July 20...Day 1
Did nearly 1.5 miles of WAP this morning...a couple of the moves sort of "bothered" my back, and the raised knee move was a bit irritating to it...but did it and that is the main thing. I will take tomorrow off and then Tuesday do it again...hopefully will get a wee bit further, and then Thrsday, farther stil.
Fingers crossed...since hurting my back, I have so missed the activity that I used to be able to do. I golfed nearly every one of my days off...swam...walked without difficulty...but for nearly 11 months, have been pretty darn sedintary...so slow but sure...and I will get my back stronger and my body fitter again.
I have always been over weight, but fit with it...played fast ball for 30 years...was a pitcher...and played badminton and volleyball in the winter to keep in shape. It all started falling apart a few years ago when I tore my achilles off the gastrocnemius muscle, had to quit ball, badminton, volleyball and bowling...left leg is very weak, has no push. So, took up golf, and stayed very fit with allthe walking and the amount that I did it, all year round...plus swam lengths a couple of mornings a week.
So, I have a long way to go to get even close to what I was...losing the weight will make that a bit easier hopefully...and persistence...and common sense. My first inclination is to just go nuts and go, go, go...but my back would stop me dead...so slow and easy, as much as it kills me to do that, will eventually help me win this race.
Now, off to the shower...then breaky

I took the day off from WAP, but when I woke up immediately thought I should be doing it...part of my problem is that I just go gung ho...and my back does not like that...so need to learn to slow it down a bit.
It was pointed out that my rehab program is also exercise...I do a mile on the treadmill, then do an assortment of wieights..mostly designed to strengthen my back...but that should be counted to I think...this is 5 days a week, so maybe with the added WAP, it will get me looking better, and losing more inches...
I need to do some work in the area right under my boobs...it just sticks straight out...need big time muscle there...so maybe I will try some crunches...not sure how the back will react to that...
So, day two...treadmill and weights...tomorrow, WAP as well.

I made it to the 1.5 mile mark today on WAP. :yay: .sweating and glad I did it this morning...got up 1/2 hr earlier to do it...I knew it would be too hot later...almost too hot now.
Will enter later what I do at rehab
Today at rehab I did the treadmill, about 1.13 miles at 2.2 MPH...which is a big improvement from when I started the back rehab...walking still hurts, but I am just pushing through it.
Then did weights...and have asked the kinesilogist to give me some exercises for the stomach area that aren't going to stress my back...so tomorrow she is going to do that for me...and she is also going to think of things I can do with the inner thigh area...can't do alot of the normal exercises for that area as the back is not stable.
So, I think a pretty good day...
Hope I can keep this up...my back is sore...

No WAP today, but did attend physio...increased my weights today, and will increase my reps on the ones that I have been doing all along.
Did 1 mile on the treadmill with an elevation of 2...at 2.2 MPH...feel pretty good. Tomorrow, I will get up early and do the WAP..see if I can get past the 1.5 mile mark...

Thu, Jul-24-03, 20:23
1.15 miles at 2.3 MPH on treadmill, and various weights...not able to do the WAP this morning, think I will wait and do it on SAt and Sun...my back was complaining bitterly this morning...as the week progresses, my back gets worse...so maybe while in physio, I should use the WAP on weekends, and maybe Monday, the just rely on weights and cardio at rehab...
I am highly motivated at this time, and want to increase all over the place, but need to learn patience...my back is not going to like taking a beating...so slow and steady...that should be my motto...

July 25...Day 6
Did 1.5 miles on treadmill...at 2 elevation and 2.4MPH...did some sweating, so must have burned a calorie or two..and then 1.5 hours of different weights and exercises for my back...but they work other muslcles too...It is a start...but my back is not feeling right at the moment...startedt o hurt before I left physio and has just increased in intensity over the rest of the day...and that is through the T3's I took.
Hope it settles down again.

Day 7
I am going to rest my back today...was going to do my WAP, but my back has not settled down, so I think I should do the smart thing, and give it a break for today. Tomorrow...hopefully, I will get it into gear again...

Okay, I am pleased with myself...
I did the WAP this morning, went to the mile mark, and stopped myself...my back hurts, but is better than it has been for the past few days, so didn't want to irritate it all over again...
The reason I am so pleased, is that I usually don't know when to stop...I am very hard on myself, and still tend to think of myself as the strong person I was before this injury...and just keep pushing, no matter how it hurts...
Perhaps I am learning that I will go farther and do more if I listen to what my back is saying...

Did WAP...1 mile today, and then went to physio...close to a mile on the treadmill with a 2 elevation, then weights etc...Pretty good workout...will not do WAP tomorrow...best to give my back a rest for a day as it has to work hard at phsio/

.5 mile at 2.3 MPH on treadmill at 2 elevation...and then about 40 minutes of weights...my back gets worse every day during the week, and usually on Friday it is not good...so I do a bit less...as well, I had a physio treatment, and that takes up time, so all in all,I don't feel I did much today...

It has been a week since I have done any weights or cardio due to my back and some vacation time.
I will be back at it as soon as this back of mine settles down a bit...worrying that I am not doing anything...

Thu, Aug-21-03, 10:31
I am doing a small amount of swimming right now, but am finding that my back just get irritated, and then I can't do anything...Starting this coming Monday, I think it will have been long enough...and then I will start things all over again...
I am going to have to do and join a gym though...will go to the Sports Center here in the area...not sure that curves is a good idea with my back right now...and will start WAP on Monday morning again.
I hate this back of mine.

Yahooo...I made it through 1 mile of WAP...so I will try to increase that through the rest of this week. My back is not totally calmed down, but I am worrying about the challenge and my commitment to it...I really want to see some differences, and not let the gang down.
Tomorrow, I will do it again, and see how far I get before the back barks.

