Maureen,
My grandson is in the Early Intervention program also.Since he was a preemie he automatically qualified for it.Our daughter and her family live about 6 miles from us across the state line in Virginia. The pre-school program is held for special needs children through their county school system. He will be the youngest child attending that primary school, lol.Jeremy still qualifies for Early Intervention but if the pre-school program works well for him he will be signed over to the school system by his Early Intervention coordinator.Jeremy was receiving PT but has now surpassed the milestones for his age and doing great physically. He needs to slow down when he talks. He understands quite a bit but doesn't say as many words as he should at his age.
So glad that your Bradley got the needed services through the Early Intervention program. It is a very worthwhile program for the children and families that need the services.
Will look forward to cheering you on as you ride along with us.

Good morning everybody! Maureen, so pleased you could join us! That's a blow having breast cancer, but we'll all send up prayers for a full recovery for you! Keep us updated, okay?
Holly (I HOPE it was you that asked this question! LOL!) YES! It is possible to excercise too much if you are doing the wrong things. If it is strength training, you need to allow time for the muscles to recover. If it was me, I would go to a gym and ask a trained professional. All good gyms have trainers that can answer those types of questions. This is just my personal opinion...if your excercise leaves you so tired you don't want to move...you're probably doing too much. If your excercise leaves you feeling energized while a little bit tired...it should be about right. That's just the informal gauge that I use.
No bike riding today for me. Just as much walking as I can manage. Will hope back on and peddle tomorrow. Hope everybody has a wonderful day today!

Six days this week, but my Nordi Trac doesn't register on the pedometer ... in any event, I'm a moving fool!!
thanks Nance - I'll check into it ... we may be just plain old working too hard!! :) Our YMCA has a good program and trainers, gotta find the time ... tee hee
Maureen, ref the pulse rate thing:
First take 220 and subtract your age. Your goal is 65%-75% of that number for your "optimum" heart rate (for one minute). Of course, no one wants to stand there for one whole minute ... so just count for 10 seconds and multiply your result by 10. [they say that's more accurate anyway]
[I'm 52. 220-52 = 168. 168 X 65% = 109 / 169 x 75% = 126. Divide either by 6, and my ideal pulse rate range is 18 - 28 for a 10 second count.] I just remember "around 20" and I feel good about it :)
Here we go gang, a whole new week - good luck to all

Dear Holly,
Thanks so much for the info. Hope everyone had a great day. This is silly but I am looking forward to a week of exercising and then getting on the scale. :wiggle:
Some questions for anyone who has answers:
1. How long should you exercise once your heart rate is up where you want it for it to be an effective workout?
2. Do you think riding a bike will have an effect on the mid section?
Hope all of you have a great day tomorrow. Blessings, Maureen

Hey Everyone, I finally made it to the park this a.m. I had my MP3 player with and it really made the walking easier. I vowed to stick at it until the music stopped, and I made it. :yay: A total of 8,400 steps. I feel like I have made a great start to my week. Namcy -- you house has no AC? I don't think we could survive here without it -- often wonder how people existed in the southern states before AC (actually, I think houses were built differently, allowing air flow, and there was always the siesta!)....
Well, it's still hot here, yesterday was in the high 90's (our car thermometer read well over 100) -- today looks to be the same -- walked the 1.2 mile loop at 10AM and still got drenched (not good, returned to my office pretty wet and they keep the AC really cold) -- we'll walk more this evening, with the dogs and maybe just the two of us....

Bonnie, yes our house isn't air condtioned which is the norm here in our area.We are in the mountains where it rarely gets above 90.The warmest it has gotten this summer is 84.I have lived in areas where it gets quite hot and humid in the summer.I believe that the St.Louis area had the hottest summers of all of the places that we have lived.

She was even bleeding through her eyes!! Am just home for a bit to email/call family and fill them in and to shower. (okay...they kicked me out!) Mom is sleeping now thanks to some wonderful drugs and I am going to try to clean up the remnants of the nosebleed here and then head back. Could I ask for special prayers from all of you please? Dear Bonnie,
That is so great to be able to do crunches. I don't think I can bend like that. It must be a sight you doing them in the closet.
Last night went to a church dinner and did pretty good. Didn't have any bread, no lasagne. Just chicken w/ mushrooms, 2 slices of beef, green beans, salad. Then it was desert time. I had a piece of cheescake (smaller then normal) and split a piece of chocolate cake with DH. Took 2 bites and gave him the rest. Way to sweet. I am soooo tired today. I think that could be why. Didn't exercise yesterday but I will make it a point to do some today. Have been in the kitchen much of the day preparing for my childrens school lunches for the rest of the week. They start tomorrow. The sf jello w/ cream cheese mix is a great yogurt substitue and they also liked that pizza. I want to make the flourless chocolate cake for tomorrows desert since it is a tradition (that is ending)for us to go have ice cream on the first day of school. My children have adapted so well to Atkins. I made some lc ice cream and they are enjoying that

Dear friends,
I have gone up 6lbs from that small piece of cheesecake and bite of chocolate cake on Monday. What am I doing wrong. I don't journal since I pick during the day. The things I eat are acceptable. Lately ham is on sale so have been eating that often. Do you think that could be it. At first I thought I was eating too much cream cheese but have been trying to stay within 4 oz. I have only been in ketosis 2 days in the almost 2 months since starting and then it was only slight. I have been drinking between 9 & 12 glasses of water a day. Haven't been on any medication and even started to exercise. I have been telling my daughter that the weight gain is muscle lol. Does anyone have any idea what is going on. I don't want to get discouraged. Starting radiation in mid Sept and would really like to drop a few pounds before starting that. Should I go back on induction?
Nancy, so happy Jeremy had a good day at school. That is very encouraging.
Thanks and blessings to all, Maureen

