Good Morning LAdies,
Looks like the nice long post I had tried to send last night didn't come through thanks to the problems with my ISP.I was having problems getting on the Internet. When I finally got on I quickly sent off a post to all of you but then it didn't come through.I will try again.Wish me luck. Now if I could only cut and paste that nice post, lol.
Bouncy Chic...Thank you for the encouragement concerning my bike riding. It really helped to have you tell me you know it's a pretty hard workout.I managed to do the WATP workout and ride my bike last night even after a trying day with a tired, sick 2 1/2 year old.Keep up the good work with your walking.Where is Sunnyvale located in CA? Those wild fires near San Bernadino are awful.
Nance......It was great hearing from you.We are still waiting for you for our next big challenge.I have really missed your posts here but I know where you need to be.I have been praying for you and your mother.Sorry to hear that she had another set back but she really sounds like a fighter and was at the right place when it happened.Take care of yourself so that you can get back to your mother. How is your hubby fairing while you have been gone?
Jes....You are doing great with all of your exercising.Last night I went a little past the 2 mile mark on the WATP.Maybe I will continue and work up to 2 2/3 miles.Since it takes 15 minutes to walk one mile during the routine I figure that each additional 5 minutes is 1/3 of a mile.Lelsie doesn't have you working with weights on the 4 mile walk.I've been using mine so I sure hope I am doing them correctly.
Alice...Hope you had a good weigh in and lost some inches when you measured.I agree that it's a good thing to keep track of your measurements.Like you,I have lost inches even if I have lost any pounds.
Exercise for Friday:
WATP for 2.3 miles and 35 minutes
Rode stationary bike for 3.20 miles and 16.10 minutes
Hope everyone has a nice weekend:).

good morning nancy--what a pain when you lose a post, after the last vbulletin upgrade on this forum i was losing all my posts, now after making a few changes it seems to be better now. as far as the weights go on watp 1&2 leslie has you do some warmup then use the weights, stressing not to hold them tightly, keep relaxed, up over your head, out to the side, out to the front, changing each time she changes the step then put them down for the cool down-approx 20% warmup 60% with weights and 20% cooldown or whatever you are comfortable with :agree:

Good afternoon Ladies! Since I only have time for one post, decided to do it here today! I am almost ready to head back to the hospital and Mom since she has begun asking "where's my Nance?"! My cold has cleared up enough I can get by with seeing her with a mask on again.
Mom was a walker before all this happened...over 2 miles per day, sometimes more. I truly believe being in that good shape is the only reason she is still with us today. That should be incentive for all of us to keep up with the excercising no matter how tired we get or how bored or discouraged! Oh...Mom turned EIGHTY the week before this all started!!
Yesterday she had another procedure done...a drain tube inserted into her pleura to drain yet another pocket of fluid from her lungs. All of her problems stem from the results of her lungs filling with the blood from the leaky mitral valve prior to her heart surgery. Hopefully this will be the last pocket they have to drain...but we don't get our hopes up too high any more! LOL! Especially Mom!
Ladies, please go ahead with your next challenge. I will participate in it as much as possible under the circumstances, but really wish you would continue as if I were right here with you...I am in my heart anyway! LOL! You are all doing so well I hate to slow you down in ANY way!! Plus...it is more incentive to keep me moving at the hospital where the inclination is to just sit and wait for news!
All of you keep up the terrific workouts. I am so impressed with you Jes and Nancy and Alice and....ALL OF YOU!! Makes me proud to be a part of the group!!
Keep moooooving for health!

Hello there all ...
I am glad to report that I went for a walk every day this weekend ... a first !!
Well, actually my new husband is being very supportive and asked me if I wanted to walk to the park on Saturday morning ... isn't that cool??? On Sunday morning we were out agin before 8:00 ... WoW  So that means I got in 3 1/2 hours of walking plus walking around to mall on Saturday ...
Nancy ~ Sunnyvale is below San Francisco near San Jose so I am not anywhere near those fires. They did have one in Half Moon Bay ... but that is a few miles away.
Today is going to be another scorcher so I will try to get out before 10:00. Wish me luck ...

Hi Nancy-JES- Bouncy--Today is day 15 for me doing Greer Childers Body Flex.
Didn't get my exercises done last night as my daughter came over and needed some things for decorating her office at work today but it is done for today.
Glad to see you saw Greer on the tv. this weekend JES. It is interesting and I am now starting to get the routein down so I won't have to take her tape with me when I go away from now on.
I have several other pieces of equipment and am hoping to get myself back in shape so I can go back to using them again.
I have started taking high doses of glucosamine and condroitin and MSM that my doctor recommended. I am beginning to think that they are doing me more good thatn all the arthritis medicines combined and I am really happy about that. No side effects either. Rah!!!
Hope you all are happy and exercising for health.
Nancy--Hope your little grandson is feeling better and Bouncy--glad to see you are staying with your exercise program.

Good Morning !!
Well, I walked into the office and a little later one of the directors walked in and asked if he could join me in my morning walk. He used to walk every day when our office was by the park but we just moved to this new building and he does not know where the trail is. (He is in his 80's and an avid tennis player.) So, I guess I will not be able to do the "race-walk" today ~ just a casual walk. That's ok .... once he knows the way I hope I can resume at my own pace ....
Jes ~ good job on your exercise routines!!!
Alice ~ yes, I am a newlywed (again .... hahahaha) ... and I love it! He is pretty special and very supportive ~ makes it a little easier to stay with this program ...
But please know that I truly am thankful that I have met all of you because you KNOW what it takes to struggle through this ... and you are so honest about it. Thanks!
Love you All,

