I am on a low carb diet. I am not obese, but would like to
loose 10 to 20 pounds. I do not have time in the morning to
cook. I have to help my wife out with our 3 year old and we
both have to be at work early. She does not cook in the
mornings so usually all I have time for is a pop-tart and
instant oatmeal. What foods are very quick to fix for
breakfast? Also, I have an office job and get very hungary
before lunch as well as in the afternoon. What food besides
peanuts are good to take with you to the office to satisfy
you. I have tried the low carb diet before but had to quit it
because I was so hungary all the time.

Hi Don Low glycemic foods which control blood sugar levels is
a better way to eat then low carb. There is a fat loss product

Three or four boiled eggs will do. Eat as-is or with mayo
(egg-salad). Just place the eggs in cold water, bring to boil,
shut off the burner and set the timer to 10 minutes for
hard-boiled and forget about it. Get ready for work or get the
kid going or whatever as it cooks.
Also quick is a protein powder. A cup of milk, a measure of
protein powder and stir. Instant breakfast.
For a snack, one ounce of cheese. You can vary the cheese to
keep it interesting. Cheddar, swiss, mozzarella, etc. One
ounce of any good sandwich meat will do as well. Turkey or
chicken breast tastes just fine cold. I would avoid the
bolognas, pepperonis and salamis, too much nitrates and other
crap used in making it.
Good luck. In 6 months you will lose the extra pounds easy.
Just in time for low-carb heaven - BBQ season.

They could also be cooked up the night before and
refrigerated.

This could be breakfast too. Cheese and meat can be eaten
anytime of the day.
To the original poster, if you're getting hungry on a low carb
diet, you're not eating enough protein. Or just not eating
enough....

Jerky is great, also hard boiled eggs can be prepared by the
dozen on a weekend and are inexpensive.
Hulled pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
Commercial protein bars (if you can stand them!) Commercial
body building low carb protein powders for shakes. Those
really are not that bad if you find a brand you like. I
like Isopure.
Plan ahead and cook on weekends, store portions in the freezer
that can be quickly nuked in the mornings etc. I like to eat a
lot of chicken personally. Fried or roast chicken freezes well
in double freezer bags. Turkey parts are a good break from
chicken also.
Sugar free jello if you need a sweet break.

Sorry, if you want to lose weight you have to be hungry. You
will not lose weight if you are not hungry. If you are hungry
long enough your body will actually burn the fat you are so
anxious to lose. Being hungry is your body telling you that
you have reduced caloric input to the point where your body is
or will be burning its own fat.
No pain, no loss. That's why all weight-loss "diets" fail -
people get hungry and drop out. There is no painless way to
lose weight. Simple as that. Otherwise everybody would be slim
and trim. Only a lifestyle change, a different perspective on
life, will let you lose weight and keep it off.

I missed the original post. Does the advice above
intend to state that you must be hungry all the time
if you are going to lose weight?
I mentioned a little about myself in an earlier post,
but I should add here that I was initially a little
over 100 pounds above what I believe should be normal
body weight for my height and build. This was in
January this year. I've now lost almost 40 pounds at a
steady rate of approximately 1.4 to 1.6 pounds per
week by watching my portion sizes and trying to keep
my daily calories at around 2000 per day. I had set my
goal at 1 pound per week, not wanting to suffer too
much, but also figuring I should set the goal at
something I thought I could meet.
Anyway, I'm losing weight and I'm not suffering. I
do start getting hungry before regular meal times,
and real hungry when I go beyond regular meal time
before I eat, but I'm not hungry all the time, and
I'm genuinely not suffering. Maybe this will
change, particularly the last 10, 20 or 30 pounds,
so we'll see.
I can agree if the advice is that you are going to
get hungry when losing weight, but then I still got
hungry, too, when I was eating enough for three
people. In my experience, a person should get
hungry before the next meal time, but it is
possible to lose weight without feeling hungry all
the time. For someone like me who just simply ate
too much, the problem is finding the will power to
fight the food habit. I agree that fighting the
habit requires a lifestyle change. No "diet" will
be successful in the end.

Losing 40 lbs is a great accomplishment. I am not a
nutritionist, I just apply common sense to the
weight-loss problem.
Everybody knows that being overweight puts severe limitations
on our lifestyle and has a deleterious effect on our health.
There is not a single overweight person who would not prefer
to be slim and trim. As I said in my post, if it did not hurt,
if it were easy to lose weight, there would be no overweight
persons in the world.
No, it would not make sense to be hungry "all the time". One
certainly should not be hungry for some time after a meal. I
believe it is very important to set regular mealtimes and
never to eat between these mealtimes. Of course, that means we
will be good and hungry when the next mealtime comes around.
All I am saying is, we are not going to lose weight when we
are satiated with food and our body has no need to burn our
own fat. We only lose weight during those times when we are
hungry. Hunger is the alarm bell that our body has run out of
glucose and is forced to burn our fat.
Exercise is also very helpful and healthy. However, if you
just sit still and eat less calories than your body burns, you
are guaranteed to lose weight, too. Just think of emaciated
people in POW camps: They had no exercise but lost weight
until they were skeletons.
The going will get harder and harder as you approach your BMI
of 25 because your body will get smaller and will burn fewer
calories. Our body is just a heat-engine that runs on food
calories. You will be immensely happy and you will feel in
full control of your life again. Good luck.

My protein powder gives me about 3 grams of carbs for a 26
gram or so portion of protein. One cup of milk may contain
about 8 grams or so of carbs. Not excessive at all. Nice
chocolate flavour too.

Bullshit! On a high protein / low carb diet you do not have to
be hungry to lose weight. This is why this diet succeeds.
Obviously you have no expereience with this type of diet.

Cheese chunks and fruit is handy. Carbs in the morning will
make you hungry very quickly.

The milk will have around 12 g. That makes 60 calories of carb
in one cup.

High protein/fat does not have a higher satiety than any other
similar bulk and calorie content.