Maureen,
For what it's worth -- if I eat anything that bumps my weight up, it takes a full 3-4 days to get back to "normal" -- this includes salty foods, the very occasional pizza, etc.
Actually, the day following a wrong food typically doesn't show a weight gain -- it's the 2nd day then peaks about the 3rd, then starts down -- don't know if you'll be the same, nor do I understand why my body acts like this....
VALEWIS
Wed, Aug-27-03, 17:08
There is no way the body can gain that much in real fat weight on so little extra food...it takes 3500kcal's extra to gain one pound. Physics is physics. It is water. I think the ham, which would be salty might be the culprit, plus there would be an insulin spike from eating the sugar so that it is possible some fat was stored...but nowhere near that amount!! You might be very insulin sensitive. I understand that Dr Schwarzbein's book gets into the details of all that...there is a forum here about it all.
Hang on. I just read your statsHave you dropped 11 lbs since joining this month?? That is really quite a bit and probably is going to suffice for a while until your body gets through the normal adjustment period. Read all the threads on the newbies forum that discusses a lot of this. Half that loss would be water, and so eating the ham probably just stored the water back. That is a net loss of 5 lbs. The body can only lose around 3 lbs a month ON AVERAGE...this means that you are probably right on target. One can not lose for months and then drop suddenly...but if you average it over a year, it will be 3 lbs a month. It has taken me just over a year to lose 41 lbs..that is 3 a month. I was on a low glycemic, reduced calorie diet first, and switched to Atkins 6-7 weeks ago- have lost 5 pounds on Atkins, but have lost one inch in girth.
Look at this as a WOL and weigh yourself next month if you have to. Keep up that good exercise and take your measurements.]

Dear Val & Bonnie,
Thanks for the kind words. Had I known it would put 6 lbs. on, I would have really eaten!!! You know my ankles are swollen today. You are probably so right about the salt in the ham. We have actually been on Atkins since the beginning of July. I'm noticing some people are losing lots of weight really fast but some are losing slower so I'm trying very hard not to get discouraged & just stay focused on what the loss would be in a year. I so appreciate everyones support. Blessings, Maureen

Hi all of you wonderful people! Just have time to let you know that Mom is holding her own. She spent about 90% of today sleeping and letting her body heal the Lord's way. We are taking her home tomorrow so she can see her doctor, providing she feels up to the trip. She wanted me to thank each and every one of you for the kind words and prayers. Really touched her that 'complete strangers' would show that degree of concern. I can't convince her that there are no 'strangers' on this site!! LOL!
I have not gotten on the bike but have the pedometer on and am averaging around 8000 steps per day which is around 4 miles per day. I feel that's pretty good under the circumstances so will add them in to the bike stats whenever I have time to figure it all out! I also got in another 10 minutes the last day I rode the bike...whenever the heck THAT was!! Can you tell I am confused?!! LOL!

I've been missing for a few days.Wednesday my hubby had an our of town doctor's appointment at the VA hospital which is a 200 mile round trip.It was in the mid 90's there. We aren't used to that kind of eat.Our grandson goes with us on these trips.Needless to say by the time we got back home we were quite tired.I didn't get any bike riding in at all.
Nance:I am so glad to hear that your mother is doing much better and is now home from the hospital.
Yesterday I rode my bike but when I tried to get on line last night I couldn't get connected for some unknown reason.I was able to get connected right away this morning so I am writing this while grandson Jeremy takes a nap.He has had three busy days. His first day of preschool was Tuesday then he took the out of town trip with us Wednesday then back to preschool yesterday.Today he is all tuckered out.
It continues to be warm here.Yesterday we hit our high for the summer. It was 84 with high humidity. We had some bad thunderstorms come through our area right after I finished grilling some steaks on our grill for dinner.Got them finished just in time.Other times this summer I would be in the middle of grilling and a thunderstorm would pop up out of no where.
I'm looking forward to a three day weekend and being able to sleep past 6 AM.It's getting harder and harder to get up that early since it is now so dark out then.

Hey all you US ladies, can someone tell me what a US size 32 stretch jeans means? I was given a pair but can't figure out whether this is huge, medium or what.....they fit so am curious.
Thanks,
Val

I'm not sure but I think a size 32 is equal to a 12, a 34 a 14 and so forth. I always thought that the 32, 34 etc. were used for men's clothes, and the 12, 14 etc were for women's. but I'm not sure about that, (not that it matters, especially in jeans, men or women's??)

I think their designs were sort of unisex, hence this method. It is helpful to hear those numbers, although the US sizes are generally much smaller than ours...a 12 there would be a 14 here I believe. In any case, it sounds nice, eh. What would be a good size to aim at for a 5'6 1/2 woman?? Should I be trying for size 10's (US)?

I'm 5'8" and I wear a 12 most of the time. In better clothes I wear a 10. (US)

Good morning Ladies! Alice...hope the day is going well for you and Bill!
I have jumped on the bike every spare minute this weekend and have kept track of the miles...just letting them add up instead of resetting the bike to zero. Have NOT kept track of the time spent though. I cannot go more than 19 mph no matter how hard I try...and I can't resist trying once in a while! I am in awe of you who are going 20 and 30 and more mph!!
Starting total 50.1
weekend total 13.4
Today 5.8 miles
New Total 69.3 miles

hey all, Happy Labor Day!!
Hope everyone's recovering and hanging in ... you've all been in my thoughts.
Somehow I twisted my knee - but fear not, we went on our walk anyway. It was just really, really slow ... well, not that slow, but slower than normal. It's probably just "one of those things" and it'll pass.
Last week's mileage was 24 total, right on my personal target. We're active otherwise, but those are things where mileage isn't relevant.
Nummy burgers off the grill coming up [no buns of course!!] ... guacamole on the side with a few pork rinds to round it out. Hope you all have a great holiday.
Stay well,

Good morning. :) Hope everyone is doing well. Well I've been a little sheepish about exercising on the bike. When I first accepted this challenge the bike had been out on my deck for 8 months. DH brought it in. Discovered the other day that a huge spider has been living in it and ventures out at night to spin a web. I know I am mightier that he but I am sometimes getting creeped out. Last night my daughter actually joined me exercising. That pleased me so much. She is totally freaked out about gym. If she misses a class she can make it up only by either walking or running a mile in under 15 mins. Please keep her in your prayers. I am the strongest motivater in the family regarding exercise and I am not very good at that. I will be starting radiation soon and may be too tired to exercise so I'm hoping by then she can motivate me.
It cooled down but is drizzling. I think we will go for a walk in the rain.
Wishing everyone a great day and good health. Maureen

Hey RoseTattoo, I just wanted to tell you that I love that poem about the peanut butter. It is my weakness, totally. My favorite thing to do is mix 2 Tlbs. peanut butter, 2 Tlbs sour cream, and when that's all mixed I stir in 2 Tlbs. Cool Whip. Ahhhhhhhhh absolute heaven. If you are a peanut butter freak, try this. I guarantee you will be having a mishap for sure.