Was a busy day yesterday so I didn't have a chance to check in with all of you.Grandson Jeremy returned to preschool so I got my WATP routine done while he was gone.
Yesterday evening we attended my great niece's 9th birthday party.Pizza was served along with other goodies.I behaved myself and only ate the toppings off of the pizza.I made sure to eat before I left so I wouldn't be tempted. My niece tends to make her foods rather spicy so the other foods didn't tempt me at all.
I am so happy about one of my accomplishments.I am finally able to wear a pair of jeans that I found in the back of my closet. When I first found them about 2 months ago I couldn't even pull them up.Now they fit so well that I wore them to the birthday party last night.I was so proud of myself.Really think that the WATP routine is really helping me plus watching what I eat.I really don't remember buying the jeans.Must have had them for at least 5 years but they look brand new.I am thinking that I might have bought them without trying them on.When I tried them on and found they didn't fit I must have put them in the back of my closet to fit into some day. That day has finally arrived.
Now I want to get into a 2 piece sweat suit outfit I bought on line through JC Penney. It's a size large.Really thought I would be able to wear it but when it arrived about a month ago it was way too snug.Tried it on again last night. It won't be too long till I can wear it.I can wear it now but it is still a little too snug for my liking.
Looks like all of my exercising and watching what I eat is paying off even if the pounds haven't dropped all that dramatically here lately.
Tuesday:Did WATP for 2 miles and 30 minutes

Isn't it great when things begin to fit again ... !!!
I have sooooo many clothes that I outgrew and wanted to toss them out. But my new hubby said "NO" and he put them in the back of the closet ... he said that I would be able to fit in them again ... just wait!
Well, that has given me insentive to try harder in order to wear them !!!
Once in a while I will pull out something (like you did) and try it on ... soon things will be "my size" again.... hahahaha

I have had another good day of watching what I eat and doing my exercise.
Since my long sleeve top is too warm to wear while doing the WATP routine I changed into a t-shirt.I couldn't believe how well the t-shirt fit me.I would only wear it around the house since it was a little snug. Now it fits just fine.
There is a little story behind that t-shirt.My daughter Kimberly attended a college out of state back in 1997.Since I was a proud mother of a daughter in college I wanted one of those t-shirts that had Mom and the college name on it.They only had a size large t-shirt which didn't fit me but I wanted it so bad that I went ahead and bought it.This too small t-shirt has been in my closet for 6 years and now I can wear it.I am no longer a mom to a student at that college but I am proud that I can finally wear the t-shirt!!!
Wednesday:WATP 2 miles for 30 minutes.

Isnt' it great when something fits !!!!
I remember buying the sweashirts from my daughter's school ... always had to get a bigger size ... Being short and round ... hahaha... I always have had a time getting things to fit ~ but it is getting easier!! Thanks to the encouragement of my new friends! .... :yay:
I was able to do my race-walk yesterday (as Mr Director could not get away).
Noticed my shadow as I walked and exagerated my hip movements ... realised that I was then working my waist and the inside of my thighs ... :wiggle: .. pretty cool!!! Glad nobody was watching... hahahahaha
I will be out for my walk with Mr. Director today, so a more casual walk in store.
Keep up the good work Everyone!!

Hi ... I am back ...
Just had my "walk" with Mr. Director (who is in his 80's) ... boy .... a pretty good workout ... I think because he is taller than me (who isn't as I am only 5'...hahaha) I had to work harder at keeping up with his casual pace ... I think I had to walk 1 1/2 steps to his one ... {giggle} ... and because he is an avid tennis player he is in pretty good shape ... whew!!!

Hi Bouncy Chic,
I have an afternoon free so thought I would stop by and check in on everyone.I've already ridden my stationary bike for 16 minutes and plan on doing the WATP for 30 minutes this evening.
You are doing great with your walks. You were mentioning exagerating your hip movements when race walking. That reminds me of doing the WATP routine.Leslie has us walking with our knees up and making big steps. It looks rather funny but it sure works your muscles.I find it fun to do.It's like you are taking giant steps and exagerating with lifts your knees.Another one is stretching our legs out to each side and sort of rocking our legs. That's a lot of fun too.I really felt the beat last night when I was doing the routine.
Sounds like you got a great workout with the director. My daughter is onlly 5 foot 2 and her hubby is at least 6 foot. It's so funny to see them walking together. He takes giant steps so it's like she is almost running to keep up with him.I went to our local Super Wal-Mart one time with my son in law.It wore me out since his legs are so long and the big steps he took.It was very hard to keep up with him.I can walk fast since my hubby has to tell me to slow down when I am in a store with him but my son in law's long legs were just too hard to keep up with.
It is great feeling when something fits that you hadn't worn in ages.I had set for one of my goals to be able to wear those jeans. So I was very thrilled yesterday when I could finally wear them :wiggle:

Hi Everyone,
I had a wonderful Halloween today.Grandson Jeremy is old enough to enjoy it since he is now 2 1/2.I attended his party at preschool then this evening got to go Trick or Treating with him and his mommy. We walked for about an hour and a half so that was my exercise for the day.
I was never once tempted by any of the Halloween candy which is a big lifestyle change for me.Chocolate is one of my weaknesses.Today when I was buying more trick or treat candy(glad I did since it was all given out)I bought myself one of those low carb sugar free chocolate bars. That was my Halloween treat.Boy did I enjoy it:)

Happy Halloween everyone- Had a good day today with my youngest grandson. We cut up a pumpkin --baked the seeds and cooked the pumpkin then ran it through a sieve and cooked it down the rest of the afternoon and evening. It still needs to reduce some more so will recook it tomorrow. I have started walking on a walker--forget what the name is --Did 1000 steps on it tonight before doing my Greer Childers. Am going to get this weight off one way or another.
Thanks Nancy for your good wishes for Drew's birthday. He had a really good time and received several things he wanted for his birthday. He is in third grade now and wanted a microscope. They are beginning to study cells and wanted to be able to see it- so Bill and I gave him one for his gift from us. If he continues his interest we may get him a laboratory model which has more strength.
Today is day18 I think - Exercises done for another day!

