Hi guys, just doing a quick survey of where you guys
workout at.
Which gym?
who works out and 24Hour fitness and how would you rate their
free-weight room? How many benches, etc? Lots room?
Ok, thanks. My membership at the Hollywood Gold's just
expired and I've been working out at the YMCA. not bad but my
hours are restricted there and the parking is nothing short
of horrendous. I'm thinking about going somewhere else mainly
because Gold's is rediculously crowded during my usual
workout hours.. I mean, VERY crowded! Do you guys experience
the same problem?
Anybody at the newly built 24Hour fitness on sunset
blvd.. thanks.

Steve' Gym. Down two flights from the shower, so the rest of
the family can enjoy the smell.

I see. Ya when I have the money one day, I will most
definately build a gym all to myself.
Better yet, I'd rather just start a business.

Minimal gym
200 lbs. of plates at $.50/lb = $100 2 dumbbell handles at $8
per handle decent bench at $200
total = $316

Now it can be told - a chain called "Lifetime Fitness".
The branch I go to is quite a bit smaller than the ones out in
the 'burbs. No pool. No racquetball or wet sauna.
But it has lotsa weights. More than I know what to do with.
And it has a Chipotle Mexican Grill across the street, so I
can get lotsa red meat when I'm done working out.
I know it's not a hardcore Golds Gym type place. But
it's a huge improvement over the Bally's I had a
membership at before.
There's something about heading out to a gym that helps keep
me on the program. Having weights around the house is too easy
for me to ignore
- making a special trip and rewarding myself with a nice pump
and a relaxing sauna somehow keeps me motivated.

The ones in South/Southwest Denver are all Chrome-and-Tone
Central. People curling (excuse me, 'toning their biceps so
they don't bulk up') in the squat racks, using sm*th m*ch*n*s,
filling their water bottles at the drinking fountains when
there's a line, drying their genitalia with the electric hand
dryers, and getting ersatz trainers who talk about 'toning'
and how EAS really cares and therefore the $9/pound Simply
Whey (which they sell) is a lot better than the $5/pound
Myogenix (which they don't.)
In other words, I've not been overly thrilled. However, nobody
tells me I can't squat and deadlift, and the only time it ever
closes is when the roof is about to collapse.

Not having random musclehead who 10 minutes earlier finished
45 minutes of squats in the only squat rack interrupt my gf in
the *middle* of a squat set and tell her that she should never
squat below parallel and to check out muscleandfitness.com and
here's the url and he owes his phsyique to them and they have
a special section for women called muscleandfitness for her
and let him just tear her a page out of his latest issue so
she won't forget the URL: Priceless.
Chaser, I work out at the 24hr Fitness in Koreatown which is,
oddly, much nicer than the Beverly Hills one (which is like a
stinky underground dungeon). It's got a reasonably sized free
weight section compared to the traffic it receives in the
early morning, and $1 parking. The one on Sunset is a 24hr
Sport so, cheap bastard that I am, I can't use it.
Downsides:
-Only one full power cage, but only two other guys ever use it
and I've learned their schedules and try to beat them to the
gym by 15 minutes on their squat days (random musclehead guy
wasn't one of them
- he just showed up that one day and camped in the squat rack,
hence the "random"). They've also got this half-cage thing
that nobody ever uses. I don't know what it's called, but it
does in a pinch if I'm squatting light.
-For some reason, they only seem to have one set of 15lb
dumbells, and it is often unfindable. They seem to have plenty
of everything else.
-Assisted Chin/Dip machine is always occupied, but never for
long.
If you're looking to buy a membership, I've heard it said that
you can negotiate a better deal at the Manhattan Beach one and
then use it anywhere.

I have to disagree. For information value, it would be from
Lyle or Keith. For sheer humor, it would be a post where David
Cohen tries to insist that 1911s are suitable for anything
other than a tax deduction.

Aw, hell, wave your schwantz wherever you please. I can put up
with a men's locker room with two televisions, both showing
"Dr. Phil." If I can de-wuss enough from that to work out, I
can tune out anything at all.
However, wiggling one's waggle in the squat cage will probably
enhance your popularity as much as high-rep five-pound curls
in the cage. It's a free country, but I personally would
recommend not fiddling with your business in public places. Or
at least not being obvious about
it.

It really varies from one 24 hour fitness to another in terms
of number of free weights. The one I currently goes to in the
Beaverton, Oregon near the Tanasbourne mall have roughly 8
mobile benches (at least 3 adjustable inclines), 4 flat
benches, one incline bar bell bench, 2 power racks, and even
*2* weighted dip belt. Whereas total bally fitness have near
by have three mobile benches and one flat bench. Only thing
I've to complaint regarding the equipment is the dumbbells
are very old. They are sometimes loose at the end and so
before I start to work out with dumbbells I need to screw
them tighter. That and after 100lb the dumbbell increment at
10lbs instead of 5lbs.
The most annoying part about 24 hours fitness are sales people
& the personal trainer. Their sales pitch is annoying and they
are very persistent. They're trained and obsessed in helping
people to get toned and loose weight. In general I wouldn't
recommend their trainer for people who already workout for
several years. And there are also the usual inconsiderate
people who likes to fill out their bottles while there is a
line or some that likes to curl right in front of the dumbbell
rack in busiest time of day. You get that in just about any
gyms though.
Other than that this particular 24 hours fitness is a good
place to workout. And surprisingly their workout music is
actually pretty good at times. 24 hours/7 days a week means
that if I'm busy in a particular day I could delay the workout
until later time/day etc.