Sorry to hear about the spider in your bike. That would really spook me too.
I will be remembering your daughter concerning her gym class.Hope she realizes that taking gym is really good for her.I was never fond of gym either but I knew that it was good for me and I always gave it my best.I was usually one of the last ones to be picked for a team if that tells you anything.Tell her to hang in there and give it her best.
Please continue to check in with us even if you aren't exercising once you start your radiation. You are a part of our group so we want to cheer you on and hear from you.

thanks to everyone, you have been so supportive during this challenge. the miles that i have completed as of today have taken me from my home to skagway alaska, so that's kinda neat when you look at it that way. i have a long way to go yet and since i found this challenge was the thing that got me going again i am going to go on another journey and this time it will be from my home to anchorage alaska which is approx 700 miles and i am challenging myself to do it by the end of november. i did something similar 21/2yrs ago riding my stationary bike from my home to dawson creek b.c. which is 918 miles but i think it took me closer to 4or 5 months to do.
keep up the good work everyone i am rooting for you all to reach the 100 mile mark--go team go :)

The 101 miles I have ridden takes me to Roanoke Virginia which is the largest town East of us.Still need to decide where I want to venture to next.
Hope everyone stays here with us.I will be cheering everyone on.Maybe after we finish this one up we can think of another challenge to motivate all of us to keep moving.

Chloesue, I just spent about a half hour reading the first 6 or 7 pages of this thread and remembering how this challenge was born. Ladies...we've come a Loooong way in a short time! There were several mentions of doing this as a 'time spent' challenge to make it more fair for the treadmeill and mall walkers. How does everybody feel about our next challenge being geared more to that so it evens the playing field somewhat? Don't want Rose and Leah feeling left out or left behind. LOL.
I got back on the bike this afternoon and got up to 8.8 miles for the day so my total is now up to 82.3 miles. A couple more days and I will be at....MOM'S house! How's that for keeping me motivated?!
I haven't had this much fun in a long time....have all of you to thank for that! :yay:

i too will continue my excercise routine until this challenge is completed and another started. i keep track of my individual exercises in my log book, walk aerobics, stationery bike, walk and mall walk. i will jot down just the daily total here as a way to keep me going.
i registered again yesterday with the city's "hearts in motion walking club", this lets me use the college to walk in from 8am to 8pm. this is great for winter walking when the streets are too icy or the weather is too cold to walk outside(which is just around the corner here-below freezing this morning) you get a card that you log time and distance and date & turn in every time you complete 50 walks(any distance you can do at a time is fine)each card turned in puts you in a higher level and stickers and pins are given as incentive etc. the program runs from sept to june and i'm starting my 6th yr with the program and have logged 800 walks.
nance and nancy congrats on the miles logged on your stationery bikes and hope everyone else on this challenge is able to fit some excercise in their day

Nancy,
I've had that problem with my bike and it's a real pain in the .... well, you know. I just saw this really neat bike seat in Walmart - it's a gel-seat. I got one for my non-stationary bike and it seems to make quite a big difference. If you're gonna ride, you may consider it. They aren't too difficult to install, cost a few bucks, but WELL worth it in the end ... :p forgive the pun.
Stay well and keep moving!!

nancy as holly says the gel seat may be the answer for you, i had one on my old stationary bike however the seat on the stationary bike was a little larger than a regular bike so i just duct taped in on, worked ok and gave me a little more comfort. i now have a recumbent bike with a full seat with a back on it--great comfort.

Oh that's how the seat was on the first stationary bike I had Cholesue! Ouchers! This new bike...I guess 8 months old isn't 'new' any more, is it?...has an opening right where the tail bone fits. Super comfortable and I can ride without much pain for 30 to 45 minutes. I would love to try a recumbent bike like Jes has, but the grandsons bought this one and 'price' was definitely their guiding factor! LOL! I would definitely find a way to change to a gel seat or something more comfortable.
Holly...that sense of humor is contagious! I'm still chuckling over your post...and, hey! Why CAN'T you use the remodeling as excercise on here? Get a pedometer and wear it everyday and mark down your miles from it! The object of this challenge was just to mooooove! That's moving! It counts! I find that wearing this pedometer makes me 'greedy for steps' as joizenew says! Each day I find myself taking more of the long ways instead of the short cuts and I'm managing to build the mileage up to a fairly respectable amount. LOL!
Good luck Holly! I'm off here now to go 'peddle and pray'. Broke my rule of never coming online until I had done my ride. Had to dash off an email to Mom for her 80th birthday today though....and that was at 5:30 and I'm STILL on here! Bad, bad girl!

Hey everyone,
well yesterday I didn't get to the park so I went into work early to the fitness center. I wore my pedometer and used the treadmill for 1/2 hour. The equipment at the fitness center is pretty beat up and make shift. Anyway, this treadmill is very wobbly and most of the time I had to hang on to keep from losing my balance. When I got done the pedometer register 17,450 steps! Of course that's in error, :nono: but wouldn't it be nice? :agree: I guess the wobbling kept the thing from being accurate. (none of the gauges work on this treadmill so it doesn't show distance to time or anything) So then I got back on and counted my steps for one minute, did the math, and came up with 4,450 steps for 1/2 hour. So now when the weather is bad I can just get my steps in on the treadmill. I did the strength training again yesterday and sad to say, it didn't take away my back pain. However, I think that I'm on the right track since it doesn't make the pain worse, so as I build those muscles maybe the pain will go away someday. I've been doing really well as far as what I've been eating, I just have to limit my treats to one day on the week end. Whatever I want for one day, then none for the next six. I think that will work as long as I get rid of the leftovers after that one day. Well today is 'Hump day' and payday......... :yay: :yay:

Joyce, I can see you struggling to maintain your balance on that rickety old treadmill...LOL! That would be worth the extra 13,000 steps just to keep from falling over or off!
I have half my daily bike ride in already. Will do the other half later today, but WILL do it! Also have my pedometer on...that and my glasses are the first things I grab when I wake up! Will let it register the balance of my days' activities. What a blessing it has been! Makes me AWARE of movement now and I find myself parking even further away from stores and always choosing the LONG way instead of the usual shortcuts. It's literally an improved 'string tied on the finger' reminder in my life now! Best fifteen dollars I've spent all year!
Hope everybody has a wonderful Wednesday and that it includes lots of moooooving!

