Hey everyone! I have found a delicious way to control those late night cravings! A large glass of ice, make it a nice, pretty glass, presentation helps, I found. Fill it with ice, pour a small amount of 1/2 & 1/2 or heavy cream and a diet soda of your choice. It tastes just like a float! I love it with Diet Pepsi! I bet Diet Rootbeer would be delicious too! Cream is very low on carbs and the soda has 0 carbs. Put a straw in it and sip on it, savor every creamy sip, and before you know it, you'll forget all about those Hershey's Kisses! Well, okay, you won't forget about them, but at least you can avoid them for another day. Remember, baby-steps!

We can do it! :cheer:

The heavy cream w/ diet root beer tastes JUST like root beer float. For those with the willpower, go for it :D
I, unfortunately, was getting totally addicted (ie - pouring 1/4 cup of cream in w/ the diet root beer...every night!! ) and found myself in the middle of a HUGE stall. It was not the only culprit, but it made a difference once I cut the extra cream out *sniff*:(

:read2: Yes me too. Late night is the worse time of the day for me. I know I should go to bed, but instead I go to the freg. I crave chedder cheese at night. I lose more weight without the cheese at night. That should give me the insentive not to eat the cheese. I guess I picked cheese because I have gone years without it thinking it was going to make me fatter. The cream thing sounds more like it would have more carbs in it. Does it?

Hey Fat...and I mean that in the nicest way possible ;)

I don't think the cream would have any more carbs than cheese. I've read the cartons on some of the name brand creams and it indicates 0 carbs per serving, which I know can't be right, because there has to be at least 1 carb per 2-table spoon serving. Try it with two servings and that should be just enough to get that creamy, delicious flavor in your soda. I've read recipes where people actually blend it all together and make a slushy sort of treat out of it. The possibilities are endless. I am going to try it with a diet-orange soda...Orange Dreamcicle!!!

 You are making my mouth water. Can't wait to go to the store.
Not to change the subject, but yesterday I had my usual cheese for an evening snack, but before that all I had all day was a chopped pork pattie with a little chedder cheese and I gained a lb. Does this happen to any of you?

Yeah, unfortunately, I guess when you're trying to lose weight weight fluctuation is just one of those things.

I tend to go between 173-175, I want to get down to 145-150. I'm 5' 08" so I can hardly wait to see how I'm going to look.

If only I could stop cheating! I don't know why I do it! I know I shouldn't do it, but it's just my weakness. I love sweets! I feel like I shouldn't be coming to these forums sometimes, I'm low-carbing every other way except I can't stay away from sweets. I think I need to join OA or something. Everyday I wake up saying, "ok, no sugar today." I have my morning coffee with cream, my scrambled eggs and bacon, lunch is a turkey sandwich on low-carb bread, dinner is a meat and a veggie. Then the evening rolls around, and those little thoughts creep into my mind...cookie, cake, icecream, chocolate! And before I know it, I've eaten something I shouldn't have, along with a diet soda of course. Does this ever happen to you? I've managed not to gain any of my weight back, but I'm worried if I don't stop myself, one day i'll step on the scale and I'll be my 250lb self again. Noooooo!

How yummy! I am trying to "train" myself not to need a sweet or dessert after supper. I have been trying to have decaf w/cream instead after dinner.

However, the float thing sounds like a definite option!! Especially given the current heat wave here...an icy float might be just the thing.

I am also experimenting with iced cinammon coffee. Made some strong decaf yesterday, with cinammon on the grounds. Then added some cream and splenda...It is in the fridge, cooling off, waiting to be poured over ice.

I hope it's worth waiting for!

Let me know how it tastes! I LOVE coffee drinks, only they're usually loaded with sugar/caffeine so they're off limits for me.

:bash: This is how I feel whenever I eat the wrong carbs. I just have to remember I am hurting no one but myself. I do not crave chocolate and sugar and those other high carbs. My problem is cheese. Love the cheese. I never eat breakfast or lunch. I start in eating around 4:00 pm eating some kind of meat with cheese and sour cream. Then comes the late night carb craving for cheese. I always give in. I never have more then 20 carb total, but I still am at a stand still. Sounds like everyone goes through this.
I go from 150 to 146. I am 5' 2" and cannot wait to see how I look again. Of course at my age of 55 I am not going to have soft smooth skin with no wrinkles. That is going to be a lot different. I have been overweight since my last child when I was 40. When they did my c section they did it up and down, instead of a bikini cut. My stomach muscles are not tight like they should be. I do crunches as much as I can, at lest once a day. So far there is no improvement that I can see. Sometimes I skip a day or 2, so that may be why.
Last night my DH told me that I lost too much, as far as he was concerned. I did not say a word.

Hope nothing happens to it in the fridge....at least the kids won't touch it!

But I did have an iced coffee at Starbucks!!! Not those sugar-filled frappucinno things, but found something on the menu called cafe americano (even tho I'm in Ottawa...ha ha). It said espresso over ice w/water...so I tried it....Yes it came in decaf!!!

I doctored it myself with a packet of splenda (keep some in my purse for such emergencies), a dash of cinammon and a couple of splashes of cream!!!

And it wasn't half bad    Got that nice iced coffee taste with some cream and a bit of sweetness!!

