such a young age.My dad had been in CCU for a little over 2 weeks and was finally moved to a regular room last Friday.I've been spending quite a bit of time at the hospital. What a roller coaster ride we have been on the last 3 weeks. So glad that the hospital is only 2 miles away.

I was my mother in law's caretaker back in the late 80's.She suffered a major stroke. She came and lived with us after rehab got her back on her feet. Our daughters were only 5 months old and 16 months old then. They are now 26 and 27.My mother in law lived with us for 5 years until she passed away from lung cancer. There were a lot of ups and downs during that time.

We lived in the Atlanta area for the first 12 years of our marriage. We used to go to Chattanooga.I really like that town. Then Incline Railway was a lot of fun.

Where do your parents live? We will all be here to support you through this time. You have come to the right place.

Hugs,
Nancy

Hi Kat, and welcome.
Even tho I haven't really gotten back into the swing of things with Atkins like I want, this is such a great group. They have really been here for me and MisSteaks with losing our mom's.
I know it's got to be harder in your situation, having to take care of your mom in the near futures, but I know if I had that chance,I'd sure jump at it, because I miss my mom so much. Some days are ok and then others are really hard to get thru, but I guess I do it somehow.
Nancy,I'm so thrilled to hear your dad is getting better. that going back and forth is hard on you too.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes! It is nice to hear from someone who has been to Chattanooga. I have only lived here for 12 years, but I love it. It is really a beautiful city!

My parents still live in Oak Ridge,TN (the Atomic City..near Knoxville) where I grew up. We moved there in the early 50's and my Dad was a chemist with the labs there. After college I moved to North Carolina where I spent the next 20 or so yrs. before returning to TN.

I have 2 boys..25 and 27. One is an environmental specialist in Raleigh and the other graduated from UNC with a major in psychology, but is currently teaching conversational English in Tokyo, Japan (where he met his current girllfriend who is from Australia!). Both boys are still single so no grandchildren yet! Kids, today seem to pop around all over the world at the drop of a hat  !

I am a semi retired Psychiatric Social Worker. Actually on disability right now due to sever Depression which I battled for years. Oddly enough, this condition was much improved when I went through menopause (weird, huh?) but it has been very hard to get back to the work scene after 12 yrs! Sometimes I think I was meant to be out of work right now so I would be free to move home and care for Mom and Dad when necessary.

My Mom has been battling cancer so long! She is so tired, depressed and despondent. I know she just wants it to end! She keeps saying that she doesn't understand why she keeps waking up in the mornings. I know there are many nights when she goes to bed hoping NOT to wake up the next day. She is not in severe pain but is always uncomfortable and I knows she is deathly afraid that if she goes on much longer she WILL be in severe pain! Sometimes current advances in medicine can be a two edged sword!

Well, enough about me! I would love to hear about others on this thread. Where you live and about your families. I have only been low carbing for a few months and will be the first to admit that all this stuff is very confusing to me. I am not having much luck with Induction, but keep trying! I noticed that many of you talk about exercising on a stationary bike. I don't currently have access to one of those, but soon will when our apartment complex completes it's renovation of our fitness center. In the meantime I am attending water aerobics classes in a warm water therapy pool 2-3 times a week and could still use the encouragement to keep on that I see from all of you! I HATE TO EXERCISE!!! :yay:

Hi Kat and welcome. I have done some exercising but not what I would like for several days now.

My baby brother, he would hate that as he is 45 years old, is very sick and we have all been trying to help him and my sister in-law out. He has been sick since Jan 3rd and they really do not know what is wrong. They at first said it was the flu but the liver showed it was out of whack. He was in the hospital for three days.

As we speak my sis in-law is bringing him here to Champaign to an infectious disease dr. They want a second opinion. He sure is sick and it breaks my heart to see him this way. They have ran test for Hepatitis but those results are not back yet. He keeps running a temp and is sick to his tummy, no solid food since the early part of the third.

Maybe we will hear some kind of news today. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you all. You are all the best.

Glad to see you Alice. I'm doing fine. Had a bit of depression lately, but I know it's because I'm not happy at my job. So,I'm job hunting. I know it is impossible to work where there isn't any favortism, but I learned a new word too. It's nepatisim. that's where families work together in one company. Now talk about favoitetisim? I'm fighting both
I'm also happy to see new faces here.

Hi guys! I am back from the final chore of sorting, packing, cleaning Mom's trailer and dispensing with all of the flotsum and jetsom of her life. Now maybe I can get my thoughts and my world in order so I can return here to excercise on a regular basis. I am now at my highest weight ever...will NOT change my stats though! LOL That gives me a visual goal to strive for.

Jackie, how is the South Beach diet going? I will be starting it this coming Monday I think. Good luck on it.

Kat....welcome. So sorry to hear about your Mom's cancer. My Mom died after a 3 month battle with complications from heart valve replacement surgery. It is so similar to what Nancy's Dad is going through that I have not been much support for her! I am so sorry Nancy...it just brings back so many memories of that hospital roller coaster that I could not read your journal!!

Jes, I am so impressed with your devotion to your excercise routine. I use you as the bench mark for what I should strive for.

Linda, I sure hope they can discover the problem with your brother and get him started on the path to recovery. That's awfully young for problems like that!

Alice, I just got my Greer Childers tape out! I bought this excercise stuff for Mom...unfortuantely it cannot help her, but maybe it will help me.

Will be back on my excercise bike starting this afternoon! Then when Nancy is ready, maybe we can get another excercise challenge started! I need that motivation gals!

Have a good day everybody!!

Welcome back Nance. I bet you are glad all that packing and stuff is over. I know how hard it was, going thru it myself. In fact, my sister dropped off some pictures she found of me when I was about 6 or 7. My gosh, I thought it was my grandaughter Brittani.
I was so shocked to see how much we looked identical when I was little. She is now 10.I was such a cute little girl, wonder what the heck happened?
You know what is really off the wall? I never really knew what I looked like back then ,we are talking 50 years ago, and I remember growing up always thinking I wasn't pretty or anything.
I think my friend, Linda, and I are going to stick with the Atkins. You get so much more to eat, but I really have my doubts of losing as quickly as you do on Atkins. I really have to read the book more.I'll look at the library and get them both.

Hi Everyone,
Haven't dropped by for a few days.Hope to make it more often now that my dad and sister are home from the hospital.

They both came home yesterday. My dad is on oxygen at home and is using a walker until he gets stronger. It was so good to have him finally return home.Hard to believe that it was two weeks ago today that we almost lost him.Home health services will be starting next week.He will be getting physical therapy to help him get stronger. It was suggested to him that he go to rehab for 20 days but he wouldn't hear of it.He wanted to go straight home.I hope he continues to do as well as he did yesterday on his first evening at home.

Haven't gotten much exercise in the last 3 weeks other than lots of walking at the hospital.I would be up to another challenge.Let's see what everyone else thinks and I am open to any and all suggestions for a challenge to make it fair to everyone involved.

How is everyone doing? I want to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. They really meant a lot to me.

Well, I am blushing here with embarrassment! I did NOT get on the bike yesterday! I spent most of the day sleeping and catching up on my rest. I guess I was a lot more tired than I thought. Did an awful lot of that again today. So...Monday it is. New diet and back to moving!

Nancy I am so glad to hear about you Dad and your sister making it home from the hospital!! That is terrific news! I can so empathize with that roller coaster you've been on! It's really hard, isn't it? Just hang in there girl!

Any excercise challenge you come up with is fine with me. I will have to start in slow again but will do my best. The first thing I need to do is replace my pedometer. It got lost in the shuffle down at Mom's and I never did find it again. That motivated me more than any other single thing I have ever found before! It and Jes!! LOL!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'd love to hear from all of the new ladies who have stopped by the past 3 weeks when I haven't been around much.Sorry that I wasn't around much then but hope to be lots more active now.

What kind of challenge would y'all like to do?I am looking forward to getting another challenge up and running.

Hi Nancy,I haven't been on much this weekend. Had alot to do. I went and bought me a new scanner this weekend,so I could start scanning pictures again.
Now to just hook it all up :)
I've been pretty low lately because I'm trying to look for another job and trying to deal with my feelings at this one, until I do find a new one. I just have to keep thinking positive with things.
How is everyone else doing?
I still haven't found the time or the energy to get to exercising. Just not sure what my darn problem is.
I saw we have a curves close by and I'm off work tomorrow so may just call them and check it out. I've seen others go to curves.