Thanks everyone for the suggestion of a gel seat for my stationary bike.I bought a gel seat cover today at Wal-Mart.It's a little too small for my seat but will tape it down and see how that does.
I kept it on top of the seat while I rode the bike this evening. It worked its way off once.Sure made a big difference having it on the seat.I was able to ride without as much discomfort.I will be able to tell the difference tomorrow when it comes time to get back on the bike. That's when it's bothered me the most.
It was rather funny when I was at our local Super Wal Mart trying to find a gel seat for the bike.I was all over the sporting goods department. That was the most time that I had ever spent in that department.I was laughing to myself and thinking that this must be how a guy feels when they are in a department of a store that women mostly frequent.I have never seen so much fishing and hunting stuff in all of my life.Come to find out the seats weren't even in sporting goods department of the store.I had to ask a sales clerk.I was finally told that the bike accessories are near the bike display in the store. So I ventured to that area and low and behold finally found the seats.Hope I don't have to venture into that sporting goods department again any time soon.Don't care to look at any more camping, fishing or hunting accessories any time soon!!!
I managed to ride the bike 6.25 miles with out as much discomfort.

I am curious, if you don't mind. What would you classify as a "treat"? I'm sure everyone has their favorite and I'm just wondering what "does it" for each of you.
I suppose a treat is whatever makes you feel guilty after you eat it ... We've been low-carbing for 4.5 years and now with all the new products and the sugar alcohol debacle, things are getting more and more complicated ... ie; what is the REAL carb count. It's enough to drive a grown woman to cheesecake.
Speaking of cheese cake, that would probably be one of my favorites. I also make an desert crisp using the ever versatile chayote squash that is wondermous ... think apple crisp, topped with a little cream .. oh my
We're off to the mall walk then gonna check out a new store. Browsing and shopping sure puts on the extra mileage, and that's a good thing :yay:
Stay well,
Holly

Hey Mizholly, My idea of a real treat is the fudge, (when I feel like working to make it) and when I don't I just mix up 2Tlb peanut butter, with 2 Tlb sour cream, then stir in 2Tlb cool whip. Tastes like icing on a cake. And my best treat of all is cheesecake. I like anything creamy, not dry, so I have no problem avoiding cake.

Hi Ladies!
I'm new to this whole scene. I'll turn 52 on Tuesday, and, as luck would have it, that's the anniversary (first anniversary) of my very last period. I was married to one man, twice, for a combined nearly 30 years, but were divorced and actually, I'm getting married the end of October. I've been feeding my fiance (and myself, in the process) too well, and I've put on fifteen pounds since he moved in, in the spring. So here I am. I used to own a treadmill, but I prefer walking, so I am. I also created a "dance video" from a bunch of VH1 videos I really love; I use that during the few months when weather here is less than optimal (although I'm a weather-baby, living in Southern California.)
I've been blessed with relatively few hot flashes (fingers crossed), but yes, I've noticed the memory thing..that, and just being more "ditzy" than usual.
Anyhow, I'm working up this first week to 30 brisk minutes of walking 4-5 days a week. Once I'm on a roll with that, I'll progress up to 45 min. 4-5 times a week.
I'm "in." :)

Hi guys! Welcome Gwennie! We are just in the process of finishing up a 100 mile challenge and will be starting another one soon. Holly is still walking but most of us cheated and rode our bikes! You're welcome to jump in and join our efforts any time.
Holly, I think of a 'treat' as anything that I would not eat in large quantities, but eat in small bits and savor the flavor. My favorite is Russell Stover sugar free mint patties. Mmmmm...I could eat a bag of them at one sitting...but they 'talk' back...if you know what I mean! LOL! I am forced to limit them...darn it! And...you're doing great on your walking! WooHoo! Go Holly! :D :yay:
I've committed to keep moving so here's todays numbers. Now...bear in mind I had a terrible tense day waiting for news about my Mom and I spent the day riding furiously, then running around outside so I wouldn't think too much! I'm proud of the numbers though! :D
TEAP Challenge:
11.6 miles/45 minutes
10,145 steps/ 4.94 miles
Total 16.54 miles !! WooHoo!

Hey Gwennie - Welcome aboard!!
Thanks Nance, I sure appreciate the support. Lots of steps and lots of work today. We're just about done with the remodelling and now comes the putting all the books back ... talk about weight training.
Added another 4.30 today, 89.64 ... I told you it would take me FOREVER. But forever is better than never, eh?
Stay well all,

Good Morning Friends,
Thought I would check in early since I didn't get around to it last night.I was so tired last night.Getting up at 6 AM during the week really wears me down.Didn't have a 6 AM wake up last week since son in law was off on vacation. Now I need to get back in the routine of getting up early.Since I was so tired yesterday I didn't have much energy.Only managed to ride my bike for 3 miles instead of 6.Hope to do better today.Still, that's pretty good considering I ride my stationary bike every day and don't take any days off.Another thing that might be bothering me is that it is getting dark by 8 now.I really miss all of that day light in the evenings.Once it starts getting dark I feel my body slowing down in the evenings.
Gwennie.....Welcome to our group.I am 52 but will be turning 53 in about a month. You were talking about your time of the month.About two weeks ago I had a nice surprise when my time of the month decided to make a surprise visit.I hadn't seen it since February.I haven't experienced any hot flashes but I have a hard time handling hot weather.I believe my internal thermastat has been turned up a few notches.Sure glad our summer was rather mild.
Nance.....I also adore those Russell Stover sugar free peppermint patties.I keep the little bag in the freezer and eat them frozen. What a refreshing snack that is...yummy!!!
Holly...you are doing great. We are all cheering you on.

Where is Everyone? Thought there would be lots of posts since I am late posting how I did today.
I watched the Date Line 2 hour special on NBC about Dr.Phil's new weight loss emphasis and book he will be promoting during his 2nd season which starts soon.I have bought the book. There is a lot of really good weight loss advise in it but I will not be using the nutritional plan that he advocates.
I did much better about riding my stationary bike today.I rode it for 6.52 miles.
How is everyone doing?