Hi everybody! I'm home again for a few days and in the process of trying to catch up on the forum again. Hello to all the new folks!
Have turned another 100,000 steps on the pedometer and am now up to 341,163 steps for the duration of Mom's hospital stay... or...170.13 miles! The new hospital she is now in for rehab is much smaller so the steps won't accumulate as fast. Plus they have a very small, BUSY location so there is no place to go for a real all out walk like before. Will just settle for what I can get!
Heard from Alice this morning and her back is very bad again so she cannot excercise right now. Poor thing! She said to tell you she would be back as soon as she can. Get better quick, Honey!
I am so impressed that all of you are doing so well with excercising every day! Makes me proud to be part of the group! I can't wait until Mom is finally out of the hospital so I can STAY home and get back into my routine of bike riding and walking again!
Have a great day and keep mooooooving!

I have had another good exercise day.Since my grandson was in preschool this morning I was able to do the WATP while he was gone.I like doing it in the morning then I can get some stationary bike riding done in the evening.
Since the pair of jeans I was wearing today were feeling rather baggy I decided to try on a new pair of jeans that have been hanging in my closet.I bought them on sale back in the Spring to give me some incentative to lose some more weight and inches.Tried them on and they fit.I am so happy about that. Now I will wash up the baggy pair and put them in the bag of clothes that have gotten too baggy on me.I will give them to our local Union Mission.Back in the Spring I gave them a bag of my baggy clothes and now I just about have another bag full for them.
Looks like I need to buy another pair of jeans on sale in a smaller size to guage how I am doing with losing inches.Saturday I take my monthly measurements.I know that I have done really good in losing inches this past month.

Another Challenge???
Since we have had some new ladies join us and the postings have picked up some I was thinking about starting another challenge if anyone is interested.
Since the holidays are coming I thought that it might be a good idea to challenge each other to exercise at least 30 minutes a day till the end of the year.We could start the challenge on Sunday. After this challenge ends we could think of another one to start the new year.
Does anyone want to join me in this challenge? :yay:

I do the WATP tapes and LOVE them. I do the 1, 2 and 3 mile ones according to how busy my day is. I didn't know there was a 4 mile one! She does have one for Abs I've looked at, but this 4 mile walk I've not heard about. Is this something new? I'll have to get it if it is. Maybe that's the same as the Abs workout tape, duuno? :yay:

hi morgan1974 & windy
i myself only have the 2 cd set of WATP 1, 2 & 3 as well as leslie's earlier tapes, walk aerobics and advanced walk aerobics.
as for WATP 4, chloesue is the one who has that one and she could probably fill you on the format of that one.
these dvd's and tapes can be purchased at most major chain stores as well as amazon.com in the u.s.a. and amazon.ca in canada

Hi there everyone. ... I am back .... did you miss me? :)
Wow, I see we have new friends here ... nice to meet you.
New Orleans was great ... tried really hard and only gained back 1/2 a pound ... :agree:
Things have been really crazy here in the office. We had some downsizing yesterday ... but I am still here. Was not able to get my morning walk in and really miss it ... and now it is starting to rain out ...
Anyway, gotta get back to work.
Bye for now ...

The Walk Away The Pounds routine that I do is called the Walk Away The Pounds 4 Mile Super Challenge. One of my daughters got it for me for my birthday on October 20th.I've been doing it since then. It's a 4 mile routine and high energy.Since I am new to it I go for 2 miles which is 30 minutes of highly intense moving. It's a great workout.
Mine was bought at a Super Wal-Mart.Hope you try it and like it.Let us know.

So glad that the two of you are ready to start the challenge tomorrow.I am looking forward to hearing how you like the WATP routines.
I was doing my WATP routine this morning when my 26 year old daughter Karen walked in.She's the one that got the WATP video for me for my birthday.I told her to join me.She joined me for about 1/4 a mile and said that it was fun and harder than the other WATP 1 mile routine that she has done.
Jackie...where in the St.Louis area do you live? We lived in Florissant from 1985-1990.I noticed that you haven't changed your stats yet.Have you lost any weight yet? Just wondering since we are about the same weight according to your stats.I have lost 30 pounds now with lots more to go.I'd love to be at 199 by January 1st.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I didn't check in yesterday with all of you.I am a little discouraged.I mentioned the other day that my knees were feeling stiff.Yesterday they started hurting a little more so I decided to not do any exercise for 2 days.My knees are feeling better today so maybe by tomorrow evening I will feel like doing at least 1 mile of the WATP routine.
I checked my exercise log to see how long it had been since I took a day off from exercising.I was so surprised.I have been exercising 7 weeks straight without a day off.Since I have been adding to my exercise and doing 45 minutes some day I have decided that I better take a day or two off each week to give my body a rest.Sure do miss it though since exercising has become a daily routine.
Windy...I started doing the WATP Super Challenge 4 mile walk routine 3 weeks ago.I started at 2 miles and have stayed there.A few miles I have made it to 2 1/3 miles.Really need to work my way up to 4 miles since it is a very intense workout.Right now with my knees bothering me I know it will be quite awhile till I make it to 4 miles.Maybe after I get more weight off it will be easier on my easier to go the whole 4 miles.
Will check back with everyone this evening to cheer you one.Everyone is doing great!!!

Hi Ladies,
I see this hasn't been posted to since July so I hope your still there.
I am 51 this year. I am finding it impossible to lose right now. I lost 40 lbs in 1999 and 2000 but then let the diet slip this summer and gained 14. I have been in ketosis since Sept and actually gained a pound!
I have been using a stepper for 2 wks now. I started at 3 minutes and I am adding a minute a day. It is also behind me in my home office and was dusty. When I get to 30 minutes a day I will start increasing speed. I keep track of steps too. It is making me feel better anyway.
I'm starting to think losing again is impossible. I know I can't let up on the diet tho or I will gain more!
I love this forum it is really letting me vent and giving me ideas.
Personally, I have 3 grown boys, one grandchild, a husband, a dog and a cat. I am keeping a journal you are welcome to peer into or talk to me in.