I have a pedometer and wouldn't mind doing a challenge with one.I believe mine messages while I am on my stationary bike which will be good since that is what I am concentrating on for exercise right now.

After I get back in the groove of riding my stationary bike I may occassionally switch off to the Leslie Sansone exercise tape that my hubby got me for Christmas. It's a firming routine which I need dearly.

Nancy, that's how I was I my stationary bike today too! LOL! Sitting there peddling away muttering to myself..."I think I can, I think I can, I think I can"!! I made it a whole ten minutes this morning and then another ten minutes this afternoon. I cannot believe how fast a person gets OUT of shape when you stop doing regular excercise. Now if we could just figure out a way to get INTO shape that fast!

I like the idea of the pedometer challenge. I started participating in the one on the main forum right before Mom got ill. Would love to get back into that if the gout in my feet will let me. I have trouble now when I do too much walking. And forget the WATP tapes...cannot do those at all now! :( Guess what it boils down to is everybody finding something...anything...that they like to do and challenging each other to just DO IT every day! LOL! But I'm game for anything you guys come up with!

I too have a pedometer and would be interested in a challenge. We were gone over the weekend, I got all kinds of exercise at the acmpaer show in Indianapolis. I walked and walked and climbed more steps than I care to count. We also went swimming.

Today I walked fourtimes around the first floor of the union. I feel any movement I get is better than nothing.

I will try to get in here every day. Some days I am so busy I just do not make it in here.

Good Morning,
I didn't ride my stationary bike yesterday. It was a long day with my grandson. When I finally had the time to ride my bike my hubby was taking a nap in our bedroom. That's where my stationary bike is located.

It probably did me good to take a day off from riding it.I was so tempted to put in a Leslie Sansone exercise tape.I decided against it since some of the movements really make my knees achy.Don't want to get sidelined with achy knees right when I am getting back to exercising.

I am doing really well back on Induction this week.Hope I can get below my lowest weight so I can be in a new weight area and continue to see it go down.I think that my body is too comfortable in this weight range since I was in this same weight range years ago.I really want to get to 199 which will mean that I will be 1/2 way to my goal.

I would be interested in a pedometer challenge of some sort. I am wearing mine today to just see how many steps I get in a day. They say you need 10000, not sure how much that would be above what I normally walk; so I am just seeing how many I get in.

Have a good day Nancy.

Yikes! It sounds like all of you are already taking a lot more steps per day than I am!!!! I don't work away from home, so I'll really have to get out and get my buns moving!!! Why don't we just start out with a daily "total steps taken" from the day before to see where everyone is...then maybe we could set some kind of goal for the day or just see who has the highest number of the day! How does that sound? Kat

windy
Wed, Jan-21-04, 13:31
Kat that sounds ok with me. I do not get in 10000 steps I am sure. I just read somewhere that we should aim for that amount. I am just curious today to see how many I get and I have a job outside of the home but some of my time is spent sitting here at my desk. I probably will be very surprised at how few I actually get in.

I will post tomorrow morning how many this thing said. I may have to get another because I keep checking it knowing I have walked several steps and it seems that sometimes it does not measure them all. It is an old one I have left from WW days and do not have any instructions with it either. Oh wellllllllllll it will be fun to just see what it comes close to.

We could check in and tell our daily steps from the previous day.We can also tell all of the exercise we are doing.I am going to continue to ride my stationary bike too.Using my pedometer will let me know how much moving I am doing in a day.

I have my pedometer on today.I rode my stationary bike for about 10 minutes.Would have ridden it longer but it was too warm in my bedroom and I didn't have my water with me.I like to keep my bedroom cooler but since our grandson is with us I never know if he will take a nap or not.Don't want the room too cool for his nap time.

Good Morning Ladies,
I put my pedometer on yesterday to check how many steps I took during the day.I know that it wasn't adding in all of my steps due to the few checks I did on it.My pedometer read 3,780 steps.I rode my stationary bike for 2 miles and did the Leslie Sansone WATP for 2 miles. That was 40 minutes of exercise plus all of the other moving I did.

The question I was wondering...should the pedometer add in the 4 miles of movement I did with riding my stationary bike for 2 miles and WATP for 2 miles?Just wondering if a pedometer thinks of that kind of movement as actual steps or only adds actual steps that you take as you walk?

Need to take our car in for some service work so I will be doing a lot of sitting during that time.I am dreading going outside since we are under a wind chill advisory this morning. We may have an icy mess out there come Sunday afternoon.

Have a nice day everyone.

 Good to see you have another challenge started! Go girls!

Nancy, make sure your pedometer is located right where the crease of yours pants would fall if they had creases. My pedometer measures steps for both bike riding and WATP so I assume yours should too. Placement really makes a difference though. HTH.

I found the best pedometer I have in the medical department at BiMArt drugs. It is an Omron and that is the brand name of my blood pressure cuff...and only in the fifteen dollar range.

Sadly, I won't be joining you again. I have a bad knee and have been put on limited movement to try to prevent having to go for months of physical therapy. I am LIMITED to 2,000 steps a day!! SO....if I join this, my challenge would be a personal one of NOT going over that. And that would be my suggestion for a challenge....picking a goal and working each day towards that personal goal. Mine would be 2,000 steps only....somebody else might be for 10,000 steps. The GOALS don't have to be the same for a challenge to work...just the effort.

Good luck Gals! Mooooove those bodies!! :hyper:

I like the idea of each of us setting our own goals as far as how many steps we want to achieve every day.

So sorry to hear about your bad knee.I would love to have you join our challenge. You can set your goal at 2,000 since you need to limit your steps every day.

Thanks for reminding me about the placement of the pedometer.I tend to forget to place it correctly.Today I measured more steps than yesterday.I did a lot of walking at our Super Wal-mart today and rode my stationary bike.I will pay more attention to the placement of my pedometer.

Okay...my goal will be to keep my steps UNDER the 2,000 mark the doctor recommended...and that includes the bike riding he said!

My mark for today..so far...is 2179! Of course that includes a trip to town and that is not normal so tomorrow might be better. Now to find cardio excercises to do sitting in one spot!

It took me a few tries to get the placement right too or I wouldn't know how to adjust for it! It also took 4 different pedometers to find one that I felt was accurate for me.

Hi Everyone,
Nance....glad you will join us in the pedometer challenge.Looks like I need to find a pedometer that will work for me.I've had this one on since this morning and it says that I have only taken 434 steps, lol.I know better than that.I've ridden 6 miles on my bike so that should count for something.I've been wearing zip up jeans today but I noticed that the waist band is a little loose.Wonder if that might have something to do with it since the pull on pants that I wear are more snug in the waist??

I am doing better on my stationary bike but I get slowed down a little from adjusting my bottom.I think that my bottom needs to get used to the bike seat once again.

Nancy, try hooking it on the elastic band of your undies. :D That's what I resorted to. That is also the reason I went through so many different ones before I found this Omron one that I like so well.

I spent most of the day laying around taking it easy with a yucky head cold. Only marked 1982 steps so far! It seems so foreign to me to celebrate LOWER steps after going for as many as I could get!

I am also going to go back to Curves. I have missed it any my Mom seems to be doing ok and I do not have to devote quite as much time to her needs as I did. This is a good thing.

Try to get on here daily and keep reporting. Will not be doing much today as the weather is going to get dicey here also. They keep moving the hour longer and longer. I am praying that it will miss us once more.

Did get to church before anything has started, still has not started but is very cloudy, windy and cold. I can't do too much outside when it is really cold as it triggers my asthma and it is just not worth it.

Hi Wendy,
I live in Southern Oregon. I walked 4 miles Yesterday at a park by the river with my greyhound Comet. It was a cold sunny day, just right for a brisk walk.

I tried to join Curves just for the fall and winter and was told a year membership was required. Spring and summer are very active time for me in the garden and walking along many other outdoor activities and I would have to drive 12 miles to get there so I declined and I am going to spend my $$ on a good stationary bike. I did what the gals work out and it looks like a good way to go if it fits your lifestyle.

My name is Linda; Windy was what an Uncle that I loved dearly called me because I TALK TOO MUCH!!! So I use it for a sign in name. I do not mind the 12 month use of Curves. I just feel good after I do it. I also am busy in the summer with gardening, camping, hiking and biking. I can use one right here in the town I work and do it before I get home and that helps too. Makes it to easy for me. And of course it is right next to the bookstore so I can pick up any reading material I need and then the grocery is just a few more miles down the road and still on the way home.