Good morning,
I haven't posted here in a little while because I stopped exercising for a week. Don't know why, just not motivated. Biked yesterday so I felt worthy enough to come back on and say hello. I'm almost done with the challenge.
I would just like your opinion if my bike is working properly. When I pedal it reads between 50 & 60 mph and in 20 minutes I can go 12-14 miles but I have been subtracting 3 miles everytime because it seems off compared to everyone elses. This was my neighbors bike so don't have any instructions. The tension is probably set in the middle - no numbers you just turn the dial. Does this sound right or should I continue to subtract mileage when done.
Thanks for any help you can give and its good to be back.
Blessings, Maureen

Yesterday I was in Walmart and looked at the sugar free candy. Well, they have the Russell Stover peppermint patties. They are so good. Great idea to put them in the freezer. They were only $1.50 a bag. I need to go back for more since I only got one bag and that was our dessert last night. They also have the Hershey chocolates that are sugar free. Any other recommendations?

 streeeeetch.....'morning ladies. :p Got bumped off line last night about the same time my body gave up so didn't make it on here to post my excercise for the day Did a combination of bike and steps again for 10.2 miles.
Maureen, I doubt if ANY of the odometers on our stationary bikes are accurate, but, since the cheetah can only run at 47 to 70 miles per hour I would guess that yours is quite a bit off! Even when I peddle the fastest I can without tipping my bike over..I can only get to just over 20 mph. Whose is right? Who knows? Better questions...who cares? :D If we change these challenges to 'time' oriented ones...it doesn't matter, does it? It levels the playing field for each and all endeavors and is a lot more fair IMHO. The absolute, bottom line is for all of us to encourage each other to MOVE!
Hope everybody has an active and happy weekend.

Hey all,
Glad to see some more postings, I was beginning to think I was lost in space
Did 12,259 steps yesterday - woof .... no wonder I slept so well. According to my pedometer, that's 5.03 miles, total to date: 94.67 (she said, creeping toward the finish line ... )
We also watched Dr. Phil, the man is quite brilliant. :agree: I was very pleased to see that the seven concepts he was talking about (all except the food, of course) are things we now do in our way of living and the relationship to food. Ah yes, the separation of food and soul.
Today's our strength/flexibility day - so mileage will be minimal. Although, we will be lugging hundreds of pounds of books back into our newly remodelled office, that's gotta count for something, eh?
Hope y'all have a good weekend and don't hesitate to get up off yer butts and MOOOOOVE.:wiggle:

Ok. I checked my bike and it isn't mph but rpm's. Ooops. As you said it's that we encourage one another to move. I think our goal is to be healthy and this is a great way to do it. This bike was my neighbors and it was outside for 8 months so I was trying to check the accuracy of it. I don't enjoy exercising (right there with cleaning the toilet) but since I have to, I like to challenge myself by maybe going faster or adding more tension, or increasing the mileage, etc. I am sorry if I offended anyone. Didn't mean to. You didn't offend anyone, don't be silly!!
I agree, by the way, when I started exercising I think I would have PREFERRED to clean the toilet ... anything to NOT exercise. But now, as strange as it sounds, it's almost (repeat, ALMOST) second nature.

Hi Everyone,
Got my bike riding in today.I am trying my best to ride at least 30 minutes a day which is usually at least 6 miles depending on how fast I peddled. When we change the challenge for time instead of miles I want to challenge myself to ride my bike longer than 30 minutes a day.
Today I rode 6.12 miles
Maureen...so glad you have come back.I have missed hearing from you. Please don't even think that you have offended anyone.None of us are experts by any means. We are encouraging each other to move. All of this encouragement has helped me keep focused to ride my stationary bike every day.
Riding my bike has become second nature to me also.I have seen the results from riding my bike for 2 months now so I am very motivated to keep at it.

Joyce,
Thank you for the prayers for my hubby. It wasn't anything serious yesterday. He is a type 2 diabetic. He had to go to the diabetic clinic at the VA hospital and have his glucose meter readings downloaded. They have him come in twice a year to do the readouts to track how he is doing.
He is doing better with keeping his readings under control but he needs more will power when it comes to sweets.I can resist them but he has problems with that area of eating. He did really well when we first started on low carb way of eating and lost about 30 pounds.I am afraid that he has gained a few pounds back.He sees his primary care doctor at the VA hospital next Wednesday.I'm afraid that his doctor isn't going to be too happy with him since my hubby has gained back some weight that he worked so hard to lose earlier this year.

Surprised to stop by this late and there aren't any posts for today.Hope everyone is continuing to move, move move!!
It was really hard to get those peddles moving this evening but I managed to ride my bike 7.24 miles.
My 28 month old grandson Jeremy was a very active toddler today so by the time evening came I was rather tired and still needed to get moving on my bike. The first mile was rather hard but after that it got easier for me.
With all the encouragement here it gives me the push to ride my bike especially after days like today when my grandson is rather active and keeps his Nana(me) on her toes.

Hi all you wonderful ladies! Just in town for a quick update and pick up clothes, pay bills and head back out. Mom is finally responding! Hallelujah! They hope to get her off the ventilator today or tomorrow and maybe out of ICU in a couple more days.
I am still wearing my pedometer and we (siter, brother and I) make it a point to leave the hospital building and walk the grounds for at least a few minutes every two hours.
The setting is gorgeous! There are about 10 buildings of every medical specialty you can imagine and all landscaped grounds. Sits on a hillside with gently sloping grounds...lots of levels and stairs to climb and work out on! Gorgeous Russian Orthodox church spires in the distance in brilliant gold sheathing. The leaves are turning colors...splendid place to be ill! In the 3 days I have been there I have managed to put almost 12 miles on the pedometer. I'm not starting at zero each day...just letting the steps build.
I appreciate your waiting for me for the next challenge...but please don't let me hold up the progress. You guys go ahead and get a running start and I will bring up the rear...okay? I would feel better doing it that way so I don't slow down anybody's progress!
Love you guys!! You are the absolute BEST!

I haven't checked in for a few days but I continue to ride my stationary bike daily.
We had a run in with a deer on Wednesday. My hubby was driving and our 29 month old grandson was strapped in to his car seat in the back of the car. What a scary thing to happen. The only damage was a shattered windshield which was replaced the next morning.I am so thankful that my grandson didn't realize what had happened. We had to stay calm so that we would upset him.Thankfully hubby was able to drive the car back home.We were 45 minutes from home when it happened.
Our daughter has worked some over time during the week so we have had our grandson longer hours. That cuts in to my computer time plus I want to get my bike riding in too.
Since I haven't checked in since Tuesday I will post how I have done since then:
Wednesday:rode bike 6.05 miles
Thurs.:Rode bike 3.07(we had grandson over night so I didn't have the time to ride as long as I would have liked)
Fri.:Rode bike 7.19 miles
Sat.rode bike:7.60 miles
Sunday rode bike:3.50 miles so far...will ride more later
Hope to hear how everyone is doing.

