Can someone fill me in on the basics of these two diets ???

[UPDATE]

Bought a copy of the Paleo book at my local bookstore...and read through it. Sounds interesting. Can't seem to find the Neanderthin book (locally), though.

'neanderthin' says to eat like the cavemen. in audette's view, that means lots of meat and plenty of fat. he advocates getting meat that is range fed (he is concerned about the balance of omega 3s and 6s). he also allows berries, nuts and some veggies (leafy greens mostly).

there seem to be two schools of thought on the paleo diets: those who advocate lean and those who advocate fat. audette falls into the latter school. he refers to stefansson's writings quite a bit.

I also found that where Cordain advocates the use of fruit in any amounts, Audette differs in that they ought to be seasonal (no irradiation, hormones etc) berries preferably, and also he points out that fruit should be the 1st to delete if a stall comes about.

As Iamfuscia sez, Audette does prefer saturated fat and lots of it. After starting out w/Cordain I have switched to Audettes WOL as I find I lose weight easier plus I took Cordain at his word but untold fruit was causing my feet to really swell up (I'm very susceptable to oedema).

Neanderthin is also the more popular of the 2 books but its not to say that that is true for everyone ie alot do better or as good w/Cordain.

here is a link to an interesting article discussing the two schools of thought on fat in the paleo diet, through an examination of native american hunter-gatherers (clearly in favor of saturated fat):
