I was curious if you have any runners that might be bursting
too many red blood cells and not replacing them fast enough.
The last 2 years my red blood count and white blood count and
my platelets have been right at the very minimum not below but
at and my ferritin and iron levels are also been on the low
side, but not below the minimums. My haptoglobin, which is
some form of blood protein has been very low, but my
hematologist is just puzzled after doing extensive testing and
withdrawing bone marrow. He has absolutely no idea even to
begin what the problem is if there is any problem. So we are
just going to keep an eye on these numbers and we are curious
what you thought. It's possible there might be some beginnings
or some underlying autoimmune situation that may someday
surface. I'm male, 43 years old, and run about 50 miles a
week. I typically do a marathon in about 3 hours in fact this
next fall marathon we are going to go and maybe a couple days
afterwards and have the numbers checked knowing that I will be
very depleted. We are just curious what the numbers might look
like so soon after a marathon. Just curious if you have any
experiences on some blood work that appears to be on the low
side, but not low enough to warrant any immediate concern. I
appreciate any input that you might have. By the way I am very
healthy and I find iron in red meat and molasses and spinach
and many other places. My running seems to be going pretty
good, at times I can feel a little fatigued. But, it's just
normal I believe. Thanks for your time. Oh by the way I
resisted a bone marrow biopsy thinking that the test probably
wouldn't yield anything for about a year and finally took that
test a month ago. It was very interesting. I only delayed it
because I didn't think it would turn up anything. It certainly
did not. Thank you.