Hi Nancy! I'm new here on this list, been doing Atkins since Jan 03, lost about 25 lbs, stalled or plateaued then got very discouraged. Yours was the first post I read, I also have 2 adult daughters and a 4 yo granddaughter.
For me it's either up or down on the scale, never do I maintain so I knew it was just a question of time before I gained and sure enough I gained back three lbs, I am so bummed about that.
I was lowering my calories like crazy then the moderator suggested I don't do that, that if anything I should up the cals, but I still can't up the carbs.
I have to say I have been on and off diets my whole life and am really tired of it. This has to be the last one for me, 'cos if I give up now, I don't think I would have the strength to get back on.
I guess you could say I am hanging by a thread right now.
But I'm still here so I guess there is always hope.
Tomorrow I will begin another round of induction and I won't count calories so much.
BTW I am 49 not quite 50 yet, but I feel like I belong here anyway...
Thanks for listening!

Maria,
Thanks for stopping by.So nice to have new friends join us on our journeys to get healthier.
Hope you will join us in our quest to get some exercise in our daily lives.Right now we aren't doing a challenge. We just finished our first challenge. We challenged each other to log 100 miles of movement be it by walking, riding a bike or whatever.
I ride my stationary bike for my daily exercise. These ladies really keep me motivated to ride my bike daily. Some days are harder than others.
One of our faithful members,Nance, is at her mother's bedside so we aren't going to start another challenge until she returns to us.Our next challenge will more than likely deal with our time exercising instead of miles.
I know what you are saying about going up or down the scale and not maintaining. That is the same way with me.I have been on this WOE since January just like you.I am down 25 pounds but can't seem to get the scales to go any lower.I started riding my stationary bike back in July and I can see the difference it has made since I continue to lose inches even though the pounds aren't going down.
Have you thought about starting a journal?I noticed that you don't have a journal started. It helps to have a journal to write down your thoughts about you day so others can visit and encourage you.
Hope you will come back and join in the fun.

Hi y'all,
Nice to hear from everyone and welcome aboard Maria!!
We're keeping up the good fight and the 'good moving' everyday ... although it's been harder than usual. Those of you with pets will understand, our 13 year old kitty, KC, has lukemia and she's been having a pretty serious flare-up, so I'm out of my mind and just about useless. But, I keep the faith and hope for the best.
One day at a time and as I like to say, one step at a time, eh?
Stay well,

Hey Gang! Blew into town this afternoon for a short visit...back tomorrow to Mom. Just HAD to stop and say how much I miss all of you! I also INSIST that you start the next challenge without me. It looks like Mom's hospitalization is going to be long term. Her lungs are so weak she just cannot breathe without the ventilator so is still on it in ICU after 15 days now. SIgh. Her heart surgery is healing and doing fine...just the lungs not cooperating for now. Poor thing is so bummed, too.
Sis and I are still walking most every day. Now have 99,722 steps or 48.77 miles on the pedometer and will keep track of it until Mom is HOME!!! Some days we do really well. Other days my hips or feet flare up and I cannot do what I want so go slow that day. But...I mooooove every day!
Hope all of you keep up the routine and stay healthy. I cannot wait until I have my life back and Mom restored to health. Until then I will settle for dropping in once a week or so and telling you guys how darn much I miss you!! LOL!
Love you guys!

Good morning TOFF's, I have been very sick with these ear infections so my routine is off. I finally went to the clinic and got medication that really makes me sleep a lot. But the good news is I am seeing some improvement. Not as much as I would like though, no patience when it comes to being sick. Missed two days of work and that means no pay. Arghhh...
I am finally admitting that my peanut butter, sour cream and cool whip goodie must be given up. It makes me sick to my stomach every time. It's probably about 10 carbs or so, but I didn't think that was enough to cause sickness. I don't know what it is but I can't be in denial any longer. 5 minutes of pleasure and 3 hours of upset stomach.

Good Evening Everyone,
I am finished with my exercise earlier this evening than most evenings.Glad I already have it behind me.It has really cooled off here.We have our heat turned on but we don't keep it all that warm in the house.I am finding with the heat on I start to get rather warm while riding my stationary bike.I am almost tempted to turn the ceiling fan on.I am so used to having it on when I am riding so maybe that would be a good way to keep me a little cooler.
Hope to hear eveyone's thoughts concerning the next challenge...if we should wait for Nance or not.So far Jes and I are in favor of waiting.Hope to hear from everyone soon.

Thoughts on a Short Challenge:
Since Nance wants us to continue to exercise while she is gone I thought that we might do a short challenge to get ready for a bigger challenge when she is back with us.
I was thinking that maybe we could challenge each other to exercise and move at least 30 minutes a day. This doesn't have to be formal exercise. It could be just doing your every day moving plus adding a little here and there to get at least 30 minutes of movement in a day.
We could do it for a week and see how we do.What do y'all think of that idea?

I have noticed the last few days that my bike riding has been easier for me.I am really wondering if it has to do with the fact that I am more rested. We haven't had our grandson to watch since last week. His daddy is no longer working over time so he is back to working his four ten hour shifts.I haven't had to get up at 6 AM yet this week.Getting up at 6 plus keeping up with a 29 month old really tires me out then I still have my bike riding to do in the evenings.I might not ride as much the rest of the week since we will have Jeremy again starting tomorrow.

Ladies,
I think that I have you all beat--age wise that is. I'm 55--o.k. 541/2, have 4 grandchildren, 3 surgeries on one leg in 13 months resulting in a "total knee replacement" and ready to accept any challenge that you throw at me. My husband and I just bought our first "Fifth Wheeler" and I have to be ready to climb hills, go slopping through the mud and whatever else a camping area shoves at you. Plus just going up & down stairs is a challenge so I am riding my stationery bike 3 times a week, lifting weights twice weekly and walking up and down our private drive two or three times daily (it is approx. 1/2 mile long). This forum sounds like what I need to give me a boost. So lets boost each other and prove to those young ones that we may be in our fifties but we can still kick butt!!

Hello Ladies! Just have time to check in before heading back to the hospital and Mom. She is finally out of ICU and off the ventilator after 22 day ! Now it is a slow process of getting the fluid retention under control and get her strength built up so she can finally get clear out of the hospital. The surgeons have a couple more procedures they want to do and then say she should be able to go home. That may happen as early as this coming week!
Sis and I are still walking around the hospital, but I don't do as much as before. Have a bad right foot that had to be treated by the doctor and a swollen left knee from favoring the bad right foot. SIgh! We have 132,773 steps or 66.03 miles in the 3 and a half weeks we've been doing this. I'll settle for that for now!
Good for all of you to go ahead with a short challenge while I am gone. That makes me feel so much better! I don't need a guilt trip on top of everything else right now! LOL! Unless it would be considered excercise to carry it??!
Carry on and mooooooove it Ladies! LOL!

