Hi! I am a type two diabetic and having a hard time deciding what to have for breakfast on Dr. Bernstein's plan. I usually have 2 eggs scrambled with 2 slices of turkey bacon but I am becomming bored and want to eat something else. I tried a bran cracker this morning but it was horrible and I ended up spitting it out.

Anyone on this diet who call tell me what to eat for breakfast? I can only have 6 carbs.

Thanks!

Ilana

I'm a type 2 and I have chicken, pork chops, cottage cheese, leftover whatever from supper.

You might want to check out the top of the page on the orange bar there are low carb recipes -- some good ideas for breakfast quiches and other nummy stuff.

This is a very common problem.

I have been saved by the Atkins muffin mixes..only 3 carbs per muffin...(but watch out Atkins recently put out a deluxe version at 8 carbs per muffin).....Costs about 5.00 for the mix and makes 13 muffins..last me all week..at about .40 cents per muffin that ain't bad..cheaper than Dunkins...

I like the lemon poppy seed the best. :yum: .usually have 1 or 2 with 2 eggs fried and 3 strips bacon...fills me up for hours and no impact on BG..

Alternately I take some flax seed meal (health food store, about 4.00 a bag, lasts forever, keep in freezer...) and 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup cream, drop some splenda and cinnamon in it and sometimes a little maple flavoring, add in some almonds or a teaspoon of wheat germ, if I am in the mood..microwave it for 1 minute, have that with 1 muffin and lots of butter. This flax seed "oatmeal" comes out a little gummy but it taste great..really..just give it a try..and you get your daily Omega 3 that way as well...

Carbolite has a 0 carb bake mix out...sometimes I will make pancakes out of it with a little sugarfree Atkins maple syrup, maybe an egg or 2 on top....

All the above are 6 or less carbs...gives you some variety..also check out the Mock Danish recipe somewhere in here....you will find a lot of breakfast ideas and recipes....like I said,,,breakfast can be a major problem....variety is important! And remember, don't skimp on the fat..it is what fills you up and as far as I am concerned makes it all possible....

I have lost 20 lbs the last 4 months since I started this...A1C went from 11 to 7...cholesterol went from oh my god your dead soon reading to near normal.. :rheart: .BP 120/70....feeling great....

Try pancakes made from the Atkins bake mix. Not too expensive. You'll need the vanilla syrup, too. Make them a little thinner than the recipe on the box by adding a little more water and two or three of them with bacon will keep you under 6 grams and fill you up nicely. There are a number of zero carb maple flavored syrups on the market. I can't taste the difference between them and Log Cabin.

I also like toast made from Atkins bread, but at $7.00 / loaf I just can't justify it. Some of the prices of Atkins products have entered the realm of the gouge and I simply refuse to pay that much for them.

I also make a form of flax hot cereal, but I mix in an equal amount of unprocessed wheat bran (1/4 cup of each) along with some Splenda, butter and cream. Yes, the texture is a bit gummy, but it's very filling, high in fiber and has a lot of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
Another option is Keto hot cereal if you can find it in your area. It's 3 net grams of carb per serving with 9 grams of fiber and does not have Aspartame in it. It comes in Strawberry, Blueberry, Apple Cinnamon, Banana Nut (my personal favorite) and natural flavors. It's a bit pricey at $6.00 per can, but that will usually last me a couple of weeks if I'm not having it for breakfast every day. I can stretch it even farther by using part ground flax in the cereal or sometimes I'll just add ground flax to the normal portion if I'm extra hungry.
Some other things I do for breakfast are leftovers, low carb bread with peanut butter, devilled eggs, mock danish (see the recipe forum), deli meat and cream cheese roll-ups. I've even been known to eat tuna or chicken salad for breakfast a few times. ;)
I like eggs, but they can get tiresome quickly if you're eating them every day. After a while, you learn to think "outside the box" when it comes to breakfast.