I hope it is good as I am stoping on my way home tonight to restart.

Have a good day.

We are trying to get a steps challenge going.I am still trying to get a pedometer to work correctly for me.I also either ride my stationary bike for 30 minutes a day or do the Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds exercise video for 30 minutes a day.

Hope you will join us in our challenge. If you don't have a pedometer you can just tell us in a daily post how you moved that day or the previous day depending on when you post.

I forgot to mention that I got a good stationary bike last year and love it.I am trying to get back in the groove of riding it 30 minutes a day.

I was a little lax riding it for a few weeks when my dad was in CCU.I didn't have the time to devote to riding my bike then. Now I am back at it.

It's fun to pick a place not too far and take a virtual trip on your bike to get there.I did that last year.I peddled on stationary bike to a friend's house in SC that's about 300 miles from me.That was a lot of fun to tell her weekly how much closer I was getting to her house according the miles I peddled on my stationary bike that week.

The hardest part for me in regards to riding a stationary bike is the seat no pun intended. My bottom gets very sore from sitting on the seat.I find myself readjusting myself every so often.

I have a ProForm stationary bike which I got on sale at Sears last year.It has an electonic panel that tells me my speed, time on bike, distance pedaled, calories burned, fat calories burned. It also has a pulse sensor that I can use to find my pulse rate at any given time.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning Everyone,
Trying to get caught up on here.

I didn't get much movement in yesterday.I wasn't feeling too well so I sort of took it easy.It was so cold and I had a hard time warming up yesterday. We had snow then ice on top of that.

I found my other pedometer which was never lost, lol.I just didn't look in the right place.I wore it yesterday even using Nance's suggestion of where and how to place it.The thing never moved from 0 so I don't have a pedometer count for yesterday.

The day before I tried Nance's suggestion to place the pedometer on the elastic of my panties. That really worked.Today I am starting all over and have the pedometer placed correctly and it is reading just fine so far.

Jackie it felt so good last night to be back at Curves. I wished you were closer too, it would nice to be doing it with a buddy. Strange thing, when I got there the lady, Kathlene, used to work here in the Union. There was also another lady that used to work here so at least I know some one there.

I am here at work today but do not know if I will make it home. Have only had 4 inches of snow but the winds are going to be from the norht west at 30 mph and that means no visibilty and drifting snow. I work here so will just stay here even if I have to make a pallet on the floor.

Stay in if you can and keep warm. I will think of you when I go to Curves.

Hi Everyone,
Sounds like everyone is getting a taste of this nasty winter weather. We had to go out this morning to pick up our grandson.I made it out of the driveway OK but getting back into the driveway was another story.I do most of the driving since my hubby shouldn't drive with the meds he takes.I gave up trying to get in the driveway since I was sliding.I got out of the car and told my hubby to take over.He got the car in OK.

We had a few inches of snow Sunday but with ice on top of it so that's the reason I was having problems getting the car back in the driveway.I went out and shovelled the driveway since we found out it was worse than we thought. We didn't go any where yesterday and we really didn't think the driveway would be a problem but it was.I got in one hour of exercise shoveling the driveway and our front sidewalk and stairs.

I meant to put my pedometer on before going out to shovel and forgot.Oh well it probably wouldn't have measured correctly any way.

Yesterday I did all 4 miles of the WATP Super Challenge exercise video. That makes two days in a row of really good exercise. My pedometer read 5280 steps last night but I know that is wrong.I did the 4 miles of WATP which should be 8,000 steps right there.Am I correct in saying that 1 mile:2,000 steps?

Linda.....glad you joined Curves and that there were some ladies there that you knew.Be careful out there in that weather. We are suppose to have some high winds tonight.

How is everyone else doing?

welcome kat and imamaggi. it is always nice to see a couple of new paricipants. i've been following this "let's get moving" thread since last august and have found it to be a great motivator. i am 64 yrs old, retired, single with 3 grown children and 2 teenage granddaughters although i don't get to see the 13 yr old often as she lives in Yellowknife, northwest territories. originally from vancouver bc i have lived in the yukon for 32 yrs. I've been low carbing since january of 2000 & my 16 yr old granddaughter has been low carbing for the last 15 months and has lost 65lbs. along with low carbing i try to commit to exercising 5 days a week, i find it is so important to do some form of exercise each day for my health and agility and general well being.
imamaggi--i saw where you mentioned getting a stationery bike the latest one i bought just over a year ago is what is called a recumbent bike, has a large full size seat, it sits low on the ground and has handles to work your arms at the same time you are pedalling, and of course mileage, speed & calories burned. i got it through sears catalogue and think it was around $199 (canadian) something i also did with others on this thread last fall was to take a virtual walk& bike from whitehorse yukon to anchorage alaska a total of 724 miles. so we all need to just do whatever it takes to get some exercise in daily, whatever we can do to "just keep moving"
good luck to everyone here trying to get fit in whatever way they can.
can't get the pedometer i got to work yet, i have to keep working on it---press this, set that, i''ll figure it out yet

I hate this kind of weather. I have this winter and next winter and then I do not have to worry about it anymore, but still have my son and daughter in-law to worry about.

i put today's exercise in as a total because i won't be going out to walk today, eventhough i go to the college to walk, it is too cold.it started last week with temps around -30c then over the weekend -35c & - 40 c. monday we woke up to -43c and today it is -45c. no matter if one talks in celsius or farhenheit it is the same either way. my daughter has been away visiting in victoria and vancouver bc so i've been going back and forth between her house and mine ensuring the water pipes are not frozen, checking that the furnace is still running and that the propane for the furnace doesn't freeze. i have to keep the car plugged in with a block heater and an interior heater so that albeit with square tires it will run when i need it. the ice fog is so thick you can barely see the headlights of the car in front of you, needless to say i am trying to keep off the road as much as i can. i did have to go out this morning but i decided not to go up to the college to walk today. i just heard that it should go up to -37c tomorrow, i never thought i would be happy to hear the temp was going to -30 anything!!!!

Hi Everyone.
We are getting more snow as I write this.Looks like I will be shoveling snow again tomorrow.Good thing I got the shoveling done this morning or our driveway would have been a lot worse by now.Our daughter has 4 wheel drive so if she goes to work tomorrow she will bring grandson Jeremy here.I had her call me after she got home from leaving here earlier this evening. She said that the roads are really bad.She spun around once which really scared her.Now she isn't sure if she will risk going into work in the morning.

Jes....you are doing really well with your exercising.I enjoyed hearing about your weather.Sure sounds cold to me.We are suppose to have wind chills of -5 in the morning.

Linda.....what is the weather like out your way? How far do you live from where you work?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Nancy I live about 25 miles from work; but my boss let me stay here last night so I would be sure to be here. I had already called the gals that live in town to be here. If I end up with extra we will find extra to do or let them go home early.

It is the blowing snow that is bad where I am at out in the rural areas that cause the problems with way too many drifts and white outs. I will go home tonight the way things look now. The news said that the crews were out all night and getting things cleaned up.

Have a good day all,

Hi guys! Welcome to all the new members...great to see new faces! Especially one from Oregon...I was born and raised in Ashland.....that's about as 'Southern' Oregon as you can get!!

I am doing terrible! I have not stayed under the 2,000 steps once since the doctor told me that. The knee is swollen, throbbing, and clicking and popping with every step. I don't think this home re-hab is going to work. :( But at least the weather here is better than what most of you are putting up with!! It got up to 50° today and if it wasn't for the rain, it would have been nice! I feel for all of you that are caught in the deep freeze, and, Jes, I cannot even begin to imagine cold like you are talking about!

I am going to keep checking in here because it is so great to see all of you working so hard. Will participate when I can...best I can do.

Good Morning Everyone,
Nance....sorry to hear that knee is so swollen. Please take it easy. Please continue to check in with us.I really do miss our friendly riding competition. That was so much fun encouraging each other with our stationary bike riding. My knees were a little achy yesterday so I took the day off from exercising.

We are expecting more snow tonight and tomorrow.I need to get to the grocery store today before more snow heads this way. It's been cold here but not quite as cold as Jes has it.We have been staying in the teens during the day and going down to single digits with wind chill below 0.

