Hi all,
I'm Carla. I live in Louisville, KY. I wont put you to sleep with tons of details, but I'm on Atkins and am desperately trying to lose some weight. I'm a faithful low carber, but wasn't seeing the scales moving. I believe it might be a portion control problem. I only have 2 settings....hungry and stuffed. So I'm reevaluating some things and trying to get the scales moving. I'm journaling and trying to keep myself accountable. I look forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome aboard, Carla!
Glad you found us here in the TDC. There's loads of info in here to help ya along the way, plus, the people are pretty darn friendly. ;)
With Atkins, try to remember that you should eat until satisfied. From what I've read it takes about 15-20 min. for the "full feeling" to completely set in, so you may try stopping eating when you start to feel full. That way you won't get stuffed (been there, done that myself). ;)
Here's to a successful life of LCing!

Hi Carla
Welcome to the TDC. Glad you have also started a journal, this can really motivate you, particularly in the bad times.
Have you ever read the Heller book, Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. I am just reading this and it strikes me from what you have said that they might be a better low carb plan for you. It worth a read anyway.
Keep cheerful and keep faith with low carbing. I've been on this way of life for nearly 2 years now and my photos, see signature, show my progress so far. Slow, but steady.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Nikki: It really hit home when I was reading the fat fast section and Dr A was warning about doing this unnecessarily. And basically he said that if the eat what you need became eat all you want, then fix that and don't do the fast. So that's what I did. It's funny how I've read the book twice but I still find new things in it all the time.
Anne: Thanks so much for the post. I should have mentioned that I'm diabetic. I did read and try CAD a long time ago, but the reward meal didn't work for me. First it spiked my blood sugar and second it made my cravings worse. I'm one of those all or nothing kinda gals. Being strict actually helps me. Give me an inch and I'll take a yard. :) But that was very sweet of you to mention. I am definitely open to anything!

I know where you're coming from about portion control - right now that's my biggest problem, and one that I am working on. "Two settings: hungry and stuffed" - that's exactly how I have always been! I'm trying to eat more slowly, as Tiggerdy suggests. Another thing I do is take small helpings, telling myself I can always come back and get more if I'm still hungry. Most often I'm not. So it's working, but right now that's my biggest fight.
CAD didn't work for me, either.

Welcome to the forum and to the Triple Digits Club, Carla!
In my own experience, I found that the urge to "stuff" really eased off over time, provided I lived a completely clean Induction period followed by very strict adherence to the plan as written. After a month or so, my urge to overeat even LC legal foods was greatly reduced.
I'll pop over and check out your journal, but it's not clear from you original post if you have completed those preliminary aspects of the plan.
Anyhoo, good luck and good health to you!

We are twins! I've also been doing this. I actually bought a small bowl and a small plate, so I'm forced to use small portions. I've been getting about 1600 calories for the past 3 days. I'll be very curious to see what my weigh in shows next week. I'm also journalling. I think that'll help me stay accountable.
Thanks,

Thanks Donald. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm actually still on induction. I am diabetic and I have to keep tight controls to keep my blood sugar low. I believe I'm following the plan to the letter, but I learn something new every time I read it. So I'm going to read it again.
I'm staying under 20 carbs. I don't eat more than 3 oz cheese a day. I don't eat nitrates, etc... I get my meat from a farmer in the country. I don't even eat lc treats or substitutions. No low carb tortillas, bread, snacks or chocolates, etc... Just real food.
I wish I had the same experience as you. But I think forcing myself will get me to the point where I can control it better. If you have any questions just ask.

Carla - Welcome to the TDC! This is a great place to be. All of us in the TDC have some real goals and with a little help from your LCer friends, we will do alright. I, like you are very strict with this. I am planning on doing induction for quite a while and I can truly say, that right now I don't crave anything. And thats amazing because B4 this WOE, I was a junk food junkie. So I can relate. So we are all glad you are here and I will follow your progress and if you need anything, just ask!! We are here for you! :yay:

Isn't it amazing. I used to be a huge carb addict. I once told my husband I'd have an easier time becoming a vegetarian. But my plans sure changed for me! I don't have cravings either for any of that stuff. I don't even eat sweets anymore. Not even with splenda or stevia. Except in the summer when I want to get in the hot tub, I will make me a slushy with my ice shaver, koolaid and stevia. YUM! I'm going to have to try some davinci syrup on that sometimes too.
Thanks again!
Carla

Alright .. this is too weird ... my name is also Carla and I also live in Kentucky(not Louisville though). Now, if the 68 on the end of your screenname stands for your year of birth it will get even eerier because I was born in '68(June 11) .. ..
Welcome to the forum .. I've only been here a bit over a week myself. I wish you much success on this journey.
Namaste,
Carla
p.s.
I'm not diabetic but I "am" insulin resistant so I don't think I could do the reward meal daily either.
