Hi all, I hope there is someone out there who can help me. It's actually for my mom. She was diagnosed last year with eczema. Her DO gave her a bunch of tests and found her food intolerances. Including eggs, wheat, plus others I'm not too sure of. The DO also told her she had candida.
Anyway, she got the eczema cleared up finally, but after she started Atkins she was eating bacon, eggs, cheese, etc. After a couple of months the eczema came back. Now, she is cutting out the eggs, most cheese. Still suffering from the eczema. Does anyone know if eczema is a fungus? On the candida diet, no bacon, cheese, mushrooms, vinegar, pickles.
She is a turtle anyway, so with very slow weight loss. She is having a hard time with eating no eggs, bacon. Also is hypothyroid. My goodness, with candida, food intolerances, eczema, hypothyroidism....is there any way she is ever going to lose weight? She has lost, but it is very slow going. I know she gets discouraged. She is still doing Induction, started March 26th. She won't add anything cuz her weight loss is already slow. She has lost....19lbs. Just called and asked her what she lost. Hey 19 lbs. isn't so bad, eh? Especially with all the medical problems she has.

Does anyone have any suggestions for her??? She is 72, so doesn't like a lot of change. She wants to know some things that are easy to fix. She won't add anything that is not on induction.

Thanks for the help. If anyone knows anything about getting rid of the eczema that would be appreciated too.

Is she taking any supplements for the candida? It gives me sinus infections. I take Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) I put it in grapefruit juice and take it on an empty stomach before bed. Start with 5 drops and slowly increase to 15. She might have a candida die off for a few days, but if she's been on an anti-candida diet, she might not. My husband has phorisis on his scalp and witchhazel clears it up. It's sold by the rubbing alcohol and peroxide at wal-mart or drug stores. Get natural if you can. Just dab it on with a cotton ball. Hope this helps.

Probiotics and small amounts of whole milk yogurt can also help with candidia. I'm also taking a product by twin labs that is a yeast fighter. They seem to help me, though I'm not totaly sure I had the candidia. I wasn't doctor tested, I just had alot of symptoms and decided to see if treatment would help.

Also look for hidden wheat. I was suprised when for some reason the SF soy milk I like had wheat in its cappacino flavour. The vinella and chocolate didn't have it at all. Avoiding vinigar is also hard, make sure to read lables. It is found in mayo, mustard, and alot of other products I never relised. DANDR also says to avoid soy sauce, and sources of mold in the diet in products such as cheese and nuts. Enviromental molds can also trigger responces, so keep your home humidity low and as mold free as possible.

19 pounds in a month isn't bad. In fact it's great. Induction can be hard on a dairy/cheese/vinigar free diet. There are recipes out there though for vinigar free mayo. Mozzarealla and cream cheese in small amounts is ok. Making a sugar free jello with unsweetened kool-aid, splenda, and knox unflavored gelitin can make for a treat. Tell her to hang in there and encourage her all you can. While it may be slow goign she is 19 pounds ahead of the game.

Sorry to hear about your Moms troubles. I have what I would still classify as a severe candida infection and I have both eczema and psoraisis (both mild) and both are here only because of my candida infection. I can only say from personal experience, the more I beat down the fungus, the less I have the other two conditions (sometimes they completely disappear).

It is a GREAT thing that your Mom is on Atkins since she is hypoglycemic. It is VERY common to develop food intolerances when you have a gut fungal infection and here is why. The fungus (for lack of nicer terms) *cuts* a hole into the lining of your intestine and allows, whole, undigested foods to get into your bloodstream. This causes your immune system to think the indigested food is an *invader* and it starts a food allergy like effect. As your mother improves, she may find she can add back (in 90 days or so) those foods slowly.

Why is it so hard to fight? I think firstly because of what we are NOT allowed (or don't know about) to put into our mouths. The second reason is because the yeast develop something of defense system and create *poisons* that literally, depress your own immune system and keep it from properly killing off the yeast/fungus (which healthy bodies do when it gets out of proportion).

I have come full circle after 7 years of this hell and I now know I have to be *Atkins diet like* for the rest of my life. If I am lucky, I will be able to add dairy back into my life later on (dairy allergy). I'm so tired of being sick that a diet restriction isn't looking so bad compared to a pancreas that won't work (could tell I was getting pre-diabetic).

I hope my insights to this disease will help your mother and please feel free to post more questions - I have LOTS of books on the subject :rolleyes:

I was very lactose intolerant for many years. After several months of candida treatment, I eat cottage cheese and mozzarella (occassionally sour cream) with no problems at all any more.

Jeanne, I saw you mention butter not causing a problem with dairy intolerant people in another thread. It's because it's all fat with little or no lactose in it anymore. Raw organic butter is best because the fats not damaged and there are no hormones or pesticides in it.

Thanks for that on the butter!!! I guess it is lactose then that also gives allergic reactions (didn't know for sure I had a food allergy to dairy until my blood work came back).

I always thought it had something to do with a lack of milk proteins in the butter but I just didn't know. Caseinates REALLY give me hell - in most of the Atkins goodies (shakes and candy bars).

Hope your mother's excema improves soon. I had excema all over my body and cured it with a candida diet plus a few tweaks - no citrus (inclu lemons, oranges, strawberries, or any red berries ie raspberries), no tomatoes in any form, and no chilli - nothing spicy. If she tries it for a few weeks she might noticec a huge difference - i did! Oh, and take Omega-3 supplements.

Well, Gang,
I'm one person who can't do dairy ... and butter literally tears me up! I noticed years ago that butterscotch hard candies and caramels disolved in my mouth made the epithelium start peeling off. My mouth would get raw.
And if I eat more than just a tiny bit of butter I have a sore anus the next day. Clarifying it makes no difference... But...Man, do I LOVE it!
