Is there such a thing?

It would be so much easier if there were. :)

Ah, I guess frequent steak houses often and just have the meat entree without the potato et al? LOL

Wow, Frederick, you're one pound away from your target weight!

Congratulations.

What happens when you reach that target? Are you making any changes to your diet?

I've always wished that I could go into a restaurant and order the "Atkins Special". I steak and salad or some fabulous low carb treat. It could still happen.

Seriously, I think restaurants meals are so high carb because they need to stretch their dollar. Lots of grains or sugars don't go rotten like meat or veggies and if mixed with healthy food, can make that protein go a little further. It fills up the plate and you for less money.

Peace,

Jen

There is a low carb resturant in New Jersey and I know there is one also in California. Not sure of the names but heard about them.

Not gonna make any drastic changes, but pretty much will proceed as I have the past several weeks.

I've been keeping my carbs at or around 80 - 100, which has worked for me. Recently, I've become much more laxed about what constitutes my carb allowance for a given day. For me, those draconian avoid all sugar/sweet days are hopefully just fading memories.

That it would be a great business venture to open a Low Carb restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it's not something I could ever do myself, but I would love to be in on it. I think it would really be neat to have someplace people could go and have the carb counts right on the menu with the prices... LOL.

Well, Frederick...

You should post an announcement the day you reach 158. :)

And rishamoon,

I think a low-carb restaurant would make good business sense. Imagine having a nationwide chain! Wouldn't it be great if when they ring you up, your carb count would be printed right on your receipt? :)

I read at another site that if you ask, Carl's Jr. will wrap your burger in a huge lettuce wrap. Not a bad thing for a 'burger joint!' Perhaps this is a good start!

In' N' Out will also wrap your burger in lettuce leaves. Just ask for your burger "protein style".

My fave restaurant to go to is Outback Steakhouse. Lots of choices there. But I agree... a restaurant devoted to low carb would be awesome!!!

Go to a restaurant like outback, order a steak, their steamed veggies (don't eat the carrots) and have a caesar salad. Tell them not to bother bringing out the bread and you are good to go!!! That's what I do. Almost anywhere you go really you can low carb it. Even Mexican. Order the fajitas, no beans, rice, or tortillas, eat it right off the skillet. The only place you really have to watch out is Italian and Chinese. I haven't exactly found the right foods there.

I consider red lobster to be a decent restaraunt.. We went there last week and I was totally able to stay within my carb limit, no problem =)

but a low carb restaraunt chain would be AWESOME

See I am the opposite. I hate seafood (feel about seafood the way vegetarians feel about meat). The only thing they have there for me to eat is the chicken fingers they offer as an appetizer and they are breaded. I could always eat a caesar salad, but that is small and the cheese biscuits are totally unavoidable in my opinion.

A bloomin onion is completely unavoidable at Outback.

Therefore I cannot go.

There's a "Lo-Karb Kafe" here in Vegas although we haven't gone in yet. With the boom in low-carb lately I'm hoping they'll get enough business to at least stick around long enough for us to try them. ;) There's also the In'N'Out someone already mentioned.

entering a mexican restaurant and not being able to touch the hot, freshly fried tortillas to be dipped in an extra hot, savory tomato salsa or to endulge in lip-smacking rice and beans by the ton is totally unacceptable. can't even look at the place while driving by...

Here in Charlotte, NC we have a restaurant called "Good Ol Days". It is a "Retro 50's Diner" type place....you know.....Breakfast anytime, great burgers and Shakes. Well.......I saw a bright yellow sign one day that said "WE NOW SERVE ATKINS APPROVED MEALS". How cool is that. I immediately went in to talk to the owner and found out he lost weight on Atkins and is making his own Bagels, pancakes, fried chicken, etc... I was very excited. He said his business improved 20% since he did it. I asked him about starting a support group and he seemed interested....we will see. Here is the web sight with the story:

Charles, have you ever been to the Fish House or heard anything about the low-carb activities (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=1086251#post1086251) going on there? In addition to the special low-carb dinner nights - I choose the cuisine of a different country to showcase - almost all of our entrees can be low-carbed and we always have a low-carb dessert on the menu too. The waiting staff is low-carb savvy. They don't have a choice. ;)

Wow... that's cool.