Hope to get some stationary bike riding done today. We have grandson Jeremy all day since schools are closed again today. They haven't had school all week.Jeremy only goes on Tuesdays and Thursdays so he home again today.

We are enjoying our grandson so much now.I know I say and think that with every stage he goes through. He has had speech delay due to being a preemie. His words are coming really fast now. It's nice to carry on a conversation with him and have him respond to us:) Aren't grandchildren so special!!!

Good Morning Ladies,
It's a snowy morning here in the mountains of southern West Virginia.Just a few inches of snow but enough to make our mountain roads quite slick.

I've been trying to stick to low carb eating but continue to have little slip ups.Hope to do better keeping my carb count lower.

I fixed a ham for dinner on Sunday. We have been enjoying an egg casserole for breakfast a few days this week.Don't know if y'all have the recipe. If you would like to have it I will post it here for everyone.

Rode my stationary bike yesterday.I usually ride it in two 15 minute blocks at different time of day.My daughter Kimberly came in yesterday and saw me on my bike. She wanted to give it a try.She has a treadmill and thinks it's harder than riding a stationary bike. She lasted only 5 minutes on my bike. She's 27 and couldn't believe the hard work it took to peddle away.

Linda....I'm so glad your mother is doing better and doesn't need as much of your attention.

Jackie.....How are you doing?

Maggie....Is your stationary bike together now and have you given it a try. Please tell us about it.

Good morning Nancy, stay in and do not do any sliding on those mountain roads.

It was -7 this morning with wind chills of -25 and pretty darn cold. I really bundled up as I do not want my asthma kicking up. Our grandsons did not have school today nor did many other areas. We are rural and they do not like to have kids waiting on buses or walking to school with the dangerous wind chills. The National Weather Center has issued a Wind Chill Advisory. Sunday we are to get ice, ughhhhh!! Naturally on the day before you have to come back to work.

I am getting all my ducks in a row just in case I can't get in Monday. Never hurts to plan ahead and then it will not happen.

Have a good day one and all, it is off to Curves after work. Feels so good.

Hi Everyone,

Jackie... hope your interview went well. The same weather system heading your way will be in our area late Monday on through Tuesday. It was -2 when I got up this morning. The temperature is heading down again tonight. It's already down to 11 at 8:30 PM.Congratulations on your clothes getting looser. That does mean a lot and shows that you are losing fat.Sometimes the scales won't move but you continue to lose inches.

I've had a really good week exercising.I got some exercising in 6 days this week.I am down another pound this week.I am hoping that I continue to do well with watching what I eat and execising in February.I am once again at my lowest.Would love to get below 210 this coming week and post a new weight on this forum.

My stationary bike riding is getting easier now that I have been doing regularly. The first few days back on my stationary bike were rather rough but I kept at it and now it's much better:)

How are all of you doing?

I meant to post my exercise for yesterday and today.

I also wanted to mention Oprah's show.Last night I was rather tired so I popped in Oprah's show that I had taped earlier in the day.I am so glad that I watched it.The show was very informative.Dr.Oz was on the show.He showed the audience healthy organs and not so healthy organs. He showed hearts, livers, lungs and a few other body parts. What an eye opener to see how we can damage our organs by not eating properly, not exercising, smoking and drinking.

I was going to take the day off from exercising yesterday but after watching that show I hopped right on my stationary bike and peddled away.

Did any of you happen to catch that show?

Good Sunday morning folks! It is so good to see all of the success you are having Jes and Nancy! Makes it seem possible for the rest of us to have positive results if we expend the effort too!

Jackie, I hope you thaw out soon! LOL! Remember that excercise will get the blood to pumping through your body and warm you up from the inside too!

I received an email for the Denise Austin portion of the South Beach Diet newsletter this morning. (Did everybody follow that?) It is so important that I am going to post it here for all of us. Hope I am not breaking any rules by doing so!
*************

Welcome to your daily Morning Stretch - the newsletter from Fit Forever! Daily tips and inspirational quotes from Denise Austin will have you starting every day with a positive attitude. Good luck on your journey to weight-loss and fitness! Feel great today!

There are many days when I run out of time and just can't fit in a full workout. What do I do? I do what I can, even if it's just for 10 minutes. It is hard to believe that 10 minutes will do any good, but it does! According to research conducted at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research, you get almost the same health benefits if you split your daily 30-minute quota into three 10-minute bouts per day. Another study from the University of Pittsburgh shows that people who exercise in 10-minute spurts may exercise more overall than those who strive for 30 minutes. While your goal should always be a half-hour of straight cardio, a 10-minute workout is definitely worth the effort in a pinch!

Remember, your buttocks leave the room last. Make a great lasting impression and look great from behind.
****************

Excellent advice for ALL of us!!

Still cannot join in the excercise, but that is the goal. Carry on without me until I can!! Mooooooooooove on!!

I did the WATP routine this morning but only for 15 minutes and 1 mile.My knees starting bothering me a little so I thought that I'd better stop. This evening I rode my stationary bike for 20 minutes so I got in a little variety today.

Welcome to the group Donna. You'll get lots of encouragement here.

I have another 3 meds to take for the gout...I must have the most expensive urine in the county by now! :D I am so happy though, since the gout swelling, which reached full blown proportions during the night, is now receding! I have already graduated from the crutches to Grandpas' cane! I am, however, seriously sleep deprived and nuttier than a fruitcake so will not be on too long.

Jackie, I cannot start South Beach for another month yet. He wants me to keep a food log for that long on my current diet to try to find the trigger foods for the gout attacks. Then he will probably okay it. Since I wouldn't have any luck at all if it weren't for bad luck, I am already planning on it being my favorite food that is the trigger! It must be because God put me together with spare parts or something...just glad he gave me a giant sized sense of humor or I'd be mighty discouraged about now. :D

No change in my excercise alotments...still keep it under 2,000 steps per day. I go back in 2 weeks for another evaluation of the knee so it will be a while before I can go all out again. Couldn't tell about number of steps today....wasn't taking any! Just swinging along on the crutches most of the day! :p

Keep up the good work all of you...I'll cheer you on from the bleachers! :cheer:

How's that Donna?...just for you! Sorry guys...couldn't resist! :D I feel so good today...I can WALK! The foot is almost down to normal, the red is fading and the pain is totally under control. God bless drugs! I have the most expensive pee in the county but I can WALK. Tomorrow I may try a slow peddle on the bike if I can conserve enough steps through the day. I am getting anxious to get back at it. :yay:

Jackie and Nancy and everybody else caught in the deep freeze, I sure wish I could send you some heat! We're having such mild temps here in Oregon I am holding my breath wondering what is going on. It was up to almsot 50° today after a foggy cool morning. Had the door open for a while to air things out. :)

Have a fantastic Friday everybody, and remember to moooooooove! (That's my cow imitation! )

Most of the weather went around us but we did end up with freezing rain and sleet and a little snow. I ended up staying here in town last night.

Will hit Curves on the way home and then the grocery for fixings for a relish plate. Have a party to congratulate our new Union Director tomorrow night. He has been a Associate Diretor for many years and now the Director.

You all have a good day.

Thank for the warm welcome everyone. I have stayed with my diet and so far I have lost two pounds. I will weigh again tomorrow. I did get some exercise done today. I walked three blocks. I forgot how good it feel to move. I have to stay close to home because my husband is not feeling well. He had a stoke last year and they could not do the surgery because it was 100% blocked. He is feeling faint and his speech is slurring. So I will have to start my belly dancing routine again. I better get ready for bed. I sleep lightly because of him. I will write tomorrow.
Keep him in your prayers,please.

WIll not spend time worrying about it though and I have a song spinning around in my brain ::daze: "My day will cooome...."
Actually I am afraid it came...and went and I missed it! :p

Donna, we have another member who isn't posting on this thread right now whose hubby has the same problem. I will add my prayers for your hubby to the ones I offer up each day for Aleka's hubby Bill. Good job on the walk and the 2# loss! WTG!!

I am so glad the weekend is here :yay:
They got me working at our Clayton office for a few days. I love the work I'm doing there, but hate the city of Clayton. It's so crammed together and I will be glad when I get back to MY REGULAR office.
I'm going out today to look for some new tops so will get some walking in I'm sure.
I'm going to try and see if we can get my exercise bike in the house. It's just sitting in the garage and collecting dust or whatever
I'm hoping with it being in site all the time,I will hop on it,even for a few minutes to start.

Good Morning Ladies,
I have had a good week even though the scales don't show it.I don't know what is wrong with my scales.I kept my old scales to keep for comparison with my new scales.Glad I did.At first my new scales were weighing me 2 pounds lighter. Now they are weighing me 2 pounds heavier than my old scales. That can be so discouraging.I will have a good day today and weigh again tomorrow.Hope the new scale goes down.If it doesn't, my new scale shows that I have gained and my old scale shows that I have lost.I will do my monthly measurements tomorrow. They should decrease some since I've lost 4-5 pounds in the last month.

Guess I shouldn't get so bothered with the scales. It's just so frustrating when you know you have had a good week and the scale goes up instead of down. But then again my other scale went down so who knows?????

I've been doing really well with my exercise this week also.Yesterday I rode my stationary bike for awhile. The ice on our sidewalk and driveway was really bad yesterday. Our daughter Karen fell 3 times going to her car yesterday morning.Ken fell the night before taking our dog outside for a walk. Our yard isn't fenced in so Ken walks our dog back to his pen to run around some.Ken and Karen are both fine.Sure glad I didn't have to go out in that mess.

I went out there for an hour yesterday and chipped away at the ice and got the sidewalk cleared. My shoulder is a little sore today. That was a work out.I would rather have snow than this ice.Ken went out after me and cleared some of the ice off of the driveway so that we could walk out there. We are suppose to get 1-3 inches of snow today. It is snowing now.

Friday's Exercise:
Rode stationary bike 3:10 miles for 30.45 minutes
Chipped away ice and shovelled our front sidewalk for an hour

This has gotten long so I will send it and come back with some comments.

Good morning ladies. It is snowing and the sun shinning here in central Illinois today. I got to Curves last night and got my 30 minutes in. It always feels so good!! :)

Have done housework all morning and I guess that will be my exercise for today. Have a party to go to tonight for our new Director. Melody is having a nice meat and cheese tray and I offered the relish plate and dip so I know that I will be able to eat and have no problem.

It is later than I wanted it to be to get in here but first things first. I weigh tomorrow and will be eager to see what I lose.

Have a good day one and all and Donna you and your hubby will be in my prayers.

After catching up with everyone I must say that I enjoy all of friendly notes as much as hearing how everyone is doing with their exercise and weight loss :wiggle: .It is so nice to get to know each other this way.Keep it up  .I enjoy getting to know all of you.Since I started this thread it gets me really motivated to exercise and check in here as often as I can.Glad I started this thread too :yay:

I noticed that I didn't post any on Thursday when the awful weather came through our area. The freezing rain started a little after noon.Glad I looked out and saw it.Our grandson was in preschool and we normally pick him up around 1:45.I told Ken that we better leave then and get him. While driving over there we heard on the radio that the schools were closing 90 minutes early. It's a good thing we left when we did.We got back home with Jeremy safely. The freezing rain and sleet continued on through the day.It was so slick out there. It was dangerous to walk much less drive a car. That evening is when Ken fell taking our dog out for a walk. All I could think of was that he broke a bone again. He was fine.Back in 1993 when we had that awful blizzard come through our area Ken fell on black ice and broke his hip.He has a bad limp from that.Sure glad I didn't have to go out in that mess.Yesterday morning the frozen stuff turned to plain rain.Last night the temperature fell and now we are having snow.

Nance....wanted to say how much I enjoy your cheers :wiggle: .Please continue they are so motivating.Glad you are able to walk again and the swelling is down.Hope you have a nice day today and all of your testing comes out fine. Please continue to check in and let us know how you are doing.

Donna...Congratulations on losing the 2 pounds :yay: .Did you lose any more when you weighed today? Sorry to hear that your hubby isn't doing too well.I will remember him in my prayers.I know quite a bit about stroke patients since I took care of my MIL for 5 years after a major stroke. Her stroke affected her speech. We had no idea what she was saying when she talked. We did well communicating with each. She has speech aphasia.Hope the spelling is correct.Wish you were a little closer than Huntington.I believe that's about 150 miles or so from us.I've travelled to Charleston but not to Huntington.

Jes.....Congratulations on the weight loss :yay: .I know what you are saying about the small weight losses. That's how it has been with me.I want to get below 200 so bad.I keep sitting in the 210 area.Would love for a big whoosh to come and take away 5 pounds at a time.Guess that's why I am so frustrated today.I was hoping for a good loss but then the scale didn't show it.I will just continue keeping on.Your exercise is fantastic.Glad your weather has warmed up so you can get outside some. Our weather has warmed up also.Instead of the single digets and teens we are in the 20's and 30's.

Jackie...I so enjoy reading about the St.Louis area since we lived there for 5 years.I know what you are saying about Clayton.Where is the office located where you normally work? Don't forget to get your stationary bike out of the garage and in the house so that you can see and hop right on.Have fun shopping. Are you looking for winter or spring tops? The stores around here are bringing out their spring clothes now.Hard to look at spring clothes when it is still winter.

Have a nice day everyone.I really enjoyed chatting with all of you:)

:dazzle: I went to our local grocery store to find some vegetable. Quess what I found? I couldn't believe it. Low carb milk in white and chocolate. The white has 3 grams and chocolate has 3 grams per cup. I tried the chocolate and :agree: Wow it was good and no after taste. It was 2 for $5.00 but that is okay. I needed a treat. It is an Atkins approved food. I also found low carb ketcup and pizza crust mix. I will try them and tell you. I am going to make a meat loaf tomorrow. I helped the old ladies next door moved so I think I have had enough exercise for today. Hope everyone is doing fine.

Nance,
You are right. The cost of low carb food is horrible. The milk and catcup is the only item I bought and if it doesn't come down I'll never buy them again. I have recipes to make catcup but I do lazy right now. I love to garden, so I think I am going to grow more vegetables this year and can allot this fall. I hope you are feeling better.

Nancy,I normally work at the office on Forest Park ,a few blocks down from Barnes Hospital. The people at Clayton are really nice to me but you have to also dress business and my normal office is business casual. I am not the kind who wears dresses, suits, skirts and stuff. I'm a slacks and top person.
I did find 2 tops yesterday tho. I always look on the clearance stuff. Rarely do I pay full price for stuff
Today,I'm suppose to meet my hubby(we are seperated but get along great this way) and look at cell phones. Everyone is telling me I really should have one,so guess I will take the plunge.

Good Afternoon Friends.
I just came in from shoveling snow. That's a great way to exercise.I was out there for a little over an hour.I had to watch down at the end of the driveway since there was some ice under the snow.We had a lot of ice Wednesday night and Thursday morning.I went out Friday and chipped away at the ice.All of the rain we had Friday didn't even get rid of the ice.Through yesterday and over night we ended up with about 6 inches of snow. There isn't any more snow forecasted till the end of the week so maybe we can get rid of all of this by then.

Donna....did you get much snow up your way in Huntington? What kind of weight program are you doing? How is your hubby doing?

Jackie...Did you find a phone? I have a Sprint PCS phone and I'm very pleased with the service. The only thing I don't like is that I can't get a signal in the house since we have hills all around us.It would be nice to get a signal inside since our Sprint PCS service includes free long distance. What kind of eight program are you doing?Hope you were able to get your stationary bike inside?

Have a nice day everyone.

Hi Everyone,
Didn't post yesterday although I did get some exercise in.I did the WATP routine for 30 minutes.Haven't quite decided if I will ride my stationary bike this evening or not.My knees are a little stiff this evening.I really don't want to over do it but I feel so much better after I ride my stationary bike.I have exercised 5 days in a row now.I feel like I need a day off but I really do want to ride for awhile.Maybe I will ride for 15 minutes and see how I feel after that.

Nance....congratulations on getting back on your bike and riding some. That is wonderful!!I really do appreciate all of your cheering and encouragement.Wish it was in the 50's here.We are doing good to get up to 40.Now they are saying we may get some more snow on Thursday. All of our last snow and ice from last week hasn't even disappeared yet.I was hoping for a clear driveway before any more snow or icy weather moved back in.

I had some more comments but I need to read the other posts first. They are on the next page.I have learned the hard way that if I go to the next page before sending what I have written so far that I lose it so I will send this and come back.

