Hi,
I have been following Atkins for two weeks. I'm not losing, and have actually gained a pound. I want to continue this WOE but am concerned that I may be eating to much fat or maybe just eating to many calories, and that's why I'm not losing. I am switching to Protein Power today, in hopes that by watching the Protein grams I will have success. I am concerned however, about how much fat I can have.

It is not clear in the book (I have the first book), how much fat is OK. Example: I like the low-carb pancakes, and put lots of butter on them, probably a pat on each one. I cook them in oil or butter also. OK, now add two or three pieces of sausage.
I get very board with just meat and like to make a horseradish/mayo sauce to dip it in. I may eat 1/4 cup of this sauce at one sitting. I also put butter on califlower. When having a chef salad I will use a couple to three tablespoons of ranch dressing on it. I like the pork rinds as a snack and don't see them mentioned in the book either.

I'm not used to this WOE and I think I'm so excited about everything I can eat, that maybe I'm just overeating calorie-wise. I hate the thought of having to count calories along with counting the carbs! :(
Can you offer any suggestions here? Thank you so very much for your time!

Eating fat is fine on Atkins. Nothing to worry about at all! You seem to be doing quite well with having got to 46 percent of your goal already. Weigh loss is not always steadily down. Up a pound, down a pound. Up two, down one...

If you have a really old edition of Atkins, you should really get the new 2002 edition. There have been lots of changes.

For future reference, in this link are things that can slow or stall weight loss:

hi April,

You might also want to read this thread posted recently, from another member who contemplated Switching from Atkins to PP (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38738). There's lots of input, ideas and suggestions there, and may answer some questions for you.

Good luck :)

Hi
Thanks for responding. My stats are misleading. I started losing weight last Sept. but not by low carbing. My son left home for college leaving me with a horrible case of empty nest syndrome. I was so sad, that I couldn't eat and lost some of the weight then. I got over it and I'm fine now ;)
Next, I went on a plan called the Michael Thurmond Six Week Body Makeover, and lost 16 lbs. I stayed on that diet for the six weeks, but could not deal with eating that way for the duration.

I just started Atkins on April 26th, 2002. Gained 1 pound. I just started Protein Power today.
Thanks for the link, I'm heading right over to check it out!
