After being on Atkins for 5 months my LDL went up from 128 to 187 but my trigs fell from 229 to 72 and I have lost about 15lbs. HDL went from 29 to 40. What would make the LDL go up? I've read that some people are sensitive to this arachidonic acid in eggs and meat. Is there some test to see if that's possible? Before eating all these eggs my ldl was in the low 100's now its almost 200 and my doctor is concerned. He said to eat more oatmeal, but that means eating carbs. Should I stop eating eggs? I thought eggs were good? I'm confused  :daze:  Any suggestions?

Both Protein Power and The Zone talk a lot about arachidonic acid and list some of the symptoms that might indicate a sensitivity. Might be worthwhile to check the books out of the library and read up. I personally do limit my sources of arachidonic acid like eggs and red meat, but don't avoid them totally.

Hi there qwert50,

I think a rise in HDL and a drop in trigs such as you have are great news!

Have you read the "sticky" thread at the top of this forum? I think you'll be greatly reassured by the info there.

As for the arachidonic acid, you can read about it here. (http://www.eatprotein.com/answers6.htm#6b)
But I truly think that with your results, you don't have much to worry about. :)

There's an article about increases in LDL during a low-carb diet (http://www.majicom.com/NR/LDL.htm) on my web site that you should read.