Hi Everyone,
Here it is Thursday evening already.Went out and chipped away at the ice on the driveway again yesterday. We had a dusting of snow today and no more in the forecast for awhile so maybe the rest of the ice on the driveway will melt on its own.Our lawn is still covered with snow. That should all melt away soon too.

I did take the day off from exercising on Tuesday.Yesterday I worked on the ice on the driveway and today I rode my stationary bike.I feel much better when I get some exercise in but sometimes I need a rest like on Tuesday.I noticed that I had an easier time on my stationary bike today since I hadn't ridden it since Saturday.I've varied my exercise some what this week:)

Nance...Thanks for your concern regarding the shoveling of ice and snow.I am really amazing myself at how well I am doing at it.This is the first winter that I have done the majority of it and believe it or not I am enjoying it.Sure will hate when the snow season is over.I don't do as well with pushing the lawn mower.I can mow the back yard but the front yard slopes too much.

Jackie....sounds like you are getting plenty of exercise at work.I know you will be glad to see the work week end tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Monday:

Good Afternoon,
Grandson Jeremy is taking a nap so I have some free moments to get on here and say hi.

First, I want to wish all of you a very nice Valentine's Day.A special valentine arrived in the mail today. It is from our 2 1/2 year old grandson Jeremy. His preschool teacher mailed out a valentine to us that Jeremy had made.I thought that was so special that the teacher would remember the grandparents too.She knows that we watch Jeremy since I am the one that takes him into his classroom and picks him up.Wonder if they sent out cards to all of the grandparents? Our daughter was showing me the valentine that she received in the mail from Jeremy.Little did we know that we would be receiving one too.Little remembrances like these are so special

Haven't ridden my stationary bike yet. Will get that in this evening. It's in our bedroom where Jeremy naps so I can't do it now when I have the free time.

We are having a sunny day with the temperature in the low 40's.No precipitation in the forecast for the near future.

Nance....thanks for the cheer.Glad you are able to ride your bike for 15 minutes now.I know you must be enjoying it.I tried to do a Windows upgrade the other day and had problems downloading it.I should try again over the weekend.

Jackie...enjoy your 4 days off.Do you have anything special planned for your days off?

Donna...How are you doing? We haven't heard from you in awhile. How is your hubby doing?

Have a nice day everyone:)

what fun reading about all of you. My name is Karen, I will be 50 in April....nice to find a thread that I can find support thru that. I have been encouraged to exercise more, I have a treadmill and a Healthrider. It sure is easy to let stuff pile up on them instead of using them.
I sit at a computer all day too, very hard to get motivated to exercise at all after a long day like that, and I too see the results of sitting, fitting into the chair!

Let me be the first one to welcome you Karen! I love the 'bearlover' nick you have!

You'll like this group. Always there for each other with encouragement and support...you never feel like you are doing this on your own! Some of us have been together since the beginning!

I'm the resident 'gimp' right now with a bad knee and gout flareups. Just some of the added delights of aging somebody forgot to tell me about! :p

Here's today's dittie:

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Don't want to do your exercise?
You're just 'too tired' to start?
Well movement will get you blood to pumping
And will jump start your poor old heart!

Donna, hope the cold is better today. Congrats on the new cell phone and the new job search Jackie! Nancy the card from Jeremy is a special touch....what a wonderful teacher he has! Hey JES? How's things in the Yukon? Hope everybody had a great Valentine's Day and that nobody is suffering remorse from induging in candy! :D

Hi Ladies,
First I want to welcome Karen to our exercise group. Will look forward to getting to know you and encouraging you to get moving.

I'm Nancy and the founder of this exercise thread.I found this forum one day and stepped right in and asked for others to join me in exercising.I'm 53 and a proud grandmother of an almost 3 year old grandson.I keep busy during the week looking after him while his parents work.He also attends preschool twice a week which gives me a little more free time during the week.
I either ride my stationary bike or doing the WATP(WALK AWAY THE POUNDS) routine for exercise.I try to exercise at least 5 days a week.

I didn't get any exercise in yesterday.Today I enjoyed The Daytona 500 Stock Car Race.I've become a stock car race fan in the last 5 years or so.We also watched our grandson for a few hours today so that his parents could get some things done around the house.

I got my stationary bike riding in this evening.Hubby was nice to me and got me a lovely arrangement of flowers for Valentine's Day.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend.

Sunday:
Rode stationary bike 8.27 miles for 40.50 minutes

Welcome Karen. My older daughter lives in Colorado. Colorado Springs actually.
How is everyone this morning? For some reason I am so stiff and these hips are wanting to give me a fit today, but I don't have the time.
I have to take my car in for an oil change and check out the breaks. What a day to spend on my day off.
I feel like such a clutz with my new cell phone
Lastnight I went to see my husband(we are seperated but get along great now)
and he teased me, because he said well didn't take you long to put a screen saver on. Took him over a month to find out how to do that on his
When I come home,I have to still do job searches and get some more resumes out.
At least St. Louis weather will be nice today.

Good Morning Ladies,
Please forgive me if I don't check in much.My dad is in the hospital again. He has had the stomach flu that has been going around. He is now dehydrated. His doctor ordered him to the hospital and he was admitted late last night.

My dad is stronger than the last time he was admitted and his heart seems to be fine this go around. He needs to get stronger and back on his feet once again.Hope this does not begin another roller coaster ride.

I have been doing well watching what I eat and exercising this week.Hope to see a good loss when I do my weekly weigh in on Saturday.

Our grandson has a bad cold so we will be taking him to the doctor this morning. His daddy is off this evening so we will drop Jeremy off early and won't have him again till tomorrow afternoon so I will have some free time to visit with my dad.Hubby is really good about watching Jeremy so I can go to the hospital but I hate to leave him with Jeremy so much.

Hope everyone continues to keep moving.Have a nice day everyone.

A Quick Update on my dad and grandson

Good Morning Friends.

My dad is once again in ICU but he is much better this time around than the last time although they have a few things to get under control. My dad has been diagnosed with high levels of Coumadin,a hiatal hernia and maybe an ulcer.Hope his stay in ICU won't be too long this time around. He is very alert and in a better frame of mind this time.

We took grandson Jeremy to the pediatrician yesterday. He has been sick off and on this winter with bronchitis accompanied with wheezing. She decided to diagnose him with asthma. She was holding back on that diagnosis but since he has been going through bronchitis so much this winter she thought it best to get it under control. He will be taking granular Singulair daily and has to go back on his breathing treatments.

Won't have much free time with visiting my dad and taking care of Jeremy. Our son in law was off last night so we won't have Jeremy till later this afternoon.Hopefully with the weekend coming Jeremy will get plenty of rest and get over this bronchitis. He won't be able to go back to preschool till next week.

I continue to do well watching what I eat.Now I need to squeeze in some stationary bike riding when I have the time.

Will try to check in when I have the time.Seems like it wasn't too long ago that Jeremy was sick like this and my dad was in CCU.This reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day,lol.

Jes, I have had some problems getting on here too. You are still my main source of inspiriation when it comes to excercise! :agree:

Nancy, I am SO sorry to hear about your Dad! My prayers are with all of you and I hope this is a very brief stay in CCU this time! :( One of my Grands was diagnosed with 'viral induced asthma' a few years ago and his symptoms sound just like Jeremy's. They have to watch him real close and whenever he catches a cold, if he starts wheezing, then he uses an inhaler and it controls it quite well.

Linda, good to hear you are still working out. Wish I had a Curves closer...sounds like my type of place! :D

Jackie, good luck on the job search! Sounds like the search is turning out to be as stressful as the current job. :( Just remember that excercise releases chemicals that bathe the brain and give us a much more positive outlook on Life! :D

I have managed to ride the excercise bike every day so far this week since the latest gout attack quieted down. Today I hope to increase my time to 20 minutes. Also going to attack the 'clutter monster' that trashed my house! Sad to say I don't have anybody but ME to blame that on either!

Have a very moooooving day today!

It is raining here today and could have some thunderstorms, sounds like spring. Today is Judy's Hooty Hoo day. This is our local weather forecaster and she does this every year to scare away winter and bring spring. It is something we all look forward too as we know spring is not far any longer.

Good Morning Ladies,
Stopping by for a quick hello.Wanted to let y'all know that my dad is doing better and has been moved out of ICU to a regular room.

