Good morning all,
I've been away from the forum for a few weeks because of too many deadlines, and not enough time. Will not go back to journalling daily and reading other journals, it's far too addictive for me!

But I want to make a personal "pledge" and need to be answerable about that to somebody, so I thought I'd tell all of you here, and hope you will be "with me".
I will for 4 weeks from today:
not weigh myself
stick to my own basic diet, which is
breakfast 1 slice of protein bread with selfmade LC chocolate butter
lunch 1 slice protein bread with butter and salmon or mackerell
5 o'clock snack 1 hard boiled egg with olive oil and herbs
dinner moderate piece of meat with 2 cups veg and butter
evening snack a few self made low carb ice pops

in the weekend I can have one portion of cream with cocoa

I think I am scared to lose weight. I was 281 two weeks ago and after that it suddenly went up. Yes, I had added some things, because it was a very stressful period, had cheese and more nuts and cream daily, so that's part of the story, but I've had this before, losing weight and then suddenly gaining some back and that's not the way I want to go!

I think the safest for me is just DO it, and check in 4 weeks time, instead of every day.
Yesterday my weight was 287, so that's my starting point for this.

Thanks for reading this and thanks for all the support I can get!

Willeke

PS I forgot to mention that I drink at least a gallon of water every day and that I have at least 30 mins of walking in the fields with my dogs every day and will keep doing that. Jeez... I must have been doing something right that these things are so much part of my normal life now!

Sounds like you have a firm plan for yourself and that you will do well. You can do it. :)

Nice to see you around Willike! I don't think you're getting enough calories (in my humble opinion). Remember, we don't eat enough = our bodies hold on to whatever we do. Give fitday a try to check your daily numbers. You should be eating AT LEAST 1800 calories a day. Give it a try, keep us posted! Cheers!

Hey Nicole,
how sweet of you to worry about me! Congratulations about your big step!!! It's fantastic the way you go, girl!

And I get plenty of calories, I'm adding extra butter to everything to make sure I have enough.
I gain weight from extra protein, gain weight from extra carbs, so now I'm trying it this way!

cheers

Hi Willeke

May your committment get you the results you want. Glad you cleared us up on the calorie point as I was thinking the same. Good to hear you are drinking plenty of water. Essential, particularly in this warmer weather.

Every success and we look forwarda to reading your progress.

Willeke,

Good for you. I find when I plan things I do so much better. Stress causes me to pick convenience foods like nuts, etc... for meals vs occasional snacks.

So how are you doing today?

Good morning all,
after my first week I must say I didn't do too well. First we had strawberries in the fridge that had to go so we finished those with cream on Sunday. It was OK, though, I stayed in ketosis. But I am in the middle of another work marathon, so we had take out Chinese and something went wrong there. I always have smoked chicken and that is no problem, but now they also had spare ribs and they were covered in a sauce, which must have contained sugar. I had wiped off most of it because I don't trust sauces anyway, but I went right out of ketosis and only last night it was back, faintly at that.
Then I had some peanuts yesterday, so that is three "violations" for the first week.

And I weighed myself yesterday and that was, of course, a high of 290!!! That was the 4th mistake.

Ah well, another week and I'll just try again,

We will go to the States in November, so that's a good motivational factor to really stick to something in the hope that it helps!

Hi Willeke,

Have you had your thyroid tested? It doesn't sound like those are the type of "violations" that should cause weight gain -- stalling perhaps, but not gain. Of course, it is only three pounds which may be within your normal range of fluctuation. If I were you, I WOULD weigh again in a week and if you keep gaining, I would consider getting some medical tests run. If you don't keep gaining, you can just assume that the three pounds was a normal fluctuation for you and, given what you ate, you probably can't expect to have lost last week.

Also, have you considered increasing the amount of walking you are doing each day to an hour? I have found that exercising for an hour a day five days a week (I walk or swim) is really important for me to keep my weight loss moving. If you eat extra carbohydrates, the exercise also helps burn them off.

I think I am scared to lose weight.

I saw this and it struck a chord in me....I think I too am scared to lose weight and that's why I dont try as hard as I could. I know I'm scared I'll fail for the umpteenth time so dont put in a full effort. Well thanx for your post. I think this epiphany will help me get back on track.
Thanx!!
