The Ralphs grocery store in my neighborhood began carrying Atkins products such as syrups, bake mix and sauces. They carry it in the dietetic/diabetic aisle.
In this aisle there are cookies and candies by a company called 50 FIFTY. Fifty percent of their profits go for diabetic research. Well I bought a pack of choc covered peanut butter bars. They have a thin cookie wafer in the middle. They are reasonably price ( cheaper than the Atkins peanut butter cups ). They are madewith maltitol and are quite good. If you see them, I highly recommend that you pick up a pack. I also plan on writing them and letting them know that they are getting support from Atkiners.

FIFTY 50 Cookies are sweetened with low glycemic fructose
This is from their website. Fructose is SUGAR and is quickly absorbed into your bloodstream causing your insulin to rise and therefore you get hungry. According to the website those wafer bars have 20 carbs. And one sandwhich cookie (an oreo type cookie) has 26 carbs! Watch out for these!
Their fruit spreads look OK though 4 carbs per serving, no sugar added.

yeah after seeing how good their jam is, I looked at their other products but those are too high in carbs.
It's wonderful to find a fruit spread though! I was really craving a pb & j

Aren't Atkins followers to avoid fructose? I might be wrong, but that's what I thought.

The candy that I was referring to has no fructose ( fruit sugar ). It is sweetened with maltitol and has 6 net carbs per serving which equals 2 candy bars. I eat one bar per day. My mom is diabetic and is not supposed to eat fructose so it surprises me that fructose is in their products.

Sorry Black57. Your main title threw me, as it has with fructose. I have viewed some of their products that have the fructose and never purchased. Glad you found something you like. :spin:

Hi, That main title was not written by me. I was mostly writing about the candy bars that I purchased.

Moderator here. I clean up Subject lines so others can find information here in the Products forum.
Many of the products discussed here in this whole conversatiomal thread, definitely contain fructose.
MOST Fifty 50 products contain fructose, often in a BLEND of sweeteners, such as sugar alcohols like sorbitol or maltitol.
Fructose has been used in many dietetic products for years, products aimed at diabetics.
It's only recently that a few 'englightened' medical professionals have been steering their diabetic clients away from fructose.
Now the sugar alcohols (including sorbitol) are very popular, and often in blends as I said above.
There's excellent information on sugar alcohols all through this Forum and in the article on the Quick Links section on the right, or off the Tips section on the orange menu bar above.

If they contain fructose, why does the fruit spread not list it as an ingredient??
It does list sucralose but I read that that does not raise your blood sugar. Is this incorrect?

I just checked and it contains sorbitol. That is the one I checked on and I read that it does not raise your blood sugar.

What is sorbitol, and is it safe for LC?

Here is what I found on a site about sorbitol. I have been using it for quite some days and have done fine weight loss wise, but it would be helpful to hear from someone else if it was okay or not!
Sugar alcohols - also called polyols - are a class of carbohydrate that are neither sugars nor alcohols. This group includes maltitol, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, erythritol, lactitol, and hydrolysed starch hydrolysates (HSH). These popular sugar substitutes provide the bulk and sweetness of sugar and corn syrup, but are incompletely absorbed in the intestine. Thus they provide fewer calories and carbs than sugar, and result in a much slower, and smaller rise in blood sugar and insulin.
I assume because of the slow rise in blood sugar, those would be okay then.

I just read something interesting. Cherries contain sugar alcohol. Does this mean that they are OK to eat?

I think fruit is okay to eat, as long as you eat it in moderation. I have had quite a bit of fruit lately and strange enough, have been losing more weight than normal also. Strawberries are one of the best fruit since a medium strawberry only has .6 carb.
A fresh cherry like that are in season now are a whopping 1 carb per cherry. Too bad, I had to give most of mine to the chipmunks nextdoor :)
Raspberries are not too high in carb either, at 4 carbs for 1/4 cup.
1/2 cup papaya is a little high at 5 carbs.
1/4 C. watermelon is 3 carbs (but who only eats 1/4 cup of watermelon?!?! ;)
Atkins says fruit is fine to eat and even has recipes that use fruit on their website, just not during induction.