Grandson Jeremy was feeling rather poorly yesterday. He doesn't want to eat. Will be nice when the antibiotic and breathing treatments kick in so that he is feeling better. It was hard to get him settled down for a nap yesterday with all of the coughing he is doing. His mommy isn't feeling well too.I told her that she needs to get better so that they won't be passing their colds back and forth.

It's like a peak at Spring here.Birds are coming back and you can hear them chirping away.Yesterday it was in the mid 50's.Today it's suppose to be in the upper 50's.

I was rather discouraged that the scale wasn't moving for me although I had been watching what I ate and exercised.I needed some new tops so went shopping the other day.Back before Atkins I wore size x-large.I was able to fit in and buy size medium tops. That shows me that even though the pounds aren't dropping the way I would like the inches continue to come off.I have lost more inches in my top half than bottom half.I wear size large slacks and size medium tops.Would love to lose more inches in my bottom and no more in my top area.Wonder if that is possible? Have any of you notice this same pattern in the way inches are coming off of you?

Almost time to pick up Jeremy. Will be a busy day with Jeremy then hope to visit my dad this evening.

Have a nice day.

Good Morning Ladies,
Wanted to stop by before I get busy with my day.

I went back on Induction starting last Saturday.I was disgusted with the way I was letting more carbs creep in.Didn't get all of my exercise in this week with my dad in ICU and Jeremy being so sick.I must have done something right since I am down 5 pounds when I weighed this morning.I can tell it in these jeans that I have on.They are getting rather baggy on me.Guess I will need to stop wearing them soon.

Not sure when my dad will be coming home but I need to get back to exercising regularly.I have been doing lots of walking at the hospital and taking the stairs. My dad is on the 3rd floor so that's lots of stairs to go up and down.

Have a nice day everyone.

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing Ok.I see that it has been a little quiet on here.

My dad is still in the hospital. He has the runs really bad. They want to get that under control before he comes home. There is an infection in his colon.

Haven't had time to exercise like I want but that will come back when things are less hectic.Grandson Jeremy is feeling better and went back to preschool today. His appetite is better.I'm so glad since I hated to see him feel so bad and not eat.

Even if the pounds aren't falling the way I would like I know that all of my stationary bike riding and WATP are really helping to get the inches off.

It did feel good to see the scale go down.My slacks are getting so baggy on me.Really don't want to buy any more clothes till I lose a little more weight. It's a great feeling to see your clothes get baggy and know that you can fit into a smaller size.

Linda....good luck with getting back on induction.I did really well last week and lost 5 pounds. This week it has been harder. Will be happy if I lose a pound or two.

Will look forward to hearing how everyone is doing.

Sorry I have been MIA the past few days! I have managed to ride my bike every day. My Bike named Spike cause that's what it feels like I am sitting on after 20 or 30 minutes! We also renamed Aleka's treadmill the DREADMILL because she hates walking on it so much! :D Anything to make excercising fun and less boring!

Nancy, I sure hope your Dad gets out of the hospital soon. This is bringing back some really awful memories for me! My prayers are with you big time Hon.

I have news! I have a new grandaughter born just today around noon! DIL got into BP problems so had to be induced this morning and we welcomed Brooklynn Rose into the family just 6 hours later! Good Morning My Friends,
I've been absent a bit but that should get better since my dad came home from the hospital yesterday.

Let's say that I am a little frustrated with my sister. My dad came home from the hospital yesterday and no one bothered to tell me.Would love to know why I wasn't informed.I am busy during the day taking care of my grandson Jeremy then I've been visiting my dad in the hospital during the evenings.I didn't make it to the hospital on Thursday since my daughter Kimberly was on call for her job.I have to be available to pick up Jeremy if she gets a call to go to the field while she is on call.Last night I went over to the hospital and my dad had been discharged. To say it mildly, I was rather hurt that no one bothered to tell me.It's hard to get hold of my sister since my brother in law is contstantly on the computer. My sister and brother in law own a 2 family house. They live on one side and rent the other side to my dad.My dad is right there for them to look after plus my younger brother Dave lives with my dad.Guess I am out of the loop once again.

Thanks for letting me sound off about this.We are all about the same age here so it's good to have others my age to sound off to and know they understand where I am coming from.

Now that my evenings are once again my own I can get back to exercising.Oh,I don't visit my dad in the evenings when he is at home.He goes to bed early and much prefers day visitors so I will visit him maybe Tuesday when Jeremy is in preschool.

Thanks for letting me sound off a little.Maybe things will finally settle down for me.It's been quite hectic since a few days before Christmas when my dad ended up in CCU.

Good evening all. I have had a few very busy days here and have not been able to get online.

I have done my Curves this week, lost 7 inches and feel real great about that. I am doing my weight here at home and will weigh Monday after my first week of induction again.

Had our camping club meeting today at Ryan's Steakhouse and did real good. I had a small piece of baked salmon and half a porksteak, salad and a little broccoli. Had a wonderful time being with all our friends.

DH then took me to the mall and bought a beautiful bible and carrier for my birthday next week. It is a New Living bible and one I can hopefully understand a little easier.

Have a good Sunday and hope to be in here better next week.

Nancy,I know how you feel. there was a time when my mom was alive they found a spot on her lung and NO ONE informed me,until I talked to her. I was so hurt and mad at the same time. I totally lost it and read everyone out. I explained that that was my mom too. When she fell this last time and went to the hospital, she was there all day and I was not informed until late that evening.
By the time I got to the hospital I was so fumeing mad. they were all sitting there and I went off on them really big time.Maybe that wasn't the right thing to do,but I just felt so left out and anger just took over. After that night,I was more informed than any of them :agree:

Thank you Nancy for the kind words. My birthday is this Friday, the5th. I will be 56 and hope to have many more. I really like Curves. I knew it would help me to get back there.

My Mom is doing fine and in April I take her back to the neuro doctor. Then we are taking off for a long weekend of camping. I will have off Thursday and Friday too. She loves to go camping and talk with all our camping friends. Her brothers and sisters and spouses and a couple of her neices, of course they are my aunts and uncles and cousins are joining us that Friday night for a weiner roast. She is already excited about it.

I know what you are saying about being informed when it comes to your parents or for that matter any one that is important in your life.

Our middle brother lives in Texas and I always keep him informed when things are going on with Mom or our other brother. I know if I was the one away I would like to know what is going on. Then that way I would have the choice to come back if I thought I needed to.

You ladies have a good day, it is off to Curves again tonight after work.

Bye. :) :)

hi everyone, sorry i haven't made it here for the past week, i'ts been hectic to say the least.my daughter had to leave town on a training course so i had my teenage granddaughter staying with me which means being on a different schedule. she and i had to prepare for her to attend a cadet biatholon competition in Quebec. they were scheduled to leave sunday then it was changed to friday so they could fly to yellowknife northwest territories for an extra day of training , more running around, changing schedules and repacking. on saturday i got a call from the officer in charge that my grandaughter had fallen on the ski trail and did not know if her leg was broken or what and she had to be taken to hospital by ambulance, luckily my son lives there so he went to the hospital to be with her and after many hours the x-rays showed no broken bones, severe strain and pain and put her on crutches and said she couldn't ski for 2 weeks so then the military doesn't know if they will send her home or let her continue on to Quebec,i was able later in the day to speak to her and though her leg was painful she wanted to carry on. that evening the duty officer called and said they would let her go on and though she wouldn't be able to compete they would find something for her to do as this is a week long competition. so between trying to keep in contact with my daughter, my son, my granddaughter and the military and being so far apart it was a very trying day. she is doing ok now and will be home monday mar 8th.

afternoon everyone, just trying to catch up on what everyone is up to
linda- how is induction going for you and are you still getting to curves, goood for you if you are.
nance-congrats on your new granddaughter Brook, took a peek in your journal to read more about her :)
nancy-glad to read your dad is doing better and back at home. i can so relate to your frustration with your sister in this matter. my mom and dad were both hospitalized in vancouver b.c.and passed away over this passed year and half. my brother would phone the hospital and then not call me and then i would call and the nurses would tell me they had just spoke to my brother
jackie-how are you doing with the tread mill and your job

was only able to get walking in the past week

monday feb 23-walk 30 mins 1.5 miles
tuesday feb 24-walk 30 mins 1.5 miles
wednesday feb 25-walk 40 mins 2 miles
thursday feb 26-30 mins 1.5 miles
friday feb 27-walk 30 mins 1.5 miles
sunday feb 29-walk 20 mins .8 miles

my daughter is home today from her training course so i will not have to go and look after her house and i can get back to my own schedule--meaning more exercise :yay:

Jes Curves is going great. I lost 7 inches last month. That made my day!!! :) This month we are having a food drive like event. If you bring in a bag of nonperishables, exercise at least three days a week and lose either 3 pounds or 3 inches you get this nice shirt that says you helped the hungry. Of course I am going for it as I like things that make me do something.