Oh yes, Nance,
Carrying the weight of a guilt trip (especially a "good one") DEFINITELY counts as exercise. Even better are the hundreds of steps you're racking up - way to go!
Glad to hear your Mom is improving!! Paul & I are beginning to adjust to our loss, one day at a time.
We didn't walk today, but I compensated by doing several hours of very heavy house work - you know, (scrubing showers, washing outside windows, sweating and all that. YUCK!!)
So, we'll call it 2 hours toward our mini-challenge.
Hope all is well!!

Ladies,
I did 18 minutes of exercising on the bike this morning but it is raining so I don't know if I will get my walks in or not. If not I may do more bike riding. Walking is my biggest downfall. After cleaning the house all day, these "old" bones just want to say "whoa" but if I want to lose weight and get in shape for camping, I guess I'll have to stick to it! Sure wish our private drive was a little more even.--Oh well!!
I will have to get "Sweatin to the Oldies". I do my exercises to a "Pure Disco" cd but the songs are getting to be a little tiresome. I don't exercise on the week-ends as that is the time my husband and I can enjoy whatever--so I go at it hard during the week. Hope eveyone is o.k. and doing well.

Hi--Finished journaling in my journal for the night--Day 7 doing Greer Childers Body Flex has been completed only once which is about 15 minutes. Think I would do better if I did it twice a day--but for now--am just getting re- oriented to doing exercise. Hope everyone is doing great today. Alice

Hi All- Late posting--not feeling too well tonight--sore throat and bothering my right ear. Anyway--Today is day 9 for me exercising with Greer Childers. Lost another 2&1/2 inches this week but no more weight. Have been at 221 for 3 week straight now but am still happy with the inches lost. Hope you all have a great weekend. Alice

I haven't been able to check in with all of you since Wednesday. We had our grandson over night Thursday since our daughter was out of town for training for her job.She is a CPS worker. She picked Jeremy up around 7 last night.Around 8 I get a phone call that she has to go out on an emergency CPS call since she is the CPS worker on call this weekend.I had managed to ride my bike some in the hour that she had left.
So I went over to their house and stayed with grandson Jeremy since his daddy doesn't get home from work till 3 AM.I was there for a few hours so my exercising was quite minimal yesterday other than looking after my 2 1/2 year old grandson who was coming down with a cold and wanted his Nana to give him lots of tender loving care.Son in law is off this weekend so he will be there if our daughter gets any more emergency calls.
Thursday:Did the Sweatin To The Oldies routine for 35 minutes
Friday: Rode my stationary bike for 3.78 miles and 19.18 minutes(really had plans to ride it again later in the evening but was called out to stay with my grandson)

Alice,
Hope you are feeling better today. My grandson was coming down with a cold while we looked after him.He wanted to be held and comforted which I didn't mind at all.He will be 2 1/2 in a few days and growing up so fast.
Congratulations on your inches lost.I feel like I have lost some inches since doing the Sweatin routine plus I've lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks.I feel really good about how well I am doing with both exercising and losing weight now :yay:

nancy, thanks for your encouraging words. yes i do find that i lose more weight and inches when i excercise regularly. from the spring into summer i wasn't very strict with my excercise, some walking but not regularly and on aug 6 i started back on atkins induction and excercising regularly and picked up the challenge on this thread and since then i have lost 25lbs and 13.5 inches. i am off induction and back on protein power but i am following my excercise routine and seeing results and feeling so much better for it.--thanks for asking, --you are doing very well with your bike riding, i check here most days and don't know how you can do so much time on a straight up stationary bike, mine is a recumbent bike with a large seat that makes it so much easier than the regular bikes.

Question: Jes--I see you said you went back on induction. Are you still on it and do you find the pounds slipping off easier?? Hi Nancy--Am still hanging in here. Thanks for your kind thoughts about me feeling better. I have been drinking some hot green tea and that seems to help my throat somewhat. Hubbie also started our humidifier- so that should help too. alice, i stayed on atkins induction from aug 6th to sept 6th and i lost the 20 pounds that i gained on my 6wk vacation prior to aug 6 . since sept 6 to date i have been back on protein power and have lost 5lbs. i guess in the weeks on induction it may have been alot of water weight and now it has settled into around 1lb a week and i know i have to be vigilant with what i eat and exercise at least 5X a week in order to continue to lose.

