Starting the log... all Lotte Berk so far! Let's see if writing it down (and putting it on my calendar where I see it every day) will keep me on track!

I'm actually giving myself sticky stars on my paper calendar just like in elementary school, so I can see at a glance if I've been good.

Which one to do? Depends on the mood and how much energy I have.

Fri 7/18 - method
Sat 7/19 - abs
Sun 7/20 - off
Mon 7/21 - method/abs
Tue 7/22 - off
Wed 7/23 - method

Watched the abs "blast" section last night and just laughed. OMG how hard are some of those. And how do they know when I break form? It's like they're in my living room with me :)

Wed 7/24 - off

Not by choice - Earthlink thinks I cancelled my DSL, so I'm 'net free for TWO WEEKS. Spent my workout time on the phone trying to straighten it out. DBF works tonight, so I can do both my DVDs. My workout goal is no more than 1 day off.

Anyone have any DSL suggestions for me? Cable isn't in my neighborhood yet.

Thu 7/24 - method
Fri 7/25 - abs (not much enjoying the abs DVD, mostly going to stick with method, and just change a few of the exercises to suit)
Sat 7/26 - off (cat issue)
Sun 7/27 - off (yard sale. Still, not pleased that I skipped two days so soon into the program. Will have to just stick to the days DBF is working)

Mon 7/28 - method

Managed one more push-up than last time on both front & back.

I am appalled at how out of shape I am. I tried out for American Gladiators once - the filter to eliminate the folks who weren't cut out for the show was 30 real pushups, hard but doable. Now? I can't get through 20 girly pushups. Where have all my muscles gone?

Found out that with a cushier pad, I can roll down a bit further on the abs exercises, and that made a huge difference in how hard that made me work. Went from being able to do the exercise (barely, but still), to having to do the modifier version for newbies. Interesting. I need to find out how I can make my back more flexible so I can do the sit-ups on the abs DVD.

The legs and seat stuff is cake - that's what happens when you live at the top of a long flight of stairs, I guess - no muscle atrophy!

Wed 7/30 - abs

More success with this - could I be improving already? Did all 20 girly pushups which is still lame for me, but better than last week. Once I can do those without working so very hard, I'll start to switch to the real ones. I almost got all the way through the reverse pushups, but not quite - I need to work on my form for those, too. The LBMethod sit-ups are still hard for me (unbendable back), and I couldn't get through all of them, but either I'm getting more flexible or my abs are improving already (which I doubt, but something's changed).

Thu 7/31 - off

Figured I'd be doing abs or method (or both?) tonight while DBF's at work, plus tomorrow will be a full day of running around. (So easy to justify not doing the workout...) But I'm sticking with it for a while - the fact that I'm more flexible already, and I can notice a difference in my ability to do some of the exercises really helps motivate.

Does dancing count? I've been doing it for so long, it's not like it's new to my body. But it's also the only time my heart rate goes above resting. So. Still, two days off in a row again. Shame on me.

So much for "for sure"! I suck... 2 days off again. My eternal habit of not working out after a solid start. I need to just go home & do it, rather than watching TV for a while before working out. Once I'm planted, it's all over - I don't get it done. My pledge to myself - Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Monday. Dancing Saturday.

Gold star for me! Guilt tripped myself into it - it's a great motivator. Got home, ate immediately, then got my towel, put the dog outside, and did Method then promptly did the main body of the Abs workout. Plenty of energy afterwards, too.

Pledge to myself... tonight again, at least Method.

Wed 8/6 - off

Once again, I suck. I got home & did everything BUT exercise. Dishes. Laundry. It's not that I mind the workout, more that I don't like not having the TV on, or something. Weird. I'm going to have to think a little bit about why the heck I have such resistance to something I enjoy? Anyway, tonight, either DVD or dancing. I'd rather dance, but it doesn't do much for my abs ;) We'll see how it goes, but I am DONE with skipping more than one day, so tonight is something, anything.

I had a couple of hard dances, but most were pretty mellow. Still heart rate up for a couple of hours. I still hardly consider this exercise, but it'll have to do for now. And so again tonight, when with any luck the music & therefore the dancing will be more energetic.

Finally got back on the DVDs. Did the abs, and then actually pulled off a tiny bit of the ab-blast afterwards. Owie :)

I've found that even though the abs disc work my upper abs more than I really care for, it does some work on my lower, which is what I'm looking for. Maybe a new abs disc is in order, if I can find one that works just the lower. I have to admit, I was sold on the one I got by the picture on the cover - I want those abs. But am I willing to work as hard as I need to do get them? Oh hell, no ;)

As expected, picking DBF up from airport, then straight to the memorial service for T. Not the best homecoming for him, or me for that matter.


Wed 8/13 - abs + partial blast

Whoo. And I was all set to skip it and go to bed instead. But I watched QEftSG, and a sudden burst of shame ;) about the condition of my house and my sheer laziness, so I washed my dinner dishes then straight to the abs. You know, the stretching is almost as difficult as the muscle work. I used to be able to put my hands flat on the ground and bend my arms - now it's all fingertips and pained breathing. Not pretty. But definitely improving - I made it to the first knuckle today! And some of the blast work really gets to that pesky pooch of flab I have going. Ow. I may need to build myself The Rack we used to have for workouts in gymnastics. They have similar equipment in most health clubs, but either they don't support your lower back which is critical, or you're holding yourself up with so much shoulder & arm muscle that your abs don't get enough of a workout. It wouldn't be the hardest thing to build, just a matter of finding a couple of wall studs. Don't need the whole ladder bit... Plus there's that whole glorious body stretch you get when you hang comfortably for a bit.

Tonight, dancing again. Mostly fast stuff, but I'm still feeling like it doesn't count. The good news is that I went to lay down on Thu, and my lower belly muscles complained vociferously... which is how it should be :)

Ow, but in a "I jacked up all my joints" way, not in a "I worked all my muscles well" way. BBVD and a concrete dance floor. Sure was fun!