Hi Sassy- you asked about Body Flex. It is mainly a breathing exercise developed by Greer Childers. Don't know if you ever saw any of her ads on tv or not. She also uses a bar with a band to tense and exercise the muscles. It is good for people who have back trouble and it is done sitting in a chair. When I first started using it I lost several inches. Then another vertebrae went on me and I have to wait till the acute pain passes before restarting exercises. So I kinda yo-yo in and out on this exercise forum. Alice

The chairman of the board came in this morning and asked about my daily walks. He knows how busy I am now that we have downsized but he said that I should get out there and walk, and he joined me. So I did get my 30 minutes in and then this afternoon I went to WalMart to buy the WATP tape ... could not even get a parking space .... but I was on a quest ...hahahah. So I drove over to Target and made my purchase.

With me being only 5ft. my weight is gonna show. But I'm bound and determined to get down.

Hi all- I'm Alice--I live in southern Illinois about 1 hour east of St. Louis. I am originally from northern Illinois- a town called Woodstock- that is where my hubbie and I raised our two children. I am a grandmother of 5- 3 from our blood line and 2 that came as a wedding present when my daughter married a man whose wife had died. I am 63 yo- pushing 64 in a couple of months- am a retired nurse and have back trouble along with joint trouble from chronic lyme disease. I absolutely love to hear all the enthusiasm from you all. Again--WELCOME--and keep up the great work you are all doing. By the way--Aleka is Hawaiian for Alice--A friend of mine went to Hawaii and brought me back a necklace with my name spelled in Hawaiian. Nice Gal Huh??
Ok--Have done my 2 miles for today. I am still sitting here sweating. My hip joints hurt but oh it feels so good when I can sit down!! LOL--Last night I did my Greer Childers and while I am on that subject- Sassy you asked about using the bands--I think they would work great too. I have some of Richard Simmons old tapes--ie Sweatin to the Oldies and think I may pull those out too. JES does several different exercises a day and I may follow her lead and do one of those later on today. I have heard that 2 12-15 minute workouts- Are almost as good as 1 30 minute one so whatever works for you is great. Just start slow.
Have a great day to all of you. Thanks for stopping by my journal Nancy--See you there again soon I hope. Hugs to you all- Alice

I have finally reached the big 50 I have been on Atkins since the end of June and am down 27 pounds. I have more energy and sleep better (not as much snoring hubby says)I think I'll try to do the bike challenge except that I can not measure the distance I'll just keep track of the time. Guess I'll start tonight after dishes. I also have the Gazelle that I can use.

Hi Sandy--Welcom to the forum and our group in particular. Hey--you have done fantastic in your weight loss--keep up the good work.
I have a Gazelle too--only problem I have is that the distance keeper got broke by one of the grandkids. Guess I will do like you and just keep track of the time when I am on it. Haven't used it is quite some time. Maybe I should did that out too. It is much easier on the hip and knee joints I think.
Keep up the good work---Hi everybody else--Nancy--hope your knees are feeling bettr tonight. Alice

Hi Everyone,
Loved the idea of everyone introducing themselves.
I'm Nancy and the one that started this exercise thread. It is so great to have so many women join me in my quest to exercise and get healthy.
I live in the mountains of southern West Virginia in a small rural town of 11,000 people.
My hubby Ken and I have been married 30 years.I celebrated my 53rd birthday a few weeks ago.
So far I've lost 30 pounds on the Atkins WOE.
Decided to add exercise to get more healthy so I started this thread to have others join me in exercising.
I started exercising by riding my stationary bike back in July.It didn't have an odometer so I got a new bike which I love although my rear end gets a little sore from the seat.I was also doing the Sweatin To The Oldies routine.
Three weeks ago my daughter Karen gave me the WATP 4 Mile Super Challenge exercise video for my birthday.I've really been enjoying the routine until a few days ago.My knees started bothering me some.I looked at my exercise journal and noticed that I had been exercising for 7 weeks straight without a day off.
Decided that I better take a day off once in awhile to give my knees a rest.So I took 2 days off and back to exercising today.
Forgot to mention that I stay busy looking after my one and only grandchild Jeremy(2 1/2) during the week while his parents work.I enjoy the time I spend with him.Every day is a new adventure with him:)
Wednesday's Exercise:
Did 2 miles for 30 minutes of the Walk Away The Pounds 4 Mile Super Challenge

Sandy,
I'd like to welcome you to our exercise thread. It's always nice to have new people join us.
Right now we are working on a challenge to exercise at least 30 minutes a day till the end of the year.We just started the challenge on Sunday. You are welcome to join us.It's nothing formal.Just a way to motivate each other to get moving.
You have done really well with your weight loss.I am down 30 pounds since starting Atkins WOE in January.
The stationary bike that I had didn't have an odometer.I just watched the clock and timed how long I rode it.You don't have to be too concerned about how far you go just that you are exercising. Please check in and let us know how you did.

Jes,
You did great going the whole 3 miles on the WATP 3 mile routine. You were mentioning that it was a great workout.
The four mile WATP Super Challenge is a great workout too.I really feel that I have had a great workout when I finish.I can only go two miles of the 4 since it is such a high energy workout.Like you I get quite warm doing that routine for 30 minutes.I keep my water bottle close at hand!!

thanks nancy, i appreciate your encouragement. like you i keep my water handy. i think in the new year i will look at adding watp 4 to my collection.i think you are doing great with doing 2 miles of WATP4 considering your knees, giving your knees a rest now and again is probably a good idea, you don't want to overdo it. i was having terrible pain in my knees due to arthritis and my weight. walking and taking glucosamine has greatly improved them, so much that i no longer need painkillers to get through the day so when you say you have knee pain i can understand how you feel--take care of them and rest them when you need to. :)

Hi everyone! My name is Nancy and I was the first one to accept Chloesue's challenge to excercise. I'm 58, a heart by-pass survivor (CABG patch doll club!) have 3 kids and 8 1/3 grandkids, married for 39 11/12 years now. I usually ride my excercise bike at least 30 minutes per day, have several excercise tapes that ocassionally get done and wear a pedometer constantly. Since my Mom has been in the hospital for 9 weeks now, my excercise has consisted of simply walking at the hospital where she is. I have over 200 miles on the pedometer now. I think the idea of having the encouragement of wonderful friends makes moving so much more fun and enjoyable. It's wonderful to have new members joining us...welcome all!

