Bexter,
My finding on a strict Atkins induction was that after 4 or 5 days I found all traces of my reflux gone. I have never had heartburn or reflux since. After months of daily problems, mine cleared up completely. I hope shortly you can say the same.

I also had to take Pepsid AC every day before embarking on this WOE. Within days, my AR was gone.

I wonder about this for my DH. He suffers from acid reflux terribly. He takes 3-6 Prilosec daily and still has problems.
I think he could follow a lc plan if it weren't for his pop habit. He drinks 6-8 pepsis a day.

soda totally gives me reflux flare up!!!!!!!!!
I'll bet that if he gave that a rest for a month he'd be able to live without the prilosec and just take gaviscon for his other naughty foods.

I have had stomach problems for years, Hiatal Hernia and GERD. He really needs to stop drinking soda (pop where Im from) at least the brown ones. Cola is soooo bad for your tummy. Even if he switched to a clear kind he may see a difference. I cut it out all the way, and have been off my meds for a year (prilosec and prevacid) I will still take some Gaviscon when needed. I remember back when it was so bad, when it would hurt if I ate and hurt more if I didn't, that one thing that felt good to eat and I never understood why, was steak. :)
So far, after day 3, no acid at all! yay. Though some gas unfortunatly. I hope you start feeling better soon!

Been on Atkins for all of 13 days so far, had to take my Nexium maybe three times tops, and I think that was from taking too many supplements at once. My GERD developed in the last year as I gained my last few pounds, and I progressed from tums to zantac 150mg daily to twice a day to proton pump inhibitors (Nexium 40mg) daily. Most likely, I'll never need it again!!
I feel like stress is a major factor in many disease processes, GERD included (although I have no statistical evidence at the moment). When I worked nights, I had more reflux symptons.
Here's an interesting read I haven't got my hands on yet:

Of note, Omeprazole (Prilosec) decreases B12 absorption by up to 70%!! Who knew?
Back to the original poster, I would suggest not eating close to bedtime or lying down and propping up on pillows. Eating too fast use to do it to me as well. And hey, there's always Tums, kill the acid and get some calcium as well=) Good luck