I will go to Curves tomorrow after work and then the rest of the week will walk or do something here at home.

My hubby is taking my Mom to Fort Wayne to see her brother that is in the hospital tomorrow. He has kidney cancer. They removed one kidney and will do chemotherapy to see if they can give him quality of life as they know a cure is not to be, or so they say. Who knows, prayers do wonders.

Have a good evening Jes.

Hi Everyone,
It was nice to stop by and read the newsy messages.I've been rather quiet since my exercising hasn't been up to par the last few days.Today was much better so I feel more confident about posting.

Jackie....How was the new Mills shopping complex.I remember you mentioning that you were waiting to go there after the big crowds had died down some.Still hard to believe that I lived a few miles from that location.Back then in the late 80's it was all flat farmland that flooded badly.

Linda.....Want to wish you an early birthday in case I forget.

Jes....Sounds like you have had your hands full with your granddaughter's accident while away and your daughter gone on a business trip.Glad it was just a sprain and not a broken bone.Hope she enjoys her time there although she won't be able to compete.

How is everyone else doing?

I'll send this and come back and tell about my exercising.

I wore my pedometer today.Hadn't worn it in awhile.Since I want to concentrate on moving more thought I better wear my pedometer.Once I got it to register correctly(I'd forgotten Nance's tip about placing it on the elastic waistband of my panties) it was nice to see how many steps I took today.

my pedometer reading :5,820 steps which is a little over 2 1/2 miles of walking

Rode stationary bike:6.57 miles for 32.25 minutes

Nancy Mills shopping center is really nice. Not at all like they raved about, but that always happens like that. There are a few places I want to go back to when I have more time. The best part tho is, it is in a circle. We walked sooo far to the stores, that I was sure dreading the walk back to where we came in. My hips were screaming.
We got to this one place and I asked the lady at the information booth if we had to turn around and she said no. Just take a left and keep going. :wiggle:

Hi Everyone,
Haven't posted in a few days.Been a busy week here.My legs are a little achy due to increasing my exercise.I am back up to riding my stationary bike for 1/2 hour plus trying to get in lots of steps every day.

Our weather has been so nice that I have been able to get outside with my grandson. That has been such a nice break from being inside so much with him.He ran and ran and ran outside. He was so happy just to get out there and run his little legs off.To have the energy of an almost 3 year old:)

I am rather tired so I will make this short.

Bouncy Chic...I have missed you so it was wonderful to see a message from you. Please keep in touch.Hope your walks at work can resume soon.

Have a nice Friday everyone

 Hi everybody! Glad to see that everybone is accomplishing so much!

Happy Birthday, Linda! And...YES....many, many more!!

Jes, sounds like a very trying time for you! Glad the leg wasn't broken..hope she mends quickly.

Jackie, a new treadmill is awesome. We renamed ALEKA's to the DREADMILL since she always complained about having to use it!

Bouncy..good to see your pretty smiling face!

Nancy...families are sometimes really bad that way. I think it is that same power struggle we go through when we are kids at home. Whatever causes it, it is inexcusable! :( I know it hurts...been there!

Sorry I don't have a cheer for you guys today. I have been managing to ride my bike some every day and I am getting ready to start Body Flex. Still having lots of trouble with the knee and can't rush it. Brooklyn is gorgeous and healthy and all of those 'Grandma' superlatives! I had her older sisters the other day and we had fun. They are 3 and 5.

My best news is having the best numbers I have had in FIVE years at the doctor on Wednesday! :yay: I went from being told in 2001 that I had to go on kidney dialysis because my creatinine levels were so high to finding out this week that those levels are now down to within one tenth of a point of normal!!! Thank you Lord! AND...I got the official okay to go on the South Beach diet plan. I will never be able to do Atkins because I can't eat the levels of protein necessary, but he loves the SB plan and maybe it will start peeling some of this padding off. :D Now if I could get back to some REAL excercise with you guys it would happen faster. :D

TGIF and have a great one!

Well, suppose to be really nice out today :yay:
I don't know if I mentioned I told my doctor about the Atkins and she is all for it.She has been on maintenance for over 2yrs. She said there is no way she could ever eat a whole baked potatoe.
My blood pressure is 161/80 which is better than my last visit which was 180 on the top
We still gotta get it down to the 140's.
Going to try and put this treadmill together this weekend. :wiggle:
Anyone know how to upload pictures? I tried to attach a picture of our new addition,Lucy(she is a puppy) but it wouldn't work
Hope you all have a great weekend.
BTW, didn't I see somewhere Alice is having some grieving in her family? did someone pass away?

Hi everyone,

I noticed the subject of this thread and hope you don't mind if I jump in. I'm 51 and have been LC since September although I started dieting (this time around) in June. I've been married for 28 years and have 2 sons, the younger of whom just turned 20 on Thursday.

I started at the beginning of the thread but it was too long so I hope you don't mind if I just take it up from here.

I've just started adding some weights to a 3x a week cardio routine and am still reading the book on weights!

Hope everyone has a great day today! My throat is sore and I don't know if you're supposed to take some time off cardio if you are not well. I guess I will pop out to the gym and see what I can do. Even a low-speed walk on the treadmill should be a positive thing!

BouncyChic, I can empathize with having your daughter too far away. My oldest DD lived in the Boston area (I'm in Oregon) until 2 years ago when they moved here. Now I can visit any time I want instead of only seeing her once or twice a year! :D

Jackie, Alice's niece just lost her father and Alice's best friend Fran just lost her mother. Alice was very fond of Fran's Mom and it hit her pretty hard. Are your hips feeling any better now? :)

hummelda, let me be the first to welcome you! We have kept this thread going for quite some time now! :p It's a great bunch of gals and I hope you enjoy yourself here. :D

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

WElcome to our group Louise. I'm 58 and there are times I'm feeling 85 :wiggle:
But we do have to hang in there :agree:
Nance: the hips hurt 24/7 so I'm just used to it  It's just sometimes they really hurt so bad I can't do squat
Right now,it's mainly the right one. I think it's from having to pull the files out with all the reaching and standing on concrete and bending down to a squatting position for the lower files. Hopefully this job will be over the end of March.Things are starting to pick up and I will have to go back to my regular position and that one I'm sitting alot :yay:
We have thousands of closing papers that have to go in the back of the files.
I did alot of walking yesterday and that helped a little, but when I overdue it I hurt all over
You just gotta live with it.
Sorry to hear about Alice and her losses. I know how hard that can be

Good Morning,
Haven't posted in a few days since I didn't have anything new to report.

My right knee and leg were achy and hurting for a few days.I really thought it was due to increasing my steps and more time on my stationary bike.Just yesterday I remembered that I wrenched my right leg and knee last Wednesday when I tripped over my grandson's toys.So glad I remembered that.I was getting so frustrated thinking that the increase in exercise was affecting my leg and knee.I'd never had that problem and I've been riding my stationary bike faithfully since last July when I started this thread.I've had a little problem with my knees but that was from the jarring of my knees doing the WATP routine too often.

I want to get back to Induction and have a better week.I have a good week then the next week I don't do so well.I keep going up and down the same few pounds.

Louise...I want to extend a big welcome to you.We always enjoy having new women join us.You have done really well with such a good weight loss.Hope you are feeling better and that your throat is no longer sore.

Jackie...Hope you are back to your regular job soon. All of that movement has to be rough on you when you aren't used to it.Did you get the treadmill put together?

Bouncy....So glad that you and your daughter are back to talking more.

Nance...congratulations on having the best numbers in years. How you started on SB? If so how do you like it?

Have a nice Monday everyone. We are getting some snow showers after going up to 72 on Friday!!

Morning all.
Nancy glad to see ya back :)
this project should be over by the end of the month, I hope. I can't believe someone snuck in and left me with a cold. I'm all stopped up and coughing, then this runny nose. I have gone all year without being sick too
Now I got the rudolph nose and red tongue from my halls cough drops