I am happy I found this treat (no more iced cappuccinos at Tim Horton's for me! :( ) so I can indulge once in a while when we're out and it's really hot (like today!)

cream is not a free food...it does have some carbs and on induction you are only allowed 2-3 ounces per day!

Well I think that treating yourself once a month helps you a lot. Since you have a day to look forward to, to have what you want. If I didn't do that I swear I would just quit the diet all together.

Also to keep in mind that after you lose the weight you want you can slowly put more carbs into your diet and you watch your weight to see when it changes to know where your limit is.

I always tell my bf (who is also on the diet) that when he is really wanting sweets or to cheat he should think of how he will be able to have more of those things when he loses all the weight he wants. It wont be so strict when you reach your target weight.

Keep positive thoughts! And don't beat yourself up when you do stumble and find yourself eating a piece of cake!

I didn't have any diet pop to put into my half in half so I used a bit of vanilla extract. Let me tell you, this was delicious! Sounds bad but I consider it a treat! The aroma is wonderful also!

Please do not tell me that heavy cream is not a good carb. Do you know what this means? I lost a lb today, and after all the heavy cream I ate yesterday, that makes me a cheater, plus I will gain a bunch of lbs over this. Now I feel awful :tears:

One of my favorites is diet chocolate soda and ice coffee, with cream...There's a brand of diet choc. soda around here that uses Splenda. Wish I could think of it right this minute, but I'll send another message when I get a bottle, don't have one right now.
I'm a caffeine addict. Anyone else drinking caffeine and losing weight? Give me some good reasons for quitting. I get a killer headache if I don't get my morning fixes....
I also had a serious addiction to donuts for awhile. I have to drive by 2 donut shopes on my way to work that have drive thrus.
It was a torture. I gave in for awhile and just couldn't kick it, then I noticed my clothes getting tighter, that did it...my husband is about to retire and I just can't keep buying new clothes, over and over again. The first time I said NO to a donut, I felt wonderful, but it took months to get there. I have a long history of weight problems, and Atkins is the only method I've found that I can stick to and get back to if I slip off. By that I mean not feel like I'm punishing myself by "getting back on". How can you feel bad about a steak and salad with blue cheese dressing? This whole thing is such a head trip.

Cream is not a "bad" carb, but should only be used in moderation! A cup of heavy cream, according to fitday is 6.64 carbs, or .8 carbs per ounce.

The induction rules state only using 2-3 ounces per day....(yes I sometimes use four cuz I love it in my coffee and mock danish and flax cereal.... :daze: ). So you may wish to be careful on how much to "indulge"!

 Since I used all the heavy cream, for some reason I lost 2 lbs in 2 days. What is with that? I was expecting some kind of gain. I hope my luck doesn't run out.......LOL

Hi Fat,
I am so happy for your loss! (I never thought I would say that) If it is a good carb than I could understand your loss. How much were you eating/drinking of it? I think it is so delicious and then I read the thread about there being hidden carbs. I am still on induction so they say 2-3 ounces per day. Maybe I will have more and figure them into my 20 carbs per day!

hey everyone i was reading your posts just now and a couple of you mentioned cheating and not being able to stay from sweets. have you tried any of the atkins chocolate bars? or the sugar -free reeses. I dont know what id so with out chocolate, i watch how much i eat, and i eat one chocolate sweet (atkins friendly) a day, it keeps me sane and low carb.

I'm feeling so great these last few days! I got myself back on track, I spent Saturday evening making some low carb snacks and goodies. I came up with one that I plan to post, it is too good not to share. I had my diet soda and cream too :D of course. Someone mentioned coffee drinks. I used the left over morning coffee to make a nice, refreshing drink.

Cold coffee (equal to one coffee cup full)
8-10 ice cubes
1/4 cream
Splenda to taste
Blend..and voila! A delicious frozen coffee drink, and it didn't cost $4!

I had to blend and let it sit for a couple of minutes, the ice kept separating from the liquid making it hard to blend, but my blender sucks so you might not have this problem. Look out for my other "creation".

I depend on the ATkins bars for many reasons...a quick breakfast, a snack after work, or something to satisfy my appetite for something sweet. I carry one with me in my purse. My favorite is the peanut butter one....my 15 month old grandson tasted it and he now eats about a 1" piece as breakfast. He's an extremely fussy eater, still nursing 3x aday and he loves avocado with tofu, whipped together (yuk). I guess it's a texture thing...

The heavy cream I drank with my diet sodas was in one day. I drank about 3/4 cup. In 4 different diet sodas. I would never do it again. I do not know what came over me....LOL..... It was just so good. On the carton it said no carbs

For whoever asked, it is true each packet of Splenda counts as 1 carb...and I guess the diet soft drinks w/splenda should also be counted as 1 carb?

Even coffee is one carb!!! Can you believe it?

Also to make matters worse, if you are still on induction, you can only have 3 splenda carbs per day!

I too am enjoying my iced coffee drink...but it still has a few carbs in it (splenda, coffee, cream)....so you really have to want it (don't you just hate drinking your carbs instead of eating them?) :daze:

speaking of craving i crave the most when its that time of the month, any ideas on how to slow it down.
