heh from what others have said - your alcohol tolerance will be low so expect to get drunk quiker and feel worse the next morning BUT I do agree that you will do better if you have fun enjoy yourself and have a few drinks (wine is better on carbs) otherwise you might not have fun and want to binge and snack to compensate.

In moderation of course ;)

(I am out Thursday night with work and have been trying to decide what to drink myself...)

Right I may have a problem with this then...

I go out three times a week.. And its fair to say I get pretty drunk everytime.. This is a very big part of my life. Because I'm young (ish) and enjoy seeing my friends.

I've been keeping my consumption to Dry White Wine.. Followed by Vodka at later stages.. How is this going to affect my weightloss.

*waits for the flames*

Hi Fern and Larrs

Fern Enjoy the wedding this weekend. On the alcohol front, if you have been avoiding it, I agree with Sarah, you are likely to find that the alcohol will get to you quicker. In general spirits are better than wine as they do not contain carbs. Dry wine is better than sweet. If I remember correctly a glass (?) of dry wine is around 3 carbs.

Alcohol does not count as a carb, but is a major energy source. Your body will use up alcohol for energy before it uses your fat stores. Therefore, Larrs, many find that frequent drinking of alcohol slows or even stops thier weight loss. It is often better to just restrict it to the weekend once your weight loss has slowed. I must admit I drink alcohol very rarely as I'm not a social animal!

Hi Fern and Larrs

l also go out 3-4 times a week ( cut down from 7 ) and have not noticed my drinking being a problem with my weight loss.

l have been on the Dr Clark plan now for nearly 8 weeks now and have lost an average of 3lbs per week.
During this time l have drunk mainly Dry White wine ( 4 to 6 glasses a night ) with the odd Marstons Low C beer.

Both Dr Atkins and Dr Clark have Dry White Wine as 1g / 125ml ( Std pub glass ), and Marstons Low C on its label says 1.65g / Bottle.

When lm planing to go out l tend to aim to eat around 25-30g and leave myself the other 10g for the wine and still be at the lower end of Dr Clarks daily range of 40-60g.

Hope this helps

Steve

PS Fern, have a good time at the wedding...

Well I managed to stay on the white wine most of the night! I did lapse in the early hours of the morning and have a beer but I didn't finish it (too much dancing :D)

Feeling a little tender this morning as have only had 2 hours sleep and I am in work!
