Hi, I'm 17...I'd like to lose about ten pounds...I've been on Atkins induction for a month. I've only really lost about one or two pounds.

This is kind of distressing and I was wondering if there was anyone else who didn't have very much to lose that has been on induction for a long time and hasn't noticed any signifigant changes?? I'm pretty sure it just takes time because I don't have very much to lose, but I'd like to know I'm not the only one! Please IM me or email me (look in my profile). Thanks!

Brittany

...As for my exercise routine I usually run one or two or three miles a day and/or a forty-five minute aerobic class and lift weights every few days. Perhaps I am gaining muscle and it's balancing out the fat I'm losing, but I wasn't lifting weights for a while and I didn't lose anything.

I drink hella water...at least 80 oz. a day. I'm pretty sure I eat plenty of fat. Maybe my sodium intake is a little too much...if that's making me retain water; I'll try cutting back. I don't really drink diet sodas and I almost never drink aspartame. Occasionally sugar-free jello which has aspartame. I don't eat more than two ounces of cheese a day. I really try to watch for hidden sugars...I eat the Atkins bars/and shakes about every other day so maybe I'll cut back on those too.

If anyone else has had the same type of experience please tell me...I think it's just going to take me time. I am 120 lbs right now, and I'd like to get down to at least 110 if not more because I have a small frame. I just don't see how I could have high insulin resistance that would make it more difficult for me to lose weight because I'm not overweight and I didn't really eat too bad before Atkins. Sorry for the length of this entry but I'd really appreciate some feedback!! Thank you so much Battousai and Tofi for responding to me!! (I think I'll try moving up to OWL tomorrow now that you said that because I excercise a lot and I need more energy, Tofi)

Are you sure you have limited your carbs to under 20g? Also make sure you watch the sodium (diet drinks). Sometimes if you don't eat enough Fat your body will hold on to the fat in your system, basically your body thinks its starving and goes into starvation mode. How much do you have to lose? Are you losing bodyfat? Also you could be losing weight around your waist instead of pounds. There are a lot of factors to why you could be stalled. Try stating your exercise routines and menu along with your goals.

It's a common mistake to think that Atkins and other low carb plans are quick weight loss methods. What they are is sure and eventual ways to better health.

How wonderful that you have decided to be in charge of your weight when you are still so close to a good range. By cutting out sugars, junk food and processed starches, you are guaranteeing that you will never have 50 or more pounds to lose.

If you have been exercising while on the plan, then you may not have lost many pounds but you could be smaller because you have gained muscle (lean & sleek) while losing fat (fluffy & larger). If the scale doesn't move, but the clothes get looser, then you can believe the clothes as the better measure.

It would be a really good idea to go on to Ongoing Weight Loss and increase the carbs by adding veggies, fruits and some whole grains. This time is used to help you really learn how to eat lower carb for most of your life. Yes, there will be treats, but low carb is a very healthy way to eat.

Many people lose BETTER at higher carb levels than at Induction. The original Atkins plan allowed only one small salad daily but the Dr. found that sticking to that level did NOT speed up the loss. So the plan was amended to the higher level.

Hope this helps. :wiggle:
