I travel between this forum, Womans Day forums and Oprah's forums discussing almost nothing but Atkins. Someone popped in on the WD forum asking about doing the diet as a vegetarian so came running to you guys for help. I saw a thread that had vegetarian lc support and can't find it. Would you guys direct me to it or come over to the WD forums under WD Diet and give some pointers. :D

Thanks,
Black57

Here is a direct link to the veggie forum:

It isn't really, really active but there is some good information on there.

Seems to me I read either in his book or on the Atkins website that he did not recommend this plan for vegetarians. I kind of scanned over it because it didn't aply to me but I think it was about the diet being too restrictive and becoming very boring in its limitations.

Found this on Atkins website:

Can a vegetarian follow the Atkins Nutritional Approach?
Animal proteins are a vital component of doing Atkins and it is difficult to follow the program without them. Meat, fish and poultry contain many essential fatty acids that cannot be found in any other sources. However, if you are willing to eat eggs, cheese and tofu for protein, it is possible to do Atkins. Nonetheless, the limited options would make it a boring program to follow and most vegetarians do not stay with it long term. If you are willing to also eat fish, doing Atkins becomes more enjoyable.

A vegan cannot follow Atkins. A pure vegan diet could never be low enough in carbohydrates, because there are no plants that are carbohydrate free.

There is a big difference between a vegan and a vegetarian.

I am a vegetarian that has been on Atkins 8 months. No problems so far. The options are not that limited with all the vegetarian products out there. Not eating meat or seafood is no big deal.