Thanks for letting me know, Karen.

I just started this new diet so I didn't know about anything going on locally.

I live on the edge of Stanley Park too!!

Definitely let us know when the next dinner will be. (September?)

By that time, I should be at my desired weight and I'll use that opportunity to really celebrate. :)

Actually guys It's funny you posted this. I was just thinking of starting a business plan for opening a low carbs restaurant. I think I am going to go ahead and proceed with that dream. You guys are all so supportive I love each and every one of you.

When you all have time within the next month or so would you mind just shootin a quick email with you name location just to say how you think this restaurant will be beneficial. That will help me out with funding. Aso please include whether or not you would like me to keep your email address. I will never forget those that support me and when it's time for me to franchise I already hae potential investors!

Thanks guys.

Next one is July 16 and the theme is Thai. I post the info in the Canada Forum when the menu is planned.

Cool that you live so close to the park!

There's a Brazilian "Churrascaria" (which I think means barbeque) restaraunt that opened up recently where I live in Virginia. I work with a couple of folks from Brazil and they introduced me to this place. What's interesting is that I took a business trip to Califorinia a few weeks ago and I saw another one of these Brazilian barbeque restaraunts. I wonder if they are growing in popularity in this country.

Anyway, it's main feature is grilled meats. All kinds too. They actually bring the grilled meat to your table and you decide which ones you want and how much. There is a little sign on each table that you can flip to a green color or a red color. When flipped to the green color it means "keep the meat coming", which they do every 10-15 minutes. My favorite was the smoked turkey breast wrapped in thick bacon. It was unbelievable. There's also selections of grilled chicken, steak and pork.

There is also an all-you-can eat salad bar that is included in the meal. There's plenty of stuff on the salad bar that is low-carb. I especially liked the large steamed asparagus. I've never seen asparagus so big. Of course, there's also some stuff that isn't low-carb, which is the case for any salad bar.

If you run across on these places, you should give it a try. I definitely going back.

kdog - out!

MRABINOW -

We live in Rock Hill. I told my husband about the restaurant (actually, I called him screaming with glee :-) ) and he was excited, too. he's active army reserve at the center here in RH. He's also in great shape but is very supportive of this WOL. We go out to eat every weekend, and although i've never had a problem with places going along with me on how I want things prepared, it will be nice to try a place that caters to OUR needs.

I've been wanting to try different types of food, such as Thai, Japanese, Chinese, etc., but am scared of the MSG, hidden carbs and such. Do you recommend any restaurants there in Pineville?

I've been lurking for a long, long time. these are my first postings as you can see, and i'm very happy with the recipe's i've gotten from here and the great advise!

Rozleanne I can't PM you because you need 50 posts to receive messages, but I wanted to put in my request for an LC restaurant in California...specifically San Luis Obispo/5 Cities, as there are a lot of LC people in the area and few choices other than buying Trader Joe's (miniminal) LC groceries and cooking for yourself.

I happen to own a few really cool LC domain names as I was thinking of doing the same thing, but decided I'm a better idea person than a follow-through type. If you're interested in these names, let me know:

LOWCARBSUPPLIERS.COM (This was going to be a web store)

LOWCARBOUNTER.COM (double-meaning as in a diner counter
and counting carbs)

LOWCARBCULTURE.COM (this one's my favorite)

I plan to put them up for sale on eBay this week, so let me know ASAP.

Good Luck!

Charlotte, NC has just announced two restaurants that offer low carb options. Good ol Days and Mimosa Grill!

Hey Karen

I heard that "Jersey Mikes Subs" now have Atkins bread to make there sandwiches if you choose. There is one located on Monroe Road across from Shomars.

MariaMcg......where in Charlotte are you. Thats great about Mimosa. Do they have a seperate Low Carb Menu or will they just conform the already existing menu?

We need to get all the Charlotte/Pineville/RockHill and all other surrounding areas for a get together. There are a few others on this site from around here. What do you think?

See Ya

It is all in the way we approach our visit to the restaurant. Personally I enjoy having to be creative with the server and chef. It reminds me of the choice I have made to eat lo-carb. It also creates awareness with the others. I have already had two experiences in 14 days where the server has gone out of their way to prepare my food in a lo carb manner. Pretty cool, huh?
