I heard a Dr on tv say that high protein diets turn your ph to acidic and you retain fluids. He said that while you can loose weight on a high protein diet, most likely it will not be for the long run and what we need is to make our ph alkaline.
I noticed that even though I drink water I still retain fluids (does not help that is really hot here and I don't have AC)
Does anyone know about this acidic ph thing?
Thanks!

An interesting theory if it weren't for the fact that our bodies keep our blood pH in a very tight range (within a few tenths of a point) and there is very little that you can do, diet-wise, to change that. If your blood pH gets too acidic or alkaline, you would most certainly know it and be in the hospital a very sick person. I have yet to see a person here report being hospitalized for acidosis (which is the medical term for what this doctor is referring to).
Now, it's true that your urine can become a bit more acidic on a high protein diet (incidentally, low carb is generally not a high protein diet..it's high fat), but that does not mean that your blood is acidic.