Hi Nance,
I'm 58 too and my mom is in the hospital also. I make sure I do more walking from the parking lot each night when I go.With working all day and going there,I don't have much time for the tape during the week.so I pulled out my old ab machine this morning and figured,I would take at least 5 min and start toning.

I think we are getting a great group here and it is the best that we are all in the same age area.
Gotta tell you about 10years ago I joined a similar group on the Richard Simmons group. There are about 10 of us who still keep in touch and we are from all over.We have decided to meet the ones who could in chicago a couple years back for a weekend and it was so good.We are planning another one in 3004.
Course none of us are doing RS anymore, but we have become a close family now.
With working all day and then the hospital to see my mom,I don't get anytime to do the tape,so will do it on the weekends. I dragged out my old ab machine and did 5min this morning,so will do that,I guess.
I got on the scale yesterday and ugh!!looked like I put on 3 pounds. But I was badly constipated too.First time in so long.
But this morning I got on and :dazzle: now I'm down to 200.
That's 10 since I started YAY FOR ME

Good morning all, it sure is a heated day here at the U of I!!! :( I do not know what the board of trustees will do but I personally hope the Chief is left alone. If he was making fun I might see it but he is loved so much. I have listened for awhile and I had to come in here. I may go down and listen again for a few more minutes.
I truly believe that if he is gone the university will lose a lot of Alumni money and support.
Oh heck this is not what this site is for but it is a very important day for the University.
You all have a good day.

jackie--what i started using 2 yrs ago and have never had a problem since is FLAXSEEDS. i buy them in the health food store and they are only a couple of dollars per lb. at home i grind the seeds with an electric coffee grinder i use for just that purpose. i only grind enough for a couple of days at a time then put what is ground into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. you must do this once the seeds are ground as they will go rancid quickly. i use a heaping tablespoon sprinkled on my salad daily, i like the flavour it adds to my salad and it certainly keeps me regular and good oil content too boot

I did not get to do the WATP but did a 30 minute walk in at lunch again today.
Worked at the Church this evening for 40 minutes getting things set up for our bazaar tomorrow.
The CHief vote was not to be this week. THe lady that put the reolution forth decided to pull it because she did not have the vote she needed to get rid of the Chief. Suposedly they will do this again in March, the 11th the paper said.
We will see what happens then. Would be nice if it could be settled.
Have a busy day tomorrow, all day. I hope to be able to get in here maybe tomorrow evening.

My mom passed away yesterday at 12:08. By the time we got all the arrangements done we realized no one has eaten anything,so I ended up going out with my sister. I didn't eat much tho,but still blew it.
I'm still in shock with this too. She ended up getting a staff infection and by the time I got there she had passed.

Maren,
WATP stands for Walk Away The Pounds. It is Leslie Sansone's exercise videos.
You can check out the videos at www.lesliesansone.com.
She has lots and lots of exercise videos consisting of different routines. You can buy them at just about any discount store such as Wal-Mart,Target,K-Mart etc.
My daughter gave me the Leslie Sansone WATP 4 Mile Super Challenge exercise video for my birthday about a month ago. This is her latest one I believe. It is more advanced and I am a beginner so I do really weel to go 2 miles for 30 minutes of the routine.
The routine cosists of marching in place, moving forward and backwards, kicks, knee lifts and moving sideways. It's a lot of fun and I really enjoy the workout.Arm movements are also included in some of the routine.I use my 2 pound weights during those parts since I really need help in firming up my arms.
Hope you get one of her video or CD's and give it a try.I think you will enjoy it.She has a group of people of all ages doing the routine with her.Only one guy is included and he's in his 70's.What an inspiration he is!!!
Let us know if you get it and try it and how you like it.

Good morning all. Jackie so sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. Not sure that I would react any different it it were my Mom. You are in my thoughts and prayers as well.
Yesterday I did not get any WATP in. Our church had its bazaar and I was on my feet working from 8 AM until 3PM. We served lunch and had a bake and craft sale as well. So walked all day. I think the only time I got to sit down was a potty break. I was stiff and sore when I got home I put laundry on and took a nap.
This morning it is off to Church and we are serving the congregation lunch today and cleanup; so another long day at church. I hope to head outside and take a half hour walk and back to WATP Monday afternoon after work.
Have a glorious day one and all.

Hey Jes,
How do you like the protein power? Between that, Atkins & Herbalife (another low carb/high protein plan) I think that my husband and self are doing pretty good. This low carb/high protein diet seems to be great & now that I can exercise more--the better. I have an artificial knee so I walk with a limp but that doesn't keep me from exercising--just not as much as most.

hi maren, i like the protein power plan very much, when i started LC'ing i followed CALP for one and half years, at first it worked very well for me however towards the end i found i was no longer keeping the "reward meal" balanced so i decided to try atkins & for some reason at that time i gained so after a few months i started to research other plans and decided to follow protein power. i like the idea of dividing the carbs into approx 7-10 per meal and snacks and more depending on the phase of the plan you are in. i also like knowing the minimum amount of protein my body requires daily based on the formula outlined and then fat without limit remembering fat is the densest calorie wise- you don't count calories but just need to be aware ---its all laid out and easy to follow and coffee and a small amount of alcohol is allowed
so those are the reasons i like the protein power plan

When we got home last night I was rather stiff from all of the sitting in the car so I did one mile of WATP then rode my stationary bike for 3 miles and 15 minutes.
I took today off from exercising after such a whacky day yesterday of lots of sitting and exercising.
Monday:Walked 1.55 miles
WATP 1 mile for 15 minutes
Rode stationary bike 3.63 miles for 18 minutes
Tuesday:day off from exercising

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone continues to move around. What a day we have had here.It started raining at midnight and didn't stop till just a little bit ago.We have had just about 4 inches of rain which has caused lots of flooding. We are fine since we live on a hill. The street below us which is nice and flat got a lot of flooding today.
Our daughter worked only two hours today due to the bad weather so we didn't have our grandson all that long.I was able to get some exercise in this afternoon.
Will be looking to hear how everyone is doing.
Wednesday:WATP 2 miles for 30 minutes
(I may ride my stationary bike some this evening)

Good morning all. I don't have anything to report as far as exercising. I want to thank everyone for the loving words that helped give me strenght in the loss of my mom.
I am surprised at the little I did lose thru all this considering everyone kept pushing food at us yesterday, after the funeral. I tried to still eat the right stuff and not drift too far. I took a couple bites of a few desserts,to. Actually,I didn't even want it all.
I'm just thankful I have work to take up alot of my time and I do watch what I eat at work.
Boy! Am I thankful we have this group too.

Hi Everybody--It is great to see Jackie back among us and still doing what she needs to do at this time. I'm also grateful for all the encouragement that everyone gives to each other too. Jes and Closue and our other Nancy--Steaks--have been very faithful to this site and to keeping it going. Thanks gals!!!
Today was my hubbies 68th birthday so have been busy getting his favorite meal and cake done. Also gave him breakfast in bed today.
Well- since no exercises and it is 10:10 here--am off to do my body flex with Greer Childers. It isn't 30 minutes long but it is a type of weights in a sense but using a bar and rubber bands. See you tomorrow if I find the time
Bill and I will be out of town at friends and won't be back till late Monday--so may not see you till Tues. Good night all--Keep up the good work. Alice

Alice,it is good to be back here. I think it is a good thing to try and get back to my so called normal life. Knowing my mom,she wouldn't want me to sit around and be depressed. When certain things hit,I just have to pull up my faith. Like yesterday ,at work,I thought" oh,I gotta call mom tonite and tell her this". Then it hit that I can't do that anymore. So,in my heart I talked to her and made it thru that little hump.
Hope your hubby has a terrific birthday.
You know,Once I get my mom's exercise stuff over here,I'm going to do like
Nancy and switch around doing the bike, the rowing machine and the walking
I'm sure in a few more days my appetite will be coming back, and then I will really have to watch :agree:

Good morning, been awhile since I showed up here at it has been hectic here.
I start Thanksgiving vacation next week so will be few days before I am on here.
We will be going to Branson so will get in lots and lots of walking. I am looking forward to this time by ourselves. Our sons are both at their in-laws this year. Rick really is too far away to come home very often anyway.
I will try to get in here and report exercise for two more days before we leave.

Hi Everyone,
I've enjoyed the talk about Branson. We lived in the St.Louis area for 5 years and made many trips to Branson and really enjoyed our times there. Here in our area we have Pigeon Forge TN which is a lot like Branson but not quite as big.We go to Pigeon Forge at least once a year. It's in the Smokey Mountains area with country music shows, restaurants and lots of outlet malls.
Yesterday we drove to Charleston WV which is a 100 mile drive. We wanted to go to the mall there. We got a lot of Christmas shopping done.We are in a rural area and have a small one story mall near us so it was nice to go to a large 2 story mall.We also found some of their major shopping areas in the outlying areas so we went to a few stores there too.Got a lot of walking done.
Today we were busy watching our grandson so our daughter and son in law could do some Christmas shopping without him.Didn't do any organized exercising today.Thought I would take the day off although I was busy with a 2 1/2 year old.

I am back:)
Sure have missed all of you.My computer is messed up.My daughter's boyfriend likes to work on computers.I had given him my old computer that wasn't working right when I got this computer about a year ago.Now my current computer is messed up.He fixed my old computer so I'm using the system to it while he takes the system of my newer computer and works on it.He thinks that my computer was hacked which caused it to have many problems.
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.I've continued to exercise although I was very disappointed to not have access to my low carb friends here.
We have had 4 inches of snow since yesterday afternoon. It looks so pretty outside. It's all of 17 outside so we have had a big drop in temperatures.
Another thing....I had a hard time remembering the name of our web site.I had a short cut on my computer desk top. When I could no longer use my desk top on the other computer I was lost since I couldn't remember what the name of the site was.I even went to a similar site but couldn't get in with my username and password, lol.I have learned my lesson and now have the web site address written down.
Got a little long here.Just wanted y'all to know that I have missed you a lot and so glad to be back!!!

I don't do winters too well,Jes. In fact,I have what is called SAD and I take Zoloft thru the winter season.SEASONAL ASSOCIATIVE DISORDER.
My dr. discovered this in me about 10yrs ago. I was always so depressed and a complete basket case during the winter with no sun light and cold dreary days,I never knew it.

Hi Everyone,
How is everyone doing?I got some stationary bike riding in today.
Since tomorrow is the beginning of a new month do y'all want to do another challenge or keep it informal and just post and encourage each other with exercising?
Jackie...it's so nice to see the messages from you.How are you doing?I wanted to mention that I read on the Internet that St.Louis Mills shopping area has opened.I couldn't believe that they actually built such a huge shopping complex on the Missouri Bottoms land. When we lived in the Florissant area for 5 years I can remember how the Missouri Bottoms area flooded really bad.My hubby took drove through that area as a short cut to the Earth City area where he worked at the time. When it rained hard and flooded he had to take the long way around to work.

Hi Nancy,great to see you.
Yes St. Louis Mills is open, but I'm waiting for the crowds to die down a bit.
I don't think the roads flood that much anymore since things have been built up around there.
I still haven't had time to get my mom's exercise stuff, but hope to get over there soon.
I did such heavy lifting and cleaning in the basement that I've been too sore and stiff to do much. Had to pull out the friendly heating pad for my hips and that helped.
I'm hoping to come home from work tonite and start doing something.
I'm restarting at least a week of induction today, and luckily I haven't gained antyhing back. I was sure surprised tho because I felt so bloated and thought fore I had gained.