Sept.4
I made it through the full two mile WAP..was sweating up a storm, even though I didn't have the weights...I figure I need to just push my back a bit...if I stopped when it started hurting, I would never get through even 1 mile...I am pleased with that for today...
Now, I bought a booklet of tickets for the gym, and will start there this weekend I think...or Monday...don't want to go when it is really busy.

Whooof...what a difference between the 2 mile and 3 mile WAP...the 3 mi is incredibly more intense than the two mile...but I think I did well to get to the 1.5 mile mark...I am dripping wet with sweat...and even a little dizzy...so I know that I had a good workout...
I think that I will do the 2 mile for a few more times...before doing the 3 mile...or alternate the two...and see if I can get farther in the three mile...I was determined to not quit before the 1.5 mark, but man, I kept praying for it to get there..lol
Not bad I think...I will ask Mischa when she gets back what she thinks...
Now...a shower...

Sept. 8
I went to the gym today...did 10 minutes on the bike to warm up, then went through the weights routine that the rehab program taught me...that took just over an hour...then I tried the eliptical trainer machine...don't quite get it...seemed jerky to me, and my back didn't really like it...so am thinking I was doing something wrong...
I am pleased that I got there...now a day off tomorrow...then back to it on Wed. or thurs...want to continue with the WAP as I do like it...

O.K......I give.....what's a WAP? Wap's are in Mischa's journal too. I feel so out of the loop.
Whatever they are, they certainly seem to be doing the trick! You have had some awesome whooshes. I gotta get me some WAP's too.
Hugs!

Sept. 10
Went to the gym...1 mile on treadmill...2.5 elevation and 2.8 miles per hour...pretty good for me...
Then, weights...Assorted upper and lower body...I am having a bit of a struggle there as the machines are a bit different than at rehab, so not sure what is going to irritate my back...so it is trial and error....
Tomorrow...WAP if I am up to it...maybe this will get the weight to come off a bit faster...
If I start that schooling next week, I am not sure how I am going to fit in my exercise...I am a morning person...and do much better if I get at it first thing...by afternoon...absolutely no ambition, plus my back usually is more sore afternoons and evenings...

2 mile WAP this morning...did the whole thing...won't get to the gym until tomorrow or Sunday...but not sure that I want to go there on a weekend, it is so darn busy...have to fight for machines...etc...might just do WAP over the weekend, and then Monday back to the gym...
Feel pretty good, but have to say, that after doing 1.5 mile of the 3 mile...the two is quite a bit easier...

Sept. 14
Gym...1.2 miles on treadmill...2.5 elevation...2.9 mph....and then 2 minutes of hard rowing...I liked the rowing machine...might do that again...wanted to see how it felt on my back...and as long as I didn't lean back or forward...it was okay.
Then assorted weights...upper and lower body...with some extra on the lower as the left leg is so weak...
Feel pretty good about what I am doing...just wish that damn scale would do something.

1.5 miles of the 3mile WAP...very good workout...I really feel it...it is much harder to do than the 2 mile...
I am camping now for a couple of days...so plan on doing lots of walking...and climbing up and down an very long, very steep walkway and stairs that goes down to the beach...should get some exercise that way...

Sept 21...
I have done some exercise here in the past week, but have not entered it...
While I was away, did lots of walking...but have to confess that Friday and SAt....I did nothing but feel sorry for myself and eat induge bars...sigh
Today...2 mile WAP...whole thing completed...
Not sure how it is going to work when I am in school...might have to carry a bag to school with me, and go straight to the gym three times a week...I will try that...but I do like to get it over with in the morning...

After doing nothing for so long, it is time to get my butt in gear, and get serious about doing some exercise on a regular basis.
Soooo...
Have been to the pool two days running, doing laps, water jogging and exercises for my back. It feels wonderful to be in teh water....it takes the weight of the world off of my back and it is nearly painless...I could float in there all day.
Tomorrow, am planning on doing some WAP as I can't get to the pool because of my interview.
I feel good, getting that exercise.

Mon, Nov-24-03, 12:12
Have not been exercising, but started again today. Will hopefully be able to keep this up.
I have been off my Cellebrex since last Thursday, and am really feeling the increase in pain in my back...but am still dizzy, so I will phone the doctor tomorrow, and he will hopefully put me back on the pills since they are not causeing the dizziness.
Today...
Body flex...completed the tape...modified due to my increased discomfort...
Had planned on doing WAP this morning, but am too uncomfortable for it...
Tomorrow...the plan is to do either one or the other...but will do something.

I did it...went to the gym after work...I hate going to the gym...by myself that is. I am thinking that I should get a walkman or something to listen to...maybe I will like it more.
Did 15 minutes on treadmill, elevation 4% and past was 3.2 at the max...after that I start to limp and lean sideway!
Then I did some free weights, and then some of the circuit.
I might even be a bit sore tomorrow...since I had no idea what weight I should be doing on the machines.
I plan on tomorrow again...then am busy Thurs and Fri...Cardio on Sat. with the group.

1 mile on treadmill...speed...max at 3.2, elevation up to 7 at max...good cardio I think...at least I was panting and sweating!
Then the circuit...upper and lower body...three sets of 15 each machine.
Nov 12
Gym...treadmill...15 minutes....65mile, elevation 5...not as good as usual. then I got on the stairmaster...did 5 minutes and got my heart rate up again. I have never been able to do more than 1 to 2 minutes on the stair master before, so was pleased with that.
Then did 2 minutes of the eliptical trainer...not sure why I don't seem to be able to do that.
Then the circuit...good workout.

Brisk walk around Swan lake twice...total of 5 kM...had no idea...I just find it so much nicer outside, and in company...had to laugh though, since the day before, on the treadmill, I was pooping out in only half a mile..sigh.
