Well, I have to say that I am a believer in Actos now. I didn't like the idea of using it, but it has been so much nicer to my body than Glucaphage.
Anyway, my biggest concern was the Actos indicated that it might cause weight gain, although it was an average of 2 pounds in 200+ people in a 29 week study, so not very significant.
I stopped by my doctor's office this morning to use their scale (mine is a piece of junk), and I had lost another two pounds since last Monday.
Things I like:
You don't need any food to take Actos, causing no stomach problems for me.
My lowest BG was 83 after 45 minutes of mountain biking as complared to 57 on 1000mg Glucaphage XR. So no concern about low BG.
It's a tiny pill about the size of a baby aspirin, and you can chew it up although it is nasty.
Things I don't like:
It did, as the prescribing info stated, cause water weight gain about day 4 - 5, my guess it was 4-5 pounds worth, although it's hard to tell with a piece of junk scale like I have. But, I have already lost it all at one week out per the doctor's scale this morning.
As far as control goes, my fasting this morning was 120 as compared to 150 on Glucaphage.
I could get used to this stuff, although I will have him cut the dose next Monday when I see him again (you get more bang for you buck with the 15mg than the 30mg).