Nancy: we are suppose to have sleet today and then some snow. I forgot to take my Zoloft lastnight, but I think I will be fine because it is in my system. I was so tired when I got home that I went to bed real early.I didn't sleep all that great because I ended up eating a piece of peach cobbler with whip cream and when I eat sweets beofre I go to bed,I have wild and crazy dreams.
I went to this one web site that adds up your carbs when you put in what you eat and from what it says IMy friend,Linda and I aren't even getting in 10 in a day let alone 15-20. I don't know why,but I'm not hungry either. My breakfast is a sausage egg and cheese from McDonalds minus the bun. Then our lunch is usually salads. About 4 if I get that shaky feeling I grab a low carb bar. If I'm hungry when I get home,I just grab whatever meat my daughter has because I can't have the potatoes and corn and breads. But usually,I'm busy doing something and then so tired I go right to bed.

Actually,I came home and took my Zoloft. I was really depressed with my mom and stuff most of the day and I think it's partly the dreary weather and getting closer to Christmas. This one is gonna be a hard one.
Then I found my best friend who is 78 is in the hospital with a colon infection. But the good news is she will get better.
Didn't do well on Atkins today, because I just really wasn't in the mood to eat.
I ended up eating about 3tablespoons of chilie tonite, mainly because I knew I had to eat something.

Good Morning Ladies,
Didn't get on here yesterday.Since I decided to take the day off from exercising I forgot to check in with all of you.I have found that it does my body good to take a day or two off each week from exercising. My knees start to ache too much if I do too much exercising.
Some of you were talking about the walking you do at work.I look at it this way,any kind of moving such as walking, climbing stairs,an exercise routine or using any kind of exercise equipment should count for exercise that day.As long as we are moving we are exercising.
Alice mentioned all of the walking she did while Christmas shopping.I know what she is talking about.Since I have been on this WOE for almost a year I haven't minded all of the walking when Christmas shopping.I think of it as getting exercise.I haven't tired out at all while Christmas shopping which has been rather nice.I usually get really tired of walking after an hour or two.
Please don't feel like you haven't exercised if you get a lot of movement in during the day.You are MOVING which counts towards your exercise for the day.I don't want anyone to get down on yourself for not "exercising" if you feel that it has to be a certain kind of exrecise routine.
What a day we had yesterday with the weather here.It wasn't as bad as areas East of us though. All of the schools were closed. We had snow, sleet, freezing rain then some rain.We ended up with 2 1/2 inches of snow which is almost gone due to the rain.Today it's suppose to start snowing again. We may get 4 inches of snow through tomorrow afternoon.
No exercise to report yet today. My son in law is off today. He will be going back on the evening shift next week which means longer evenings for me since our daughter and grandson will be eating with us.
Have a nice day everyone.

Hi nancy. We are getting some of that beautiful snow. Started last night and is still snowing. Too warm for it to do much damage. It is pretty though, borught my camera to work so I could take some pictures of the Quad if I get the time. Busy day Friday is but extra busy today as it is the Awards Banquet and I have been working on that for 6 weeks and today is the day.
Lots of good food, prawns, tenderloin of beef, green beans, pea pods, salads and toppings, rolls, cheesy potatoes, vegetarian lasagna and of course dessert, red velvet cake, dutch apple pie and pumpkin pie.
We will have probable about250-300 people. We worked to get gifts donated and several will win something. It is really a nice thing that work does for us here.
Have a good day all, the Christmas music on the radio is sounding good!!!!

It's been another busy weekend so I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday. Our daughter Kimberly has come down with that awful flu that has been going around. She is the only one in the family that didn't get a flu shot.Hope the flu shot keeps the flu away from the rest of us.Grandson Jeremy got a flu shot too since the flu has been hitting children pretty hard too...
I continue to exercise plus lots of walking doing Christmas shopping.
We had some snow on Friday and Saturday but it didn't amount to all that much so by today everyone was able to get out and about.
Linda...How was the banquet.Hope you had a good turn out.Sounds like the food was going to be really good.

Good Evening Everyone,
I continue to exercise just about daily even if I don't get around to posting about it.I have cut back WATP to twice a week since it was bothering me knees.I ride my stationary bike the other days.
I've done really well these past two weeks since Thanksgiving watching closely what I eat. Will be nice to get back to my lowest weight from about a month ago.Hope to do that before January 1st so that I can have a little over 30 pounds lost for the year.
I took my monthly measurements a little while ago.I am only down 2 inches since I last measured a month ago. That's because I continue to exercise even though my weight has fluctuated this past month.
I need to do more arm exercises.I noticed that my arm measurement stayed the same but I had the best loss in my thighs. That's thanks to all of the stationary bike riding that I do.WATP gives me a good arm workout but it's too rough on my knees to do more often than twice a week.
I am thinking that I might need to buy another WATP routine that won't be as rough on the knees.Do any of you have a suggestion for me.I am now doing 2 miles and 30 minutes of the 4 mile Super Challenge WATP.
This is such a busy time that it is hard to get on here evey evening.I am hoping that after the first of the week that we can all check in more often.
How is everyone doing?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't been around for a few days.I see that 4 days have passed since I last posted.
Things have been quite hectic here. Our daughter has had the flu then our son in law's dad came down with pneumonia and passed away Saturday evening.
We have been busy taking care of Jeremy while our daughter and son in law went to the wake, funeral and burial. Our grandson is only 2 1/2 and too young to attend a funeral etc..
Since our grandson has a cold we have been staying at their house with him instead of bringing him out in this nasty weather.I haven't been home much to get any planned exercise done.
I got some stationary bike riding done today.I have noticed that I can get more miles in during a shorter amount of time which is great.
Our daughter went to the doctor today and was diagnosed with the flu.Jeremy goes to the doctor tomorrow. This was our daughter's planned week off from work.It has been spent with accompanying her hubby to the funeral home etc. even though she really wasn't feeling up to it.Hope she can get some needed rest the remaining of the week that she has off.Her hubby is suppose to return to work on Friday so he will be able to help take care of Jeremy.I am hoping to get some things done around here during that time.
Alice...hope your back is feeling some what better by now.I know all of that bending and squatting has to aggravate your back even more. Please continue to check in with us even if you aren't able to do any planned exercise.
Jackie....Sounds like you do a lot of walking at work which counts for something.Maybe you should get a pedometer to count your steps and the distance you walk during the day.Hope you enjoyed the Christmas program. Please tell us about it.My grandson Jeremy's Christmas party at preschool is Thursday.Would be nice if he could go but don't know how he will be feeling by then.He didn't go to preschool today since he wasn't feeling well.Have you been able to bring the exercise equipment inside the house yet?
Linda....Good for you for getting in that walking during your lunch hour!!
Now that things are settling down I hope to resume my exercising on a daily basis again.
My Exercise:
Saturday:

Walked 1 mile
Sunday:

Nancy, how sorry I am to hear of your daughter and son in law's loss. I sure can relate to what they are going thru. I never knew how hard it is to not only have to deal with a death, but the dealing with the loss around the holidays is really hard, until I lost my mom. I have my good days and boy then some bad days.
You are right to keep the grandson home as young as he is. And on top of all that this darn flu bug has hit so many people all over. We have 2 supervisors out and a lot of other workers and their kids.
The Christmas program was so cute. Ryan who is 9 today was in the play and Brittani who is 10 was in the honor choir. It was called a CHRISTMAS HO DOWN.
So cute. All about the Bubblegum (who was a cowboy dressed in black) bad guy wanting to take Christmas away because he thought no one liked him. then came the candy cane man(cowboy dressed in white with candy canes all over him) showed him people do like thim and the whold town got to have Christmas.
It was so cute.
With me not having much Christmas spirit lately,it did help.
I should take my pedomiter to work.
Hope everyone is staying warm and healthy

Jackie I feel fortunate to have a building big enough to walk around the first floor and get some exercise in. The first few days people looked at me like I was crazy; but now they just nod and wave. If it is not too cold I walk outside around the Quad. I have such a beautiful place to walk.
I will be a litle shy on the exercise for the next few days. My Uncle Jim passed away last night and we will heding to Southern Illinois for his funeral. I will get in what walking I can but not sure how things will play out.
We may not be heading down until tomorrow so will be here postin until I have to go. My Mom is pretty upset naturally but also relieved if that makes any sense. He has been battling cancer and bad lungs for 7 yearws. He was ready to meet his maker and wanted to go. We last seen him Sunday afternoon and I am so glad we took her down.
Nancy take care and hang in there. I guess we will all make it. Our two grandsons have that nasty flu. They had to take the 154 year old to the emergency room Saturday. Now Dylan has it and so does Mommy. Nasty stuff. I am going to see if they need anything before I head off to the dentist this afternoon.
If ylu see the Wright Brothers Memorial on the TV today, that is where we were for our sons wedding. Our beach house was right there. I guess about 2 miles or so. We could look out our sliding glass doors in our bedroom and see it. We climbed it and so did my almost 81 year old Mom. I hope God has blessed me with her grace and goodness. She is some lady!!

Hi Everyone,
Haven't forgotten about all of you.I've come down with a cold so I haven't been on the computer much the last few days.
I've been exercising every day.Don't want to slack off on that or it would be way to hard to get back in to the routine of doing it every day.
Took our grandson to the doctor the other day.He has bronchitis and an ear infection. Our daughter went to the doctor and was diagnosed with the flu.Since I've been around both of them a lot I must have gotten the cold germs from them. It's a head cold with runny nose and sneezing.Don't have a fever or the other symptoms of the flu. It's just a plain ole cold.
We have had a snowy week. The snow started Wednesday and hasn't let up.We have 10 inches now and may get another 2 over night. Our daughter Kimberly sure picked a week to be off for vacation.
For exercise today I shoveled our driveway. It's a double driveway. There were 8 inches of snow on the driveway so I got plenty of exercise.I really enjoyed being outside in the snow and shoveling. My hubby was still in bed so I am quite proud that I did all of the shoveling by myself. We will probably need to do some more shoveling in the morning since it continues to snow.I did notice that the snow shoveling didn't tire me out.Took me an hour to shovel it.Other years after just 1/2 hour I would be worn out.Losing weight and daily exercise have really helped me be in much better physical shape.
JAckie...your grandchildren's program sounded so cute.Jeremy missed preschool on Tuesday since he was sick.Schools were closed on Thursday due to the snow so he didn't have his party at preschool.I'm wondering if they will do anything special when they return to preschool on January 6th.Did you get the snow?
Linda...so sorry to hear about your uncle passing away.Hope you have had a safe trip.Sorry to hear that your grandsons have the flu.We took Jeremy to the doctor since he had the cold.WE didn't hear the wheezing but the pediatrician did.He is on an anti-biotic and another medicine. He has 2 weeks to get well before preschool starts again.
My exercise:
Wednesday:
Rode stationary bike 6.42 miles for 30.58 minutes
Thursday:
Rode stationary bike 6.07 miles for 31.09 minutes
Friday:
Shoveled 8 inches of snow off of our driveway for 1 hour.

Thank you, all of you, for the expressions of sympathy for losing my Mom. The last few months have been such an emotional roller coaster that it will take some time to get my life back under control again. She had suffered so much that it was a tremendous relief to have her in a safer, kinder and gentler place where pain and trauma could no longer touch her. So, although I will miss her terribly for the rest of MY life...I also thank the Lord for calling her home to His arms when He did. She truly had suffered enough and was ready for the journey 'home'.
Hope all of you continue to moooove during this season of 'over-eating' temptations. I will rejoin you as soon as I can. Thanks again for all of the support...you guys are the best!!