Jes--I have never read Protein Power--Basically can you tell me what the difference is between that and Atkins??? Alice
jesdorka
Sun, Oct-19-03, 21:43
hi alice, i don't know that a few sentences would convey the differences between the 2 plans so what i have done is copied the synopsis of the protein power plan as written by Natrushka for this sites "which plan is right for you". hope this answers your question
jes
Basic Philosophy: PP and PPL were written by Michael and Mary Eades, two medical doctors practicing in Colorado. In 1995, they wrote Protein Power as a guide to better health and weight loss through diet, nutrition, supplementation, and exercise. In 2000, they followed up Protein Power with Protein Power Lifeplan, which was similar but contained updated information on studies that had come out since their first book, and a broader coverage of topics, including fats, magnesium, anti-oxidants, sunbathing, iron, cholesterol, and more. Protein Power and Protein Power Lifeplan differ from many other low carb books in that they share a very science-oriented approach to low carb and higher protein. But fear not, they are well written and easily understood by the layperson
The driving idea behind the Protein Power Low Carb plan is quite simple; we haven't changed much from our cave-man ancestors who, for hundreds of thousands of years, ate mainly animal protein, with a few wild vegetables and nuts thrown in. They maintain that our bodies are still designed to eat this way and doing otherwise has caused us tremendous health problems.
The principle of PP is the restriction of carbohydrates – in particular refined ones. Carbohydrates are sugar as far as your body is concerned; carbs are actually saccharides, di, tri or poly -saccharides and they break down into sugar almost immediately after ingestion. Carbohydrates, once in the body are converted to glucose in the blood stream to be used as quick fuel. An increase of glucose in the blood causes a release of insulin. Insulin is a hormone in the body that has many functions, one of which is to regulate blood sugar by converting the newly arrived sugar in the blood into fat for storage in fat tissue.
Over time, eating excessive amounts of carbohydrates in the form of grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables (like potatoes) overworks the insulin response causing our cells to become less and less sensitive to insulin. The net result is our body has to produce more and more insulin to have the same effect. This increase of insulin in the bloodstream can cause all kinds of health issues. Examples include type-two or Adult Onset diabetes, obesity, hardening of the arteries, plaque buildup, and high blood pressure.
By the numbers: : The Eades use different phases for the diet as follows: The "intervention " phase is the initial phase of the diet and the most restrictive. In this phase, the Eades suggest limiting your intake of carbs to 7-10 grams per meal, with an optional snack of 7-10 grams. In other words you can have anywhere from 20 to 40 grams of carbs per day. As for protein there are formulas in the books as to how to calculate it, depending on your current weight, height, body fat percentage and activity level. Fat is something that the Eades do not put limits on as they consider it to be metabolicially neutral; it does not cause an insulin reaction. However, it is the food type that is the densest in calories and they do note that if one eats 5000 calories per day it's going to be all but impossible to lose weight, even if you otherwise conform to the plans' guidelines.
Intervention is followed until you are very close to your goal for weight and/or health. Once you are very close, you can switch over to the "Transition" phase in which you increase your carb allotment to 50 grams per day. Once you feel you have met your weight and/or health goals, you can then go onto the "Maintenance ” phase - somewhere between 70 and 130 grams per day.
Method: There are three main types of food or "macronutrients": protein; carbohydrates; and fat. Most grain products like bread; rice, pasta, etc. as well as most fruits and vegetables are nearly 100% carbohydrate. Oils are all 100% fat. Few natural things get close to 100% protein with the exception of very lean cuts of meat or fish. Everything else is a mixture of at least two of the three macronutrients
Sources of Protein (and fat): all meats, poultry, and fish. Eggs and cheese (they have a small amount of carbohydrate), dairy products like milk, cream, and yogurt are ok as long as you read labels and keep track of carbs.
Carb sources – what to avoid : The Eades contend that certain types are bad for you in and of themselves even before we consider how dense they are in carbohydrates. Ex: Grains have been linked to leaky gut syndrome, which in turn has been linked to autoimmune disorders like arthritis, asthma, allergies, multiple sclerosis, etc. They suggest eliminating these items entirely. Other food limited or eliminated from the diet : legumes, starchy vegetables like potatoes and some squashes, and anything with a high sugar content like sweet sauces, syrups, candy, ice cream, high-sugar fruits like pineapples and mangos.
Carb sources – what to eat : Although vegetables (other than the starchy ones like potatoes) are primarily made up of carbohydrates, they do not have nearly as many carbs as grains per serving. They also are packed with nutrition - vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, as well as fiber. Fiber is a carbohydrate that your body cannot absorb, therefore the Eades discount it from the carb count of a food. So if a serving of vegetable has 10 grams of carbs but also 5 grams of fiber the vegetable has 5 grams of Effective Carbohydrates. PP recommends eating berries, melon, peaches, etc. Finally nuts and seeds
Alcohol : Alcohol is permitted on PP but you do need to be careful of its form. A sweet red wine or a hearty stout can be loaded with carbs. Hard alcohol is generally fine (aside from certain ones which might have a lot of sugar like bourbon, rum, brandy, etc. or are mixed with some sweet juice or soda.) Wine is ok as long as it is not very sweet, and lite beers are ok, but both lite beers and even dry wine do have some carbohydrates, so having more than a few of these will probably make staying within the plans' guidelines difficult. You also need to understand that your body will burn alcohol before it goes after carbs or stored fat.

Darn--I just lost my nice long post that I wrote to you JES. That is really aggrivating at times. Anyway Thank you so much for logging this info for me. My son really needs to lose a good 50-75 pounds also but his wife is a nurse who is totally against Atkins. She firmly believes in the American food pyramid and if I try to say anything--She feels that I am retired and out of the health business so shouldn't say anything. This plan sounds close to Atkins --so maybe she would be more approachable to this one. Will try to forward this info to him and I may even buy the book--read it and pass it on. Thanks again--I really appreciate it. I am worried about his health--afraid he is going to drop with a heart attack if he doesn't get this weight off. Alice

Since this was the first time for me to do the WATP routine I did it for 2 miles which was 30 minutes this morning.I really enjoyed the workout. Now I can chose between this workout and the Sweatin workout.Think I will stick to the WATP workout for awhile since it's new and fun for me now.
I also raked some leaves for 30 minutes this evening.
Jes....which WATP videos do you have and use? My daughter wanted to get me the 2 mile walk to use since I had never done these before but Wal-Mart didn't have it.I get to start out with the faster pace walk right at the beginning, lol.Leslie did say that we can go at our own speed and believe me I did:)

well my company left, it's fun to have friends from out of the territory come all this way to visit but after too many late nights, too much to drink (did stay on my food plan though) and very little excercise it's good to get back to the regular routine. i've spent the morning catching up on this forum,
happy belated birthday nancy :dazzle: i have "walk away the pounds 1, 2 & 3" i rotate between #1 which is 20 mins and 1 mile and #2 which is 30 mins and 2 miles. i use 2lb weights for both. i haven't tried #3 yet. i have done leslie sansone walk aerobics tapes for years and although i like her workouts her chatter drives me crazy  so after i've done the routine a few times i mute the tape or dvd and play my own music to the workout. hope you enjoy the workout, its great to change things around a bit.

Hi all! Wow! I had to go back 4 pages to find my last post 12 days ago...you guys are doing GREAT! Welcome to the newcomers...hope to have a chance to get acquainted with all of you one of these days when my life settles back down.
Still wearing the pedometer at the hospital and am now over the 200,000 step mark..or over 100 miles!! WOOHOO! Gotta say that that is the only real positive down there for now. Mom was one day from being released and had a crisis and went 'Code Red'...they had to do CPR to resusitate her and she is now back in ICU and back on the ventilator! Her heart surgery has healed well...but her lungs are just so compromised from all of the blood leaking into them over the preceding months that they are terribly weak and keep malfunctioning. She's a trooper though...I get my stubborness from her! LOL! Although bored and sometimes depressed, she is working hard on her excercises and is determined to see the last of that place. Can't blame her...it will be 6 weeks on Monday since she got there.
I am home right now with the twin to Aleka's cold and can't be around the hospital patients. Have been sleeping and pampering myself and will be headed back in a day or so. Just wanted to pop in and congratualte all of you for your terrific work!! I will check in again the next time I am in town.
