Gift-
You might want to start a new thread on this to get the most feedback. I went to the doctor and had my thryoid meds upped while I started low carbing and that worked for me.

I've split the posts away and created a new thread. I'm sure you'll get some other ideas from folks.

Gift,
I am in a similar situation. I had my TSH tested last month after 3 months of Synthroid. I went from 5.5 to .6 and I gained weight! Apparently I am the fattest hyperthyroid patient on the planet!
Have you has your T3 checked? I am getting that checked next!

HI gift,
I thought I would follow up on my tests.
I didn't take any. But I did some research on Wilson Syndrome and found a doctor in my area familiar with it. I went yesterday afternoon for consulation.
I told him my story about Synthroid making me gain and how my doctor won't pursue alternatives. He listened, ask questions and offered 3 suggestions to try. First, to switch to Armour to see if I am having difficulty breaking down the T4 into T3. If nothing changes, the next step is to look at Wilson's Syndrome. There is no "test" for it but the treatment is harmless if I don't have it and very effective if I do. If I don't, the next step is a full food allergy test. By measuring the reaction of my white blood cells to various foods, we can gauge if my problem is allergic reaction which is also treatable. He told me that there was no reason that I couldn't go back to my original weight of 135. I nearly wept.
Gift, I am NOT reccomending any of these for you since I am not a doctor and I have no idea if any of these alternatives are possible for you. But I am strongly suggesting that you research your area for a doctor that is willing to find the answers. It's on you to pursue it. If your doctor is unwilling to try something different despite your discomfort, you need to look for help elsewhere.
My mom had this suggestion. Medical doctors learn alot in 7 years of school. So our little thyroid was probably a couple of paragraphs in a textbook and pop quiz. And maybe your doctor missed that day. Just as we are different so are doctors.
Good luck in finding what works for you, Gift!

I am glad you found someone willing to discuss alternatives! Both of you could also consider going to an endocrinologist. My regular doctor has suggested that for me at some point.

I did see one and he prescribed the Synthroid. He also mentioned that he would be only upping the Synthroid dose rather than try a natural approach.
Sadly the last thing I need is more T-4... I need T-3!! :)
