One of the benefits of low carbing that I've noticed in the nine weeks since I started is that I haven't had any headaches (apart from one during the first week of induction). My mother is a chronic migraine sufferer (several per week) and I was just wondering if anyone had noticed an improvement in the frequency of their migraines. I'd love to be able to give her a really good reason to start low carbing.

Mine ceased after seeing a chiropractor regularly. I have noticed since lc ing that my sinus headaches have virtually disappeared as well.
Good luck to your mom - it is certainly worth a shot!

This is not related directly to LCing but my overall new lifestyle. I use to get what I considered a migraine at least once a month sometimes twice. I read an article on aspertame (sp) (artificial sweetner) which I consumed in pretty good quantity per day in diet coke. the article said give it a try (cutting out aspertame) for 60 days. I did almost two years ago and virtually have not had a migrain or hardly a headache since. A side benefit, at least for me was less aches and pain in my joints when I get up in the morning.

I know that AS trigger migraines in my mum too but I don't know which one/s (probably aspartame). Low carbing seems to have cured every ailment I've ever had so I figured it would be worth her giving it a go. I just know that she'll probably suffer 'sugar withdrawal' migraines in the first couple of weeks and that will put her off.

My migraines came once a month and lasted for three day, almost non-stop, for like three years. I came to dread they day I figured the headache would show up, more than the period itself...
Gyn, sinus dr., neurolgist, chiropractor did not help AT ALL. Imitrex, etal. didn't help.
They were hormonal migraines and they didn't go away until HRT. Which unfortunately caused my hair to thin. But the migraines are basically history.
My sinus (?) headaches seem to have disappeared with atkins, though.

My migraines (cluster headaches) have decreased in frequency since I started Atkins, however I also started a new medication (verapamil) - so I don't know if it was the medication or the diet.
